Niraya Platinum When snow falls, Nature listens.
[attr="class","rainbow"]
Niraya gets up early she had planned on working at the broken steel today but she also wanted to help the students at the school. So she sends out a mass message. "Hey, I'm stopping by an old friend of mine he is the forge master at Broken Steel. Feel free to drop by I will gladly help keep your equipment in great condition. if your equipment got broken I will try my best to repair it to the best condition I can make it."
Afterwards, she lets Jixie off of her charging pad and lets her play around in the room while she was gone. "I'm sorry you can't come with me today. just stay here and be a good girl ok." Niraya smiles at Jixie as it lets out a sad beep. Niraya gets changed into a normal set of clothing that she wouldn't mind it getting damaged by hot metal or cut. She then pets Jixie and heads out.
She makes her way down to the Wind District where her mentor had his shop. The Broken Steel Forge wasn't a large shop from the outside but the owner built it slightly into the ground allowing for more room to work with. She walks in and is greeted by her mentor Jack. "Niraya glad to see you again. How has Haven been treating you?" Niraya walks up to him and punches him in the gut. he takes the blow with a smile on his face. "Glad to see you have gotten stronger." Niraya smiles. "Glad to see the abs of steel you brag about are still going strong." They both laugh at this.
Jack speaks up first. "So what brings you to my shop today?" Niraya smiles. "Needing a bit of money so I'm here to work for the day since there are no classes." Jack nods. "For you, I will always have a spot open. head into the back and grab some steel." Niraya nods. "There might be some people from Haven showing up I offered to maintain their gear." Jack nods. "I will be sure to send them your way. and I will let you handle the fees."
Niraya nods and heads into the back there were two other employees. she recognized both of them, Tim, the Silent Smith. and Roy the Ego Man himself. Tim gives Niraya a nod as she walks by but Roy lets out a grunt. He wasn't much for Niraya's presence. made things easier as he left her alone. She grabs the leather gear she needs and starts to shape some steel.
She pulls a bar of steel from the bin and welds it to a control rod so she could more easily manipulate the hot steel. once the rod was attached to the steel bar she pushes it into the forge and pumps the bellows. the heat coming off of the forge was intense but Niraya used to the heat. After about a minute the steel begins to glow a sign it was ready to be forged. She pulls it out and grabs a hammer and walks over to the anvil. She begins to hammer away at the metal. Each strike ringing out as she worked. hot bits of oxidized metal fly off in every direction as she does this. She carefully plans her strikes slowly working the metal into its shape. Every now and then she had to put it back into the forge to heat up.
With each strike, the steel bar slowly changed shape. She was making it longer and thinner as she was forging a blade. She carefully plans out the blade as she strikes getting most of the work done in the forging before it went for grinding. Each strike moving the metal closer and closer to the final shape. She hammers in the bevel to the blade which widened the blade allowing for room to grind as well reduce the amount needed to ground. Once the blade was where it was needed she plunges it into a tank of water to cool it down before handing it off to Tim who was grinding away at some of the other blades. Tim nods to Niraya to show he would do the grinding. Niraya heads back to the forget and starts on another blade.

Braun unloaded what looked to be a long, heavy, metal briefcase from the back of his jeep, setting it down on the ground to slam the trunk closed. There was a chirping sound as he locked it, and he strode towards the Wind District with the case, his weapon within. General Thumper had been dinged pretty bad during moving, unfortunately. Braun hadn't bothered to get a sturdy case for it before he got on the ferry to Mistral, and someone had buried it beneath a stranger's luggage during loading. There was a noticeable flimsy-ness to it when he unpacked it in the dorms, so, pale-faced, he set it aside, vowing to get it fixed as soon as he could. How convenient, then, that someone had sent out a public message to students, an invitation to repair any gear.
Braun looked up from the map on his Scroll, seeing the modest establishment The Broken Steel. Shrugging, he went inside, the door ringing to announce his entry, then the buzz of passersby in the street stopping as the door closed behind him. It was warmer in this building, the sound of metal hitting metal coming from the back of the building. An older man in the first room looked up from behind the counter.
"Hello, welcome to the Broken Steel, what can we do for you?" He said.
"Hi, uh, I'm a student from Haven Academy, I saw the invitation and I've got something I need fixed, can you do that?" Braun said, showing the gun case. The older man nodded.
"You'll want to talk to Niraya, she's at the forge. Watch your step in there." He pointed in the direction the clanging was coming from. Braun nodded, thanked him, and made his way towards the back, clutching the case to his chest.
Upon entering the workroom, he was hit with a wave of hot air, and reflexively shielded his face with his forearm, the light a subtle orange from the glow of the forge. Seeing the girl working away, Braun spoke a loud, "Excuse me!" over the sound of the hammer. When it stopped, he showed a friendly smile. "Hi, I saw your message and came as soon as I could, can you help me?" He unpacked the case, revealing a 60mm grenade launcher within.
"My name is Braun von Baer, and this is General Thumper."

