Fuck.
Even with the machine enhanced physicality of his current state, Huntsman Bernstein was outmaneuvered. It was a trick that would only work once to draw him in close, and only had one chance of succeeding. If it had failed, he would have regained his senses and stayed farther back… but in that moment of the huntsman losing his cool he had put the entire operation in danger, falling for a fake trip that he instinctively tried to capitalize on.
Water dust was activated, because it wasn’t like Alina’s abilities weren’t known, but she was right. Some of it was stuck inside, and while it was diluted there was no way to tell if it was actually enough to do some irreparable damage to the armor once ignited. While it wouldn’t burn through his own aura alone, protecting the internal parts to a suit that was granting him his mobility and strength was going to take a lot more out of him than protecting his own body.
He had also realized that the woman wasn’t listening to a word he was saying, but rather talking to herself. Well, not herself. She was talking to him, but said what she wanted to say regardless of his response. The faunus didn’t give a shit what was being responded with and didn’t interact with him at all, just rattling off her script. It was just another trick to get him distracted, one that he wouldn’t fall for again.
He jumped back with the jets in his feet as the swordsman covered his escape and stayed thirty meters back from there on out, letting the swordsman and sniper cover him. He got on the radio and ordered those on the wall to move and work on containing the enemies that had somehow gotten inside. The radio chatter was distracting and it wasn’t like they could do much from their position anyway, they weren’t making a dent in the aura of the terrorist leader.
There was nothing in the records about her being able to do much at range without her semblance, though, so he’d take his chances. The napalm wasn’t ignited, and until it was it was just uncomfortable and icky.
…
The screeching of rubber that Marion would hear would be an armored jeep with a high caliber machine gun mounted on top of it. These things were fast, cheaper than tanks, and most of all able to be deployed in numbers. One jeep turned into two, which turned into three that circled the lighthouse and made strafing runs. Fighting them would be unwise unless one had the firepower to punch through the armor, but maneuvering around them was very possible. They weren’t so heavily armored that they could safely stop and shoot, and because of that had blind spots that could be taken advantage of. They also couldn’t be too close together for fear of an area of effect attack and had to stall for reinforcements to come, so at most only one would need to be disabled or destroyed if the Kozaks were a little slow... or they could slip in between that brief period where none of them could retaliate if they were quick about it.
