-Hello, doctor... I think I may have a little problem over here-
I said as my tail unwrapped itself from the door handle. I liked using it as much as I could. It was handy for situations like this one. I mean. I would have just used my hand as a regular person, but...
As for now, my right arm hung limply at the side of my body. Like the limb of a ragdoll marionette whose string had been cut off. I couldn’t move it much, and it hurt. But that was to be expected. Dislocating a shoulder usually hurts, after all.
Under normal circumstances, I would have just affixed it myself. But since I had a fully operational infirmary at my disposal. I believed it was probably a better idea to leave someone with actual professional training to deal with the issue.
It wasn’t the first time I had gotten my arm out of its proper place. And probably wouldn’t be my last. I knew that it was said that people used to high-intensity exercise with weights get looser joints after some years. So I didn't think it would be anything serious. But better safe than sorry.
-I was training to see how much aura I needed to deadlift 250k. Turns out. It was more than what I was expecting. I believed I would be able to hold it for at least six seconds, but my aura broke at the fifth. Everything pulled down, and here I am-
I called out as I made my way into the infirmary. Drinking a small can of soda with my free hand as I inspected my surroundings.
All in all, it was pretty average stuff you would expect. At least as far as I could tell. And apparently, the doctor was not here at the moment, but on the corner of my eye, I could see that Opal... Person. Hanging around. I knew they were a doctor. Or training to be one. So I approached with a friendly smile.
-Yo, Machias! How is it going? Do you think you could give me a... Hand over here?- I said with a wink, pointing and making finger guns at my still very much dislocated shoulder.
If there was an empty seat nearby, I would go over there and flop my ass on it. The injury, as creepy as it looked. Didn’t bother me so much as the fact that I was tired as fuck. I got it at the last legs of my morning training, so it was a relief to find a place where to lay down for a second until my vision got a little clearer and my head stopped spinning for a sec.
Slowly sipping on my sugary drink, I waited till the young medic finished up whatever he was occupied with before nodding in his direction and presenting the limb for him to check out. A fair amount of bruises and cuts lidded the surface of my arm. But those were par for the course of my training. Not really a product of the injury per se. So they could be ignored.
-So...- I began, wanting to make some small talk, to break the silence. I didn’t have many relevant topics to bring out, sadly. As I knew jack shit about Opal. But I guess it was as good a time as any to start changing that.
-You are doing like... an internship with Harigatanai here? Is she taking you as an apprentice or something? Being like a nurse boy for now, or more like a full-fledged doctor?-
I asked with genuine interest. My father had been a nurse. So I had a lot of respect for the profession, but if Oppal’s ambitions were more of becoming a doctor, that was also pretty neat all in all.
Also... Uh... I didn’t know if I had fucked up by calling him a boy or not. The whole issue was pretty confusing, and I couldn’t be sure who was actually taking it seriously and who was just messing with the young medical apprentice.
Welp. I wanted to know more about Opal. So that was as good as any place to start.
-Or... Nurse girl? Sorry, I’m not sure where the meme stops and where reality starts... You go for a boy or a girl? Opal?-

Unlike many in the academy, Opal was a morning person who didn’t have much trouble starting the day. Not like that stop him from enjoying a hot cup of joe, and thankfully he had learned that Harigatanai bought the good stuff for her coffee maker. Well, as good as instant coffee could get, as he had already down his first cup from the café. So, he was enjoying to quiet of the morning, with a fresh cup and a book he meant to read for a while now. Thankfully, most of his fellow students took the morning for either class or sleeping in, which meant he had the place to himself most days, when he wasn’t in class himself, of course.
However, it seemed today he wasn’t so lucky as he heard the door open as someone enters the infirmary. No rest for the wicked, he sighs as he founds a stopping place in his book. The person hasn’t busted in, so it wasn’t an emergency. Those tend to have a lot more yelling and blood with them. He paused for a moment as he recognizes Bianca's voice. He could tell by that lackadaisical tone of her which made him wonder what happen. She tended to be one of the smarter of the upperclassmen, at least in his opinion.
At least until he listens a bit more to her exposition, which sounded almost comical. That was until he turned to see her arm hanging limply while doing finger guns. “…Why are you like this?” He asked before shaking his head. “Go lay down over there.” He pointed before turning back to grab his coffee cup and closing his book. Slowly he stood before making his way over to the lizard girl. From her hints, he guesses it was a dislocated shoulder, which wasn’t a hard fix. Honestly, he was a bit surprised she didn’t fix it herself. Sure, it hurt like hell even with aura, but still.
Oh well, it wasn’t like he minds, really. As she presented the limb, he took the time to look over, to double-check that there wasn’t anything else wrong. Pausing to look back at her at the question, he nodded before pausing and shrugging. “Yeah, something like that. Wouldn’t really call it an internship. I did the same thing back at Sanctum and it always better to get firsthand experience. And I have had no shortage of that since him here. That for sure.” He gave a sort of a pain laugh as he sat his cup down on a nearby table.
Softy, he ran his finger over her shoulder, checking which way he would need to work it as he spoke. “But yeah, I will be going for my full license after the academy.” He was already dreading the work but thankful for the groundwork he already set for himself for that part of his life. And then it happens. There was the androgynous talk again causing him to stand with a deep sigh. Did he really look that much like a girl? Rubbing a hand down his face Opal only shook his head. “The meme had never stop it seems.”
“No, I’m a guy. I never thought it would spread this badly…” Already knowing it was pointless to try and change everyone's mind. Most didn’t bring it up either not knowing or caring. The ones who did he wasn’t even sure it was to tease him, or if they really did think he was a girl. Or maybe identify as one. Either way it was just getting to the point he didn’t care to deal with it anymore.
Letting out a breath he didn’t realize he was hold smiled at Bianca as he shrugs. “So, tell me. Do I that much like a girl?” He asked before getting back to work placing a hand on Bianca's shoulder. “Anyways, I’m going to numb your shoulder then pop it back on three okays?” As he spoke a cold sensation creeps up and down the lizard arm and shoulder as Opal's hand turns ice cold.
Give that she was a lizard faunus, he pulled back on how aura he would normally use to account for his cold-blooded nature. The cold would be just enough to dull the pain but not fully kill it since most people didn’t enjoy frostbite on their limbs. “Ready? Annnnnd three!” As he unceremoniously popped her arm up and back, snapping the shoulder right back into place. With grin Opal got back up while picking his cup up before taking a slip. “Like a band-aid. How is it feeling? Any discomfort? Well, besides that countdown I mean.” He couldn’t help but chuckle a bit as the countdown trick was something every doctor use at some point.

-Opal. I ask myself the same thing every day of my life- I called out nonchalantly about why was I like this. Truly a question for the ages, one maybe even the gods wouldn't be able to answer. -And yes. You do look like a girl- I answered automatically, no use in beating around the bush with this one. He did look like a girl, and there was no reason in denying that.
-It’s even a little weird to me... Like, my brain thinks that objectively you are kinda cute. But there is something that's just not right. It's like... How do you call the sensation...?-
I was left wondering on the right term for a couple seconds. Opal was close enough to a girl that I, in theory, should feel even slightly attracted to him. But the spark simply wasn’t there. Something was amiss...
