Nova Star
"......."
Age 20 Gender Female Faction Atlas Academy / Bastion Combat School and Testing Facilities / Haven Academy Tier Freshman Face Claim No series. Art made by www.deviantart.com/cyan-orange-studio OOC Name AbstractCloud |
Character Traits
Date of Birth: 5 AV
Species: Faunus (Cuttlefish - Traits gained: Color changing (Specifically hair, eyes, and skin))
Hometown: Atlas
Romantic Orientation: Lesbian
Hair Color/Style: Nova’s hair is mostly purple, blending into blue along the edges. She lets her hair stay in its natural, slightly wavy state and has grown it all the way down to her lower back. Casually she keeps it loose, but when she’s on a mission or in any sort of physically demanding situation she ties it up into a long ponytail or a bun.
Eye Color: Nova’s eyes change when she uses her semblance. Normally they are blue, but they deepen to purple and then red as she gains speed.
Aura Color: Nova’s aura matches her eyes in coloration, changing along with her semblance use.
Height: 65 inches
Weight: 63.5 kg
Appearance: Nova is a tall, fit woman that has obviously gone through her fair share of military style training and drills to keep herself in tip-top shape. She has the body of a runner, less bulky muscle and far more lean upper body muscles and larger leg muscles. Nova generally carries herself with a certain amount of self assuredness born mostly from long years of intense training and participation in the Bastion combat school.
Nova tends to wear crisply ironed and maintained pants along with a looser shirt and a bomber-style jacket with a huge logo of the Bastion combat academy testing division. She has let her attention to detail in fashion lessen since leaving Atlas, and the only remnant of that drilling is her pants which, in contrast to the rest of her outfit, are always in perfect parade uniform condition.
When seen out and about, Nova is rarely without her motorcycle and the weapons attached to it. All experimental Atlesian creations that she has been chosen to test.
Personality: Nova absolutely comes off as aloof to most people. She has earned a name for herself as a person who ignores others and focuses entirely on herself instead of the betterment of her classmates or peers.
This is partially true, in that she often ignores people, but those who spend any amount of time around Nova quickly learn that she is completely deaf. She doesn’t comment on it often, and as a result her inability to hear and refusal to tell people that has led to her somewhat negative reputation.
Once someone has actually spent time with her though, Nova is a fun-loving, risk-taking, and generally excitable person that absolutely adores learning about the newest tech or testing new creations that may or may not be safe. She does often come across as overly strict and regimented, a result of her training and the general culture of Atlas.
Color Naming Rule: Nova’s are a wide variety of colors, but often can be purple and blue. Stars are bright and can be a wide range of colors as well, from red to white to yellow and more!

Combat & Inventory
Shooting Star
Rank of Semblance: D
Semblance Type: Physical Boost
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: Nova has the Physical Boost semblance of Shooting Star which allows her to deal additional damage with an attack based on her speed that also deals damage to her, along with a line of damage behind her based on where she had moved.
Description of Semblance: Nova can activate her semblance for a small cost of aura. When she does so, she begins to glow brightly like a shooting star the faster she moves, leaving a trail of light and star-like particles behind her in a line until she hits something with an attack, at which point she deals additional damage based on the speed she was currently moving at when the attack was made to her target. This also ignites the line of stardust behind her, damaging those within it based on her speed.
Mechanically, when Nova activates her semblance she begins to trail a line of stardust behind her that extends a maximum of 5-8m behind her like a comet's tail. When Nova lands an attack while her semblance is active she deals an additional attack worth of damage equal to the current speed she was moving at to a maximum of her semblance rank on top of her attacks original damage to the first target and everyone within the trail of stardust she left behind also suffers the speed-based damage, though not the attack damage (e.g 70km/hr at rank D, for D rank additional damage). Nova also takes this damage as her semblance causes a small meteor-like impact.
Drawbacks of Semblance: Nova suffers half of the additional damage that she deals directly to her own aura, meaning if she is running low on aura using her semblance could very well be a death sentence. In addition, she has to be able to move at high enough speeds to properly get value from her semblance, so being restrained or otherwise stopped from moving makes it useless.
BastionTech Experimental Combat Cycle (Affectionately referred to as BECCy)
Rank of Weapon(s): E
Description of Weapons(s): BECCy is a Atlas created motorcycle that is designed to be used in combat against grimm by trained huntresses or huntsmen. The current design is a prototype that Nova is acting as the tester for.
The bike itself is a very sleek, armored motorcycle painted entirely white except for the symbol of Bastion Academies testing division which is a silver cog overlaid on a black castle wall. It carries a mounted automatic rifle that can be removed for use seperate from the vehicle itself or left attached and fired via a trigger on the handlebars, and a small missile pod on the front of the bike as an additional ranged option. BECCy also has a large, high-tech pike that is attached to the vehicle via tubing that allows the use of the bikes experimental dust engine to empower the pikes attacks with dust effects.
BECCy’s main experimental component is the dust powered engine that allows for intense speed and maneuverability beyond the usual motorcycle, at the risk of… Well. Nobody knows yet, that’s why Nova is a test pilot.
Non-Combat Abilities
Name of Non-Combat Ability: Stunt Driver
Rank of Non-Combat Ability: E
Description of Non-Combat Ability: Nova is a skilled driver of all sorts of vehicles, though she focuses mainly on testing new experimental designs and as a result leans towards a more ‘stunt driving’ aspect of things than the average person. Jumps, wheelies, spins, all of it is fair game for her.
Combat Abilities
Name of Combat Ability: Supersonic (Speed)
Rank of Combat Ability: D
Description of Combat Ability: Speed is the name of the game for Nova. She drives fast vehicles, she runs fast, and she fights fast. Honed thanks to a love of racing and the sometimes dangerously fast vehicles she was allowed to test at Bastion, Nova lives up to the name of her semblance even when she isn’t using it.
She can run and drive BECCy in combat at speeds of up to 70km/hr, and she’s working on getting faster.
Name of Combat Ability: Bastion Endurance Training (Durability)
Rank of Combat Ability: E
Description of Combat Ability: Years spent in the Bastion combat academy meant that Nova was expected to have at least a minimum level of physical toughness and endurance, as all Atlesians are expected to excel. She has maintained that training over the years since graduation and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
Her aura as a result of this training is roughly the strength of stone.
Name of Combat Ability: Hit and Run (Melee Accuracy)
Rank of Combat Ability: E
Description of Combat Ability:Nova has spent many hours training with her accuracy while moving at high speeds both on and off the vehicles she drives, allowing her to remain rather accurate even when moving far faster than is usually practical for aiming. At least with her melee weapons.

