It was the weekend after the shitshow that was the toy takeover as she called it herself. It had been a few days since her weapons were shattered and broken, and she really really needed new ones. The tools the faculty were offering just didn't do it for her. She had made a few designs for newer weapons and had really solidified what she wanted. Now, if she hadn't heard of these "Kozak Kerch's" before, she wouldn't be out tonight. But she had heard whispers in the wind around the Ground District of this strange new... gang? Group? Faction? She wasn't sure what to really call them. Yet, they seemed to do what she was doing, at least a very short version of what she heard was them helping the less wealthy in the city. She could be completely wrong, but this could be a lead for the less orthodox weaponry she was after.
Around her shoulder was her tinker's tools she used to dismantle mechanisms and locks, as well as tinker with weapons and other more complex items. Slung to her back was a small tube that held some designs she had rolled up, and lastly she had a small bag slung to her other shoulder with the remains of her old weapons, the shattered longsword and broken crossbow. She wasn't too sure what she was after, but she had made sure to secure to money incase she needed to pay insane money for what she wanted. Was it her money? Fuck no, it was some rich bimbo's from the Cloud District. Those disgustingly rich idiots had more money than sense, they won't know it's gone. Now she just had to find where these Kozak's were located.
Fuck, they could be ANYWHERE.
It took a long time, some would say too long to just get some stranger weapons, as the sun had long set when she found out the information she needed. The location that was given to her wasn't too far from the main square, and it was easier when she took a few alleyways and avoided some of the thugs that crept to the streets at night. Hopefully this search would finish soon, she wasn't a fan of being caught without anything to defend herself besides some throwing knives.
The location in question, looked abandoned. She approached it from afar and it looked abandoned, when she got closer though, the windows were boarded up and just looked like some abandoned shop. There wasn't much here. Her source was very sure this was the place, but it just seemed... a bit shit for a group trying to improve the conditions of the poor. A quick gaze was cast about as she approached the door, trying to handle to find it locked, so a quick press against the door as the lock clicked loudly, she darted quietly inside before reusing her semblance to lock the door again. Now inside, it didn't look all too fancy. Maybe a quick search about the building would reward her efforts.

Being thrust into a leadership position still felt strange and she still wasn't sure how to feel about it. For the longest time, it had just been her and Alina, and Alina always stole the spotlight. She doubted most of the people they helped or encountered even knew who she was, and she was okay with that. Now there were hundreds of eyes on her, and while Alina was still garnering most of the attention, people were still looking to her for advice and support and that was more than enough to make her lose sleep at night. Sienna barely knew what to do with her own life let alone the lives of all the refugees. However, it was the first time in a long time she felt like she might be making a difference. If they -- they being everyone in the Iron Wolves rather than just her and Alina now -- actually managed to pull this off and retake Kerch, then maybe they really could reduce the world's dependency on Huntsmen.
The Kozaks weren't subtle. They really couldn't be. Sure, they weren't going out of their way to shout their purpose to the heavens, piss off every person in the Cloud District for no reason, or getting in anyone's way, but there really was no way to be subtle when they were taking care of well over 100 refugees, providing food, shelter, and other necessities for all of them and training for anyone that wanted to help take back Kerch. Further, they were getting more popular and more people were talking about them. It was unavoidable that they'd be pretty easy to find. Of course, some people may not want to walk up to the front gate given it was guarded, but they weren't exactly super hostile either. Still, the place was crowded with civilians because they just didn't have that much space yet. Well, at least compared to the town the refugees had to be taken from anyway.
That was why Sienna was out here today. Their core area was built up enough that they could probably afford to expand. The area they were squatting in was presentable, livable even, just cramped for the number of people they had to care for. There were a lot of abandoned buildings in this area, as it was likely closer to the outskirts of the city than anyone wanted to live. She was investigating the next block over, very overtly scoping the place out just in case it really did belong to someone. She'd prefer to know that before they decided to take it over. It had been about a week since she started and no one was complaining yet, and there weren't any defenses or traps placed either. It was seeming more and more likely that it really was abandoned.
