Date of Birth: Born 07/07/04AV
Species: Human
Romantic Orientation: Bisexual
Aura Color: Light red
Height: 209cm
Weight: 126kg
Color Naming Rule: Berwyn means white hair in Welsh, Rhodes alludes to ‘Red’ in Dutch as well as the Colossus of Rhodes.
Semblance Name: Head in the Clouds
Rank of Semblance: E
Semblance Type: Physical Boost
Primary Category: Obstacle (mobility) (+2 total)
Secondary Category: Obstacle (mobility) (+2 total)
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: Berwyn has the physical boost semblance of Head in the Clouds which allows her to fly/hover and increase her agility
Description of Semblance: Berwyn unlocked her semblance quite late for her age and it reflect her budding more carefree attitude. As long as she has a clear mind, Berwyn is able to fly up to the height of a small room (10-12 meters). Her hair turns slightly bright and almost cloudy, while her skin slightly redder. While she does so, she is also able to increase her own nimbleness by going with the flow which increases her agility. Simply hovering in place low by the ground is not a heavy task on her aura but making a lot of quicker movements in combat or being close to the maximum height increases the cost.
Drawbacks of Semblance: The main disadvantages of the form are that while Berwyn is able to dodge incoming attacks, she isn't exactly speedier and her movement stays rather slow both horizontally and vertically. Also, Berwyn is only able to carry her strength score in additional weight (95-105kg) in additional weight that is not her own.
Weapon Name: Járngreipr
Rank of Weapon(s): E
Category: Combatants (Destruction) (+1)
Description of Weapons(s): Berwyn weapons are a pair of iron gauntlets fitted with Earth dust. Despite any evidence to the contrary, Berwyn is a ranged fighter whose main form of attack is throwing builders that she creates with the Earth gauntlets that she throws either with or without her semblance activated.
Name of Non-Combat Ability: Tailor of Titans
Rank of Non-Combat Ability: F
Category: Social (Non-combat)
Description of Non-Combat Ability: Berwyn is somewhat adept at refitting clothing for her size on her own, but she is unable to make complete sets of garments for her own yet.
Name of Non-Combat Ability: Teacher's Assistant
Rank of Non-Combat Ability: E
Category: Social (Non-combat) (+1)
Description of Non-Combat Ability: After some pointers and shadowing of the teacher Lynn Morgan, Berwyn has become confident and proficient enough to help during lessons and teach others basic knowledge without making a fool of herself.
Name of Combat Ability: Strongwoman (Strength)
Rank of Combat Ability: F
Category: Combatants (Destruction)
Description of Combat Ability: Despite being naturally powerful, Berwyn is in general too slow and sluggish to hit fast-moving targets with her fists with or without her semblance. This combat ability is mostly to represent what she can do to stationary targets and how much she can lift to throw. Most of this strength is muscle strength for her, as she still isn’t too proficient with augmenting her strength with her aura.
Name of Combat Ability: Boulder Bunter (Marksmanship)
Rank of Combat Ability: E
Category: Combatants (Destruction)
Description of Combat Ability: Berwyn’s ability to hit things when she throws other things at it. This usually means boulders that she creates with her gauntlets, but it can also be whatever is at hand.
Name of Combat Ability: Tough skinned (Durability)
Rank of Combat Ability: F
Category: Hazard (Survival)
Description of Combat Ability: Berwyn is a resilient woman who can take more than a few hits, but her still lacklustre control of her aura limits her full potential.
Name of Combat Ability: Rock solid (Stamina)
Rank of Combat Ability: F
Category: Hazard (Survival)
Description of Combat Ability: Berwyn has enough stamina to keep going for a while, but her previous steroid usages still hampers her fitness.
Primary Drive: Berwyn's primary drive is to become a teacher at a combat school. To provide students with not only the skills to become great huntress and huntsmen, but also for them to become better people while doing so.
Fears: The girl fears people mocking her behind her back the most of all. That they think secretly about her way different than they say or act to her face. Beyond this, she also fears her previous ill temperament to arise again during bad moments.
Style of Self-Expression: Towards most people Berwyn appears to be quite aloof and needs time to become comfortable in meeting new people before she gets over this. Once she has calmed her nerves and gets in a more comfortable flow, she is endearing and kind to most, with a big heart in the right place. She can also be very physical in her dealing with people, seeming to have little problem with offering others hugs or touching them if they allow it.
Most Important Thing: Berwyn believes in the idealized conception of what a huntsman or huntress should be, and is not afraid to go to great lengths to express these views. If you are not in this profession to be a protector of the people, she will actively try and change someone's perception or try to dissuade people to just quit. Someone who wants those capabilities without the best of intentions, shouldn't have them at all. No matter if they are friend or not.
Some people are born lucky, and some people are lucky to be born. Berwyn considered herself both the luckiest and unluckiest person at various stages of her life.
Born to a heart-surgeon and the vice-principle of a middle school in Mistral, there was always pressure on Berwyn and her younger brother Blane to not become total deadbeats. Thanks to their busy and exhausting careers, both children were more accustomed to nannies and educational television being there for them than their parents on most nights. Berwyn came into the view of her parents when her most notable talent appeared early in her life at age 9. She passed her father in height, and there wasn’t any real indication that her growth would stop any time soon. The girl was diagnosed with giantism, and it was prognosed that she would soon become lanky and malformed without treatment.