Nevertheless. Even as I was lost in thought. I gave a wordless nod when he said he was going to numb my arm. I half expected it would be with the use of some sort of drug or anesthetic. But instead, he surprised me by using a layer of his handy ice semblance instead.
I was about to comment on it when the right term came to mind at least.
-Ah! Yes, uncanny valley! I think it’s something like that! I can appreciate your aesthetic beauty, but it doesn't go beyond that-
I managed to blurt the concept just as Opal was done using his semblance to apply a veil of ice all over my shoulder. It felt predictably cold and tickled a little. But besides that, it was nothing all too unpleasant.
All in all. I was pretty relaxed when Opal fixed my shoulder. Which probably went better thanks to how unexpected it was. I felt the bone suddenly setting back in place and reacted by merely closing my eyes for a second and sucking a gasp of air through my teeth.
-You didn’t count to three...- I still complained, giving him a death glare but dismissing it with a chuckle after the deal was done.
Sitting on the bed, I began to check how my arm was. Making wide motions and opening and closing my hand and each finger to see if everything had connected rightly.
-It seems mostly fine. The tendons are okay, some muscles hurt a little but that’s to be expected. I don’t have the full range of movement though... I must be around 90% or so. But I think that should return sooner rather than later thanks to aura healing. Right?-
I asked the doctor for his professional opinion as I extended my arms as high as I could, being mostly clear that one hand reached one or two centimeters higher than the other.
-I probably should leave the shoulder rest for a couple days... But at least I could use the training in case someday I get an arm chopped off-
I said while winking in Opal’s direction. Half-joking and half-serious in my intentions... I really hoped he didn’t order a total break from working out, though. I couldn’t really afford something like that right now.
Breathing a heavy sight. I poked at the site of the injury and felt a sting of pain. The shoulder was already starting to bruise from the trauma. But it was fine, it was a good pain. And someone told me that growing up and becoming better always hurt.
So I didn’t mind something like this. Most days my whole body hurt anyways, and I wanted to believe I was becoming stronger from it, even if just a little.
Besides, if someone deserved the pain, it was surely me. So I was happy since I knew I was saving some other poor bastard from having to experience it.
Still. I had a slight worry on the back of my head. And since I was with a doctor already, I didn’t have anything to lose from asking about it. -Hey... Uhh... You know. I’ve heard that you can only dislocate your shoulder so many times before it starts being dangerous. Is there any truth to this?-
If there was. Then I may need to find a way to either avoid more injuries or to limit the negative effects they had on my body... Somehow.
But enough of that. Opal had said something really interesting a few moments before, about how he was surely a man. And how the whole thing about calling him a chick was apparently just a big meme that got out of hand somehow...
-By the way... Sorry for calling you a girl earlier, I guess. I’ll make sure to get it right from now on- I sheepishly admitted. Going to rub the back of my head for a moment when the familiar sting of pain reminded me that doing so with my shoulder in that state was probably not a good idea.
Cringing. I turned back to the boy, I needed to make do for all the times I had referred to him as a girl and likely feed more fuel to the meme... So there was only one thing a rational person could do in a situation like this...
-We need to correct that! There has to be something we can do to make people see you as more manly... Have you tough of growing a beard? Or to do... Whatever dudes do to make themselves more manly, or something-
I asked. Trying to dissimulate my uncertainty. I was a girl, who liked other girls. So male rituals of grooming and expressions of manliness weren’t exactly my field of expertise... But it couldn’t be that different, right?
- I dunno... Pull out your dick and slap it against the cafeteria tables to show them who’s the boss?- I said with as serious a face as I could muster. Snorting shortly later and waving my hand in a sign of dismissal.
-I'm just joking... Don’t worry... I still could help you, though! I’m sure we can figure out something. When does your turn end?-
Now I was openly excited about the prospect. Lightly fist-bumping Opal in the chest as I grinned at him. Sparks in my eyes and gears already turning in my brain in search of possible solutions for his problem.

Fighting back a smile Opal skillfully hide behind his coffee mug as he was hit with a death glare pretending to find something remarkably interesting on the wall next to them. “Did I say I would count down? Hmm….” Taking another drink of the mug. It felt nice to mess around since most people didn’t partially like it when the person treating them had a sense of humor. Funny since laughter was supposedly the best medicine. Nodding his head, he turned to walk toward a cabinet as he listens to his lizzy friend. Uncanny valley was a good choice for this. It wasn’t a secret that Bianca prefers girls and his looks would put it to the test, if what everyone said was true.
Honestly, he never felt it. Sure, he has been called cute before never been mistaken for a girl until coming here. To be fair his hair wasn’t as long when he joined Sanctum so maybe that was it. His short statue sure as hell didn’t help much. Shaking his head to rid himself of the thought he began digging through the cabinet. “85 more likely. You be surprised how much damage that does to the muscles and blood vessel in there.” He said pausing afterward to sigh at another one of her dark jokes.
“Yeah. Aura should have you out and recking yourself within the week. Honestly should be thankful. Since without its anywhere from three months to a year sometime. Give or take the person. Here!” Lightly tossing a dull blue sling to her good arm as he slowly walked back. “Should help hold it still till the pain goes away." It almost felt like cheating sometimes when it came to dealing with people with auras. The healing property was honestly amazing making a lot of his work just making sure they rested the time they needed.
Snapping out of his thoughts Opals paused crossing his arms over his chest taking a thinking pose picking the right words about her shoulder. “Ah yes, that. Well, it’s a yes and no. Truth be told it more likely to happen again to younger people since our body is still more flexible than solid when we’ll older. But the aura changes this greatly since everyone's aura isn’t the same. The short of it is that the aura will fix it so that at the very least it isn’t weaker than it already was. IF…” Rising a finger and wagging it at Bianca's face. “You let it heal fully!"
Now that the business part was over and done with, he made his way over to the desk at the end of the room to write up a report of the visit. The bane of any job, but he put it off as Bianca apologize about calling him a girl. He wanted to wave it off and tell her not to worry about it, but it seemed she had other plans. Quickly going on about how they could make him be more manly and fix all the rumors. Honestly, he couldn’t tell if he wanted to laugh or sigh at this. Either way, he was happy she cared enough to try, and it seemed she was really set on this, tossing out ideas after idea. Even a few obscene ones.
He couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow recrossing his arms. “I suppose shaming the others would help. Size does matter a lot to guys our age.” However, he was unable to hold his seriousness breaking into a laugh and shaking his head. “As for beards, I’m one of the cursed baby face guys. Saves me the trouble of shaving I guess.” He wanted to tell her it was all good and that she didn’t have to do this, but seeing the spark in her eyes told him that the odds of her listening to him was about as low as him hitting another growth spurt. Already regretting what this might intel he only smiled and sighed. “Fine. I’m free now actually. It’s a free day for me. So… What’s the plan?”

-Thanks, doc- I said while catching the sling. Gingerly placing my injured arm on it and passing the strap behind my head as it was intended to. A few seconds before, I heard him sigh at something, I didn’t know what it was. But I figured out it wasn’t important.
It was also nice to know that thanks to my aura the wound would be healed pretty soon. Having to wait months for it sounded like a nightmare, I would go absolutely insane if I had to wait that long to go back to training again.