Today she was finally going to check out inside. The door was locked and the windows were boarded up, but that didn't mean much to her. Hell, with as run down as the place was she could probably just kick the door down, but she opted to just use her semblance to walk through it instead. There was no sense in breaking something when she didn't have to. From the outside, the building looked mostly undisturbed, save for the footprints she left behind from scoping the place out last week. It's not like she was trying that hard to hide her presence.
The inside was pretty much exactly what she expected from an abandoned building. Most everything had been looted already, so the only things left behind were some trash and some half destroyed pieces of heavy furniture. Even the cabinet doors had been taken off their hinges, and a bunch of the tile in the bathroom had been stripped. She was amazed the door was still there. The entire place was covered in a thick layer of dust that looked like it hadn't been disturbed in a long time, making it seem more and more likely this place was completely abandoned. She still wanted to give it a thorough look just to see what she had to work with though.
She was carefully making her way back down the stairs when she heard the lock click open and saw more light pouring into the building. Someone was actually here? This was the first sign of life she'd seen all week, and this dust looked way older than a week too. Cautiously, she poked her head through an empty door frame to look back into the main room.
The storefront yielded no such clues for now. As much as she searched, it just didn't seem to produce any meaningnful results. Just dust, and alot of dust. She couldn't give up just yet, this group was loud enough to be in the talks around the district, so surely they weren't as elusive as herself. It was aggrivating to see, but the more she looked around the front, the less she found, until she eventually looked down. Whilst her own footprints were there, a second one with a different boot tread lingered. If the place was so covered in dust, why are these footprints so fresh?
Then she heard footsteps encroaching from behind, causing her to snap her body around, fists are the ready as a red headed girl poked round the corner. Is this place hers? What? Just as her fists were raised, she slowly lowered them, tilting her head in confusion. Within the dim light of the storefront, she gestured to her neck before pulling out her scroll and typing away before turning it, approaching with caution however to show the girl. "No this place isn't mine, I came here looking for people but I seem to have been given false info. Unless there's still something around. Why, is this place yours?" Her eyes kept looking the girl up and down, trying to gleam some sort of hinting about her and who she was. No face came to familiarity, but there had to be a reason she was here.
Once the message was read, she would put her scroll away and step back into the storefront, and continue rummaging through the same spots to see if she had truly missed something or not, growing increasingly annoyed at herself. If the girl would stop her and speak, she would stop her searching and approach again, but until then, she continued looking for signs and clues. It was possible that the red head was part of the Kozak's, but she wasn't sure of it. She didn't look all that freedom-fighty anyway.

Sienna's hand tensed on the doorframe when the woman noticed her, but otherwise she didn't move. That was exactly why she made sure to make her presence known from a safe distance, behind something, and in a way that wasn't the slightest bit aggressive. Sneaking up on someone in a place like this was asking for trouble. Fortunately, the woman seemed to calm down fairly quickly, though she wasn't sure how to take the neck pointing at first. That wasn't a threat was it? Normally that involved a different motion, but she wasn't sure. When the woman started to reach into her pocket, Sienna slinked back behind the doorframe so that as little of her face as possible was visible while still being able to keep her eyes on the woman.
When the woman pulled out a scroll, she relaxed a bit. It wasn't a weapon or immediate threat, and even if she was calling for backup of some kind, Sienna knew she would be to leave quickly. She wasn't that far from the rest of the Kozaks, so there wasn't much reason to worry. Nothing of the sort happened anyway, and she just read the message the woman wrote with her eyebrows raised. She wasn't quite sure why the woman was avoiding talking, the neck gesture went completely over her head, so she just looked around awkwardly to make sure there wasn't something she was missing. There didn't seem to be any immediate threat, but she did keep her voice down just in case.
"No, it's not mine. Or, well, at least not yet. I was thinking about claiming it because it looked abandoned, but if it belongs to someone else I won't. Who were you looking for? If it's okay to share. I wouldn't mind asking about this place."
