Notebook? Ready!
Assortment of pens? Ready!
Appropriate clothing? Ready!
Floofy hair in a bun? As much as possible!
Berwyn looked at herself in the mirror in her room. Well, in the room she shared with Bianca. Their room. Which also made it their mirror. They both used it, after all. As roommates. Friends. Lovers?
The giantess shook her head. This was not the time to daydream about what kind of relationship you have with Bianca after everything that happened in the woods and at the lake and after all of that! This day is about you! Put her out of your mind and focus on yourself! Well, also about Lynn! Mostly about herself, though. She had a meeting in 3 minutes tha-
3 minutes?
Berwyn looked at her scroll as she checked if the time on the alarm clock was correct.
Oh bother...
Berwyn was practically slow running through the hallway as she made her way to Lynn Morgan's office. The two had a meeting in 2 minutes, and Berwyn had been looking at herself in the mirror for too long to check if she looked presentable. The point of this face-to-face?
Over the course of a few months, Berwyn had been dropping more and less obvious hints that she wanted to become a teacher after graduating.
It had started with trying to ask more questions in class, and trying to learn from how the teachers answered.
Then she began to volunteer for whatever task either them or one of the class captains asked to do.
After that she started to read about teaching methods and conveniently left the books on her desk in plain view.
...She eventually just asked Lynn Morgan if the two of them can have a chat about becoming a teacher.
It was honestly the thing she needed to do from the start, but she was somewhat frightened of just asking it as plainly as that. Like it becoming real. Thinking about her future was one thing, but actually acting upon it was something else. Well, that meeting was now 1 minute from now. Berwyn slow ran as quickly as she could, without breaking the universal rule that you do not run in hallways.
One minute over 4 pm, being shamefully late, Berwyn knocked on Lynn Morgan's office door. It was a gentle, but firm, announcement of her arrival. She hated herself for being not on time. Even if it was but a single minute, and she knew very well that Lynn wouldn't mind it because she was as sweet as her taffy, Berwyn felt a ping of shame crawling on her skin. The giantess' voice was heard from behind the door. "Miss Morgan? It is Berwyn. May I come out?... In? May I come in?"
Stupid Bianca still on the mind! Stop it Berwyn!

Lynn was always excited when students expressed any interest in one day following in her footsteps, or any other teachers for that matter. Too many people wanted the glory of being a full huntsman forever, but the world needed those who were willing to guide the next generation to becoming huntsmen as well. Berwyn was the first student at Haven that had requested to shadow an instructor and help lead some classes, and Lynn was quick to jump on the opportunity and set up a meeting. [break][break]
Her office door was always open, literally she never closed the thing. But every student so far had been extremely polite and knocked on the door regardless. Such was the case with Berwyn as well. [break] Lynn stepped out from behind her desk, smoothing out her dress and adjusting the sunhat she always wore as she moved over to the door and pulled it all the way open. ”Berwyn! Welcome! I’m so happy to see you, please come in and make yourself comfortable. If you need anything just ask, alright?” She spoke softly as she always did, like a gentle rain heard through the walls of a house at night. [break][break]
Once Berwyn stepped inside, she found the small office had been very pleasantly decorated with ocean-blues and seafoam colors. Plants from all over remnant were all over the room in various planters and pots and paintings had been set up all over the place. Her favorite plants were the cacti, she had six small pots with cacti of varying sizes, shape and color on her desk alone along a bowl of her homemade salt water taffy. The back wall had a large aquarium blocking the entire window, and it bathed the room in a blue-ish, watery light from the sun outside. Truly not the standard professors office, but Lynn was far from the standard professor. [break][break]
She moved to sit in her chair, tipping her rainstick over to fill the room with the pleasant rainy sounds as her and Berwyn settled in. ”Please help yourself to the Taffy! And then I want you to tell me what all you wanted to talk about today, alright? We spoke about it a bit already, but I want to hear it again so that we’re on the same page! I fully support your goals of being a teacher, it’s wonderful for me to hear that from one of my students.” A gentle smile as the woman adjusted herself in her seat and then finally steepled her fingers on the desk with her full attention devoted to Berwyn.

