TRP is a post-Great War AU RWBY RP set in Mistral City and Haven Academy with no canons, no rank claims, no maidens, and no god interference. We offer a progression system and site-wide events that change the setting based on player actions.
As a tribute to Monty Oum, we're going to follow his naming conventions. Click the link here for the rules. For those of you who think that is limiting, here's a fan google doc with almost 2000 names on it that doesn't even scratch the surface of what is allowed. Only the first or the last name need to follow this rule, not both.
Image size on application 200x350. Profile overlay in profile is 180x380. Avatar is roughly 100x100.
Once your application is completed, be sure to post it up on the submissions thread to get reviewed! The most common reasons for kicking a profile back for edits are the following:
1) Please do not include a traumatic life event only to never engage with it. Consider whether that traumatic life event is actually a part of your character that you will interact with, and if not then don't do it. In the application those traumatic life events cannot be glossed over in a sentence, because pointlessly over the top trauma in the profile when the character is going to be a happy go lucky type does nothing except for make others uncomfortable. Family members don't need to die, you can just not talk to them. Friends don't need to die, they can just move away. If you don't want to ever include any family connections, you can do that without murdering everyone your character ever interacted with.
2) Having obscene amounts of money and the ability to spend it on a whim. You cannot be the CEO of Schnee Dust Company, you're a student in a Huntsman Academy. Parents/family being rich is fine, but your character is not in control of that money and cannot freely access it. You can't be the heir to the Schnee Dust Company at character creation. Building one up IC is interesting and provides for ample thread opportunities, while getting one of the gate is boring and puts outsized authority/IC power onto a new character that may or may not drop off the face of the planet in a week.
3) Please read the Recent Events thread. If you contradict it, your application will be kicked back.
4) Do not put any anticipated future upgrades for abilities or semblances in your application. Future effects get approved when the upgrade is done, not at character creation. Your ability descriptions are what they can do at the time your character is apped, nothing more and nothing less.
5) Extremely weird/complicated semblance that the author has trouble fitting into words that others can understand. Going beyond the 'you must be able to describe your semblance in 1 sentence' rule and moving past the clarity issue to a related one, semblances that do not fit neatly into the system will generally need some tweaking to adjust wording. The general philosophy is to try to incorporate these weird things as much as possible with the understanding that if it becomes an issue down the line that it will be adjusted accordingly.
6) For ranges of abilities, not including the flavor and the approximate range. For example, for E rank the range would be "about the length of a telephone pole (10-12m)." Inserting things like radius in order to try and get double range and other such obfuscations are not allowed.
7) Touch gated semblances that attempt to cheat and use methods other than touching with your physical body for activation will be denied with no exceptions.
8) Application cannot be sent through discord message or private message on site. It needs to be posted as a thread within the character creation board with no exceptions.
9) Applying for a Certified Huntsman position as a fresh application without an accepted canon role request. Each major faction has one 'special' role earned through IC play or a canon role request, and Certified Huntsman is the one for the Council side.
Edit 3/11/19: Please do not edit your application in preview mode. At the bottom of the text box is 'BBCode' and 'Preview'. Preview will mess with the code really hard by inserting junk code every time you make any edits which means your profile will have to be completely redone on upgrade if there's a lot of it -- one case had over 60 instances of redundant code added in by preview. Please edit your profile on BBCode if you edit on ProBoards itself, thanks.
Edit: 10/25/20: Edited character template with Vital questions. Credit to Kayla Ancrum for the original questions posted on her tumblr, adapted to this site.
The Haven Academy specific application template can be found below in the spoiler tags. It is worth noting that we are not currently accepting war criminals, serial killers, or other exceptionally violent criminals when it comes to Haven students. Transferring XP permanently from an existing character to a new one is possible by just substituting the 825 starter XP and starter skills (E semblance and F weapon) with all the XP the previous character had and permanently retiring the character that is being drained of their XP. Transferring XP permanently from an existing character to another existing character who has gained more than 100XP earned total is possible at a conversion rate of 50%, so the existing character to be retired's XP is simply halved and transferred to the existing character that is staying.
Remember that your character starts with the following for the Haven Academy subgroup:
One E ranked semblance
One F ranked weapon
825 experience to be spread among abilities, though no skill can be above D rank with starter experience. Only characters with XP transferred from other characters can start with C rank or above skills at applicant phase. F rank combat ability is 75XP, E rank combat is 275XP.
An additional 300 XP if this is your first character.
Character types that would be particularly helpful for the site as a whole is any character with an education level that extends past the fifth grade. Particularly wanted are combat school graduates. It is worth noting that your character can draw inspiration from any real-world culture and not be out of place within Mistral. In the four major capitals of Remnant, there is a melting pot of cultures and while those differences are noted and there are more Mistralians than Vacuoans in the capital of Mistral it is not unusual for someone from one country to permanently or temporarily settle in another for whatever reason.