The building wasn't anything special, it was just in a convenient location, so it wasn't worth starting a conflict over. If they were willing to negotiate for it, she might be willing to offer them something for it. Money was tight, but she might still be willing to work with the people that owned it depending on who they were. Or she might be willing to steal it anyway if it was some criminal group depending on the group and Alina's mood. Granted, the fact that the woman was willing to mention she was looking for someone so easily meant they probably weren't that shady.
The girl's reactions made Chloro a bit wary of the building itself. There could be more of her group or whoever inside, and she could be being watched by someone else other than her. Usually she had a good grasp of that but right now, it was a bit more unknown. The building creeked and groaned under the cold wind and it didn't seem like a great hideout at all. It didn't sit well with her, and the fact she didn't understand her gesture to her neck didn't help either. The last time she had tried to even speak, it was just horrible grotesque noises and awful gutteral sounds. It was more a monster than the small girl she remembered.
She gave one more look around before tapping on her scroll to give another message. Although, she hesitated for a moment before continuing. "I'm looking for the Kozaks. I've heard they can find some of the more stranger weapons. Heard they can make some stuff too. I need a new set as mine broke with those fucking toys came out of nowhere. It's fine if you don't know them, I'll leave and be out of your hair." She presented the message to be read before shutting the scroll so it can grow darker again. She could work so much better in the darkness, so if an attack was thrown at her, she could vanish and leave.
Chloro would pull up her back onto the counter and dump her broken longsword and crossbow onto the countertop, then popped the tube that was strapped across her back, pulling out designs for some other weapons. A long barrel rifle that required rechambering after each shot, and an intricate staff that can be parted into a long chain whip with hooks, letting her possibly use it as a grapple hook to swing from ledge to ledge potentially. She gestured for her to look if she wanted to.

The writing came as less of a surprise this time, even if she hadn't quite placed the reason for it. She was listening and watching closely for any signs of activity, but this area was as dead as it's always been. For a moment, she was worried she may have been too forward in asking for the woman's source even if it was the easiest way to decide what to do next. Fortunately, that didn't seem to be the case, though who the woman was looking for made her eyebrows go up.
Slowly, she moved through the door frame, making sure that her hands stayed where the woman would be able to see them the entire time. Then, she straightened up and did her best to look a little more professional despite what she was wearing. After nodding slightly, she took deep breath and a few steps forward to properly introduce herself.
"You're a few blocks off, but your contact might have seen me inspecting this place. I am Sienna Hajnal, Heneralnyi Oboznyi of the Kerch Kozaks."
She paused because that still sounded so strange to say. Not the words themselves, but having a title that actually meant something to some people and put her in a position of power. She didn't like it. Alina didn't thrust it on her or anything, it was something she chose for herself, but it was still extremely uncomfortable. It meant that she was in charge of supplies mostly, but if Alina was gone people were supposed to defer to her and that made her stomach do backflips.
As she made her way towards the counter the woman set all her stuff on, her brow furrowed. She knew they were gaining a lot of attention lately, but she didn't expect it to be for something like this. It's true that they were arming a good number of people, but they hadn't exactly advertised how they were getting the weapons. Normally, she would have refused to make weapons, or get weapons made, for outsiders, but they really needed the money right now, so she supposed she could at least take a look at the request. The plans themselves were interesting enough that she started tapping her fingers against her leg and her face relaxed a bit.
"We do have some weapon smiths but...why did you decide to seek us out as opposed to going to a blacksmith or something like Astarte? And why do you need a weapon exactly?" she started rubbing the back of her neck. "Sorry for asking, but I need to know where the weapons would be going."
When the girl came out from the doorway to full reveal herself, as well as standing up more straight, she was sort of confused. Unsure what to make of it, but she could get a full picture now, and well... whatever Bianca and Berwyn talked about seemed to happen so she was wary and cautious. She did look cute after all, but this wasn't the time for flirting. She had a job to do, and so did this red head, who disclosed her name along with her affilation. So she WAS right about the location, and this Sienna was looking to make it another Kozak hideout. Not bad. She would give a silent nod as she brought up her scroll, a quick text being sent to both Bianca and Berwyn of "I've met a cute girl what the fuck do I do." before addressing the topic at hand.
