TRP is a post-Great War AU RWBY RP set in Mistral City and Haven Academy with no canons, no rank claims, no maidens, and no god interference. We offer a progression system and site-wide events that change the setting based on player actions.
The lever looks pretty rusty, but luckily, Knight is strong enough to get it to crank- not that that's a huge feat or anything.
And crank it does, raising up quicker than a door that size probably should, and making a considerable amount of noise, thanks to the metal scraping against metal, and the loud echoes from the concrete floor and ceiling. A deeply unpleasant groaning sound, and a screeching noise as it ground to a halt at the top. There wouldn't be too much time to enjoy the silence now that all that was over, though, because no sooner than the door finished opening, than about six Creeps came bounding towards the wolf faunus, slavering jaws snapping and salivating as they charged to their doom.
And it was definitely their doom they were charging into- Knight's Semblance was scorching hot, and even exerting more energy than usual bring down a crowd of that size, they were so much weaker than her, it wouldn't take much to dispatch the lot of them.
Maybe Creeps were an issue for less powerful people, but for Knight, they were gone in the blink of an eye, nothing remaining but white hot flames, before they too were extinguished.
The excitement wasn't yet over, however- as she and Red stepped into the room to continue exploring the warehouse, without warning, the heavy metal door behind them came crashing down again, hitting the ground with a loud clanging thud. There was another lever, to their left, but any attempt to use it would first dangerously bend it, about halfway through cranking it, and further attempts would snap the lever handle off entirely.
Whatever the case, the door they'd entered through was busted, but the door leading out into the hallway was still there, which was nice and convenient.
Seems like the carpenter and the big metal door maker guy had their work cut out for them.
Inside the room itself, there were- unsurprisingly- more boxes and crates. A lot of longer boxes, containing unfilled dust canisters, and a pair of smaller boxes which had some weird-looking tools in them; Red might note that they seemed to be useful for repairing damaged dust cartridges, like the kind that powered her car battery, and presumably, whatever equipment the warehouse was used to store.
If the two were satisfied with those two rooms, proceeding through the door into the hallway, and then into the smaller corner room, would reveal two empty crates, and the slightly-ajar door into another hallway- through which, more hissing sounds could be heard, and the closer the two got to the door, the louder they became, until a muffled, but distinct, hiss could be heard through the first door on their right. Continuing further along the hallway a bit would confirm that all three of the first few doors were emanating the same soft, steady, hiss.
And whatever that hissing was, it didn't sound very good.

Now was hardly the time to talk about who made doors, not with weird noises coming from the other end of that door, so she let the topic drop and got into position by the door frame Knight kicked open to get in here. Her eyes were focused squarely on Knight, but she was listening for any signs of the other team as difficult as it was with that awful grinding noise from the door pounding in her ears. She doubted they were anywhere close based on their messages, but as long as semblance usage was on the table, Red figured she should pay due diligence towards the stairs. Unsurprisingly, she heard nothing, the enemies were obliterated in an instant, and they were free to enter the room. The door slamming shut behind them startled her, and there was a brief moment of panic until she remembered there was another door leading back to the hallway. She had even seen it when she checked the door at the end of the hallway. After a couple of deep breaths she was quickly able to shake the feeling away.
While they were searching the boxes, Red thought about what that hissing noise could be. King Taijitu were the really big snakes right? Were there smaller snakes? Because she had a hard time picturing one of those fitting down here. She wasn't sure what else it could be though. The obvious things inside of a building that would make that kind of noise were some variant of water, gas, or electricity, but any of those seemed unlikely here. If this place had been abandoned for so long, someone would have noticed if they were losing resources to some abandoned building, or that their energy bills were way higher than they should be. Right? Besides, if it was water there would be way more water damage down here, if the place wasn't completely flooded. If it was gas, someone on the other team probably would have noticed by now given Knight and herself were the only one that brought gas protection. The power was out, so she doubted it was electricity. If whatever that hissing noise was knocked out the power somehow she would have expected it to be louder because this building was pretty big and would have a lot of energy to drain. She supposed it could also be a non-Grimm insect infestation. Those made hissing noises sometimes depending on the type of insect. Given the circumstances, it just seemed more likely that it was some kind of Grimm.
"Might not be a snake. It was just the first thing that came to mind when I heard hissing." She paused and furrowed her brow. "Whatever it is, it didn't break any of the wooden doors to get to the death upstairs. It's strange how many of them are trapped in small rooms. A lot about this place is strange. What even happened here? What called the Grimm? Aside from that one patch in the floor upstairs, there hasn't been that much damage beyond what you'd expect from a building receiving no maintenance for a long time. When I heard there might be a Grimm infestation here, I was expecting a lot worse."
Red hadn't fought Grimm herself, if only because her skill set was more suited to rescue and making sure survivors didn't call more Grimm, but she knew what the aftermath of an attack looked like. Anyone that spent any amount of time in a warzone, or Vacuo outside of the capital in general, probably did. They were horrifying affairs nearly every time, and she had tried to prepare herself for the worst before coming here in an effort to at least try to keep her emotions in check. Fortunately, her imagination tended to be far worse than anything that actually happened. However, they weren't done yet. There could still be something worse further down to explain why none of the Grimm down here tried to get upstairs.
Once the room was clear, she let Knight lead the way into the room at the end of the hall. Once again, she heard the hissing noise, but she wasn't sure if Knight had until they were further in. Red pointed towards the slightly open door leading to the next hallway as they started going through the boxes in this room.
"That's where I heard the hissing."
Further details seemed unnecessary as she had no idea what it was and was only relaying the information because Knight had requested it. Now that she could get closer to to the sound, it sounded like there was more than one source of hissing and they were all coming from different rooms. She could barely identify Grimm and their capabilities by sight, let alone sound. They just weren't something she was very familiar with or something she studied in detail.
Regardless, there were probably enemies here, so there wasn't much point in looking for more trouble further down the hallway until Knight cleared the area. She waited just outside the door to the hallway the rooms were in, ready to pull Knight out of trouble if necessary and while listening for signs of the other team. Though, this was close to where that weak spot in the floor was on the upper floor wasn't it? She wouldn't let herself get distracted by it, but she was curious to see if there were any further signs of explosions in this area.

