[break][attr="class","nikki101"]WE CAN ALL AGREE THAT VIOLENCE BREEDS VIOLENCE
[break][attr="class","nikki102"]BUT IN THE END, IT HAS TO BE THIS WAY
[attr="class","nikki109"]It wasn’t a secret that the Council was getting antsy about how it looked that they couldn’t quell the rebellion within their midst. It wasn’t a secret that the other countries were starting to wonder if it wasn’t a question of when, but if Mistral had the capability to take out its own trash. The doubt and pressure were expanding, and thus so was internal messaging to people who could do anything about it. [break][break]
At one point the idiots even tried to offer Alina a bribe to go away. It was insultingly low, so of course she took the money and didn’t leave. After that the aristocracy got a little more upset, and started raising the bounty on her head to some truly absurd numbers. What was first a number only high enough for one to not work for a decade rose up rapidly to one that would allow a small group of individuals to live a life of luxury for the rest of their lives. [break][break]
It was only a matter of time before something happened. The Revolutionary League had long exploited the fact that the Council had way more territory than it could feasibly protect, but over time the same had become true of the League. It was only a matter of time before someone with two brain cells to rub together figured that out, and it turned out that they not only figured it out but had the resources to exploit it. [break][break]
Four villages and one town taken in total, each in quick succession while Alina was too far to respond quickly. Messengers were sent out, likely left alive on purpose, to inform her of the capture. The four villages were taken back almost immediately, but that was only because they were empty. All the supplies were gone, and all the people save for a few of the elderly and infirm in each location were gone. [break][break]
Gone to Dymytrov, the larger town in the middle of these villages which had industrial capability along with a smaller dust mine that Alina had thought was sufficiently hidden that the Council was unaware. Apparently, she had been wrong, and cleaning up this mess would be the result of that mistake. The stories from the four villages was similar and the same amount of useful – a lightning attack in the middle of the night where the security forces were rendered useless due to overwhelming force. [break][break]
The enemies had semblances, and they were strong enough to take four villages almost simultaneously. That meant that they had a number of individuals with strong ones, and likely some helpers besides. This was a professional operation, and the fact that the town of Dymytrov had access to the sea meant that they also had an escape route in case things went badly. If they were smart enough to draw her out like this, they were also probably smart enough to get an underwater vehicle so that her fire couldn’t simply melt the escape vessel. [break][break]
They also left a message that basically stated that if Alina didn’t come alone to the front gate within a week of the letter issuance, alone, that the combined population of the area would be killed along with the dust mines and factories within the town detonated into uselessness. It was pretty obvious what they were going for at that point, and frankly it was likely that they’d even succeed. They knew everything about Alina and her own combat capabilities at this point almost without a doubt, and she knew nothing of theirs. She’d have to find out on the fly, alone, against an unknown number of opponents strong enough to take out four villages simultaneously that had defensive nests and machine guns guarding the gates. [break][break]
Alina didn’t have enough time for a real plan, especially since it took nearly a week for them to get to the scene of the attacks in the first place. She had her troops stationed in each of the four villages to cut off land escape routes, waiting for the signal to go. The wolf faunus herself would be at the front gate, as requested, buying time. If the bounty hunters underestimated her and didn’t send enough resources, she would simply kill everyone present when given the opportunity. This mistake had already been done before, though, so the much more likely scenario was that the enemy would have most of its firepower focused directly on her. [break][break]
Because they had chosen a town to attack that had ocean access, it was extremely likely that they had sea vessels prepped and ready to go. Several would likely be patrolling around the area, ready to destroy any seacraft that might try to approach. There might even be some underwater vessels running around to catch any swimmers. While Alina was at the front gate, it would be everyone else’s job to infiltrate into the city while the main force was distracted and do what they could to divert attention. [break][break]
The crux of the issue was that Alina couldn’t go all out for fear of killing all the civilians in unknown locations throughout the city. If the civilians were rescued, then Alina could simply incinerate the town and everything in it and then rebuild it later. If enough of the enemy forces were diverted, Alina could win the conflict at the gates without resorting to those measures and move in to pincer attack the remainder. She considered the factories and dust mines lost causes not worth going after, because even if they were collapsed they could be excavated and rebuilt. [break][break]
The objectives here were to get the civilians to safety and then deprive the Council of an elite strike team. A few factories and a dust mine were nothing compared to eliminating multiple individuals with strong semblances from the side of the enemy. The plan, of course, only worked if Alina could survive the onslaught planned specifically to kill or capture her – let’s be real, kill her. [break][break]
Nina had agreed to help, and Alina had offered her an unconditional favor in return that would likely have to do with Grimm research down the line. This meant that the infiltration team had a way in, as oxygen tanks were able to be scrapped together fairly quickly. They would go in at a safe distance ahead of time, and Alina would buy them the time they needed should they successfully evade the guards and enemy seacraft no doubt posted around the town. [break][break]