"Good to have a name to a face Sienna, Chloro Smoke is mine. I'm just some thief, nothing more and nothing less." She showed the message before turning it back to continuing typing. "I'm not a fan of using official businesses when there are others who could use the work more. As for the weapon, I'm just a simple mercenary. The recent toy scandal broke my old weapons, and I wish to obtain new ones. Ones that werent from the bandits that blockaded the city a few years ago because they were frankly shit. Apologises for the silence, I can't actually talk." She would hand the scroll over so she could get a good read, and Chloro gave another once over of the girl whilst she was distracted with the scroll.
I mean, she did look cute for whatever reason. Red hair and freckles weren't common in her mind to say the least. Was she really that dense to others?

Well, being a criminal did explain why she didn't want to go to legitimate sources, but Sienna didn't expect her to just come out and say it like that. She figured that'd be one of those things that she'd have to pry out of the other woman, and she wasn't sure if this made her more or less suspicious. Was this person claiming to be one type of criminal to draw attention away from everything else she did? That'd be really fucking weird, but sometimes people did weird things. Why would a thief need weapons anyway? Shouldn't they be avoiding conflict? Whatever, all of this was strange. One of the first things Alina did was try to declaw the local gangs and other criminals, so having one go to them looking for weapons and openly admit that was surreal. She had no idea how to take it and just stared at the scroll for a minute.
The message explained the gesture earlier, and she nodded. That did make more sense than the gesture being a threat given how cordial the other woman was being so far, but it just left her more confused. It did mean that there was no need to do anything drastic for the time being, so she could just ask some basic questions that would be necessary for weapon creation anyway to get an idea of this woman's motives.
This was stupid. She really shouldn't be doing this. Whatever, it's not like she had agreed to anything yet.
After handing back the scroll, she looked at the blueprints again and then back at Chloro with a soft smile. She kept her hands on the table so she wouldn't fidget too much, but there wasn't much she could do about how stiff she looked. She always looked like that, even when she wasn't worried about anything, but it's not like Chloro knew that.
"It's nice to meet you Chloro. Don't worry, I didn't think you were being rude. I was sure you had a reason for communicating on a scroll instead," and most of those reasons weren't actually all that sinister. "I'm taking a look at what you have here so far, and it looks like you already have some ideas and ways you're hoping to use them. I don't want to make assumptions, so I'm just going to ask: what do you need them to be able to do?"
She gave a nod to the greeting this girl gave, and it was going well. No violent actions, compared to some other encounters she's had before. Admittedly, mostly "her" fault but she ended them whenever she needed to. Either fleeing or fighting. Whilst Sienna looked at the drafts that Chloro had made, her scroll buzzed off. A quick glance at the message from from Berwyn surprisingly. Maybe they were together right now, hopefully she didn't interrupt anything. She would probably get it in the neck from them.
However, the message at hand had already transitioned from greetings now, so most of the message was sort of useless. She was acting natural, she was communicating, and she has somewhat interest in helping her get new weapons. Compliment though? There wasn't anyway she could really worm a compliment in at this stage, but she would give it a go. The girl looked a bit stiff, so was she concerned about something? Reading into the body language, she kept glancing around the abandoned store just to check for anything out of place before her attention returned to Sienna.
Topic turned to the drafts, and Chloro began texting away, making sure to clarify her writing which in some parts were shockingly awful. "Planning on taking up some jobs outside of the capital with a friend, as well as being capable to protect the ones who can't. Similar to what you do, in my opinion anyway. Everyone has their own opinion on how it should be done. Old weapons made me less mobile than I plan to be with these. If it's too much to ask, I'll try those places you mentioned, but I'd rather go to you

Admittedly, mostly "her" fault but she ended them whenever she needed to. Either fleeing or fighting. Whilst Sienna looked at the drafts that Chloro had made, her scroll buzzed off a few times. A quick glance at the scroll revealed three messages from from Berwyn and Bianca.
The other two messages from Bianca were very wordy, so she had to give it a brief scim but managed to grasp the basics of it. Bianca does love her words...

