[attr="class","RDcontainer"] [attr="class","RDcontent"] “Now, now! I understand that you are dealing with a lot of stuff right now. I am too, and I want you to know that I have enjoyed us airing our…our…” Holly was silent for a moment, before she gazed at the cheat sheet she had put on a few keywords. “…airing our grievances.” [break] [break] “…”[break] [break] “I will work on my own ideas about your kind of people and try to work to overcome them. You Faunus aren’t all bad. I know that. Some of my friends are my friends despite being Faunus.”[break] [break] “…”[break] [break] “I found this a very productive conversation and I thank you for your understanding my problems.”[break] [break] “…”[break] [break] “You know…you are really cute…”[break] [break] “…”[break] [break] “Sorry, that was inappropriate of me to say but…”[break] [break] “…”[break] [break] “Yes. I will scratch your ears!”[break] [break] “GET A ROOM YOU TWO! OR LET ME WATCH, HOLLY!”[break] [break] “…Sorry!”[break] [break] Holly was reminded of the fact that she wasn’t alone with her conversation partner in the dimly-lit sundry shop. It was situated in one of the less run-down parts of the Ground District, and it sold a wide variety of off-brand merchandise that just didn’t make the cut. Candy bars that looked just close enough to the real deal that moms bought them, bargain-bin electronics that would function for a whole week if you were lucky, and cheap toys that wouldn’t pass any safety or health standard in Vale or Atlas for being potentially harmful to children, pets, and a sense of fun. Holly was at that section of the store, talking to a very cute specimen with nice rabbit ears and a face with cheeks you just had to squeeze. [break] [break] Holly was talking to a man-sized stuffed rabbit in the corner of the store at off-hours when almost nobody was there.[break] [break] It had come to her understanding that she was what was colloquially called a ‘bigot’. After walking in the street one day minding her own business, she saw a kid standing alone. This child had a tail that Holly judged to belong to a cat or a tiger or some other kind of feline. Holly wanted to be helpful, thinking that the kid was lost. She had walked up to her with the best of intentions of helping this wayward soul. [break] [break] She had asked where the kid’s litter was and if she was lost trying to hunt for mice.[break] [break] Her mother who just came around the corner with bags of groceries took seemed to have taken offence to that.[break] [break] Holly said that she shouldn’t get her tail in a twist and that she could get her some nice catnap really easily as she once tried to lure a bunch of alley cats into her clubhouse to deal with a vermin infestation.[break] [break] Holly was berated with every slur she knew from memory, and several she didn’t knew existed.[break] [break] Holly started to cry, having meant no offence at any of her words. Then the child started to cry, her name was Reese by the way, and then the mom started to get more emotional and said that Holly was a bigot who should treat people with more respect if she truly wanted to treat Faunus fairly.[break] [break] None of her friends ever brought this up, so this was all a surprise for her.[break] [break] So, she couldn’t really ask any of them for help if they didn’t think her behaviour was a problem. Perhaps they were all bigots that Holly could help as well when she had helped herself. She formulated a plan. [break] [break] Try to find out what you are saying is wrong, try to not say those things in a safe environment, and eventually try and see if you see any improvement in a real conversation. [break] [break] Holly knew that this store had a person-sized rabbit doll in the corner. She had come here a lot of times as they sold weird seeds in the past, as well as a lot of other cool junk. She kinda hit it off with the girl who manned the counter. She was the daughter of the store owner and not much older than Holly. Naval was her name. Holly had gifted her a lot of herbs when she still actively grew those more and Naval had called her a ‘Friendly-Neighbourhood Pusher’, which was weird. She never really pushed anyone. Holly still occasionally brings her some stuff, and Holly was told she could always come to the store to just…hang around. Holly never really did that before, but as she saw the rabbit toy and thought about the plan to use it to try out conversations with Faunus…she started to go to the store a lot more even when not buying stuff. No idea if it made them friends, but she and Naval seemed to enjoy each other’s company well enough.[break] [break] Making her way over towards the counter, her cheeks slightly flushed as Naval seemed to have heard the whole conversation. The blue-haired store clerk hung on the counter slouching, seeming to give Holly a coy expression and giving air kisses. There hasn’t been anyone inside the store after Holly entered, and apparently the Huntress had been the only entertainment this whole time.[break] [break] “Ya shoul’ honestly just take da rabbit with ya, pink. Da wanted to throw it out for a while now. Take up too much space.” She said while grinning. Holly had been coming to the store when she could for two weeks now. “I…how much does it-“ Naval cut the girl off, placing her own finger on the pinkette’s lips. “T’is a gift. Ya know I owe you plen’y. Speaking of which, I got som’thing else for ya. It sells even less than the one-ply toilet paper.” Without further introduction, Naval ducked behind the counter, taking out a large pink bottle and placing it on the counter. Holly inspected it, but the label was…Holly was 90% sure those symbols couldn’t be legally called letters. Noting her confusion, the clerk explained. “Some’ing wrong in the factory. It is smashin’ stuff though. I owe you plenty, an my shift is over in half an hour. How about we have us a lil’ get-together? You seem…lonely.”[break] [break] Well, Holly didn’t really have a reason to decline. What is the worse that could happen?[break] [break] -[break] [break] Slate’s door was slightly opened. That was the first sign that something was maybe amiss. If someone would open the door, the sound of wood pushing a bottle aside was the second sign that something was not as she left her room. [break] [break] Seeing Holly laying on the floor on a pile of Slate’s clothing was the ultimate sign that stuff had happened in this bedroom. The botanist was wearing an oversized black T-shirt with a logo of a punk band called ‘Death Vipers’ on display. It was a green snake firing two machineguns up in the sky while being on fire. It was large enough to cover her from shoulder to knees, so it was actually less revealing than her regular dress. Her pink hair was neatly packed in a bun made with near military precision. This was weird, as her hair was anything but orderly even on the best of days. The girl had seemed to be gathered all of the clothing she could find in the room, and the closest, and placed it all in a pile on the floor before collapsing on it. She clung to what seemed like one of Slate’s training jackets. Of course, the girl couldn’t use the bed. There was a giant white rabbit on the bed sitting upright. It had a cool set of sunglasses on his head and had a bunch of vines swung around him in a stylish fashion. The last off-key element in the room were several pink bottles around the room. One of them was opened and near Holly, while there were a lot of them unopened strewn about. [break] [break] Holly herself seemed to be half-awake, half-asleep as something or someone entered the room. She blinked for a moment, before she spoke while not really looking at the new element in the room. “Wabbit! there are guesst…the vparty goes ojn! Ryan, ttake their coat and tell them to takke off their shoes! We gots a new rzug!” |