Biography
Vitals
Primary Drive: Nova is here as a transfer student from Atlas Academy, and as such she sees it as her responsibility to represent Atlas and its interests, as well as to ensure that she makes them look good and gives a good name to the skill of their huntsmen and the effectiveness of their training and combat schools.
Goals related to this as a result are basically just performing very well as a Huntress in Haven, to excel in her classes, and to take on any missions required to help solidify Havens power and help to secure the city after the Fall and the loss of most of their competent Hunters.
All decisions Nova makes are based on what she believes will be best for Atlas. She justifies her actions and decisions by knowing that she is likely one of the most competent Hunters in Haven, and that it is her responsibility to keep that impression intact.
Fears: Nova’s deepest fear currently is failing her superiors back in Atlas. She’s been fully militarized since youth, so disappointing her superior officers is truly an awful thing to her and something she takes every effort to avoid.
Nova is also much more minorly afraid of:
- Losing family
- Being unable to fight/drive
- Ghosts
Style of Self-Expression: Nova is deaf due to an explosion in one of her testings at Bastion. As a result, she communicates with others mostly using sign-language which is very hit or miss since not everyone knows it. She can talk, though with a heavy, heavy deaf accent and no real volume control as she can’t hear herself. She is far from shy though, instead being somewhere just slightly on the side of outgoing when people can understand her properly. Nova is generally very terse in her choice of words, a by-product of military training.
Internally Nova is a very confident person, especially regarding her skill as a Huntress and as a soldier of Atlas. She expresses this very obviously with her speech/signing usually being authoritative and strict even to those she technically doesn’t outrank. She is also one to be confident in her skill to deal with problems, and will do so without consulting others unless the situation demands teamwork. Nova absolutely is a person who cares more about actions than words. Got to walk the walk.
Nova was born to a middle class military family that had all either attended Bastion, Atlas Academy, or a military school. Sometimes all three. That heritage mostly shows in the same ways as her military training manifests, as mentioned earlier.
Most Important Thing: Nova has two main important things, the first of which is twofold - her family and their achievements within the Atlas Military or Hunters, and her own achievements in both Bastion and Atlas Academy. The second is her service to her superiors in Atlas, and now in Haven as well since she does respect the teachers and faculty at Haven. If someone dares say that her family hasn’t done their duty to Atlas, or that she didn’t succeed as much as she did in combat school or the academy then Nova will become very defensive.
She is also willing to kill for Atlas without question, such was drilled into her very early on in Bastion. Be that defending their interests, or defending Atlas in a more literal sense.

History
Nova was born to an Atlesian military family. Her mother is a member of the army, and her father is a Huntsman that graduated from both Bastion Combat Academy and Atlas Academy many years before she was born. As a result, she didn’t have any real say in the path her life took especially after her semblance became obvious to her parents. And so the moment she was old enough to be enrolled in the youth military schools she was, and from there she moved on to Bastion Combat School.
Bastion is one of a few different Combat Schools in Atlas, meant to be attended before one goes to Atlas Academy itself for full on huntsmen training. It serves both to teach new students how to fight using their semblances and the unique weaponry that is so iconic to huntsmen, but also drills into them more of the Atlesian military doctrine and philosophy, ensuring that all the students coming out of Bastion are well and truly soldiers even before they have become hunters.
Bastion also serves the Atlas military and academy as a testing area for new weapons, vehicles, and other technology that could be useful to either Hunters or the army. Nova was quick to sign on for the experimental vehicle testing as driving was one of her biggest passions outside of her near non-stop military drilling. During her time in Bastion, and even for her small bit of time in Atlas Academy, she was given a string of different vehicles of varying uses and safety levels to drive around and test and even use in combat.
It was during one of these vehicle tests, specifically for a near-ground aircraft that was meant to go extremely fast, that a malfunction caused a large explosion along with the near complete failure of the entire vehicle. Nova was injured quite a bit, even with her aura, but the most long lasting and traumatic damage to the young woman was the complete and total loss of her hearing thanks to the power of the explosion.
Deafness didn’t stop her from continuing tests for Bastion, or from moving through the rest of combat academy with distinction befitting her family's heritage. She graduated from Bastion some time after losing her hearing, and attended Atlas Academy itself for a short while before an opportunity presented itself. The Academy was sending one student to Haven to act as a sort of exchange student, even though Haven was sending nobody in return. The student would learn at Haven and receive their Huntsman license from the faculty there after they completed the full amount of training and education required. But while they were there, they were also meant to show the people of Haven and the city that hosted it just how superior Atlas was both in training and technology, along with providing whatever aid and skills they could to support Havens rebuilding into a proper school once again.
Nova jumped at the chance to travel outside of Atlas, and to be able to represent her country and schools abroad was an extremely enticing offer for her. Nova was lucky enough to be selected for the task, and recently arrived in Haven to begin her education there.
