Rank of Semblance: E
Semblance Type: Manipulator
Primary Category: Hazard
Secondary Category: Combatants
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: Faolan has the Manipulator type semblance known as Reject. This allows him to create and manipulate a translucent red barrier in front of him that can deflect attacks.
Description of Semblance: When Faolan's red eyes glow, it's a sign that he's ready to fight. With nary but a snap of his fingers, he can create a stationary translucent red barrier that appears on one side of his body and shields him from incoming attacks. This shield is roughly the same size as he is, with just enough room to shield his entire body. This shield's durability is equal to Faolan's semblance rank. If hit with a barrage of attacks equal to his semblance rank, the shield will shatter and all remaining damage will be transferred to Faolan himself. Attacks two ranks higher than his semblance don't have their damage reduced at all and strike him at full power.
Drawbacks of Semblance: He can only have one shield up at a time, so to create another facing a different direction, he'd have to destroy the previous one. It also only appears on one side of him. So him pulling a fast one and conjuring a barrier on the opposite side isn't gonna happen. Should the shield shatter, the user will take damage equivalent to his semblance rank.

Description of Combat Ability: This allows him to not be a stormtrooper when it comes to hitting things with his sword.
Name of Combat Ability: Stealth
Rank of Combat Ability: F
Category: Obstacle
Description of Combat Ability: A skill he honed through his days hunting in the forests around his village. It allows him to be nimble and silent, taking down his prey without them being any the wiser.
Primary Drive: Faolan's goal is fairly straight forward. He wishes to live up to his late grandfather's expectations of him, that being following in his footsteps and becoming a Huntsman. Faolan doesn't know how he'll get there, nor does he know if he'll succeed. But he'll be damned if he doesn't at least try. He doesn't care if he never makes a name for himself or if he doesn't become some household name. All he cares about is earning that title and making a difference. No matter how small it is. Just like his grandfather before him.
Fears: Faolan's fear is something rather mundane. It isn't anything grand like losing a loved one or being abandoned. No. He's afraid of bugs. The moment he sees one, all bravado leaves him and he runs for the hills. Or asks someone else to handle it. Though he'll try to play it off. He's not afraid of bugs. It's just, they're not aesthetically pleasing. Yeah. That's it.
Style of Self-Expression: Faolan, outwardly, is stoic and confident. He's often seen sporting a cheeky smirk and doesn't hesitate to speak his mind. He's not afraid of being social and will gladly go out of his way to talk to people, a double edged sword considering that he's not the best at expressing his emotions. Though he appears to be unaffected by what's happening around him, that couldn't be farther from the truth. Inside, he's a way more expressive person. Freaking out over the littlest things and overanalyzing simple situations. He never lets any of this show, of course, mostly because he's too awkward to do so. Any moments that have him freaked out just result in him spouting sarcastic lines in lieu of panicking inside. Sarcasm is the best defense after all.
Most Important Thing: The one thing that Faolan will never abandon, even if his life is on the line, is his sword. It is a weapon that was crafted by his late grandfather and it is something that he cherishes more than anything in the world. He'll gladly risk his own life to get it back if he ends up separated from it and would probably lose his will to fight if it was ever broken or lost forever.
Faolan grew up in a small mining town, one that was tucked away from the greater reaches of civilization. He lived with his parents and his grandfather, the latter of whom he idolized. His grandfather was a retired huntsman and a master blacksmith. He often crafted hunting tools for the people in the town, allowing them to bring back food with remarkable ease due to the quality of the weapons.
And it was during one such crafting session that his grandfather made him a sword. A sword that he hoped would inspire Faolan to follow in his footsteps. Footsteps that Faolan's parents never decided to mimic. It wasn't that he was ashamed of them, it's just that he wished they had a little more passion when it came to fighting and taking on the evils of the world. A passion that seemed to burn brightly in young Faolan's eyes.
Fast forward a few years and Faolan had become an avid hunter for the village. He was not only skilled at hunting down wild game, but also at cooking them once he returned. By this point, his grandfather had passed away, but it did not deter Faolan from continuing to hone his craft by practicing everyday with his sword, hoping to one day become a true huntsman, just like his grandfather.
A day that came faster than he expected. His parents had surprised him with a tunic for protecting against cold weather and told him that Haven Academy was accepting new students. All this time they had been saving up money to buy him the equipment necessary, knowing how much becoming a huntsman meant to him.
He spent the next few days preparing and with one final farewell to not only his parents, but the villagers he had grown so close to, he set off to tackle the world.
Upon reaching Haven, he managed to pass the tests that awaited him, though not without difficulty. The tournament was the first time had fought other people and while he held his own quite well, he still wasn't used to fighting actual fighters and the result was him getting beaten around quite a bit before managing to secure the win using a clever combination of his barrier and his opponent's tendency to charge in whole hog. In short, they knocked themselves out on his barrier. Lucky him.
The Grimm test was far easier. As an avid hunter, he was more than capable of sneaking through the forest without being detected, allowing him to get the jump on the creatures he was assigned to hunt. In many ways, they were easier than the animals he had hunted back home. Because at least those had some sort of survival instinct. Something that was nowhere to be found with these Grimm.
He was worried that he might fail the written portions of the testing, due to being homeschooled and not having a formal education, but they turned out to be easy enough and were mostly based around testing his mental state. Something that he passed without issue. He remembered turning the written paper into the teacher with a smug look on his face, one betraying the panicked screams echoing inside his head. Thank goodness his awkward nature helps him keep his cool, even if it's not voluntary at times. Which is kind of funny in hindsight. He was basically smug about finishing a test that wasn't based on intellect but rather one's psychological profile. He's lucky he wasn't kicked out right then and there for looking so creepy with that grin of his.
With the testing complete and his past behind him, Faolan only had one goal.
To become the Huntsman that his grandfather knew he could be.
