Inserting the keys to the lock, Wolf twisted them and slightly opened the door to the apartment. Peeking his head in, he looked around before asking. "Aladriel, you there?" and waiting a couple seconds.
No response. A smile graced his lips. Excellent.
Opening the door wide open, Wolf grabbed the grocery bags he had placed in the hallway and entered Aladriel's apartment while whistling a tune for himself.
Making his way to the kitchen, he placed the bags on the kitchen island and looked around the room with a smile on his face. "Very well," He said to himself, taking his suit jacket off and rolling his shirt sleeves up. "Time to work."
Now, it's very likely that at this point you're wondering why he has pretty much sneaked, even if he had the keys, into his girlfriend's apartment. Well, there was a very good reason for that.
And that reason was a surprise. Because that very day marked their first anniversary, and he had been getting ready for months to make sure she would never be able to forget that day.
First, it had been making sure she knew he hadn't forgotten about this day (Why so many plans started with playing as you did?) by leaving her a sticky note on her bathroom mirror that morning after staying the night. Telling her to expect great things on this great day.
Afterward, he had arranged to have some of Aladriel's Company deliver a bouquet of her favorite flowers on his behalf, alongside another little note for her.
And now, he was getting ready to prepare the final surprise. He would be making homemade pasta, completely made from scratch. The tomato sauce, the pasta itself, everything.
Months of practice would finally come to fruition.
Getting the ingredients ready for the doug out, he quickly started to work into making it. And, once he left it to rest for the 30 minutes the recipe instructed, started to get ready to make the tomato sauce.
But as soon as he got the fresh tomatoes out, his company Scroll rang. Looking at his suit jacket with a raised eyebrow, Wolf shook his head with a grimace on his face. He had told them specifically to not call him on this day. He had made the notice months ago.
He couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at seeing the name on it. "Ai, unless it's something urgent, I don't want to know it. I set this date apart months ago to avoid this."
Even before she spoke. Wolf could already tell how nervous his little comment had made the poor girl be. With a sigh, he pinched the bridge of his nose and spoke in a softer tone. "What happened, Ai?"
"Well... Mr. Wolf," the girl started slowly, most likely scared of angering him. "We... We actually have your group on the premises, Mr. Wolf. And they... They're demanding to know where you are since they're running late for their rehearsals and cannot do it without your supervision."
'Fucking what.'
"Ai..." He growled with barely controlled rage.
"Y-Yes?" Ai replied startled, fearing the start of a scolding.
"Is Marcy around?"
"Y-Yes!"
"Hand her the scroll," Without replying, Wolf knew Ai followed his instructions as he could hear a soft conversation happening. And the smugness of Marcy's tone was everything he needed to know.
"Mr. Wolf~" Mary started, her smug tone seeping through the scroll, and almost causing him to roll his eyes. "May I know why-"
"May I know why you're fucking bothering me on my free day, Marcy?" Wolf abruptly cut her off. His tone harsh and filled with barely suppressed rage.
"Whaaat~" She continued her little charade. "What do you mean free day, Mr. Wolf~. Today we have a rehea-"
"Listen to me here, you little shit," Wolf finally lost it. "I do not care about what in the living hell you're trying to do here. But you will not ruin this day to me, you hear me.
The Company knows and allowed me to take one of my free days for this. The group moved all of its rehearsals out of this day due to it.
I have no idea why you girls are wasting your free day trying to ruin mine. So do me a favor, and leave the fucking building in peace. You and the girls have no reason to be there. So unless you want me to personally call security to have you all booted out. Fucking. Leave."
Cutting the call, Wolf placed the Scroll on the island with slightly more force than necessary. Rubbing his face with both hands, a heavy sigh left his lips as his body slightly trembled due to adrenaline slowly disappearing.
Why did the girls have to be like that?
As he tried to calm himself to return to the cooking, yet another set of bad news befell him.
He could hear the door opening. And that could only mean one thing.
Aladriel was back.
Looking at his wristwatch, he noticed that instead of him running late, Aladriel had actually returned sooner than usual. Well, even if she wouldn't return to a fully cooked meal, at least the prospect of finishing together was a good one.
But the problem was, his mind had not yet calmed down. Taking a deep breath, he did his best to put off a facade of normalcy as he grabbed a knife to prepare the tomatoes.
"Hey, Aladriel," he would say once Aladriel walked into the kitchen. Spreading his arms wide, he would send a big smile her way. "Surprise!" Dropping his arms, he grabbed a tomato with a free hand and started to explain what he was doing in her apartment.
"I was thinking about making dinner for you from scratch, but well. As you can see, I didn't expect you to arrive so soon," He chuckled to himself. "So, how was your day?"
Despite the facade, he was trying to put, anyone sharp enough would be capable of noticing the little cracks on it. His smile was too strained to be natural, his arms too shaky to be completely calm, and his voice far too sharp to be completely normal.