Niraya was happily hammering away at the metal pickaxe she was working on. Each hit slowly turning the metal piece into the final shape she was going for. As she hammers away she was kinda humming to herself a little tune that was in rhythm to her hammer swings. She was swift in her craft forging out the pickaxe in half an hour. She cools it down in the trough and checks it for fractures. Afterwards, she puts it in the Annealing oven. At the same time, she hears the door but keeps working unsure if it was a customer or a student. Maybe she should have also mentioned where it was located. though people did have access to the internet so looking up the name of the place should be sufficent...hopefully.
She pushes that thought aside when she spots a young man carrying a case clutched to his chest and his arm blocking the light of the forges he passed by. She doesn't recognize them but greets them with a warm smile. "Greetings. I'm Niraya!" The man greeted her in kind before pulling out a gun. 'General Thumper' interesting name for a weapon. She takes it and looks it over. In all honesty, it looked like it went through a dryer a few hundred times. "was it in that case when it was damaged?" Niraya was curious as to why the weapon was so banged up. As she waits for an answer she looks over the weapon to see what she would need to do to fix it.

Braun lowered his arm, though still a bit uncomfortable in the heat. "No, the case is new. The launcher was damaged before during travel, when I carried it in a duffel bag, you know, like a moron." He said, his face red not from the heat, but from dreadful embarrassment. "I've arrived in town pretty recently, so it was great timing when you put your notice out, especially before any big assignments where, like, we have to go out into the field to fight Grimm or whatever." Then he looked at the person handling his weapon. Furry ears. Fluffy Tail. She's a faunus! While he hid his awe, he couldn't help but wonder. Braun's interaction with faunus before coming to Mistal was limited, so he was excited to get to talk to one.
"Sorry if this is awkward, but uh... does your tail get in the way of your work very often? Like, with all the heat and workplace hazards, I'd think that it would be almost scary to be hanging around where there are tools and hot metal moving about, especially if you have to brush past other people." He indicated the two other employees working away.
"Like one time I burned myself on the stove and it scorched away some of the hair on my arm, so I'd be terrified of hot surfaces if I had fur like that. How'd you get into this sort of job anyways? It's pretty wild for a student to be working in a place like this, your boss must be a really cool dude or something."

Niraya takes the weapon over to a table and dismantles it pretty quickly. She was separating the damaged parts from the un-damaged ones so she could get a better idea at the damage. her ears perked up when he talked and turns towards him so she could hear him. "Happens to us all. a lesson on taking care of your things. especially during times where you are not in complete control." She pulls over the barrel and the drum to the anvil and sets them down. "Might have to reforge the barrel but the drum is only slightly miss aligned." She takes a small hammer and gently fixes the drum since it was only miss aligned.
She puts the drum back over with the unbroken parts and looks over the barrel. as she does this the guy commented on how bad it must be to have all that fur while working near hot forges. "well. at first, it really sucked. almost every day my fur was singed. but ever since my semblance was awakened it hasn't been too much of a problem." As if to show off a little. she creates a mask out of ice on he face and pulls it off with her tongue sticking out as sort of a tease. "Having an ice semblance has many uses in a forge. even used it to cool off an oil fire. which was kinda bad." She tosses the mask into the water barrel used to cool off the metal.
She then looks back at the barrel as if figuring out what its made of. "Did you make this? or did you buy this?" She was curious as it wasn't anything special. a pretty common metal for most guns. good at absorbing heat and dealing with it for heavy uses. but at the same time, it had some soft spots which lead to the dents and stuff in it. was it heavily used before or was not properly treated. these questions had her deciding how to approach the reforge.