-Understood. Sir. Opal, Sir- I mock saluted with my free arm, eyes squinted closed for a second to drive the point home with a little humor. -I'm not using this arm until it’s fully healed. Gotcha-
Welp. At the very least I could try improving my footwork, doing squats, kicks, and the like. It wasn’t as if I had suddenly become worthless just because I couldn’t use an arm. Nasrin managed to train effectively enough and her injury was more of the... Permanent kind, to put it into soft terms.
I was reflecting on what to do for a new training routine when Opal uncharacteristically cracked a joke about the whole situation with his, huh... Manhood. It was a nice change of pace, I didn’t know the boy very well, but he always seemed the serious type to me, so I was glad to learn a little more about his fun side.
Snickering at his comment. I took advantage of a moment when he wasn’t looking to slip my tail between my legs so it came from behind and emerged in front of me at a more than interesting angle.
-I can imagine. However, got ya beaten there...- I called out as I waited for him to turn around and take a proper look at my juvenile charade. -…You are right. Why am I like this?- I wondered out loud, laughing at my own stupid joke and subsequently waving it off when the conversation turned more serious.
Apparently, he had trouble growing a beard, so that left the most obvious solution out off the tables. But he seemed to humor me in my quest for making him look more manly or to die trying. So now I was facing a new problem... How exactly did you make someone more manly? Was it something that can even be measured? Was there like a council of men that took care of that?
Humming to myself in thought. I grabbed my scroll as best as I could with the help of the aforementioned tail and tipped the following question in the search engine: “How can I make my friend more manly?”
The responses were... Interesting to say the least. Most of them being either clear parody and exaggeration, and a good chunk of it being self-help bullshit like telling a person the best way to be manly was being himself or something like that... I mean, that was probably right, but it wouldn’t prevent Opal from being confused for a girl.
Well, worst case scenario we will have a good laugh. I picked the first suggestion and tried rolling with it. -Okay, first... You need to sit like this...- I called out, gaze still fixated on the scroll as I spread my legs to my sides as much as possible, taking all as much space as I could on the hospital bed. Urging Opal with my gaze to do the same.
-Wait... Hold on, it says here that some people hate that... Yet some are defending it? Weird... Welp. Not dipping my toes on that one then... There must be some other ways...- And there were... Most of them were bullshit, so in the end, I decided to go with my gut feeling and see what happened.
-This is useless... Maybe we could try getting you into clothes that accentuate your body? That way it would be harder for people to take you for a girl. Maybe stuff like tank tops and tight shirts... Ohh. We could go shopping!-
I wasn’t used to that because I was poor as shit and Berwyn made some clothes for me every now and then, but Opal had some money to his name as far as I could tell. So it was a valid strategy! We could get him into a nice, casual outfit or a clean, smart getup... Or whatever the hell men liked to use anyway!
But I wasn’t done with that... Oh no, far from it.
-And then... To put it to the test!-
Grinning, a devious idea started growing in my brain. Yes, gossip ran like wildfire in a place like this, so if we wanted Opal to be recognized as a man... He had to prove his manhood in the most basic, and literal of ways!
-What about getting you a girl? Anyone you fancy, my dude? And don't gimme that crap of there being no one you are interested in... There is a couple of free girls going around, Theia, Chloro, Nina... Come on, don’t tell me you don’t like Slate at the very least...-
Then again, maybe he didn’t swing that way. But it was fine nonetheless. I wasn’t up to date with the relationship status of every student, but there must have been some of them free who fancied mister Opal.
-Or if you are more into boys, I think that guy Flynt is free, so does that beefy boy Asterion. If not, there are plenty of nobodies within class Blue for you to pick. Or we could go to a club as well...-
I left the idea in the air for him to pick up. This was getting more exciting than I had originally suspected. I was going to make a man out of Opal even if it did cost my life, pride, and remaining mental health! And it had nothing to do with the fact that I was having fun right now! Nope! Not at all!

He was happy to hear she would be taking the injury seriously and not try to push it. Sure, aura made people almost superhuman, but it still had its limits just like everything else in the world. He rather she really did rest it longer than his recommendation but knew just how hardheaded some of his fellow trainees could be somethings. He was happy he been around her enough time to get somewhat a read on her personally otherwise he might have taken most of her jokes as her just being some asshole. Instead, he just shook her head with a smile at her mock salute. “Well, as long as you know.”
It was refreshing to get people in who would listen to him when told how to recover. It wasn’t like he had been studying this stuff for the past few years of his life or anything. Still, some people thought they knew what was best for their body and almost always ended back in here after a few days, most time worst for wares. He thought about this as he turned back to pick back up his now nearly empty mug only to turn back to Bianca’s tail resting between her legs. He was happy he hadn’t taken a drink yet otherwise he pretty sure this would have been one of those spits take moments.
Instead, he was thankfully able to hold it together long enough to give her a deadpan look to recover from the umm odd sight. “Why indeed…” He teased shaking his head before walking over and grabbing a nearby rolling chair. Joke aside it seemed she was serious about this whole manly talk as she drove face-first into her scroll looking lord knows what.
With an amused smile, he just sat and watched for a bit as his lizard friend drive deeper oddity that is the guy's way of life. Sure, being a guy wasn’t as complicated as girls had it, but it was weird if not weirder than theirs. With most actions of people, most of the time just boiling down to lack of confidence of overcompensation most time. Now he wasn’t innocent of these things either but liked to think he was a bit more self-aware. At least some of the times.
In the end, he could only laugh as it seemed she was having a hard time of it. “Yeah, wouldn’t look too deep in the “How to act like a man” stuff.” Said making the quotes symbol with his fingers. “Everyone thinks they have the right way and most of them come down to be something close to; Be an asshole. Girls like the bad guy.” He just shrugs as he leans back to setter into the chair. Well, to be fair it had more to do with having confidence than being deuce, but that was a very thin line to walk.
Their talk soon led to something he really didn’t have much experience in. Fashion. Sure, he dressed nice when went out, but it was hardly named brand stuff. Instead, he based it more on just being comfy and movement than being caught up with the tends. He left that sort of stuff to his sister. Hey, that was a very guy-like thing to do, right? “That… might work, I guess. Can’t say I dress very girly, to begin with. Thought I always dressed normally, but clearly, I been wrong about that.” Waving a hand up in a dismissing manner.
He did pause for a moment as he reached up pulling a strand of his long blue hair over his shoulder to look at it. “I guess if this really does become a problem, I could always cut my hair…” It wasn’t like he was all that attached to it. Well, maybe a little bit. He mostly just didn’t bother with it during the past four years during training and just kind of got used to it. He could however see how from behind he could maybe pass as a girl.
However, he snapped out of his thoughts as his friend brought up the test. Ah, he should have guessed it would come to this sooner or later. Talking about girls was something that would always come up sooner or later when guys got together. Sure, Bianca was a girl too, but it felt more like talking to the guys back at combat school, something he didn’t really think he would miss all that much until it was gone. Pausing he glanced at his lizard friend. “Really hope you’re not one of the BL fans. We’ll playing on the same team, so I’ll pass on the guys.” He thought about committing on labeling others as nobodies, but when he really thought about it, he really couldn’t think of anyone from the class Blue name. Weird. More importantly, he was faced with a new question of it there was a girl he was into. There really wasn’t a chill mode to this girl was there?