Could you hug me and adopt me and say that you are proud of me?
It were the three things Berwyn wanted to say out loud when that adorable woman who was also a qualified (and certified) butt-kicker asked if she needed anything. While Berwyn was honestly mature enough to keep those thoughts inside of her head, she knew for a fact that if Lynn had been her mother...things would have gone a lot differently for herself and she could have saved months of therapy, most likely.
"Thanks for making the time! Not to butter you up,"you adorable little gingerbread lady, said non-verbally in her mind, "But you were my first choice to ask for help about my future."
Once inside Lynn's office, it was appropriately themed. Honestly, it was kinda endearing though perhaps a bit creepy. Did she sleep in a giant sea shell that opened up when you entered the room? All of this fitted the teacher to a T, and it put Berwyn in a more calm mood. When gestured to sit, Berwyn didn't paused for a moment as she placed herself into the chair with a taffy in her hands. While the room had done enough to allow Berwyn to be somewhat at ease, it was clear that she was still tense. Her posture screamed that she tried way to hard to keep her back straightened and her head upright. Like she needed to impress this woman, who in turn did everything to get her to unwind. Her articulation and cadence was also too focused on appearing proper. She had practiced, obviously. "As I have expressed previously, I very much would like to commence into the occupation of education. I believe that my skill set will prove to be most suitable, and I am also adhering to the believe that your particular teaching methods will prove to be a...prove to be a...excellent uh..." She was blanking... Like this was a test and she didn't knew the date the Vacuo Accords were signed. She tried again. "Excuse me. I believe that your way of teaching is a prime example of...of..." And now she was just too much in the head space to mess up!
Her mind was too distracted with a stupid sexy lizard Faunus on the one side, and clearly mommy issues on the other! Why is this place filled with so many pretty women around her age category? You cannot suddenly decide after 24 years of living that you needed to have a crush on half of them! Her hands became sweaty and she developed a blush as she clearly had a case of the nervous. More so than she would normally have in class. Berwyn decided that there was one proper course of action next.
She just started to eat the taffy, and look down, and hope that everything would be resolved within the next few seconds as she would overdose on shame. 491 Words/ 960 Total

Lynn watched calmly with her same smile as Berwyn went through what was oh so obviously a pre-rehearsed speech that she had practiced probably hundreds of times in front of a mirror. Lynn had been there. Most people had at some point or another, and in this case it was a very good sign for the woman to see in her potential shadow. Wanting to say the ‘right things’ when meeting with people was a good way to know that the person was truly invested in the thing they were talking about, regardless of the success of their planning or the speech itself. [break] Berwyn seemed to be struggling on the success part. Stress was always the destroyer of preparation and today would be no exception by the looks of it. [break][break]
Lynn giggled as Berwyn stopped talking and just settled down into eating taffy. It was a light, wind-chime like noise that absolutely matched everything else in the room. Still, she covered her mouth to hide the smile and muffle the giggle just slightly. ”Oh forgive me! I just think that you are doing a wonderful job. You know I used to be the same way? I would stress for hours and hours before important things, run them over hundreds of times in my head, and then when the time came to actually do it..” She blew on her hands and let the air ‘push’ them out and away. ”Gone like the wind. All my preparation would vanish right when I needed it. And I think you are the same way, dear.” [break][break]
Lynn collected herself and took a piece of her taffy to nibble on as well. ”You don’t need to be so formal, is what I’m trying to say. I’m not Shadecloak or any other instructor, and /please/ call me Lynn, I don’t need you using my last name every time! Try and relax, just tell me what you like about how I teach without any big words or pre-planning. I want to know what you say when you’re speaking from the heart, not from the mind.” Lynn placed the taffy in her mouth and both hands over her heart for emphasis, giving another smile to Berwyn when she finished her piece of Taffy and once more leaning forward onto the desk, ready to listen. [break][break]
”Oh! Also. You don’t need to sell yourself to me, not really. I’m going to give you a chance to try shadowing me no matter what, this meeting is mostly just so that I know what you’re like and the kinds of things you wish to do! And your goals of course, and what you think this will give you that helps achieve those goals. Please. It’s a chat, nothing so serious as an interview!”

