Walking on the nicer streets of the Wind district felt like a good change of scenery from my usual marauding trough the slums on Ground or having to make my way through the entitled assholes of the Cloud district that looked at me with contempt at best until they caught a glance at the tail dangling carefreely behind me.
Well, those assholes would have to suck it off because it was not going anywhere.
So yeah, practically promenading along the slippery slopes of the city. I silently enjoyed to small blessings of the sun gracing my face and the warmth of the earth that I could feel even through the sandals I was wearing to complement a pretty nice outfit I had decided to wear to my meeting of the day.
I had also unmade some of the dreads on the back of my head into a shower of wild curls. Mostly because they were becoming quite a hassle to take proper care of since I had less free time than ever now that I had to balance my training and my studies along with doing the violin and having the bare minimum of a social life as to not be called a hermit.
But in essence. These last weeks had been quite nice. Vital in general went better than I expected, we kicked some ass and promptly got our asses kicked in due time and place... So even if I’d been scared of not doing well enough to justify my presence there in the beginning. Now I could say I was feeling pretty ok about my performance in general.
Which meant that a nice celebratory meal was in store for us.
After out bout against team MARS, we had gone to eat some Vacuan food in one of the many stalls serving in the festival and kinda hit it off well after the fact. Ryan had been a little overly serious and reserved at the beginning but he was fun to tease and sometimes actually came with pretty witty comebacks himself.
Plus we shared the same kind of "grimm" humor, so it was easy to hang out with him. Especially as the days passed and we found ourselves more comfortable with each other’s company.
I felt like he was slowly, but surely breaking out of his shell, and that honestly evoked a nice and warm feeling on myself. I never actually had any real friends before (one with no strings attached) so getting to know this dude was a completely new experience to me.
From the things he had told me, he was just coming out from some heavy shit. But he had been actually looking for help (professional help, not the kind of help most teenagers seek for themselves but a useful one) and I kind of admired him for that, for having the bravery and strength to admit when he was not fine.
So to make things short, it was quite a cool association the one that we were building with each other. And I felt like it was being pretty rewarding for both of us.
Crossing the threshold and into the cafe, I was received by the warm atmosphere of the room, a brightly illuminated place mostly dominated by white, orange, and pastel brown tones. With low instrumental music playing in the background and ample windows that filtered the sunlight inside the cafe.
And the smell... Oh, the smell... Between the aroma of the multiple blends being served left and right and the sugary fragrance of a plethora of pastries that had my mind running and mouth-watering even before setting foot inside the shop.
And there, sited on a table nearby the window with a nice view of the outside street, there it was the man itself. A certain mister Ryan Vas that awaited for my arrival with a soft, placid expression on his face and an easygoing, relaxed posture while he talked to the waitress.
As I approached the table, I made a gesture for the waitress to stay for a second and wait for me while I skimmed through the menu before addressing Ryan.
-So, you finally gathered the guts to invite me to dinner? Gotta say, most guys don’t wait until 3 weeks have passed to invite a cute girl to eat something-
I jokingly said as I fist bumped his shoulder and took my seat in front of him. He was nicely dressed in an open navy blue blazer over a dark red t-shirt. Still unable to completely ditch out that “only suits” mentality he used to have by his own words.
So I was once more relieved that I had decided to wear one of the more pretty linen tunics I had for the occasion, a faded blue and white peplos that used to belong to my mom and reached to my knees and some sandals.
Hey, better to be overdressed than underdressed. That was a philosophy I could adhere to.
-Mistralian spiced tea with extra ginger please- I had no idea what that was, but it sounded tasty when I saw it on the menu. –Oh! And bring me a big ass slice of choco cake to go with it!- I called as the waitress was leaving, winking to her as she made her way towards the kitchen.
She was kind of a cutie, shame I was there to share the evening with Ryan... But I digress!
So, there we were, the place was nice, the weather was nice as well and things were building up to be nothing more than a pleasant afternoon catching up (as much as you can catch up from three days or so) and enjoying some good food with no possible drama in sight for a change.
-How’s it going, dude? Been some days since last I saw you, anything interesting happened?- I said lazily while leaning slightly on the table and in his direction.
–Nice getup, by the by, looks pretty nice. And it’s good to see you in an outfit that doesn’t look like it’s ready to strangle you in a moment's notice- I told him with a smirk as I waited eagerly for my beverage.