[attr="class","nikki109"]It was good that this place had sturdy walls, at least. Creeps were a disgusting type of Grimm that were individually weak but could move deceptively fast both on land and through burrowing in the ground to get behind enemy lines and attack soft targets. They liked to tunnel below defenses and pop up in residential areas behind them, wreaking havoc and forcing the town guard to fight on two fronts. Given how deserted and ill-kept the area above ground was for this place… well, it wasn’t pleasant to think about how much damage a dozen or so of those things could have done before someone who could kill them before they ran away presented themselves. [break][break]
”Yeah, could be anything. Every kingdom has Grimm that are a bit different, and it could be something else. Might have mutated or something since we were last in kingdom, too. Have no idea how that stuff works, to be honest.” [break][break]
In Vacuo it was common knowledge that some areas tended to attract more Grimm types than others. The most dangerous regions of Vacuo famously had the most dangerous types of Grimm, who sometimes strayed from their general area but were usually found within the same block of land. The giant Blind Worm, for example, could in some cases stretch to over thirty meters long and half again as big to go with a loadout of bone plates, hooks, and acidic blood and spit that could melt vehicles. That particular type of Grimm was almost unheard of outside of Vacuo, which was probably a good thing for everyone involved. She had no doubt there was lesser Grimm types that were also region-specific that she had no idea about, not like the more common types that she encountered a lot more. [break][break]
Killing all of the creeps at once was probably overkill, and cost her eleven percent of her aura in the process even with the reduced strength blast, but it was worth it to ensure none of them got past her and fled upwards. To the question of what happened to cause this, Knight would just shrug at first, then reply once she realized they had a long walk due to the fucked up door behind them to get back to making any progress. She’d try to yank at the lever to open the door back up, and give up after the first attempt failed and the damned thing bent like it was going to snap in two. Bullshit, cheaply made mechanical crap. It was amazing how none of the things broke out yet with quality like this on their side. [break][break]
”This place is super old. Likely from Faunus War or maybe even Great War, so the people who worked here were probably the working poor who weren’t important enough to require being drafted and weren’t rich enough to get out of doing labor for the government. My current guess as to what happened is there is some sort of hole or tunnel towards the bottom that opened up from somewhere, likely from some burrowing Grimm, and everyone that was unlucky enough to be in here at the time got locked in as soon as the supervisors or owners caught wind of what was happening. Wartime so no fighters around, so they probably just locked it up tight and hoped for the best. Doesn’t have to be a big or particularly rough infestation to scare some capitalists into sacrificing their workers.” [break][break]
What really happened, at this point, was not super important for their job. It was a likely a story as any, and until they got more information the best, they could do was wild mass guess with the information they did have. Once they made their way back down the hallway, Knight would clear rooms the exact same way that she did before. If there was a large group of lesser Grimm she wouldn’t waste the aura to incinerate all of them at once and would instead conserve her aura and only immolate one at a time while using her Szabla to hopefully take out another. Blocking the doorway with her body meant that there was almost no escape chance for those types of Grimm, which was her main concern in all of this. If it was a more powerful Grimm, she’d drop her blade and use her right hand to activate her semblance while her left hand got a plant dust infused glove from one of her belt pouches and slipped it on the right hand to fire off another one with the napalm as quickly as possible. No time for fucking around with the big ones, so those were to be eliminated as quickly as possible with the most damaging attacks she had.