While she didn't mean it, having Lynn giggle at the flustered giantess didn't help as the flushed shade on her face only intensified for a moment. She embarrassed herself! Miss Morgan was kind enough to try and suppress it, but there was no mistaking it! Had the room remained silent Berwyn would most likely have become redder and redder till her face would match the color of her eyes.
But, the teacher began to speak and Berwyn looked at her like she was a happy little sun peeking out of the clouds to light up her day. While it honestly was the good guy equivalent of 'You and I are not so different, afterall' ...it worked like a charm. It made Berwyn feel somewhat at ease knowing that even such a caring person like Lynn had struggled with this same anxiety. "Thank you." Was all she wanted to express, and so she did.
Having her new set of instructions, Berwyn took a moment to properly get a grip of herself. She slapped her knees softly for a moment and seemed to look at her hands afterwards. In fact, she was counting her own fingers in a quick but effective mental exercise. The taffy helped a bit as well, but that was as good as gone now. When Berwyn was properly refreshed from her earlier embarrassment, she spoke again.
"I...I was bullied for many years. I am not a natural when it comes to controlling my aura. Combat school was hard for me, seeing my fellow students progress so much quicker than me. I am...not a small girl, but that doesn't matter compared to someone who is powered by their soul. I was the punching bag for my fellow students. Maybe I thought I had something to prove. Tried to keep up. Lashing out, wanting to prove that I was not...weak."
Berwyn didn't had too much trouble with speaking about her past, but it wasn't something she enjoyed doing. It was still essential enough to recount all of this to make the point she wanted to make.
"The teachers at Sanctum did their best, I think...but they were...a bit..." Berwyn averted her gaze from Lynn, needing a moment to gather her thoughts. "They didn't stop it. I don't know if they were incapable of doing anything against it, or maybe they thought I wouldn't make it as a huntress anyway so they gave me less attention. I barely made it into Beacon, and that was...not a happy year." Lynn Morgan most likely had read the report about Berwyn disastrous year at Beacon. How she was inadequate in both ability and personality. About how she overdosed on steroids and needed to spend months in rehab to try and recover from years of mental and physical torment.
She looked up again at Lynn, and had gained a sullen expression as she finished her tale.
"I don't want anyone to go through what I did. You are compassionate, and kind. You know how to make students feel like they are heard and important in their own right. In many ways...I would have wanted you as a teacher. Someone who wanted to talk to about what I was feeling. Someone who would have really listened. To make me feel...less like I was a failure...I guess."
Berwyn let out a sigh as she took another taffy, and began to chew on it as she waited for a response.
Lynn, as was standard for her, listened quietly and intently to Berwyn’s entire story and explanation of what she wanted and why she wanted it. She had read about the girl when she first accepted the job at Haven. She’d read about all of the students, getting as much information about the people she would be teaching and helping as she possibly could before she actually began. Berwyn’s history was… Difficult. Addiction was a common issue among huntsmen proper once they got out into the world and experienced some of the horrible things that were so common when dealing with Grimm. But to see a young girl go through an overdose? It was heartbreaking. [break] But! There was a light side to everything, including the bullying that Berwyn spoke about. Had none of that happened, had she been the same as every other student, she wouldn’t be where she was today. And the drive to make the world better, to teach people in positive ways rather than cruel and aloof ones as seemed to be the most common lately, was something truly special. [break][break]
Lynn placed one hand gently over Berwyn’s as she grabbed another piece of taffy. A simple, short, comforting little touch before she pulled away to let the girl eat her candy. ”Berwyn, dear, I want you to know that I am proud of you, alright? Living through what you have and still returning, even if it is to a different academy, to try your hand at a successful new attempt at school is very impressive. I am honored, honestly, that you see me as a role-model for the type of teacher you would have rather had back then, and the type of teacher you would like to be one day. I try to be as positive a person as I can for my students, I think that’s an important thing for young people to have when they go through something as intense as a huntsmen academy, and to hear you acknowledge that is wonderful.” She gave a bright smile and leaned back in her chair, flipping the metal rainstick again to refresh the noise- a noise clearly made by a speaker with a recording of a real rainstick, rather than beads inside the metal one itself. Still, it was relaxing. [break][break]
”So! With the motivation piece out of the way, what do you think you want to actually /do/ as my shadow, hm? Do you want to teach a class, run a combat scenario, or do counselling? There are so many options! It helps that I do so many things of course but you really do have your pick of the litter for what you’d like to do specifically. You can always just follow me around more closely as I teach some classes, but given your busy schedule as a student I’m not sure if you can also keep up with my busy schedule as a teacher! It’s up to you of course, but I suggest maybe limiting yourself to one day of helping me a week, maybe? Or one class.”

The taffy-chewing continued as Berwyn looked at how Lynn responded. The teacher's gesture of placing her hand on her own was something that didn't go unappreciated. The words that followed did so even more. While it might be the most basic thing someone can say to get admiration, hearing that someone is proud of you, and seemingly really meaning it, was still something that caused Berwyn to have a little jolt through her system that made her eyes shine for a moment. Feeling relaxed again after her tale, she chewed her taffy and swallowed before listening attentively at what her teacher had to say.
When the actual topic of what Berwyn was supposed to do, it was quite an easier choice than one would think. She had practiced this part a lot as well. Not wanting it to appear stilted, she remixed the speech that was in her mind easily enough. "I think that I want to start with shadowing you during one class. I do have my own school work, of course. I have been watching you during class a lot-"
Berwyn stopped speaking as her mind had caught up with her words, and after averting her gaze subtly she continued speaking with only a little bit of stutter.
"...and..and I have b-been trying to absorb how you teach. I want to be there when you prepare a lesson. Go through the whole process. Learn you method and see if it works with me. I eventually want to maybe try out standing in front of a class myself when I am comfortable with it and the subject. But to do that I want to know how to prepare and lead it from A to Z."
She placed her hands together, wanting to comment about the other propositions Lynn put forward.
"While I don't mind doing it, I have no idea if other students are comfortable with me being there when you have a counseling session. I...maybe they think I am intruding on that? I guess. I want other students to feel safe when they talk to you, and while some students might think I am a teddy bear...I don't think they would appreciate that."
After answering all of the questions, Berwyn had one of her own that she wanted to bring in. As she was honestly very curious about it. She pointed at Lynn's rainstick. "I have seen you walk around with that...rain tube. I know it is your weapon, but was it your first? How did you come up with such a weapon? I have been curious about it for a while now, and this is as good a time as any to just ask it. I once read a book that said that our weapons should be as much a part of us as our semblances, so I want to learn more about why proffesional huntsmen choose their weapons."
