Doctor Yuki Haragitanai
"Ah? You’ll live. Probably. What? I don’t make guarantees."
Age 34 Gender Female Faction Haven Academy Faculty Tier Senior Face Claim Akiko Yosano - Bungou Stray Dogs OOC Name Novakid |
Character Traits
Date of Birth: 7 BV
Species: Human
Hometown: Higanbana
Romantic Orientation: Heterosexual
Hair Color/Style: Ink black, with a slight purple hue. Usually in a messy bob cut.
Eye Color: Lavender
Aura Color: Gold
Height: 173 cm
Weight: 54 kg
Courses Taught: Grimm Anatomy, Dust Chemistry: Theory & Application, Basic Health Training
Appearance: Doctor Haragitanai does not quite fit the image of a typical nurse. She dresses the part in an ordinary white blouse that flares at the sleeves, a simple black skirt, black opaque tights, and heels. She normally wears a golden butterfly-shaped pin on her head, and a pair of black gloves that go way past her wrists, though most of the time the pin is kept on her desk to avoid losing it. Though that’s about where the similarities end. Although she attempts to keep a neat appearance with proper hair styling, a light amount of makeup, and ironed-out clothing, they usually end up disheveled and her clothes wrinkled by the end of the day due to the amount of running around Haragitanai has to do. In terms of height, she’s slightly above average, though such details are negligible.
In addition, she’s quite muscular underneath her flowy blouse and long skirt. One would not expect such a dainty looking woman whose a simple teacher and doctor, though underestimating her strength as a woman and as a nurse could prove nearly fatal. Although she had no scars of any sort on her body, Doctor Haragitanai has a tattoo of the characters “死の医者” written out on each knuckle of her right hand. However, due to how frequently she wears her gloves, no student has been able to see such a tattoo, and hardly any professors are remotely aware of it.
Personality: Doctor Haragitanai is far from a traditional school nurse as you can possibly get. One would usually imagine a nurse being a frail, shy, quaint person with a passion to heal every wound with a nice bandage and a kiss on the forehead. Unfortunately for the Haven Administration, and to a greater extent, the students, she doesn’t fit the bill at all. Her no-nonsense, tough love-like attitude towards students and professors alike has earned her the title of the “Devil’s Doctor.” Perhaps it’s the preconceived notion of the expectations of a doctor’s duty or how they should treat their patients that gets shattered upon meeting her that gave rise to her nickname, or perhaps it’s due to her intimidating aura and utterly frightening shift in personality if you get on her bad side or dare try to insult her.
Small talk isn’t her forte, and most of her relationships with fellow faculty members are at arm’s length at best. She holds nothing back when it comes to pointing out flaws and is not afraid to back up her words with her fists if needed be. Though despite Haragitanai’s intimidating and off-putting nature, she is still a doctor at the end of the day that dedicates her time and energy to making sure nobody dies on her watch, even if it means dragging them out of class and chaining them down to keep their stupid asses from throwing themselves into peril. It may be a simple case of maintaining a strict distinction between her job and her personal interests, perhaps her lack of a filter served as a method to hide her true feelings, but nothing else would kill her more than seeing a student die in front of her.

Combat & Inventory
Seikatsu
Semblance Type: Passive
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: Haragitanai amplifies her Aura to her hands and restore/repair wounds and internal injuries such as broken bones and ruptured blood vessels
Description of Semblance: Seikatsu allows Haragitanai to manipulate her Aura and concentrate it towards her hands, causing a visual illumination around them. Using a percentage of her Aura, Haragitanai can repair wounds by accelerating cell regeneration of the specific organ by physically touching the area. Upon physical contact, her Aura transfers from her hand like a conductor to target the damaged regions and begins the healing process. With a stronger Aura output, she can restore severed limbs provided the missing limb is present. She can heal C-rank injuries and below on any individual and can heal up to two individuals at once.
