I didn’t know what the deal was with the change of homeroom teacher. Or exactly why Lynn had to be replaced. I heard it had something to do with Carmim fucking up something, but the details were still up in the air to me.
It was a little sad, as wary as I had been of the woman at first. She had kinda grown on me with the passing of days. Even if I consider her to be a little too soft from time to time.
This, as a person, was no problem whatsoever. But it was probably a problem in an institution tasked with preparing the future generations of huntsmen.
Still, what needed to be done couldn’t be put on hold, least of all for me to sort how I felt about this new teacher. I wasn’t a student when they did their midterms, so I needed to get special permission from my homeroom teacher. So I could go on missions from the board.
I had been planning to ask Lynn about that, as she knew me better, but...
Yeah, now I had to go and ask for this new woman to let me go into dangerous missions without her even knowing me. So I had no idea how I would convince her that I was ready without sharing a single class with her.
And in a way, I was a little reluctant about dumping this responsibility in the new professor so soon into her stay.
Considering this. I was fully aware there was a significant chance my petition would be denied without even allowing me a chance to defend my case. Purely on the completely reasonable basis of her now being able to tell if I was ready or not.
But no one ever conquered anything without taking a chance! This was the reason why I, despite my reserves, was currently making my way from my room and into the newly established office of a certain Valeska Zolotova. Whose name was basically the only thing I knew about her.
Well, my appointment with Morgan had been apparently transferred to her, so we were both stuck with it anyway. Besides, I wasn’t alone in his, I would have Chloro with me, so it was not as if I one day just decided to go and bother this Valeska woman just for shit and giggles.
And speaking of which. I just managed to catch a glimpse of the mute girl walking down the corridor and in my direction. Waving to her, I quickly approached Chloro with a friendly, if resolute smile.
-Sup... Ready to meet this new teacher chick?- I asked as I eyed the door of Zolotova’s office, now just a couple dozen meters away from us. Straightening up my jacket a little.
I had decided to wear what I always wear. Sporting my sleeveless uniform that Berwyn had made a little more presentable for me (cleaner cuts that didn’t make it look like I had ripped the things apart). And my feet bare and in contact with the ground just as I liked them to be.
I had decided that I would present myself to the new teacher just how I was. I wouldn’t insult her by dressing up and pretending to be something I wasn’t. It was on her if she liked it or not.
And if not, maybe we could work out a middle ground or something. Despite all my bark, I wasn’t actually so unreasonable as to shit on her authority. And keep attending her classes like that if she had a problem with it.
-Welp... This is it, let’s go- I called out to Chloro, raising my fist to knock at the door. After being given the instruction to come in, I stepped through the threshold, holding the door for Chloro to enter as well.
The woman who received us was a blond one of about my same height and with a similar build. Bespectacled and carrying a friendly look around her. But didn’t gave such a “fairy godmother” vibe as Lynn did, but at least she seemed less tense than Shadecloack.
And, of course, there was the thing that simply couldn’t be missed unless you were blind or some kind of idiot. She was badly fucked up. Some nasty scars lidded the side of her face, partially obscured by an eyepatch covering what undoubtedly must have been a ruined eye.
I also had managed to notice the fact that one of her hands was a prosthetic, mostly because she seemed to make no attempt to hide this fact.
I was momentarily reminded of Chloro of all people. And how she had to deal with her own injury hidden just behind a small layer of clothing she wore to protect it.
Looking at the new professor right in the eye, I decided to present myself already and explain why we were there in the first place.
-Good morning... Thank you for lending us a little of your time. My name is Bianca Sabbato, and this is my classmate, Chloro Smoke. We will be being your students from now on. So nice to meet you- I explained, making a small gesture in Chloro’s direction as I presented us to Valeska.
-We came here to ask for your permission, so we can take missions from the wanted board on our own. We were supposed to ask the previous teacher, Lynn Morgan, but as you see... Yeah...-
At this point, I would take a seat if it was offered to us. And I also would be taking the freedom to give a small look at our surroundings. I was curious as to what kind of environment the woman would be more comfortable with.
-Well... The thing is, normally only students that approved the midterms would be able to take missions. But we joined Haven way after those where held, so we didn’t have the chance to do so-
Thinking back on it, I had joined Haven on the eighth of April. I wasn’t that good with dates, but that one I remembered for sure. Which meant I would be reaching the eight-month mark in a couple days. So me being in a place to take a midterm or any equivalent test was a possibility.
Chloro, on the other hand, had only arrived here about... A month ago or something? So she was in a way rougher spot we would need to downplay as much as possible to get her to come too. But I wanted to stay positive about it, so I hoped we both would be allowed to do this as soon as possible.
-But apparently, we have this option. So we were wondering if there was something that could be worked out for this? Sorry if this came out of nowhere. But we are also a little lost as to what to do, right, Chloro?-
I said, lending the word to Chloro, for her to communicate whatever she felt like adding. Of if I had forgotten something in what I said.