There was only a slim chance that they could even prevent what was about to happen to Berwyn’s body from that point on. Weighing their options, Berwyn’s parents chose against surgery or other more intrusive treatments. A combination of hormones, diet, and exercise was developed to stimulate a proper growth. The most notable ingredient in this mixture were regular testosterone injections to stimulate muscle growth and make her body able to sustain its size better. The result of all this? Berwyn become a giant with a growing anger issues that eventually ruined her.
As a child, Berwyn did not really mind being taller than other kids. She could reach high places and she was good in sports. Still, when the gap kept widening between her and other kids, what used to be a cool advantage became a thing of mockery. You would not believe how many times she was asked ‘how the weather was up there’. Partly because of her hormone treatment, something that she called her ‘Big Girl Shots’, and partly because of having only a limited capacity to be bullied, Berwyn started to use her strength and height more actively in social interactions. A scary threat here and a slight love-tap there did the trick. Her parents didn’t like all of the angry phone calls, and they had a proper sit-down with Berwyn. Her ridiculous size and aptitude for strength was from then one channelled in a productive manner. The solution was basically made by her parents, though Berwyn didn’t really mind the choice; Sanctum Academy, with the end goal becoming a Huntress. Nobody would bully or belittle her when she would become a Huntress, and she could use her freakish body to help people. It seemed like such a nice plan.
It is a shame that people are dicks in all walks of life.
Berwyn’s time in Sanctum was not a happy one. For one, despite being taller than 2 meters and having more muscles than even most of the male students who graduated, the giantess was already falling behind others at the beginning of her second year. Despite being physically extraordinary, she proved to be a poor practitioner of her aura. She listened more to her muscles than to whatever there was inside of her. While she could make up this lack of introspection with her physical talents in the first year, she was already underperforming in the second year in anything but physical strength.
Students still saw her as either a challenge they needed to defeat to prove they were tough, or they saw her as some large lumbering oaf who was only a muscle-bound amusement. The girl became more sullen, and tried to keep up with her peers in the only way she knew how; more physical exercise and ‘Big Girl Shots’. It made her feel less sluggish and because of her condition, the school didn’t make a big fuss about it as it was always monitored by a doctor. She had to press her father more and more to give her higher doses, and getting mad with him at times. It was his plan to use the drugs, was it not? She was a big girl; it will all turn out fine.
And despite not being the most gifted Huntress in the aura-department, and not even having discovered her semblance, Berwyn did manage to complete her education at Sanctum academy. Wanting to make a fresh start, Berwyn applied to Beacon academy. She thought that being away from most of her former classmates would give her a new impulse and would get her to improve her skills better. Despite being an edge case, Berwyn was luckily admitted to Beacon Academy in 24AV. Things didn’t go great.
Being in a strange environment combined with the much more stressful and dangerous situations of a huntress-in-training did not do wonders for Berwyn. She did not improve much in her ability. She became more reclusive and even a bit paranoid. Even though the students at Beacon did not called her names in her face, she always suspected them to do it behind her back. Berwyn discovered also that the new doctor in Vale who prescribed her medication was able to be… persuaded… to give her higher doses, even higher than her father would ever give her. It became the only thing that made her days of training and fighting bearable. That all stopped when the heart attacks came. First, they were few and she did not even notice them. Then she started to notice them and act like she was fine. Then her classmates started to notice the behaviour but didn’t wanted to call out the weird giant loner kid. And eventually everybody noticed when she collapsed during an extensive sparring session with enough juice in her body to kill her if she kept this up.
So, Berwyn went to whatever passed for Huntsman-Rehab.
With more and more Huntsmen turning older, it became apparent that substance abuse of many different kinds was starting to become more and more common. From the booze bottle, to the needle, to whatever Huntsman could get to get the edge of the things they have seen. Vale, being ever the most pretentious yet progressive Kingdom, opened a private clinic that tried to help these people recover when their coping mechanisms either did not work out or became dangerous. Either to get them back in the field, or to make sure that they wouldn’t go crazy one day and harm others in one way or another. Shame they never had a large enough budget to help everyone, or huntsmen didn’t end up there before it was too late. It did help out Berwyn though, eventually.
So, Berwyn was placed within that group. She was both the youngest and ‘untested’ member of her support group. They talked about all of the crazy situation they had gotten into. The people they failed to save, or betrayed them in a life or death situation. And those who were sitting in that dingy meeting room were still counted as the lucky ones. It was a real eye opener for Berwyn to not become a better form of Huntress. One who did not had to rely on drugs to get through the day, and one who could deal with ‘the life’ in a better way. She didn’t yet know exactly how, but she did learn how to deal with her immediate problems by being faced with what she would otherwise become.
Wanting to be closer to her parents and again wanting to turn over a new leaf, Berwyn transferred to Haven after the Vytal festival. She had recovered both mentally and physically from everything that had happened. With a more positive outlook than she had for years, Berwyn was ready to finally become the Huntress she was supposed to be.
