So, lost in his work, Opal never even saw the fire as it hit the pumpkin, but he felt it. Even with his back toward it, he felt the heat on both his head and back. He had to fight the urge to roll away as for a second suddenly it felt like it was aimed in his direction, but just as quickly, the burning left replaced once again with the chill night air. Besides the few screams and shouts, it sounded like the worst of it was over now, leaving Opal only to wonder what the hell happens. Well, if he had the time for it.
It wasn’t like he could do much for the fox with just his bare hands, but he did what he could regardless. He had been a bit worried when the blonde girl had first rushed over with that overgrown sword of hers. The look in her eyes was enough to send most of the people that were around them running. Hell, Opal honestly thought she might for him thinking maybe he was the one that caused this. His hands were clover in her friend's blood, after all.
Instead, she broke down into tears begging for help for her friend. Gritting his teeth, Opal snapped and waved his hand at the girl to bring her over. “Talk to her. Make sure she doesn’t go to sleep, okay. I need to check to make sure nothing was broken…” He told Rose softly, laying the Fable head down.
…..
It felt like hours had passed by the time he heard the paramedics roll up to them. He knew that it couldn’t be all that long, but he was still angry. He wanted to jump up and yell! To ask where the hell had they been thirty minutes ago? Where has anyone been when the shit hit the fan, bounced off, and flew into the fire to stink bomb the house! In short, Opal was pissed, having only his training keeping his mouth shut as he spoke to the paramedics. Informing them everything he had done and of what little he could tell them about the girl.
It was only then that the exhaustion hit him as they loaded up the fox and began carrying her away. Between the panic of the night, overusing his semblance, and running and screaming, he felt dead on his feet. He almost collapses when he was suddenly pulled into a hug by the blonde! Quickly he flew his hands out far to the side, mostly to keep his bloody hands from smelling the girl's clothing. It didn’t help he was fully caught off guard by this and couldn’t find his voice until she had already thanked him and walked off. “Yeah, happy… to help…” He sighs, turning to look around. “Real smooth Opal.”
It seemed things were finally getting under hands from what he could tell. Not that it made anything any better as he saw the crowd of reported rushing the scene. “Great…” Knowing full well their presence here would get in the way of real work, but that was a problem for someone else. Not wanting to get attack by reporters himself, he quickly turned to find his sister when he spotted a familiar head of green hair hurrying toward him.
“Mint?! What’s wrong! Where Sapphire?!” His voice growing more panic as the woman got closer. He was about to go running off toward the last place he had seen her when the woman stops him. “Miss Sapphire sent me. During the… excitement, the Miss was hit by a stray projectile while helping others.” She said once again, stopping the young man from running off. “She already in medic care and wanted me to find you since you left your scroll with your jacket.” Holding out a jacket that looked like it had been stamped over and a cracked scroll.
He could feel his cheek heating up just now, realizing how dumb he had been in his hurry. “Right then. Get the car and let’s go. I think I had enough of the festival for the year…” Receiving a small bow from the woman as they walked off only to be blocked by a few people, reporters he guessed. “Oi, kid! Care to give a statement? We heard it was you who got the riot under control…” But Opal just cut the man off, pushing his way by wanting to leave. “No.” That was all he wanted to say before a camera was shoved into his face.
Done with it all tonight, Opal just reached up and, before either of the reported could pull away, froze the camera with the blood from his hand. With a shout of surprise, the man dropped the hunk of ice, giving off a satisfying crunching sound as it hit the ground. “Damn brat! You’re going to pay for that!” The man yelled, waving a fist at the pair. “Send the bill to House Machias!” That was all Opal would say as they left the area and headed to the car.