Braun watched as Niraya examined the dismantled weapon, only a little bothered at its pieces being separated. In hindsight, maybe it would've been a good idea to bring the weapon schematics along, but... she knew what she was doing. "You can do whatever you need to do to fix it, I'm uh, putting my faith in you," He said.
An ice semblance... Braun wondered at how this person found a way to use their semblance in a way that it wasn't just useful in fighting Grimm, especially when it was something as niche as ice creation. Since arriving at Haven, it almost felt like every other student he met had awakened a super fancy semblance that seemed to push the limits of what should be humanly possible. Here was someone who could make ice out of almost nowhere! "Ice? Dang, I bet that's useful during summer too, like, when you need to keep your drinks cool. I bet you could find a bunch of ways to use that, actually."
At her question, Braun became a bit embarrassed again. He heard that a lot of huntsmen students forged their own weapons by hand, which was something he couldn't get around to doing before arriving. "Well, uh, I had to make a custom order from a forging company over in Atlas, and anything of special quality was out of my budget. So I just sent them a list of specifications, and I assume they cast or , like, machined the parts before sending them back to me for re-assembly."
Braun folded his arms and raised his eyebrows. "I'll have you know, I followed their directions perfectly, and it was fine before I got on the boat. I even took it out to the firing range for testing, but like, that was about the only time it's been used so far, aside from that aptitude test to get accepted to Haven. It's just, well, I guess either the material or manufacturing process was made cheaper to lower the price tag, so, like, the weapon itself isn't as durable as I might prefer. Which sucks, because it has a baton form that I'm going to be whacking things with, and I don't want it falling apart on me in the middle of an engagement, you know?"
"You're a student at Haven Academy, too, so I bet you have a weapon of your own. How did you get yours, what was that like?"

Niraya gives Braun a warm smile when he said he was putting his faith in her. She walks over to a pile of various scrap metal and pulls out a large chunk of metal and examines it. "nice Damascus steel. thought he used the last of it." She was smiling was this perhaps some interesting metal? She welds a small pole onto it before she drops the piece of Damascus in the forge to start warming it up. Niraya chuckles a bit hearing him compliment her with her semblance. "Such a simple thing but it does have its limits. if the air is pretty dry I will not be able to form much ice."
She stands there next to the forge as it takes a bit to heat up the metal. She was fine with idle conversation and he seemed willing to provide. when she heard the weapon was ordered from atlas she looked a little worried. atlas as nice of a company as they are. they tend to cut corners when necessary. he's lucky his weapon didn't detonate in his hands. "lowest bidder is always the worst. they don't always give you what you pay for because they want to turn a profit."
He then mentions what her weapon was like. She smiles and walks over to the wall behind him and pulls out her katana and unsheaths it. Its crimson red blade shining in the light of the forges. "here is Crimson Heart. I didn't forge it all myself. but I was still learning when I received it." She hands over the blade so he could examine it. The red metal blade was balanced by a dragon head pommel. once he was finished examining it she sheathes the blade and puts it back down where she had it before walking back to the forge and checking the piece of metal.
Braun mentions that his weapon was a club as well so the barrel was meant to deal some damage directly. "You want this thing to do some bashing. Well, you're in luck. Not only will your gun look interesting but this should be able to make a dent in atlas steel without any issues." The metal was glowing meaning it was ready for forging. She pulls it out and sets it down on the anvil and begins to hammer it. some sparks fly off but Niraya was carefully doing it in such a way to keep the metal flakes from hitting Braun. every now and then she stops and compares it to the damaged part. She keeps hammering away humming a little tune as she worked.

Braun frowned a bit in thought, in hindsight of course it would've been better to invest in a more sturdy weapon, just as she suggested. Maybe next time he'll consult someone with a bit more know-how before ordering something like this.
"Yeah, going forward I think I'll be more careful where I get my stuff from. Heck, maybe I'll learn to make some of my own, like you. A lot of people I've spoken to over here in Mistral have said they made their own weapon, like, when they were attending a combat school before coming to Haven, so I've been considering learning the basics of machining to maintain my own stuff or, like, make my own shells."
The sound of a blade being drawn made the hair on his arm stand on end, but when Braun took Crimson Heart in his hands, he looked it over, wearing a small grin. "The blade... it's curved. That's kind of weird," He looked at Niraya, with a reassuring glance, "Like, in a good way." He looked at the pommel, the dragon head staring back at him. "I've never seen a sword like this before. To be honest, I'm not much of a sword person, but like, this is neat, I can dig it. I wonder how the blade got to be colored like that." He gingerly handed the sword back to the fox girl.
Hearing that General Thumper could withstand a blow against solid steel made Braun smile fiercely. "Yes! That's great to hear, I've been kind of worried about that. A lot of my martial arts 'technique' boils down to hitting something as hard as I can, so that should be perfect."
Braun was quiet for a bit as he watched as Niraya worked, the only sounds her humming and the rhythm of the hammer. His interest piqued by the material she picked out. "That metal, it's good for guns? It's all... wavy looking. It looks cool, don't get me wrong, but you'd think a pattern like that would indicate the material being kind of weak, due to the structure not being uniform or something. Then again, I'm not very well versed on the, uh, arts of steel. What's so special about this steel compared to typical gunmetal? That's probably not what it's called, but you get my question."