Not that he minds while leaning back in his chair while bring his foot up to rest on his knee while thinking. He really hasn’t put much thought into it really since coming to the main academy. Well, the dating side of things. Sure, he knew of the hotties of the academy since it seemed like the ratio of male to female was leaning a lot more toward the girls than guys. “Really putting me on the spot here…” Said putting an elbow on the chair arm to hold his chin up while tapping a finger.
“Well, Theia is without a doubt a beauty, but feel like that like punching up in your weight class, you know? Think she a bit out of my league. As for Nina, I like her. She helped me with some training in the past. She cute in a weird sort of way, I guess. Chloro…” He paused remembering the misunderstanding at the pub and was sort of thankful the no rumor got back about that. When his Aunt had thought he had brought his “girlfriend” to eat there. “She cools, if not a little worrisome. Trying to get her to stop solo Grimm’s hunting has been a task in of itself.” He said while trying to dodge the question of what he thought of her romantically.
Quickly changing the subject with a laugh while shaking his head. “Come on, who doesn’t like Slate, but come on think about it. She got like what? 10? 15cm on me. She would destroy me.” Laughing as he let the statement speak for itself. “Then again maybe that wouldn’t be so bad.” Joking before waving his hand. “Hard to really say, Bianca. Base on looks there no end of girls here I wouldn’t mind dating but guess I haven’t really put much thought into it. Been too busy with stuff.” While he had become used to the sort of workload, he had set for himself, maybe it was best if he did find some time for other stuff.
He did stop and think about some girls he had seen/met outside of the academy during the past few months. Namely, the one he saved during the toy attack with the pink hair. He had spotted her a few times since at some bar with some other cute girls but never said much. He had always been with others at the time and honestly, it just felt like an odd thing to do or say since he didn’t really interact much since it was a bit crazy at the time.

-Pff. You are training to be a huntsman! That’s gotta count towards it, right? It’s like the definition of being a bad guy! An exciting life, superhuman powers, the body of a top athlete. All of that!-
I dismissively called out, wanting to encourage Opal a little, a part of me was surprised that he wasn’t drowning in girls already. Plus, he was generally a legitimately nice person to be around, and many chicks were also attracted to that... Maybe he lacked confidence?
That line of thought was promptly severed when he decided to get all blasphemous on me, speaking about cutting that magnificent hair or some bullshit like that! No sir, that would not do, not while I was around at least.
-No! Don’t even think about it! Your hair is beautiful, Opal. It’s almost like...- I was about to say it was almost like what a princess's hair... But that was probably not something that would encourage Opal to keep it long. Damnit, Opal! You really are more pretty than most girls! Come one, dude!
-...Like, have you seen those commercials? With the shirtless guys with their long hair flowing in a wind that seems to come out of nowhere? Well, like that. I would never forgive myself if I made you cut it-
I honestly didn’t understand why did guys like their hair short, having it long was so much cooler! There’s so much personality in how you can have your hair! But if It's short It's just... Well, that. Unless you have some weird thing done to it, it’s forgettable as fuck. At least in my opinion.
Then it came to the question about my shipping habits. And I could only snort at his suggestion, it was an interesting theory, but an inaccurate one. I pretty much liked to see people all lovey, happy, and shit like that. I’d be the same if it was a girl wanting to date a boy or another girl.
-Nah, I guess I only like seeing people being together. It’s kinda cute- I revealed without a hint of shame, it was as simple as that in the end.
I listened with unveiled interest as he spoke about the girls around Haven. Looked like mister Opal had already been going around meeting a couple of them. I didn’t fail to notice he had already spent some time around Nina of all people, he was right, she was cute, even if a little weird. But who wasn’t a tad bit strange in Haven anyway?
About Theia... I believed he was selling himself way too short. The Hellebore chick was way more approachable than what her looks or her wealth could suggest. She was generally a nice girl I didn’t see rejecting someone because they were “below her” or something like that. But whatever, no need to push Opal so hard about it.
And then he talked about Chloro, and I couldn’t help but sigh at the news. She had been getting hurt hunting alone it seemed. That stupid girl. I knew it was hypocrisy on my part to complain, after all, I did the same when I joined Haven, still did, to be honest...
But it was fine if it was me. I had the pressure to perform as best as I could because of my deal, so it made sense for me to go and put myself in danger if it meant getting stronger faster. But Chloro didn’t have those kinds of problems to worry herself with. She deserved to take this more calmly and without burning herself up in the process.
-That would be a Chloro thing to do... I like the girl but I worry about her sometimes. She’s wildly independent to a fault, probably because of her upbringing and stuff...-
Looking aside in embarrassment, I realized I hay have said a little too much. I knew Chloro wasn’t nearly as secretive with her past as me. But that didn’t mean I should go running my mouth about it...
-She’s a good girl tho. Maybe too good for her own good, so knock some sense into that hardheaded girl if you end up with her, alright?-
I teased him for a second, wanting to get that line of thought away from my head for a while. Luckily for me, Opal came to my rescue with a far lighter topic regarding our voluptuous classmate, Slate Seraphine.
I smiled and chuckled along, not wanting to mention how my roommate and occasional lover had about 50cm on good old me. But I guess it was different with him being a boy and such, so if he wanted a smaller girl I wouldn’t give him shit for it.
-You are already doing a lot of stuff for us. I like that you are so diligent, but you need to give yourself some time to rest as well. You know how this profession is, gotta make your time count- I said as I got up from the hospital bed and stretching a little, sans the arm, of course.
-Gotta take care of yourself as well doc. So why don’t we meet here again 15 minutes from now? Gotta take a shower real quick and then we can depart- And with that, unless there was something else he wanted to discuss, I was off. Figuring out Opal would also need the time to get himself together.
So I took a bath, changed into a nice, long gray skirt, a polo sweater, and I put a hoodie over it. It was still chill as fuck outside, and my hair was a bitch to dry off. So I needed the extra layer of protection. Once I was done I got to meet Opal again. And sooner rather than later we departed towards the wind district.
-You are going to like this place, it’s cheap, nice enough, and they don’t have problems with serving faunus. I know the woman who regents the store, so we may even get discounts and shit-
I called out excitedly as we walked through the streets of Mistral. It had started snowing a little while before, but it was not nearly as cold as some other times. Probably helped by the fact that it was the middle of the day.
As we walked, the silence stretched uncomfortably from time to time. I really didn’t know a lot about the blue-haired boy. Hell, up to this day I didn’t even know if he was a boy or a girl! So yeah, I didn't have many topics to talk about besides the basic shit. Asking about classes and the like.
-So... Opal. I don’t think I know you very well at all. At least not besides school hours, but we can't interact a lot during those... So, what are you into? Any cool hobbies or things you like to do?-
I asked a little awkwardly as we were crossing a street. I understood that my question probably came out of nowhere, so I decided to put in the extra effort to try and explain myself. It was... A pretty bad habit of mine, to be honest. Wanting to justify everything I did. But at this point, I was not over it yet, so it came out naturally.