She would hesitate for a moment, looking up to Sienna for a brief second before dipping her head down again. How could see summarize this... Don't be too blunt, but not too desperate. Ahhh shit. This was a confusion one, but she gave it her best shot.
"And if it's okay, may I help this surveying? The Kozak's have caught my attention and I'm tempted after the shitshow of the festival and Christmas. I'd also like to get close to you. She then handed the scroll over to show the messages, trying to give off "interested" vibes with her body language. It looked a bit more awkward than anything.

Her faunus ears under her hood twitched as she heard the subtle, but distinct sound of a scroll buzzing, and it wasn't hers. She kept her eyes focused on the blueprints to stop her from glaring at the scroll. It could be a coincidence, just a random call or text from someone she knew that had nothing to do with anything, but claiming to be mute was a convenient excuse to be looking at a scroll constantly. It's not like she had any way to tell whether Chloro was typing a message for her or someone else either.
The answer she got was vague for someone that had specific enough ideas to write them down. It was strange enough that someone would come to them instead of an actual smith to begin with, but hearing...well seeing Chloro say that she wanted to get to know her specifically made her blood run cold. There weren't too many ways that could be interpreted in her mind. She didn't see herself as remarkable or worth much of anything to begin with, so anyone showing interest in her was almost a foreign concept. They had only met a few minutes ago, and that interest didn't appear until she had said her name and her position with in the Kozaks. It wouldn't be the first time someone tried to use her to get to Alina because she wasn't nearly as strong as her friend. Alina had no sense of subtlety and had already started a good amount of shit, so it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. That was all she could see this as.
"It's only natural that you be part of the process," she hesitantly agreed. "That's why I was asking what you wanted to be able to do with it. Specifically. We should talk about pricing soon too, because the materials needed to do something like this are pricy, and some are heavily regulated by the Artisan Guild..."
She paused and shifted her weight, not sure how to handle this anymore. Either this person was underestimating her or completely brazen. Was Chloro asking her to build a weapon to go after Alina with? That had to be stupid right? If Chloro wanted an excuse to talk to her there were a million better ones. This entire thing was weird and she wasn't sure how to handle it. She probably shouldn't hang around here too much longer, but she also wasn't sure if it was a good idea to bring someone right into the base. It wasn't a subtle base and just about anyone would be able to find it, but that was different from letting someone suspicious see the inside. She let a breath out her nose and looked back at Chloro.
"If you need to ask your friend for a second opinion I don't mind."
Normally, she kept what she knew close to her chest and was okay with acting oblivious, but in this case, letting Chloro know that she knew she was talking to someone seemed like the way to go. There was no reason to be hostile yet, but if the situation was going to turn hostile, she'd rather do it sooner than later.
Nice work Chloro. Judging by what she could read, is her advances that were honestly not advances at all and sounded like blatant threats, were not working and she took them the wrong way. This flirting thing is harder than it sounds... maybe actually having a voice would help but she would address this potential another time, right now she probably should clear this up before she gets a knife lodged into her spine from the entire gang. She sighed heavily as she held her head, shaking it. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Maybe this love bullshit wasn't for her.. whatever.
She pulled up her scroll again to communicate, not sending the text to the others this time round. She should probably confess about the stupidity of the last few messaages aswell. "Pricing should be no problem. She would pull out the pouch of lien and place it on the countertop, pushing it forward before tapping away again. "And... I apologise for those last few messages. The friend is uhh.. trying to help me with flirting and it appears I'm dogshit at it. Sorry for causing any panic, I don't want to cause trouble." She handed the scroll over to be read as she looked at the drafts of her ideas herself, making a few more annotations. Mostly to keep herself distracted as she'd keep palming her forehead as if to go "stupid stupid stupid".

She kept her eyes on the scroll, trying her best not to frown. She couldn't stop her expression from hardening though. Every click was being carefully tracked in her mind, and she was timing how long it took to write the message. That was the only way she had to even guess at whether or not Chloro was secretly sending another message to someone. Then, Chloro turned the scroll around and offered some money. Normal stuff. Then Chloro turned the scroll around again.
