[attr="class","nikki109"]The bandit threat was ended and the major Grimm were dead, which only left the remnants and some bandits that very arguably didn’t need to be battled at all. There was no practical reason why the glut of Haven trainees along with the scattered other aura unlocked individuals around couldn’t finish the job to a decent level unless they started inventing problems all on their own – starting fires to put out for the glory. [break][break]

Ultimately, though, it wasn’t her problem. It was impossible to say that the Kozaks did nothing, and they’d get paid either way. If someone else wanted to erase the work done and make a tragedy with themselves as the star yet again, then Alina wouldn’t be involved. Some of the bystanders panicked when the car rolled up, but they were so jumpy they panicked at the wind blowing. Again, not her problem. [break][break]

A good chunk of the Kozak armored vehicles were just repurposed beater cars who were upgraded internally but not externally, allowing them to look pretty worthless on the outside and still provide outsized protection for its size with only a moderate increase in weight. Speed was never the issue, frankly, especially in the Ground District where there were many roads that were, in a word, fucking terrible. [break][break]

”In you go.” she’d say as the car pulled up, opening the door for the blonde to get in first. A glance back to verify nothing was going horribly wrong, and Alina got into the backseat of the vehicle next. She let go of the former bandit leader’s hand so getting in would be easier, but quickly grabbed it again once she sat down so that there was the threat of a burst of flame immediately melting off that hand was still present. ”Guard post at the intersection of Green and Indigo.” she’d order the driver, ”Don’t rush, people are jumpy as shit right now. No need to cause alarm or get shot at.” [break][break]

Turning to the blonde, Alina was able to speak way more freely than before on account of the near soundproofing that was done on the Kozak vehicles. Nobody outside would hear, and the driver – like all of those selected as drivers – she’d trust to not say a damn word. She leaned forward in her seat and extended her free left hand and was handed a burlap bag which she promptly placed over the blonde’s head to block her vision of where they were going. The wolf faunus then leaned in close and spoke in a low voice. [break][break]

”Alright, so this is how it’s going to work. We’re going to go to the nicest of three options, and we’ll work our way down if I’m not satisfied with the responses I’m getting. We can begin and end at the nicest option if you’re cooperative, and at the end of this you get to walk because I think you’re interesting. I have no interest in harming anyone who proves themselves to be useful to me, now or in the future – and for now I think you could be both. As long as I still think that, you’ll be given a way out with everything that happened today being water under the bridge. If I’m in a really good mood I might even be willing to pay visits to any of your former subordinates who try to slander your good name and make them recant their delusions about what they may have seen today. People throw others under the bus and say the most outrageous lies to try and get their sentences reduced sometimes, and I understand that.” [break][break]

She didn’t mention what happened at the other two options, but in situations like this she felt like she didn’t need to. The power disparity between them was high enough that anything the blonde could imagine would likely be much worse than the reality, and that imagined terror of what might come if she wasn’t helpful would ideally spur her into becoming extremely helpful once they got to the destination. With any luck, the entire process would be over and done with in a few hours rather than the few days it might take for extremely uncooperative… guests.

Sienna rubbed her temples. It's not like she hadn't dealt with panicking people before, but typically if she was directly helping people without Alina it was because she was pulling people out of something, not trying to herd them into a defensible area. She wouldn't be able to do much on her own anyway, even if the people were in a good spot her fighting skills were mediocre at best. So, if she had to deal with a large crowd like this normally she relied on Alina to show that they could actually help them. But this time, Alina completely trusted the task to her. Trying to figure out what to do when she could barely get anyone to notice her was difficult.

So maybe she was thinking about this the wrong way. She could do rescue operations and often did. For small amounts of people. Typically only small amounts of people because she was either trying to prevent them from being noticed, or using her natural speed and agility to physically carry them out of trouble. It'd be slow as fuck in a situation where they might not have much time, but it was better than standing around.

With a sigh, she started moving towards the edge of the crowd eying the people that were just finding a random place to cower or were just spinning in circles trying to find some place to go. They were at least not moving or shouting, so they were the easiest ones to get to. She did her best to approach from where they could see her and tried to make enough noise that she wouldn't be sneaking up on them, but in such a loud and chaotic environment, even that wasn't perfect. Fortunately, even the remnants of her aura could take a few punches from normal civilians from anyone she startled. From there, she tried to explain that sitting next to a heavy crane that could be used to smack some Grimm away would probably be way more effective than sitting out in the open or next to a brittle tree. Some listened, some wanted to but couldn't feel their legs, others just kept shouting at her. She was more than willing to pull along anyone that didn't actively fight her, but anyone that did got left behind. If she had time, she'd come back for them, but for now, she was just trying to get as many people to safety as she could manage.