Niraya smiles. "Learning to make your own stuff will go a long way to helping you out when you are in the field. hence why so many make their own weapon. they know its intricate parts and are able to fix it quickly." She had flatted the piece of metal to a very wide version of a metal sheet. she then begins the process of rolling the metal hammering it over the round part of the anvil.
As she rounds the shape she thinks on his question on how the metal was stronger. "Well, I guess the correct answer is to say its folded hundreds of times. each fold adds strength to it. it is kinda how to make a katana blade. very time consuming hence why there isn't much of it. and the pattern is lost in the forging process due to oxidization but an acid bath brings out the pattern again. both of the metals folded into each other are high strength similar to gunmetal. but far more effective at bashing as well."
She rounded it out and carefully tries to weld the ends together. she pours some sort of powder on the parts that touch and using a metal rod forges it into a cylinder. She then walks over to a large set of tools and finds a rod with the proper diameter and forces it into the metal cylinder to shape it's inside as she finalizes the exterior. "think of it as a cheap upgrade to a bad purchase. speaking of which. I will be needing some money for this...how about 2000." She was joking, of course, it was just a gun barrel, not a full sword.

Braun thought a bit more on the prospect making his own things, and decided he'd look into if metalworking or something similar was offered at Haven as an elective. After Niraya's mention of how that knowledge could help out in the field, Braun added, "They didn't teach us a whole lot about that in basic training when I was considering signing up for the military, but that's probably because they have dedicated people for maintenance, and not every single infantryman needs to be trained on the specifics of how their gear was manufactured. But when your weapon as a huntsman is almost always custom-made, it makes sense that we should practice keeping our stuff in top shape, especially if we're stationed in a more remote location."
Dwelling some on the specifics of Damascus steel, it seemed like a lot of effort went into making that metal, hence why it wasn't too common. It probably wasn't used in massive amounts very often, but if it can be used for both guns and martial weapons, he figured huntsmen everywhere used it. It's sturdiness, in particular, would go miles when implemented into General Thumper.
At her stating the price however, Braun nearly gawked at Niraya, not realizing she was joking. 2000 really was a lot, but... he thought. She said the steel was super good, and that's exactly what I need if I'm going to make it as a huntsman. Is that price reasonable for a gun barrel? It was hand made, so probably. He let out a defeated sigh, before saying "That's a little steep, do you have, like, a student discount here?"

Niraya stops and looks at Braun. "A military man huh? HEHEHE welcome to hell I guess. instead of relying on everyone in your unit you have to hope the hunter or huntress your teamed with will have your back. We don't exactly go to the friendliest of places in our line of work." She goes back to hammering out the metal slowly smoothing it out. that is when Braun said the price was a bit much clearly missing her little joke. but she played along. "Well. I guess I can give you a discount. how about a thousand then? maybe you want something a little better. lowest I can go is 750"
She carefully knocks off the barrel from the rod and puts it in the annealing oven. "it will be a while before the metal cools down so it can be finalized. so I should have it finished by this afternoon. early morning at the latest." She walks over to the weapon parts and reassembles what she could. the barrel was the only missing part but she got most of it back together. "You wanting to leave these here for final fitting or just come back with it?"

Braun snorted a bit at the "welcome to hell." Both careers, a huntsman or soldier, could be unpleasant, sure, but that was the nature of a dangerous job. Still, she had a point when it came to who one had to rely on. "Yeah, I get it. But, while its a bit intimidating to have to rely on a smaller group, Huntsmen are also trained more, and they're teams are more tightly-knit, so I'm not too worried. Especially if, well, I'm considering a position as a team leader one of these days. Not any time soon, mind you, but like maybe after a few semesters I'll look into what that's like."
After the brief "haggling," Braun nodded, pleased with the adjusted value. "750 is much more doable, thanks so much! I'm a student too, after all." He smiled though, simply glad that he was able to get his gun repaired so quickly. He watched as Niraya worked, the shape becoming more and more apparent with each blow of the hammer.
With the price settled, he was eager to see it finished, and could hardly wait to see it reassembled. But... "I guess it'd be best to leave everything here for the final fitting, just in case, to see that everything gets done properly on the first try. As pleasant as it is to chat with you, I don't want to have to come back to get the same thing fixed a second time. That wouldn't compliment my wallet." Braun let out a small chuckle, before continuing.
"That said, maybe we can exchange phone numbers? Like, you could send me a message when this is done, and maybe at a later time we could hang out or something. I'd be down to partner for an assignment, maybe you could show me how you handle that sword of yours?"