-I feel like I’ve been really missing out on properly knowing all of you, that’s in part why I decided to drag you into this, to stop being just a name and a face in the background. Hope you don't mind?-
And with that, I waited for his response, hoping I hadn’t offended him in any way or something. He seemed like a cool guy, and after my last failed attempt with Granado, I was severely lacking in the number of bros I could hang out with.

“Mhmm.” I mused absent-mindedly playing with a strand of hair while listening. I knew she was right of course when it came down to our training and life choice. There weren’t many in this line of work that didn’t stand out, at least physically. It sorts of came with the territory when your operation was all about fighting killer monsters. I myself wasn’t too bad either with more of the lend tone body compare to the more bulkiness of my fellow male counterparts. Something that was popular with some girl it seems, or so I have been told on a few accounts. Not that change anything greatly since showing off has just never been my thing. Maybe that really did come off as a lack of confidence?
Still, it was just the way I was built. I like people sure, but it didn’t mean I really cared if they liked me back. Okay, that wasn’t really true to be fair. At least not in the needy attention hunting scene of the way. I just never really cared about standing out going for more of a chill vibe. Maybe that was the reason so many hyper people keep appearing around me. Some sort of way the universe does to balance itself out perhaps. If that the case it really needs to step off for a few weeks after the past two months.
Bianca's little outburst thankfully pulled me out of my little self-reflection at the moment. It seemed she had quite the reaction to the thought of me cutting my hair. I haven’t really meant it at the time, more like just part of the conversation. Still, I smirk at her recovery of those overly dramatic commercials since I had an idea of what she had really wanted to say. “Riiight. Like Fabio?” Teasing with a mocking smile before shaking my head. “No worry. Other than some trim and thinning I’m not cutting it. It’s about the only thing I got from my mother's side of the family. Sisters got all the feathers.”
After a short chat, it seemed Bianca was ready to put the next part of her plan into action as she got up from the bad. Leaning back into my chair I fought back a sigh as I wanted to let out but held it in the end. I guess taking a day off to relax wouldn’t hurt even if shopping wasn’t very high on my list of fun actives. You try growing up with a sister who had to haggle with everything she could. The many hours and the countless poor souls she left in her wake. A true soul of a tradesman that one. “Okay, okay. You win. I’ll surrender myself to your great wisdom and way to be a man.”
Okay, maybe I was being a bit of an ass with that last bit, but Bianca seemed like the type that would understand the traditional guy way of friendship: You just fuck with each other. “Just be careful of that arm. Don’t forget no rising it over your head or… well you remember why really quick.” And with that I let my lizard friend go do whatever she needed and set to fixing the nurse office for my leave. Not like I had a lot to clean up since she pretty much been my only patient of the day. A slow day for Medicare was a good day after all.
With everything squared away I grabbed my old jacket only now remembering I been meaning to go shopping for a new one anyway. Since my original blue one with fur now made me look more like a Serial Killer than a doctor with the bloodstains. Or at least not a good one. Occupational hazard after all. Pulling on the jacket I made my way toward the meet-up spot while taking out a hair tie I skillfully tied my hair back into a ponytail before flipping it forward over my shoulder. What? I can be sort of fashionable when I want to be. Just not all the time. Way too much damn work.
Anyway, I soon met up with Bianca as we started for, wherever it was we were going. There wasn’t any reason not to trust her so long as you didn’t mind the chance of something embarrassing happening at some point. “Oh? I’ll have to remember the place.” Nodding along with her as she informs me about the store we were heading for. It was a sad thing, but more and more people were getting braver, if I would even dare use that word for it, to stop serving faunus. It wasn’t many thankfully since most people had a brain or were too greedy to cut off half of their customers for the stupid ideas.
Having grown up with faunus sisters I was treated with a unique side of such racism, but thankfully her question help pulled me out of these darker thoughts in our silence. “Hobbies?” I asked intelligently caught a little off guard at it. I haven’t expected there to be questions about my personal life, but then again this wasn’t school hours. God, when was the last time I just went and hung out with people and talked? The more I thought about it more I was starting to realize I might need this more than either of us had thought. “Yeah, I get that. It's something I really should have done already. Bet some think I’m stuck up or something with turning them down so much…”
Just another bad habit I needed to fix at some point. “But right, hobbies and stuff.” Changing the subject back with a bit of energy. “Well, off the top of my head there running. Weird I know, but going for a run around the Wind District with my dog after a long day just sort of Zen me out, ya know?” Saying as I place my hands together in a sort of mock pray before going on. “Guess there also reading, fencing, and cooking…” I stop narrowing my eyes in thought. “Then again those last two are more of a contest with my twin over the years. We get competitive sometimes. Aka I’m the better cook.” Maybe I sounded a bit smug there, but it was true, and Sapphire hated it.

-I don’t know who Fabio is, but yes. That sounds like him- I replied with a smirk as we closed the topic of Opal’s hair. That sentence somehow made sense in my mind, so I would roll with it.
-And of course! Who would know more about being a man than a girl that doesn’t even like guys? Tsk, tsk, tsk- I called out as I went away to prepare. And without further to do, we were ready to go. And Opal was looking pretty fashionable already, so I expected this trip to be a success after all.
I wasn’t really surprised when he mentioned not going out a lot. If being a medical student wasn’t time-consuming enough, just throw huntsman training on top of the pie, and you have the perfect recipe for a workaholic.
But at least he managed to recall some hobbies and pastimes as we walked down the mountain and into the Wind district.
-Wait... Can you have dogs in Haven?- I asked as soon as he mentioned it. That was actually something I didn’t know, or at least I never had seen anyone walking down theirs around campus.
-Do you keep him in your room? Or in some other place? What kind of dog is it?- I shamelessly bombarded him with questions about it. If it hasn’t become clear yet. I liked dogs. So if he had his mutt in Haven, there was a reasonable chance I would have to periodically claim him as a tribute for making Opal a man... I would bring him back, of course...
As for I would achieve such feat... I didn’t know. I guess dressing him in something nice and throw him at girls until he stuck to one? As good an idea as anything.
-Whatever the case, you have a dog, you know how to cook... How the hell you don’t have a girl yet? You are like a fucking prince-charming dude. We’ll get you one in no time- I called out with a hearty laugh as we took a turn towards the street this particular store was located.
It wasn’t cloud district, but all in all, it was a pretty well-maintained street. Clear signs of wear and tear could be seen here and there. But it was actually due to how damaged this area had been during the war. Now, they wanted to leave that behind, so they paid extra attention to keeping things nice and clean.
-As for me. I guess I have my music, but nowadays I don’t play as much as I did in the past...- I said pretty nonchalantly. I wasn’t as bothered by this fact as I could have been. It simply happened with all the shit going on at the same time lately. I preferred to focus on my training... Still, I was planning on picking things up again soon, as long as nothing too wild happened...
-But I like reading too. But mostly novels and useless philosophical bullshit... What about you? Anything you particularly like?- I asked with legit interest. It had been ages since someone recommended me something good to read. So I was going to be very disappointed if Opal only read journals on medicine and the like.
-By the way. You mentioned your sister earlier as well. You two sound pretty close. She’s your twin, right? I know this is a mighty stupid question, but does she look like you? Not trying to go for her, I promise. Just curious- I smiled as I crossed my fingers in front of him. I didn’t know if he was the territorial kind of brother, but it could be fun if he was.