Note (Remove when finished with application): Your weapon starts at F rank, and unlike your semblance you can level it up during character creation. The weapon slot only does damage, but you can upgrade it to E rank with only 200XP rather than 275XP because you automatically get an F rank weapon without any XP cost.
[div][attr=class,title]Non-Combat Abilities[/div] Suggestion (Remove when finished with application): Non-Combat abilities are abilities that cannot be used in combat that flesh out your character. Tailoring, carpentry, metalworking, dancing, painting, cooking, etc. They cost half as much as combat abilities, so an F rank non-combat is 38XP and an E rank is 138XP.

[div][attr=class, title]Combat Abilities[/div] Suggestion (Remove when finished with application): F rank combat abilities are 75 each, and E rank combat abilities are 275 each. If you want to be a jack of all trades type of character at the beginning, take a lot of F ranked abilities. If you want to be really good in a few areas but weak in others to start, take one or two E rank combat abilities. To be a skilled and tanky melee fighter, for example, you can take E rank durability and martial arts to raise your damage resistance and melee accuracy. If you want to play a nimble archer you can take speed and marksmanship if you favor positioning or agility and marksmanship if you favor dodging, and if you want to play a glass cannon type melee character you can boost your weapon to E rank and take martial arts to increase your damage and melee accuracy. Each combat skill must provide one mechanical benefit, with no exceptions.

[div][attr=class,title]Vitals[/div] [b]Primary Drive:[/b] This is generally going to be related to the goals/plot of the group your character is joining. What are their plot related goals? How are they working to accomplish that? How do they make decisions? What do they think they're doing and how do they justify doing it?
[b]Fears:[/b] One deep fear like abandonment, loss of family, losing morality, etc. Several smaller fears like spiders, someone licking them, mold in food, just small things that bother them.
[b]Style of Self-Expression:[/b] How do they talk to others? Are they shy or outgoing? Internally, are they confident or anxious and how do they express those feelings externally? Do they care about words more or actions when it comes to the people around them? Does their socioeconomic background affect the way they present themselves socially?
[b]Most Important Thing:[/b] Every person has an exception to their in theory infallible ideals, what is yours? What is something that influences your character regardless of their moral code? What would they reject sacrificing even when driven to the brink, choosing to cut off their own finger rather than sacrifice? What would they kill for, if pushed? A character can believe firmly in every person being equal, but still show preference for a certain person when things come down to the wire. A character can believe in fairness in the moment but still act on a grudge at a critical moment. A character can be cool and collected, but if someone tries to spread misinformation about one specific thing they will lose their mind and fight against it no matter where they are or who they're in front of. (Application note: Please do not keep the example text with paragraphs in these sections. Delete them and insert your answers.)
[div][attr=class, title]History Freeform[/div] Suggestion (Delete when finished with application): Two things NEED to be at least mentioned here in passing, and that's basically how your character passed the practical test which involves a small tournament among that month's applicants to the Huntsman Academy to weed out people before sending them into a Grimm-infested forest to prove their combat skill. The forest will only have [url=https://remnantproject.proboards.com/post/1692]Rank F Grimm inside[/url], which a starter character can do well fairly easily. The personality test basically tracks to weed out the psychopathic and the homicidal, which weeds out the murder as a first resort types. You passed testing to attend and you went through a battery of psychologists to certify that you're not a homicidal maniac. The default assumption for a character is that they are a second year trainee, so adding detail about your first year also fine!
Don't focus on actions. Focus on relationships and emotional bonds between your character and others. If you are a character with starter level experience, you cannot have killed armies or won major battles -- your character is frankly entirely too weak to do that. If you write a bunch of heroic actions in the backstory, it becomes absolutely silly that someone can waste entire bandit tribes in the backstory and fails to do things much less than that when they come into actual play due to the stats not matching what they supposedly accomplished. [/div][/div][div][attr=class,cs-bottom haven][/div][/center]
Below is the Council (General) member group application and guidelines. This encapsulates everyone except Huntsman trainees and Certified Huntsmen. This brings more flexibility due to the lack of IC restrictions on your behavior except when it gets public, but also brings less resources due to the lack of the half decade or more or rigorous training, professional coaching, and massive resources being given to both combat schools and huntsman academies to create the warrior class.
Remember that your character starts with the following for the Council (General) subgroup:
Two E ranked noncombatant abilities
825 experience to be spread among abilities, though no skill can be above D rank with starter experience. Only characters with XP transferred from other characters can start with C rank or above skills at applicant phase. F rank combat ability is 75XP, E rank combat is 275XP.
An additional 300 XP if this is your first character.