It took a little bit of time, but she was given a suitable spot to defend and be the last line incase things went tits up. Taking her time, she made sure her rifle was mounted properly and a round was chambered and ready to be fired at any notice. Once the rifle was set, she laid out the ammunition to check what she has. Four more rounds, and a single Ice shot. Should be good for any trouble that comes their way. Last step, was to take up arms. Going prone, Chloro shouldered the stock into her shoulder and rested her cheek to gaze through the scope and take in the situations building up outside. Admittedly, there wasn't all too much left to deal with. The bandits who brought the menaces had been taken by that weird Kozak chick, and Bianca and a weird four armed girl were dealing with some Lancers just a way off. Chloro continued to scan the surroundings before returning to the Bianca situation, seeing some wounded but standing Ursa begin to take a slow advance to them. With the magnification of the scope in question, she could tell the girls were injuried massively, and couldn't take on the Ursa. Closing her eyes for a moment to focus, this was the time she cannot fuck up. The one time where mistakes were intolerable, and beyond acceptance. Taking a few moments to take deep, long breaths, her eyes opened wide as she honed onto the Ursa and fired. The round would crack loud and ring for a mile, even causing her own hearing to begin ringing. Slamming the chamber open and loading the second round, she fired again with her aim being as true as it could be. The first shot tore off one of the arms and the second shattered it's torso. Slamming the chamber open one last time and loading a third and final round, she fired again as it obliterated the Ursa into shadows and dust, clearing Bianca and Ruqa's escape. She would load her last bullet and keep the rifle trained on the two until they got into the safety distance of the concert. Once inside the area of safety, Chloro would breath a huge sigh of relief as her work finally did something right. She did her job for once, and it gave her a huge sense of satisfaction and contentness. The next few minutes consisted of her packing up and blending back into the crowd, before she eventually went back to work on the lighting and the stage. ♚ Made by SYLVIA of SA and GS ♚

My mind was quickly running out of ideas regarding what to do about the lancers. I didn’t have enough aura for a big area of effect attack, and my senses were too dulled to be very precise with my semblance at all. So I was reduced to swatting bugs (literally)

I thought about burning out the meager remains of my aura in a desperate measure to take as much of them as I could. But that wasn’t much better, it was likely that I wouldn’t take them all out, and the stragglers would pierce from side to side with their stingers.

So I preferred to wait for reinforcements for as long as I could, focusing on projecting my aura to every corner of my body while making myself as much of a hard target as I could.

Fortunately, I didn’t have to do anything reckless, as Ruqa Reyes was nearby and ready to demonstrate why she was the hero of Argus after all. I first noticed the recognizable glow in her mechanic arms, she was activating her semblance not unlike what she had done during our encounter in the Vital festival.

And she went ham. I didn’t know she could be this nimble, I always pegged her for a sturdy, grounded fighter. But it seemed like I was just getting carried away by stereotypes. Whatever the case, the Lancers didn’t stand a chance once she was airborne. The swarm quickly thinned down, either by force fo Ruqa killing the Grimm, or getting them low enough so the stray fire could deal with them.

I tried to get close enough to congratulate her when a sudden spasm in my stomach forced me to stop and throw up again. Ruqa’s comforting words could be heard just a couple meters away from me. I did my best to smile at her joke, while still playfully raising a middle finger in her direction... Before having to take a knee to recover my breath.

Damn... Fuck the Apathy, fuck the heatwave, fuck the apathy again for preventing me from having my aura up for the heatwave. Fuck the manticore poison as well and myself for deciding that going to fight after giving away more than a third of my blood was somehow a good idea.

As I was in the middle of cursing everyone in the world and their grandmas, I heard growling coming from the nearby trees and looked up only to see a gnarly looking Ursa peeking at us with evil intentions on his mind... Oh yeah, I was running this time, and it seemed like Ruqa agreed with my idea.

Getting up as fast as I could, I began what I call a strategic retreat towards the safety of a bunch of angry Haven students who would take care of the Grimm for me until I managed to recuperate enough of a fighting shape to help them.

But even then, the Ursa seemed to be getting awfully close to us... They were not very fast at all, slower than regular bears even, but in my current state I was slowing everyone down.

Gritting my teeth, I was about to suggest Ruqa leaving me here or for us to turn around and fight the Grimm come hell or high water (We didn’t have many more options, to be honest) when a loud shot took me away from that train of thought.