"...Flirting?"
There was no one else here besides her right? There was no way she could be referring to anyone else. Sienna's cheeks flushed and she stepped backwards, her posture becoming as defensive as she felt the past few minutes. Her eyes twitched as they couldn't decide whether they wanted to be wide or narrow, making her look more bewildered than anything.
"Are you making fun of me?"
Sienna wasn't pretty and she knew it. Her face was long and pointy, she had dark rings under her eyes and perpetual eyebags from lack of sleep, and was missing a few teeth due to not taking care of them. Her body was bony and had few curves. Her hair frizzy and thick. Plus, she had been told for most of her life that her faunus features were an eyesore. Even if those features were hidden under her clothes right now, the body image issues they created couldn't be ignored as easily.
After a moment, she took a deep breath, stood up straight, and tried to regain her composure. Her cheeks were still red and she suddenly looked a lot more tired than before. She still found it difficult to believe that anyone would have any interest in her without it being related to Alina or something else she was doing. Frowning, she let out another long breath. She was still feeling a bit flustered.
"Look, flattery isn't going to make me any more likely to make you a weapon, and it's not going to get you a discount. You don't have to pretend to be interested in me. Why are you so interested in the Kozaks anyway?"
Her attention was focused on her drafts as Sienna spoke the single word. Her eyes would look to her in the corner of her eyes but she didn't make any other movements besides that. She felt stupid, she wasn't fit for romance or whatever. She was stupid. Chloro watched the red head step back in confusion, which made Chloro apprehensive as she also looked up and was wary. Her hand hovered near the broken blade on the side, incase she needed it to dip. The sentence that came out made Chloro shake her head and her hands as if to say "Oh god no, no no no!".
She approached once again to take the scroll and tap away, a bit more hastily this time round than usual. "Not at all, just forget I said it. It was stupid of me." She showed the message to her as she awaited her to recompose herself, feeling very out of place and incredibly awkward. What came next was a bit... concerning. It felt like she still needed to clear some things up, so she leant against the countertop for a moment as she thought about the message to make, before starting it.
"I'm not trying to be flattering, I'm just speaking my mind. Why would I pretend, I've got nothing to hide. As for the interest in the Kozak's, my current 'lot' are reckless, idiots and stupid. I hate the vast majority of them, but they're aligned with what I want right now. Possibly will change soon depending on situations that arise. Having a way out will be useful."
She would hand the scroll over again to read as she counted the money in the pouch, totally at least about 2.5k lien. She wasn't 100% sure though, so she would close up the bag and hand it to Sienna, giving a thumbs up and an awkward wink. Truly a disaster this one.

"You're interested in a paramilitary force as a means to ditch your current group?"
Her tone was cold with a little venom seeping in. It made her wonder what kind of group Chloro was with if she needed an armed force to retreat to. For a moment, her eyes narrowed again as she started scrutinizing every inch of Chloro again, but then she looked down like she realized something and shook her head. At this point her story for what Chloro was doing here wasn't even coherent. She was chasing every weird idea that came into her head and that wasn't productive.
Chloro's posture wasn't aggressive, she hadn't done anything, and she even had a bunch of money on her. That was inline with her story. The other woman didn't look angry, just nervous or scared. It was the kind of posture that Sienna was familiar with herself since she basically always acted like that. With everything that had been happening lately it was hard for her to not be especially on guard. She took a deep breath and let it out. Chloro's claims could be easily verified and that would make things far less complicated.
"I'm sorry, I've been a little jumpy lately and the thought of making weapons for someone I don't know was making me even more nervous. I think I can resolve this though. May I see your text history? Seeing what you sent to your friend for myself will resolve any misunderstandings."
Calmly, she held out her hand so Chloro could put her scroll into it if she wanted. She had no intention of taking it forcefully and would let the woman leave instead if she desired. Sienna looked down, feeling bad for having to ask a question like that because if she was being honest that had to be 'bury herself in a hole' levels of embarrassing to show. However, if Sienna didn't see anything strange, then she would have no reason to distrust this person anymore. At least for the time being.