As Knight and Red continued along through the lower floor of the building, they would approach the doors emanating the hissing sounds, which were still soft, but persistent, as they came to the first door. With a strong kick, the grey-haired faunus found that the door gave way pretty easily, revealing the source of the hissing- an old pipe, rusty and well-worn, ran along the back wall, seeming to run straight through the entire corridor- likely the result of shoddy war-time construction, it looked like. But even so, the assumption had been correct that there shouldn't have been any gas running through the pipes still.
Unless, of course, there had been a stoppage long ago, around the time the place was abandoned- that would explain how the gas had managed to pool into the pipes, for who knows how long, even after the main line was shut off. And now, by some chance, it seemed the lines had run a leak, having corroded in several spots along the pipe, spewing gas into the room that, even through their protective face masks, still didn't smell especially pleasant. No doubt, that stuff was flammable, toxic, or some combination of the two, and the idea of staying in that room for very long wasn't bound to be an appealing one, for either of them.
One thing was for sure, though, and it was that Asche would definitely need to contract a biohazard specialist to deal with that shit, before long.
If the pair chose to check out the other rooms along the hallway, they would find that just about all of them were having the same issue, and that some of the gas was leaking into the hallway now, in very small, hopefully harmless amounts, from the opening of the first door, and any subsequent doors. If they investigated as far as the last door along the wall, they would find that the pipe ran out there, leading off further back, into the wall, as opposed to continuing into the next room.

Most of the time, she would have agreed that speculation was pointless. It wouldn't stop her from trying to piece together something now that they had seen a fair amount, but she might have kept it to herself. Something felt off though, and she wasn't sure if she could say it had no relevance to them right now. She furrowed her brows and tapped her fingers against her arm while she and Knight finished searching the room.
"It bothers me that there's no signs of struggle. There's all these Grimm trapped in these tiny little rooms like someone shut a door on them. Signs of an explosion. Empty lightning dust canisters. That's about it. No scratches at the doors, no signs of desperately trying to break down walls...If people were trapped in here, wouldn't they try something?"
She wasn't sure what would prevent them from trying something. The building was sturdy, but she wasn't sure if it was sturdy enough to hold back a bunch of really desperate people with a bunch of dust meant to power industrial machines. Being stuck underground was one possibility, and she really hoped they weren't about to walk into a really nasty scene. Knight opening the door was a welcome distraction from those thoughts, and she raised a brow when she saw what was in there.
"How the hell did that happen? I would have thought this place would have run out of gas a long time ago."
Red supposed flooding the place with poison gas would have also stopped people from struggling to find a way out. It's not like they'd be able to conduct any kind of proper autopsy on these people, and even if they could, she didn't know how to do it and wasn't sure if she even wanted to handle dead bodies for that long. Logically, that probably wasn't what this gas was though. An industrial building had various needs for gases, so it made sense to find pipes that carried it. It was just surprising to her that there was still gas in the pipes. She had no idea what this kind was though and wasn't sure how to find out. The mask would protect her from the worst, but she didn't want to stick around here too long though.
While Knight finished clearing the rest of the rooms, she took a moment to look for something to seal the pipes. A proper sealant would be nice if they had it, but even something as flimsy as duct tape to try to slow the speed at which it leaked would be better than nothing. They could figure out what it was and how to fix it properly later, but taking a moment to limit how much of a problem it would be seemed worthwhile. Given some of the other team didn't appear to have gas protection when they entered (or if they did she didn't notice it), she supposed she should give them a heads up.
"There's a gas leak in the basement. Don't know what kind. Might be toxic."
With that, she turned back to Knight and stopped broadcasting. There wasn't much else they could do about it, so all that was left to do was keep moving and clearing the place. She kept her place a few meters behind Knight and let her lead the way into the next room.
"I guess we'll have to be careful with fire too. I'm sure some of it has leaked from under the doors."

[attr="class","nikki109"]”Yeah, unfortunately fire’s right out unless we wanted to collapse the walls. We were lucky it didn’t spread too far, otherwise it would have ignited earlier.” [break][break]
Even through her filtered mask, the smell wasn’t exactly pleasant. Over and over and fucking over, each room had a new gas leak. It got all over her hair, it got all over her clothes, and it got in her clothes because they weren’t completely airtight. The smell would be fucking awful on the drive back home, she could already tell. Fucking disgusting. [break][break]
Given that the other team wasn’t screaming over the comms about awful smells, it was safe to assume they were still on the first floor. Knight would continue going through the rooms exactly as she did before until she ran out of rooms or an obstacle appeared that prevented her from simply going on to the next. She wouldn’t bother with the risk of shooting a firearm in this area, because it carried a smaller but still present risk of igniting the gas as well. She’d rely entirely on her Szabla and reinforced boots for the moment, well, that and her abundance of aura remaining. Can't forget that part.[break][break]
Truth be told she could probably get rid of all the gas and ignite it all at once and still be fine aura wise but depending on how explosive it was maybe the walls would just collapse on them alongside the ceiling. Nah, better to play it safe rather than risk a death that idiotic. That would be one hell of a way to go, but not exactly the ending she was hoping for when all was said and done. With any luck, the poisonous gas would have killed any other Grimm down farther and made their job a hell of a lot easier than it would have been. [break][break]
One could dream, anyway.