Just in time for me to hear his answer, we entered the shop. It was a middle-sized store, urban-themed but still more classy than what you otherwise get. With a couple displays here and there showcasing plenty of winter clothes in this time of the year. Besides the usual t-shirts, hats, and more jean pants than you could shake a stick at.
-Celeste! I require your services! Bring me something that would make every girl’s panties in a 100-meter radius fall to the ground simultaneously!- I yelled as soon as I heard the door close behind us, and soon enough, that particular person appeared from behind a counter.
The woman was in her late 20’s. But the heavy bags under her bespectacled eyes and a couple wrinkles in her face made her look a bit older. She gave me a look of disbelief at first. But still made an effort to smile as soon as she saw me bringing in a potential client for her.
-So. Your usual request... Alright, and for your friend? I’m sure we can get dress her up nicely...-
-No, no, no. It’s not for me... And... Huh... We need something from the men’s section...-
At this, the woman looked Opal up and down for a second. Before shrugging and taking a sip from a nearby coffee mug. Fixing a stray lock of her mint-colored hair before continuing.
-Welp. My brother is not here, but feel free to try whatever you like. Bianca doesn’t come here nearly as much as she should-
-I don’t shit gold. You swindler- I Idly called out, already distracted by a couple skirts in a nearby display before reminding myself that I was here for Opal this time. Such a shame. She always has great prices for faunus...
Welp. I had Berwyn to make clothes for me now. But every now and then, I could afford to get something from there as well. Try and keep in contact with the few good people I knew in this city...
-Go fuck yourself- She nevertheless said to me without any malice in her voice. Before turning back to Opal. -So yeah, don’t worry about prices for the moment, find something you like, feel free to try it out, and we can talk about money later. Just enjoy yourself for now-

I paused for a moment at the sudden question a little confused. Dogs in Haven? Only to realize what she meant a moment later. “I don’t know actually. Don’t really stay in the dorms.” Saying a bit embarrass rubbing the back of my neck. Despite there being more than enough rooms in the academy I had in the end chose to live off the academy since the limited number of students had kelp them from assigning prominent teams. “My family home is just a thirty- or forty-minute run away. Seemed easier at the time to just commute.” That and it was a lot easier than moving all the study material over to the dorms.
Even now I was a bit reluctant about talking about this since I had learned it sometimes painted me in a rich kid sort light for some. Which was easy for some to come to if they never bother to talk to me. "Rich kid" not living on campus is an easy story to run with. “He a jack Russell and I keep him at home. He a bit of a hand full.” I finish off after her strings for questions. Was she the sort of person who freaks out over dogs? I couldn’t help but laugh at this realization while shaking my head. While also being careful of that sparky in her eyes. Just what was she planning now?
Prince-charming hmm? If someone was watching they could literally watch me slump while walking. That wasn’t the description I was exactly going for, but some of the guys from combat school had tried getting the nickname Prince to stick. Thankfully, it never did and I sure as hell didn’t bring it up now. Bianca didn’t seem like the type to let a nickname slip by. So, I just grumble a bit while trying to wave off her laughter. “Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say, Dr. Hitch.”
Still, it was an enjoyable walk, especially since it didn’t feel like a one-sided conversation with Bianca seemly being as open as myself. “Oh right,” I said looking over. “I think I remember hearing something about you playing, what was it. Valin?” Asking unsure but knew it was one of the classical instruments. “Bit jealous of that honestly. Had the opportunity to learn piano when I was younger but thought the classical was lame.” Shaking my head sadly. Guess it was just something most kids would think at the time especially with how hard you would have to work to learn the skill. Just laughable with how much work I put myself through now.
It also seems his lizard tail friend was a bit of a book nerd, causing me to raise an eyebrow at her from the side. “Philosophical? Wow, didn’t know you were such a nerd.” I teased with a playful smile at her before replying. “Fantasy and sci-fi mostly. Pretty much anything to do with flying and airship just seems to suck me in. Guess it the owl inside of me.” Shrugging before pausing and side-eyeing Bianca.
He had a feeling his sister would come up at some point or another. It usually does when people learn their twins since one of different sex was so rare. “Yeah… more or less. I mean other than some feathers on the side of her head you be excused for mixing us up. Otherwise, it’s not hard to tell us apart.” Said crossing my arms while walking. It was pretty much himself but with hips and breasts. Making him look like the little sister rather than the brother. I wasn’t my sister's keeper so she could do as she liked, but still, it was the big brother's job to look out for her…
My inner brotherly rant came to an end as we finally made it to the store Bianca was talking about. While I had never seen or even heard of the place it looked nice enough. Even some rather nice things on display. However, the no filter Bianca quickly made our presence known in the building. “Really?” I asked begrudgingly while covering my face with a hand while shaking. Just before stifling a groan at being called a girl once again and getting a stare down for a moment.
From the context of the conversation, it was easy to see the two knew each at least to some degree. Still, the lady seems nice enough, at least so long I look like a customer. “Y-Yeah, thanks,” I said absently as I wander over to the men's section. Was it like a virus?! It seems to be spreading more with people thinking I was a girl. I thought as I slowly started to look over everything on display. “At this rate, it might just be easier to just get a dress,” I said jokily while looking at some jackets.

I tilted my head when Opal told me he didn’t live in the dorms. I was just about to ask if he slept in the forest or something stupid like that when he mentioned his house was near Haven.
-Huh... I actually didn’t know you could do that... I was under the impression we were mandated to live in the dorms- I considered while cupping my chin with my hand. You couldn’t really blame me for believing that. As the school was at the top of a fucking mountain, and only rich kids would be able to live moderately close to it.
And even then, the ones I knew avoided it. Kishka was wealthy (even if the Burzanova liked to deny it), and she had a room. Of course, Kishka had the excuse of setting her lovenest with Argent. But Theia was stupidly rich and also had a room.
I mean, it sounded a little inconvenient, having to walk all the way there and back every day. But whatever, to each their own... What I wouldn’t miss was the chance to tease Opal a bit about it.
–Ohh... Then that may actually be a problem!- I said, feigning concern as I crossed my arms and looked pensive at the ground. -If that’s the case... Then where are you going to take the cute girl we are going to get you right now?-
I finally asked aloud with a wicked smile on my face. -Momy! Daddy! Could you get out? I wanna girl a friend home!- I said, making my best imitation of a boyish voice. Finally breaking and cackling away as I waited for Opal’s reaction.
I would have liked to go harder on that, but I still didn’t know Opal that well. I didn’t expect it to react badly to it, but people do be like that sometimes. So I left it at that. I would have time to mess with him more once we were better acquainted.
My smile turned into a more demure one when he started talking about his dog. I wasn’t an expert in breeds, but I knew that kind was one of the smaller ones. Without much fur. Brown and white, cute little things.
-I can imagine it would be some hard work. Always wanted a dog as a kid, but my parents didn’t have space for it, so we never got one- I told Opal. In actuality, you could say I interacted with some dogs the gang members owned... But those were kept as fighting dogs, so not the more receptive to being pet... Poor little things.
