Forsythia Kotenshi
"I didn't do it!"
| Age 18 Gender Female Faction Haven Academy Tier Freshman Face Claim Akai Haato from Hololive OOC Name Flamenami |
Character Traits
Date of Birth: April 20, 8 AV
Species: Eagle Faunus. Has a few feathers on her back, but not enough to fly or affect her clothing.
Romantic Orientation: Asexual
Aura Color: Bright yellow
Height: 159 cm
Weight: 42 kg
Color Naming Rule: Forsythia is a shade of bright yellow
Appearance:
Forsythia is not a physically imposing person, being short little gremlin compared to others her age. She doesn't give off an intimidating aura like other people, and she's shorter and lighter than most other girls her age. Her long blonde hair is often tied back with red ribbons, while tying a little bit up with a red heart clip.. She's got a little muscle under her clothes, but her fighting style makes it so that she hasn't actively trained her muscles as much as more melee oriented fighters.
Forsythia usually wears a white and blue shirt, with a red bow around her neck. She wears a blue combat skirt with special anti upskirt technology and ankle high socks and shoes. For her school uniform, she swaps out her normal skirt for a black and navy tartan skirt, and her jacket and t-shirt are switched with the standard black blazer and pure white polo shirt of a Haven student respectively.
She doesn't disguise her Faunus nature for the purpose of avoiding discrimination, but simply because it's much more convenient for her to use normal clothes instead of wearing backless attire or cutting holes into the back of her clothes. However, this results in her often being mistaken for a human by others, though she is open about her animal parts if asked about them.
Personality:
Forsythia is a mischievous eagle Faunus who enjoys pulling pranks, and joking around. She rarely takes anything seriously, preferring to take the "fun" route when dealing with any problems she comes across. Due to her prankster nature, she is very good at lying, though her skills in deception can also come in handy in other situations.
The only time she ever drops her joker personality is when she or some she cares about is in real, life threatening danger, or are facing life changing stakes, and have a very high chance of failure, and even in most situations like that, she can tend to make jokes and appear to not care about anything.
During combat, Forsythia likes to keep her distance from her opponents, pelting them with arrows and using her semblance to stay out of their reach, as well as trying to immobilise them with her dust arrows. She enjoys taunting her opponents, which makes her a particularly interesting matchup against easily irritable people.
Underneath her joking self, Forsythia is insightful and intelligent. However, she's not good at reading social situations, and can sometimes take her jokes a little too far, or make inappropriate comments. Despite this, she's usually very good at keeping herself in check, and is very socially observant in most other aspects.
The small and easily concealable nature of her Faunus traits has caused her to suffer from less racist treatment than other Faunus. The feathers do make small bumps on her back, however, and this tips some people off to her Faunus nature, meaning that she's not any stranger to discrimination. She's not blind to the plight of her fellows either, but she feels that racism is a problem that should be solved without a violent war like the Faunus Rights Revolution.

Biography
History
Forsythia Kotenshi never knew much about her biological parents, and frankly, she didn't care. Whoever they were, they had abandoned her in a random alleyway as an infant, and she was only alive because of her foster mother, Gabrielle Kotenshi. Gabrielle ran a small out of the way cafe in Mistral, and had always wanted a child, but had never found the courage to go out and adopt a child. Fighting the Grimm had been fine when she used to be a huntress, but dealing with another person? No way! When she found an infant girl alone in a dirty alleyway, she brought the baby back to her home and fed her. She tried to find the baby's parents, but to no avail. After a month of fruitless searching and a lot deliberation, Gabrielle decided to adopt the child, since she couldn't just let a baby die.
As a child growing up, Forsythia heard a lot of stories about the huntsmen and huntresses of legend, about how they fought of the Grimm, and much more. The little girl wanted nothing more than to become one of the brave heroes who fought against evil, and she told her mother as much. She was so astonished and awed when her mother told her that she had once been a huntress, she didn't even care all that much when her mother told her that she had been adopted that next week.
Gabrielle wasn't surprised that her little girl wanted to become a huntress, and dammit she'd get it done even if it killed her. Unfortunately, she found that she was far too busy to even have a chance of training her daughter properly, so she found a solution. Forsythia was trained by her mother's former teammate, Michael Sheng, and adopted the archer fighting style from him. Thanks to being heavily overprepared by her parents and mentor, she managed to make her way through Sanctum's tests with relative ease, and was accepted to be tested for Haven.
Maybe Haven wasn't the best option for her only child. The Fall had been catastrophic, and had caused many to doubt Haven academy, including Gabrielle. However, when the woman had suggested attending a different huntsman academy, Forsythia had made it clear she still wanted to go to the prestigious academy, her reason being that her mom had attended, and she had turned out so well. It only made sense that in order to become a great person and a huntress like her mom, she would have to go to Haven.
If grades were all that mattered at combat schools like Sanctum, Forsythia would have been a golden girl. Unfortunately for her reputation, the girl's mischievous nature didn't abate in school. Sometimes, her first impression pranks would earn her the ire of other students and teachers, meaning that there were some people who didn't like her. This dislike was what taught her that most new people didn't appreciate having a bucket of ink dumped on their new clothes, and as such, she's resolved to cut back on the pranks unless she was very familiar with the target, whether their relationship be good or bad. It's not like she hadn't had any friends. She did have friends back at Sanctum! But... she'd rather have as few enemies as possible, if you know what she means. After all, Haven academy was her dream! She wasn't gonna screw something like this up with a bad prank on the wrong person. Though if she saw the opportunity which ensured she wouldn't be caught... that was a different story altogether.
During the applicant tournament, Forsythia managed to pass by flying around whilst raining down arrows on her opponents. Lucky for her, she was good at dodging, because her taunts drew a fair amount of ire from some easily offended participants. Upon being launched into the Grimm-infested forest, she activated her semblance and flew above the trees. Lancers, Nevermore chicks, and Ravagers were easy prey, thanks to how easily they went down. A couple barrages of arrows were good enough to deal with any aerial Grimm. As for the terrestrial Grimm, she just flew out of their range and turned them into pincushions. She was caught off guard by a large group of ravagers, but with the assistance of a couple other applicants who were also being attacked by the aerial beasts, the Grimm were disposed of. The personality test was a cinch, or at least might have put in a few answers that were dumb in hindsight, but she hadn't screwed up enough to be judged as too crazy for Haven... she hoped.
Forsythia was ecstatic. She had been accepted into Haven Academy, her lifelong dream! And so many people around her were friendly. She felt as though they were all her friends already. Sure, she noticed those two students she had pranked earlier glaring at everyone, but she wasn't gonna let herself get down because of that. After all, it's not they knew she was responsible, and she was in Haven! She was on track to be a huntress, and she was gonna be one of the greats! Now, the smart thing to do would be to keep her head down not cause more trouble. But, forcing down her grin, the eagle Faunus knew she wouldn't be doing the smart thing.