Niraya nods when he said he was leaving the stuff here. She moved it over so she could work on other things while she waited for the part to properly harden. "Well good luck with becoming a leader. quite a stressful job if you ask me. but I'm sure you can handle it." She pulls out her scroll and sends Braun a quick message. with how quickly she has done that it was obvious metalworking wasn't her only skill. "I will call you or message in a few hours time after final fitting is finished. You can give the payment to Jack and that should be settled." She waves goodbye to him before going back to work on another order that needed to be done.

KISHKA BURZANOVA
Hmph.
Of all the absolute insults sufferable, this had to have been one of the worst. She was a Sanctum Graduate! An expert tactician, and a skilled fighter at both short and mid-long range! She was a damn prodigy, even, she felt she could go so far as to say. And they had assigned her to fucking guard duty? Pathetic. She should have been on the train mission, but instead she was stuck at Haven while her idiot cousin and that damnable Deraine soaked up all the glory. Plus, she could have gotten away with some supreme villainy on that train! Err. Well, in theory- she really had to pick and choose her villainous moments well, considering she wasn't trying to get expelled or arrested. Yet.
And so, fuming with petty rage, the purple-haired trickster made her way to something-or-other forge. She couldn't really be bothered to remember the name of the place, some chick had sent out a message to the student body offering repairs, and currently her precious Lucky 13 was looking a little rough. Nothing too bad, just a lot of scuff marks, some of the chain-mesh on the umbrella was coming loose, and the barrel needed to be cleaned out and tuned up. She probably could have done it herself, but who had time to waste like that? It was best to just take it to a professional, or at least some loser with dreams of being a professional.
Either way, it saved her the effort of tracking down tools and parts, and actually making her own repairs. She may have designed her weapon, but upkeeping it was not really her favorite chore.
Soon, she got to the shop, as she could tell by the acrid-sweet scent of molten steel. Kishka paused outside for a second, putting on her best first-impression face. She couldn't exactly be her ordinarily bitchy self to the blacksmiths here- she needed her weapon in top shape for her mission, even if it wasn't going to see any use. Always better to err on the side of safety, you know?
Maybe she'd get lucky, and a huge Nevermore would show up, and she could finally prove to everyone that she wasn't someone to take lightly.
With a genuine (looking) smile on her face, she stepped into the forge, taking a faux-curious look around. Those years of acting lessons? In use. She flashed a big friendly smile to the man at the front. "Hello! I'm Kishka Burzanova- I have an appointment today with a Niraya Platinum?" The man gestured to the back, towards clangorous metallic sounds and a steady waft of heat. Of course she was back there. Of course.
Her smile never faded as she strode into the girl's workspace, offering a small knock on the door as she entered. As she came in, a big beefy guy passed by her, and she took a moment to internally scream at him- if she wasn't mistaken, he was another reject assigned to her train detail. They needed someone with a brain, not single-cell Nik, asshole Colton, and a guy so brawny she wouldn't be surprised if that was his name. Wait. Wasn't that his name? Figures.
Setting aside her personal issues for a moment, she beamed brightly at the fox faunus. "Niraya? Hello, I am Kishka Burzanova. Here to see you for a weapon tune-up. A pleasure." She extended her hand to the girl. Handshakes were friendly, right? Yeah. Friendly and nice. All she really had to do was fight the urge to throw up while doing her best impression of her goody-two-shoes golden-girl twin.
It was definitely harder than it looked.

Niraya Platinum When snow falls, Nature listens.
[attr="class","rainbow"]
Niraya was in the middle of banging a sheet of metal into shape when her next customer showed up. As Niraya worked she could hear a female voice in the front room talking. Niraya quickly works to get the metal piece she was working on to a stoppable state. It's around that time when a young woman with purple hair and a very skin-hugging set of clothes on. This caused Niraya to blush a bit.
They smile at her and rather quickly says they wanted their equipment fixed. Niraya smiles at her but doesn't shake her hand as she is a little sweaty. "Pleasure to meet you. so what are you needing to be repaired?" She hammers out the piece of metal a few more times before putting it aside in the forge to keep it warm. She then clears off her workspace a bit so Kishka can place the stuff needing to be fixed on the workspace. "Anything, in particular, you need me to do...or is it just fixing up a few bits and bobs?"