Exhaling slowly. I realized I may have been looking a little more crestfallen than what I expected. So I was quick to fix it with a smile as we moved to the next topic. Rolling with Opal’s nickname for me. You gotta own it, after all. -Thank you, my fellow doctor. It is nice to hear recognition from another professional-
When it came to liking and hobbies. I was much more excited. And had to mean in disappointment when I heard Opal had been very close to picking up an instrument but decided against it. And piano of all things! -Aww... We could have been music buddies. Shame... Didn't pick up classical till I was older. Mostly stuck to learning tangos since that’s what my father liked. But got to enjoy classical a little later down the line-
And I remember he quite liked hearing me play, even when it sucked. But probably more when I got better... As I rummaged through memories, I surprised myself at how often this brief conversation was taking me back to the past... Maybe a little more often than what I was comfortable with.
-Huh. I guess you could learn to fly an airship. It may even be valuable in our career... And what do you mean a nerd? Nothing like soul-crushing nihilism in the morning to be hip with the kids!-
Putting a mock face of disbelief, I let Opal briefly talk about his sister... He didn’t seem overly protective of her, so I would leave it at that. A sister is sacred, after all.
Back at the store, I couldn’t help but shake my head at Celeste's strategy...
Don’t worry about prices and just find what you like? Yeah, so Opal will pick something he really wants and avoid looking at the price tag.
Damn, and they say criminals are ruthless. Celeste here was acting pretty much like a drug dealer. Giving you the first taste-free and shanking you for the real deal... Whatever the case, I was sure the price wouldn’t be too exorbitant. This wasn’t that kind of shop after all.
-You can never go wrong with a dress- I idly commented while skipping through jackets and pants for Opal to try. -Here, this one looks good... With this- Leaving the ensemble over a small puff stool. I kept looking for things to offer him. While casually checking a couple nice things for myself... I wasn’t going to buy them... Maybe...
-Try a couple different styles. I assure you I will be your incorruptible judge, jury, and maybe executioner if you chose wrong-
I exclaimed once he got a couple different looks put together. Sitting on the stool, I hoped Opal would humor me so we could have a dressing montage like in movies and stuff.

It would seem my new good lizardy friend never miss her a chance to poke at me when given the opportunity. She found a way to do so with the smallest things was actually starting to impress me, now if only we could find someone else to tease for a time. Honestly, I might have been breaking the rules a bit by not living on the academy grounds. It had only meant to be a temp situation from moving from the combat school back to the City of Mistral. But as a few days turned into a week with no one asking or giving me a room, I just shut my mouth on the subject. As my twin says, it not a crime if you don't get caught. Yeah, it shady as hell, but I think she was just trying to sound edgy. I think...
I gave an overly exaggerated grown without looking up at Bianca as she acted out me bring a girl home. As if I would do that. Not with the wolf(owl) pack waiting there. "Okay, it's official. You are never meeting my sisters! I can only handle one of you jokers at a time." I said with a grunt, but I couldn't help but smile. Weirdly this was relaxing in an odd sort of ways. With how crazy everything had been lately it was nice to get back to something at was normal. Well, sort of normal. "Besides" I started while casually looking over some shirts. "That's what hotels are for, right?" At last, looking over at her with a grin to see her reaction.
Sure I wasn't some playboy with a ton of experience, but I wasn't total clueless either. I was a healthy near twenty-year-old guy after all. I just didn't get out all that much. Yeah, that was it.
Back to the matter at hand I was mostly just wandering around without much of a plan in the store. After all, fashion wasn't really my thing, even if I looked the pretty boy type. I mostly blame the schooling really for my predicament. Almost five years of uniforms being my daily attire tend to have that effect on people. Yep. totally not my laziness and not caring how I dress in front of people. Mhmm!
So I might have been a bit relieved when Bianca offers up a few suggestions even if I was a bit skeptical at first. I was half expecting her to pick out something weird and off the wall or even a dress at first. But it seemed she was serious about this I thought about looking at what she picked out on the puffy stool. With a few things under my own arm, I pause from my examination of the clothing to give her a dubious look as she took a seat. "Really? Didn't know we were in a romcom." I said looking from her expecting face and back to the clothes and then back again.
No, it looks like she was serious about this montage. "Grrr fine!" I caved picking the clothing, being careful not to mix everything up so I could match them inside.
After a few minutes in the changing room, I would begin my one-man show of the day coming out first in one of Bianca's picks. The outfit ranges from simple, but stylish that was comfortable for any occasion. To a bit more fanciable, within the limits of the store, which was surprisingly wide with it range. It was easy to see why Bianca likes this place so much. At first, I was a little put off by the whole idea of dressing up and coming out for something to see. This was honestly a first for me since this wasn't really something you did with the guys and not something I would have thought to ask anyone.
However, it wasn't that bad as most for the handful of time I came out it was at the readiness to receive some sort of teasing from the lizard and try to think of a retort of some sort. Even having a bit of fun with it at one go, but after catching the eyes of some other customers I dropped the act. Or at least dialed it back a bit. With it, all come to the end with a nice winter piece that I put together from between the clothing we both picked out. A nice black skull cap with a matching scarf and jacket. Over a green sweater-like shirt with a pair of bay color pants. No clue what you call those things.
Coming out a pause before giving a little spin just for the show before flipping back some hair for added sass. "So any panties droppers in that little show?" I asked while shaking my head, but smirking at what a day this had turned out to be.

His reply took me by surprise. Not that I didn’t know of or had made use of such respectable institutions... But it was kind of a curveball coming from Opal.
I considered giving him some scandalous answers to that, like mentioning public parks or the bathrooms at Haven... But honestly, the joke had run a little longer than needed, so it would be kind of beating a dead horse. So I simply smiled as I shook my head, no need to try to one-up him at every exchange.
-Well, this doesn’t look like survival horror to me. So I will keep treating this as a rom-com- I called out with a proud smile. Watching the boy go inside of the changing room and waiting with unveiled expectations.
Outfits came and went, and I enjoyed myself clapping and cheering when he came out with something good. Or alternatively, crossing my arms or shaking my head when something wasn’t working out, whether it was something picked by Opal or by me.
I was kind of making a scene, not gonna lie. Especially when my partner came out with a pretty good attire. At one point, I told him to come closer and very deliberately slipped a 10 lien bill on his pocket. Whistling at him before breaking down laughing at my own joke like a moron.
But hey, I was having fun. So I didn’t mind a couple weird looks from the other customers now that Opal had decided to humor me with my weird ideas.
Kinda missed having a male friend to mess around. You got more freedom to make a fool of yourself when there is the implicit knowledge that there is no chance of anything ever happening between you.
Which was kinda refreshing. On its own way. I usually was one to overthink things. But in situations like this, I felt like I could really shut down my brain entirely for a change... And Opal also looked like he needed to get out a little more, so this was a win-win situation!
Soon enough, we had run through all of the outfits. As Opal presented the last ensemble with a little extra showmanship.
Now regarding his question, I had to really think of a good response. So I made a show of looking pensive, cupping my chin with a hand, and walking a couple rounds around Opal until an idea came to mind.
With a neutral expression, I walked towards some stools put at a side of the store. After checking it out for a bit, I got my hands on a pair of panties and swiftly proceeded to drop them on the floor in front of Opal.
-Does that answer your question?- I said, smirking and putting my hands on my hips as I waited for a response... And I received one, although not just from the boy in front of me.