[attr="class","nikki109"]In terms of economic impact, the White Nights Festival was a roaring success. [break][break]
The first night had enough drama and excitement to get everyone’s adrenaline pumping, but the rest of the festival ran like a well-oiled machine. The only thing that marred the festival at all was an incident that occurred at the border between the Ground and the Wind District on the first night, and while the specifics vary the broad strokes are very much consistent. [break][break]
Event coverage to public, at least at first, ran an unfiltered and unedited account of the event due to news crews rushing in and live airing the first interview with one Alina Rybalka, but afterwards the news networks differ as to the specifics. What is clear is that the headlining story was the shocking story of Haven Academy student Holly Hock going on a rampage one winter night and causing heavy injuries to multiple bystanders to include permanent injuries to two and death to a total of four who succumbed to their wounds after reaching the nearest hospital. [break][break]
Holly was killed by a vigilante representing the Ground District’s Kozaks in a crowded street, and accounts of how exactly it went down differed, though the interview was live and hard to scrub from the internet once it was out there. In that interview the so-called leader of the Ground District group railed against Haven Academy and pointed out multiple times that this was the fourth time something like this has happened. Qiu’li at Rochdale, Ferric at Haven itself, Solomon in Kerch, and now Holly in the capital. She didn’t get through much more before the news cut of the feed, but the damage was already done. [break][break]
She continued speaking afterwards, but the news networks had already cut it off by that point. Those who were there heard it, and it was captured on scroll video by bystanders in decent quality. Alina spoke of the importance of choices, and that attempts to spin the story were disrespectful to Holly as well as the victims and those who were injured and may very well die as a result of Holly’s actions. Nobody forced her to do this, no aliens came down and mind controlled her, she simply chose to do this of her own free will. She made a choice, and so too did everyone else have to make a choice. It was the lack of choices made by Haven, which was the problem, and why she had to step in. Holly had the freedom to choose to do this, but Alina herself had the freedom to then make a choice to put a stop to it because she found that choice unacceptable. Haven wasted time and lives in their attempt to figure out a way to negate Holly’s choice, and she simply couldn’t stand by anymore and let more people get hurt. [break][break]
The official spin on the story is that there’s no hard evidence that Qiu’li did anything wrong at Rochdale, and there’s no hard evidence that Solomon had anything to do with Kerch. Both had allegedly died so deep in Grimm infested areas there were no bodies, and panic created shoddy memories from eyewitnesses. Ferric was confirmed, however… and now, with videos and photos of the event so was Holly. That was two confirmed cases of Haven students going rogue that they had no defense for, which wasn’t all that better than four. Haven at least took credit for getting the situation under control in three of those cases, but with the fourth… they couldn’t even get that. [break][break]
Instead of defending Haven, the news media started going after the vigilantes who had stepped in without legal authorization. For a little while, there were calls to formally charge and arrest the Kozak leader as well for her role in the events, arguing that vigilantism is dangerous, and she should have waited for Haven to solve its own problems internally. This was never done, likely because the intranet thought there was a point to be made that Haven maybe shouldn’t be trusted with solving its own issues after this latest very public failure. [break][break]
The official angle changed to be that the intervention of the vigilante was a risky move due to the crowded street and very real possibility of collateral damage. The correct move, and the one that everyone should make in the future according to the media, would be to call a Huntsman or wait for Haven to handle it. This came too late and was too weak of an appeal for a lot of people in the Wind District itself, however, and Haven’s standing there was tarnished significantly due to both the incident and the lack of responsibility being taken after the fact. [break][break]
In contrast, the reputation of the Kozaks in the Wind District went from completely unknown to a solid foothold at least insofar as people knew who they were now and were much more open to dealings with them than with the other many factions in the Ground District due to their swift and unapologetic intervention saving lives. They had a lot of room to grow with an entrance like that, especially with how completely ineffective Haven looked in comparison. It was a huge fall from grace in the public eye, which maybe should have happened months ago, but this was the straw that broke the camel’s back for a lot of people. [break][break]
This wasn’t anywhere close to the final nail in the coffin for Haven, who still had the most resources and public support in the capital… but this was perhaps the first time in a long while that there was a torrent of public criticism that wasn’t so easy to wash away. The Mistralian people were really getting sick of the same old story repeating over and over when it had never happened before, and the assurances that the problem would be fixed in the future simply weren’t credible at this point. Whether it was two or four times didn’t matter, because once was a freak accident but more than that started to go into inexcusable territory very quickly. They needed to rack up some wins after this, and fast, or public trust in that institution was going to fall far faster than it could ever be built up. [break][break]
Security was beefed up heavily for the rest of the event, with Huntsmen in every district of the city ensuring that nothing went wrong. Any problems that did occur were dealt with swiftly and attempts at violence were ended without mercy. Those who were too stupid to read the room and understand that this was the worst time to try something were not treated gently and were given the maximum sentences for crimes committed during that span of time. [break][break]
Holly Hock was declared dead, but nevertheless tried in absentia for her crimes as a symbolic form of justice and sentenced to death for the final charges of terrorism (due to her committing the crime with a pumpkin in the shape of a political candidate’s head with an effort to discredit the Peasant Party), second-degree murder, manslaughter, assault and battery, misuse of a semblance in a public space, disorderly conduct, vandalism, and littering. A big show was made of the trial in an attempt to make amends, but it was done a little too late in the week to have maximum impact.