I turned towards the Ursa as its arm was torn off its body, stopping the creature immediately. Before the Grimm could react, a second shot ringed and pierced its body from side to side, making it stagger and stumble before a third one finished it off entirely.

Directing my gaze at the source of the shots, I was both glad and surprised to see Chloro Smoke behind the aptly smoking barrel of a rifle. And to make things better, she was still covering our retreat... To think I had scowled at her decision to continue fighting with her wounds...

Well, I wasn’t about to complain now! That’s for sure! Results speak for themselves and all of that. So I was never so glad to be so full of shit as right there, and I made a mental note to chastise myself for not trusting in Chloro before... Well, I still believed she was reckless sometimes, but that was coming from me, so it should be taken with a grain of salt and irony.

I loudly whistled to get Chloro’s attention, flashing a smile and giving her a thumbs-up after the fact, hoping the mute girl could see me among the commotion. I was really glad she came in clutch to save us. In our current state, even an Ursa could have made a number on us.

Once I was in the safe zone. I turned towards Ruqa, making gestures to let her know I was unable to speak at the moment, before raising my hand for a high-five if she complied. Once that was done, I decided that maybe resting for a while was a good idea.

I went back to the doctor and drank a lot of water, after harassing him to give me some more medicine, I set myself near the crowd to rest and as a last line of defense in case some Grimm managed to slip through.

And I pretty much did this for a while until I was well enough to go for another round. Now feeling way better than before, I grabbed my weapon and checked on my aura. 43%… Not a lot, but not too little either way, good enough to let me fight some Grimm and relief some other students having trouble.

While I was there I even found the unconscious bandit that tried to threaten Ruqa before and decided to drag him back to civilization to chain him down. I pointedly ignored Arthur’s stare at me while I was doing this. He was standing still, but two small Grimm were vaporizing at his feet when I turned to look at him, so it was clear he was doing... Something, I guess. And Arno was near him, although unarmed and probably relying on the other blonde for protection (Besides clearly looking really worse for wear, lidded with wounds all around his body).

Sighing, I threw my bo for him to catch, I wasn’t particularly attached to the gun, so I had no problem picking up a small sword and a dagger from a nearby downed bandit. Grimm were still coming, even if sparsely, so I probably was better off with something that allowed me to chop as many heads as I could, and fast. The night would fall eventually, so we needed to finish up the horde as fast as possible to evacuate the civilians before that happened... It was still winter, after all.

Plenty of bandits and slavers were arrested that day, many more were permanently dealt with on spot by both Haven students and stray Grimm that saw an easy prey in the disorganized criminals. The ones detained were swiftly handed over to the authorities after the fact, and the police would do as much as they could to figure out what had been the motivation of such a barbaric and inhuman attack.

There were no Haven casualties during this ordeal. Even when outnumbered and having to fight Grimm, the difference in power between the weakest trainees and your average bandit was a considerable one, and having the medical teams close by and willing to provide them with all the attention they needed to tend their wounds also did wonders for survivability rates.

Regarding the civilians, some of them sadly perished during the operation. From small packs of Grimm slipping by in either the main construction site or nearby locations, to events as mundane as work-related accidents like the out-of-control crane. Civilians didn’t have an aura nor combat training, neither were they used to the rugged life of the bandits, so deaths were to be expected and acceptable, or at least that seemed to be Mistral’s opinion on the matter.

Families were told the deceased would get a monument in their honor. But they didn’t really care, that wouldn’t bring their loved ones back home. After a time, it became clear the promised monument wouldn’t arrive either.

But not all was lost, on the contrary, some parts of the wall were repaired and reinforced as expected. Some segments were in better shape than others, but all in all, it was an improvement. And many resources were able to be collected in that day and the following ones, which were much more peaceful than the first one.

A handful of politics raised their questioned about the issues that overtook the operation, but that was to be expected no matter what the outcome was. And as much as they barked and pointed fingers, the people at foot focused their fear and rage into the bandits who orchestrated the attack, which was good in its own way.

There was, nevertheless, another problem that couldn’t be ignored... Some people were successfully smuggled out of the city and sold as slaves... And the saddest part was that it would take a long time to even figure out that those people were missing. Not only that, but many unsavory individuals took notice of the general state of affairs and used the confusion to slip undetected into the streets of Mistral.

Most of them were harmless civilians that had been left stranded and wanted to get inside the capital again... But some of them were not, some of them had the worst intentions in the world for entering Mistral city...

Among such a disorganized mass of individuals, who knows who may have managed to infiltrate the city...