-For fuck’s sake, Bianca! Don’t go throwing merchandise on the floor!- Celeste chastized me from afar, noticing what I was doing immediately.
-Fine, fine...- I called out, picking up the tossed underwear and drawing a small circle in the air with my finger. At this, the attitude of the shopowner seemed to mellow dramatically... Damn you, clothes mercenary.
-Guess I’m buying this one...- Chuckling, I took one look at it... Not really my style, but whatever, I shrugged and carried it towards the counter before coming back to Opal.
-Yeah, that last one rocks. And there were a couple bangers as well- I spend a few moments recalling all the good ones and recommending buying at least a few of them. Whatever the boy chose to pick. Soon enough, we would be at the register paying for all of our purchases.
-So. Opal... I’d say you are ready for a night in the city. What do you say?- I asked him as I leaned on the counter, the night would fall soon, so it was as good a time as ever to start planning an evening of clubbing in the lower districts.
Of course, my arm still hurt a bit from my recent injury. But I had a feeling that alcohol would soon help numb that pain entirely. I didn’t know how medically accurate that assessment was, but I was a grown girl, I could deal with it.
-If you plan on going anywhere, you can leave the rest of the clothes here. Don’t mind looking after those- Celeste said from behind a cup of coffee. Eventually, she would have to close down. But one of us could always swing by here another day and pick up everything. I trusted her to take good care of it.
Smiling at her willingness, I turned towards Opal. Fist clenched in excitement as I wordlessly asked if he would come. If he was too tired, well, I guess we could do it some other day... But if he didn’t back down. Then the game was on. I promised I would make a man out of Opal, and I was not going to back down. I would first die trying!
-Are you up for it? Get something to drink, dance for a bit, see if we can get some cute girl interested in you?- Giving him the good old eyebrow wiggle, I waited for his response.

Shaking his head he got his answer as Bianca picked up and dropped a pair of under ware. Walked right into that one, but he didn't hide the wide grin when she was called out for her joke. Mocking a "shame on you" as he reenter the changing room and after a bit returning redressed and a few stacks of clothing in his arm. Okay, so while he might have been against this idea at the beginning he had to admit it had been fun and found some nice things here. Taking a moment he made two piles of clothing of those he was planning on getting and not, making a few changes here and there as Bianca gave her recommendation.
"Okay, I'll admit it. You was right." He said portending it was a painful thing to say. "And thanks. I know enough not to dress myself up like a fool, but it ends at there." Taking the moment to pick up the keep stack, that had become bigger then he thought. It was only at this moment that cost of it all really hit him. He very much doubt he had enough on him for all this, but he didn't want to put any back. He really did like most of them!
"Well, if huntsmen life doesn't work out for you I suggest fashion advisory. Think you missed you're calling." Said with a smile as he made up his mind. It wouldn't hurt to play the rice kid card ever once in a blue moon, right? Talking as they walk to the front where he place his pile on the check out before laughing as he pulled his wallet out. "A night out? So you really were trying to kidnap me from the start after all!" He teased as he pulled a card out and paid for it all. Everyone were saying he needed to start dressing better after. Still, he didn't like how it felt or look paying for things like this.
Oh well, there was no helping it he thought before he were about to speck, but was interrupted by a ring from his back pocket. "Hold that thought." He said apologetically to the two as he checked his scroll and answer. "Hey, Sis. What's up?... No, I'm out... shopping... with a friend... Yes, I have friends" Frowning as he turned away while shaking his head. "What you want!?... Wait, that was tonight... No, I didn't forget. Just thought it was on another night... No it not the same thing... Yeah, give me a bit... Okay, okay. Bye."
He finally hung up sliding the scroll back in it pocket before turning back to Bianca. "Sorry, but going have to rain check on the clubbing. Seems I might have forgot I had plans. Family business dinner stuff. Looks better when the "twins" at there." Once again giving a apologetically sigh as he held up both hands. Picking up his bag he paused for a moment writing down his number on the receipt and giving it to Bianca. "I know you rather it be a cute girl, but maybe make a exception this one time." Quickly picking up the bags as he look at the time. "Crap, Sappy going bite my head off! Call me sometime and we're hit up the town!" He called back before quickly hurrying out the door and setting off like a rocket.

-Of course. I’m always right- I said, smiling proudly, as I watched Opal coming up with two stacks of clothes. I was glad he seemed to have fun with all of that as well.
I wasn’t going to pretend I didn’t like dressing pretty every now and then. In the post-war years, there wasn’t a lot of anything to cheer up people. But clothing was something that always was there. So I had come to appreciate individuality and stuff like that. Just the little things that make life a bit more colorful...
So I had some experience putting looks together, even if I sometimes was a bit too monochromatic. But Opal didn’t have that problem. Cold colors (Ironically) Looked great on him thanks to that hair of his.
-I had a good guinea pig... I mean, a good model- I said, and I wasn’t lying. Whether Opal knew it or not, some people have that kind of cheat code that makes almost everything looks good on them. And I knew his style was all the rage nowadays.
Which brought us to the next step of my plan!
-Agh! My devious plot has been discovered!- I called out, putting my hands in a defensive position as Opal went to pay for his clothes. Earning me a satisfied look from Celeste, the clerk, who was now probably happy that I decided to bring the Machias boy there.
On my side, I looked forward to having a clubbing buddy or two. Berwyn wasn’t really the type, and Kishka’s relationship with alcohol was... Complicated. So I was not dragging her to drinking holes if I could help it. Better to wait and see if she eventually felt comfortable bringing it up herself.
Which meant Opal was the perfect candidate! He was cool enough (Pun intended) and seemed like a good kid. So I couldn’t wait to get totally smashed with him. No weird things to ruin the mood like mysterious pasts or dark, traumatic events to worry about. Just two pals, having fun on a day off.
Sadly, fate would have it otherwise. So fuck fate. For deciding that having Opal’s sister summon him home at that exact same moment was the next move.
Well. Better take advantage of the fun while it lasts... As soon as I exploited the fact that he was talking with his family. I was about to approach let out the loudest, more raucous moan I had ever mustered into the speaker. When Celeste leaned in and put a hand over my mouth for good measure. As much as she had done with Opal, having me scaring more clients was probably something she aimed to prevent.
Rolling my eyes at her. I let go of the joke as I patiently waited for Opal to finish his call. Chuckling at his apology, I assured him that it was fine. -Well... Nothing we can do about it, I guess. No matter, I had a good time anyway-
Still, I thought the best part of having a twin was having one of them pretend to be you. Couldn’t this Saphire girl just... Take turn interpreting herself an Opal with clever changes of wardrobe or something?
Oh well, I was just being silly. At least I got to know my classmate better, so that was progress in my books.
-A girl’s number... Wait. So you are not a girl?- I called out with mock surprise on my face, getting one last jab at the already retreating Opal.
-Go rock their socks off! Be sure I’m cashing that in some time!- I waved the boy off as he hastily retreated into whatever social obligation he had with his peeps.
Humming to myself, I wondered how I should spend the rest of the night now that Opal was out of commission. Slowly, I turned towards Celeste. -So... Do you wanna go clubbing?-
-I have to work, and you have to take care of that arm- She responded with a deadpan expression as she leaned on the counter and lazily pointed to my arm, still in the sling.