Drawbacks of Semblance: Although Seikatsu allows Haragitanai to heal injuries and reattach severed body parts, she cannot create cells from nothing. Meaning, she is unable to generate new limbs or missing organs from an individual. In the same realm, she is unable to restore permanently lost cells due to age or disease such as nerve cells. She cannot cure diseases or treat symptoms of disease, meaning her abilities are limited to strictly that of external and internal injuries and trauma. Upon repair of tissue damage, neural fibers for pain are also repaired as well, meaning that Haragitanai's Semblance does not include pain nullification for the duration of the healing process.
In addition, her ability to heal individuals is entirely dependant on her level of concentration. While she can theoretically heal up to two individuals at once, her Aura would be divided between two different people and is limited to only external injuries and she is unable to heal herself. In order to treat internal injuries such as ruptured organs or broken bones, Haragitanai must use both hands and requires concentrate in order to effectively heal them, more so with higher ranked injuries.
Seishi
Description of Weapons(s): Seishi is a pair of long black leather gloves that reach past her wrists to about halfway down her forearm. The knuckles are reinforced with steel plates and the wrist to forearm regions are padded for defensive purposes, however the steel plates are usually padded as well to prevent extreme injury. With a well-placed punch, Haragitanai is capable of putting a large dent into steel plates.

Biography
History
Doctor Yuki Haragitanai was a graduate from Shade Academy, where only those that can survive are welcome. While her reason for traveling all the way to Vacuo is largely unknown, the nature of Vacuo’s environment as well as Shade’s unspoken rule of ‘might is right’ is a likely explanation for Doctor Haragitanai's overwhelming presence and hardened nature, despite her non-combative Semblance. Rather, it’s the fact that her Semblance is largely non-combative that others tend to underestimate Haragitanai.
In order to survive the largely hostile environment, Haragitanai spent the daytime studying basic health courses and regular classes while spending the evening and free time strength training. As a result, Haragitanai has learned how to apply her medical knowledge on the field while being able to properly defend herself. While she graduated without being confined to a single group, she found herself becoming a freelance Huntress, taking on jobs that require escorting medical teams and relief aid to settlements, villages, and towns that are far away from their main cities and often subject to attacks from Grimm and various other bandit groups, especially during the conflicts with the Faunus. Her ability to quickly heal injured individuals while being able to hold her own amidst a battlefield made Haragitanai a valuable asset, however her duties were relieved when a squadron of medics and brand new Huntsmen were ambushed and killed under Haragitanai's watch during a routine travel to a remote village.
Many saw the fault fell on Haragitanai for failing to prioritize the safety of her team members during the ambush and her inability to treat them after fending off the attackers, which happened to be a rowdy group of Faunus, while others viewed the unfortunate event as unavoidable, pointing out that she made an effort to try and rescue her squadron while suffering damage herself. Regardless, the trust placed in Haragitanai as a combat medic had fallen and doubt was cast over her ability to handle herself on the battlefield. She resigned from her position and ended up drifting for some time between villages to offer her services as a former Huntress stripped of her honor and prestige.
It was then that The Fall had occurred and news of Haven Academy becoming in desperate need of new faculty and students had reached Haragitanai. While she could never forgive herself for her inability to save that group of bright Huntsmen and Medics, Doctor Kukojin had resolved herself to dedicate the rest of her time to train and teach the newest group of upcoming Huntsmen and Huntresses to the best of her ability.
Extra
- Haragitanai means ‘Black-hearted’ while Yuki means happiness. Separating her first name yields Yu, meaning gentle and Ki, meaning hope.
- Doctor Haragitanai is left handed, though she uses her right hand often to throw off opponents.
- She is notorious among Shade graduates as a terrifying fighter due to her unorthodox method of literally punching the shit out of her opponent until they were unable to move and an even more terrifying healer since she could technically heal people while still inflicting pain by giving them a 'healing punch'.
- Haragitanai tends to have a bad habit of smiling when she’s furious, which makes it very difficult to tell when she’s genuinely happy or ready to put a hole in a student.
She periodically has episodes of seeing her dead squadron, causing her to space out
