[break][attr="class","nikki102"]BUT IN THE END, IT HAS TO BE THIS WAY
[attr="class","nikki109"]The first of three options, as Alina had called it earlier was honestly not bad at all. She had what amounted into a decent four rooms including the bathroom apartment built into the basement of her main office. It was accessed with a floor access door underneath her desk, and worked out decently well for its purpose. The sack would’ve been tied pretty securely over the woman’s head during the ride, so that it would be impossible for her to see beyond it and retrace her steps at a later point. [break][break]
By the time the sack would have come off, the blonde would have been placed onto a sofa in the middle of the living room slash kitchen of the small apartment. The small kitchen was set up in the top left of the room while the refrigerator would be in the top middle. The bottom middle would have the sofa, and two chairs to the left and right along with a long rectangular table in the center of the sofa and chairs. The lone bathroom would be to the left of the kitchen, and two small bedrooms would be on the right side. There was a door that in a normal apartment would lead outside, but would instead lead to where the stairs would normally be. [break][break]
The stairs to this place were foldable into the wall itself and made hard to see on purpose, to say nothing of the curtains drawn over all four walls in the small and empty room. That being the only way out and the fact the door leading there was locked multiple ways that required a key to open from both sides meant that even getting there without making an ungodly amount of noise was… difficult. Alina didn’t have time to change out of her full kit, so would still be there in the same armored up gear she was wearing in the outskirts, minus a few things to prevent her body being an oven that would waste aura preventing her from being soaked in sweat. [break][break]
A nontransparent and red tinted full-face mask combined with a respirator at the mouth with a combination cartridge and filter to take care of any aerosols, gases, or vapors in addition a communicator inside that was much more protected than previously. The wolf faunus’s hair was also tightly tied together in a bun to fit underneath the helmet so there was one less identifiable feature present, as she did realize that any assassination attempt on her on this mission would be counterproductive. The black motorcycle jacket that she wore as the outer layer on her torso was stripped off and left in the office above, and so was the dark red hoodie that was reinforced with heat resistant materials. The metal cuirass underneath that was also ditched in a brief period of leaving the hostage alone but in the same room, removing a decent amount of bulk. [break][break]
This left the new outer layer a dark gray heat-resistant shirt that helped prevent chafing along with the Kevlar sleeves with thumb holes to provide a little bit more heat and cut protection. On top of those were men’s formal dress gloves made of cotton that served no purpose other than keeping the filth of the outside world off of her skin. [break][break]
Moving down, Kevlar reinforced motorcycle style pants with a nylon regular belt that was absent the duty belt that normally went over it which would normally contain her metal scabbard, holster, and of course the weapons that occupied both of them. She didn’t need her weapons here, so she left it in her office on the way in. Metal shin guards covered the fronts of her legs while leather straps held it in place, and an extra pair of weighted and reinforced dark brown boots with a different tread than usual completed the ensemble. [break][break]
Alina was sitting in a chair to the left of the blonde, leaned back and comfortable. Once she undid the burlap sack and tossed it on the table, she started speaking immediately. ”So, just so we’re clear… your actions today under Mistralian law entitle you to the death penalty most likely several times over, most likely after a stay in the worst type of prison available for an indeterminate amount of time during which they might forget you exist at all. There’s a number of people likely still alive willing to identify and testify against you – it’s unlikely that Haven killed all of them on the way out.” [break][break]
”I’m willing to provide you a safe place to stay until things blow over a bit and a fake identity that will allow you to start over and put this behind you, and also eliminate any threat to that fresh start on your behalf should any ghosts from the past rise up and try to drag you down with them. All I need from you is information that I think you have, and if you don’t then I’ll just make the same offer to whoever else I can wrangle up from the remnants of your group.” [break][break]
The tone was conversational, friendly even. This was not someone who was dipping their toes into threatening people’s lives, but someone who was so comfortable with it they could maintain a veneer of friendliness throughout the entire process. ”The first thing I want to know is how you got the Grimm. You managed to cage a number of Apathy, and furthermore managed to not only attach it to a manticore but also to armor up said manticore. It’s likely that had I not been there the combination would have been enough to kill everyone present. I want to know how you did it, or if you didn’t who gave you the Grimm and how you controlled them and kept them from killing you while transporting them around. How you transported them is another question I’d like answered, while we’re at it.” [break][break]
The former soldier pulled off the white dress gloves on her hands and yanked off the Kevlar sleeves on both arms and tossed them on the table before pulling the gloves back over her hands as she continued to lean back in a very relaxed position on her chair. She had decided to start with this question on purpose, mostly because it would show how much of a hand this woman had in the planning and execution of the attack. If she was an active participant it was likely she’d have other information, but for now Alina wanted to know how it was done. [break][break]
She expected the former bandit to lie, of course, which is why there was a strong consideration of forcing this woman to do a live action demonstration if she claimed to know each step involved in the process. Such knowledge might not be immediately useful, but she wouldn’t deny the power of the Grimm displayed today and its potential usefulness in war in the future.