And so, it would be. Alina would just have to trust that her people would either get the job done or escape, and focus entirely on buying them enough time to be relevant. They’d be able to recognize Alina coming from a mile away, quite literally, given the distinctive armor she had taken to wearing. Metal armor shined so brightly that it looked white, reflecting the sun as she walked to make her the most visible person on the field. White fur lined a white cloak made of special heat and impact resistant material in order to be used as a makeshift shield or barrier. Chest armor protected front, back, and side and was compact enough to not raise her profile overly much. For the legs, she had both the typical greaves and cuisse on her legs themselves but also what amounted to a mix of armor and heat resistant fabric similar to the pteruges type of armor that hung loosely like a longer skirt. They didn’t attach too heavily so that a stronger enemy could rip parts of it off instead of yanking Alina around, and the sway and moving parts took the edge off of attacks aimed at her legs more often than not by absorbing parts of the impact. [break][break]
She had taken some steps to fireproof the setup as much as possible, including asbestos liner and a layer of clothes underneath to take much of the edge off of the temperature should the temperature of the metal rise with the flames. It was difficult and expensive to get a hold of, but absolutely worth the investment due to its heat resistant properties and low weight. Szabla on her left side, and sidearm on her right in a holster, she walked towards the entrance of Dymytrov pulling her signature white dress gloves over her hands in preparation for a fight. Introducing DM Problem #1: Avoid the land mines and make it to the gate (Hazard 10) [break][break]
Attempting Problem “Avoid the land mines and make it to the gate (Hazard 10)” using B Agility [break][break]
Roll: 6 + 6 = 12, success. [break][break]
Explosions started to detonate along the road as she walked alone down the path, large ones that would have turned an average person into paste. It made sense that the enemy would have some sort of verification that the person coming wasn’t a decoy and a fake, and surviving this gauntlet of mines was the first step towards this. Partway through the walk, Alina pulled out her semi-automatic locked breech pistol and used the entirety of its ten round magazine to shoot at mines in front of her that she recognized so she didn’t have to physically trigger all of them with her weight. Replacing the spent ammunition with a stripper clip, she’d reholster it after taking her time on the walk over. She had already wanted to move slowly to the gate to stall for time, and this just gave her a great excuse to do the same. [break][break]
Introducing DM Problem #2: Make it into the city without alerting the perimeter guards (Obstacle or Hazard 9) [break][break]
This event will have a 150% XP modifier for DM and 200% XP modifier for PCs. This event will have a 4 day posting cycle and will last until roughly October 15th. If people post faster, the event can end sooner but giving me that buffer just in case to ensure I can make the DM deadlines. [break][break]
You can create 2 problems for this event per character involved in the event and have a difficulty ceiling of 14 or 10 more than your skill modifier, whichever is more. Even if your character only has a 10% chance of success, you need to pitch problems that they can theoretically do. In your first post, you must either attempt or introduce a problem or you forfeit all XP/RP for the event. [break][break]
If you introduce a problem, do not have to try and solve that problem in the same post (but you can!). If you try and fail to succeed at a problem, the number that you rolled is added to the final total when determining the outcome of the event. This can be represented IC by making progress and chipping away at something, making it perhaps easier for someone else to finish the job. If you try and succeed at solving a problem, what you roll up to the difficulty of the check is added to the outcome total. If you rolled a 15 and the difficulty level was 10, you'd add 10 to the total plus ten from solving the problem. This 10 would be added to the Outcome Points (OP) tally at the end of the event to determine the final result of the event. [break][break]
Solving a problem gives OP to the difficulty of the problem towards the Scenario Outcome, as well as a bonus of 10 points for solving the problem, in other words. [break][break]

Outcome Rank | OP Required | Outcome |
---|---|---|
S | 700 | Civilians saved as well as mine and factories close to operational. This represents a total success. |
A | 600 | Civilians saved as well as one of the mine or factories close to operational with one of them at least partially destroyed. This represents a great success. |
B | 500 | A large number of civilians saved at the cost of the mine and factories being demolished along with the town being moderately damaged. This represents an acceptable success, and the best that could be done with a rough situation. |
C | 400 | A moderate number of civilians was saved at the cost of the mine, factory, and town. This represents the minimum possible outcome to not be considered a complete and utter failure. |
D | 300 | Few civilians rescued at the cost of the mine, factory, and town. This is a disastrous outcome where most of the region is killed. This represents a major victory for the Council’s forces as production in the area will cease for a long period of time. |
E | 250 | No civilians are rescued at the cost of the mine, factory, and town. This is a complete and utter failure and represents a huge victory for the Council’s forces as it will be nearly impossible to restart production without stretching League resources dangerously far. |
F | 200 | No civilians are rescued and in addition to the mine, factory, and town being destroyed agents of the Council were able to fight off Revolutionary Forces in the four villages at the perimeter and retake them as well. This represents a complete loss of control in the region and a decisive and lasting victory for the Council. |
