Duncan 'Wolf' Breen
"When life gives you lemons, it's time for some lemonade!"
Age 17 Gender Male Faction Haven Academy Tier Beginner Face Claim Adobe CS4 Promotional Artwork by Shilin Huang OOC Name Dark Link |
Character Traits
Date of Birth: May 11th, 8 AV
Species: Human
Hometown: Menagerie
Romantic Orientation: Heterosexual
Hair Color/Style: Brown/Messy
Eye Color: Blue
Aura Color: Blue
Height: 173 cm
Weight: 70 kg
Appearance: Duncan favours fewer layers of clothing, often wearing shorts and t-shirts. Even when he has to put on something longer, he tries to get away with wearing tracksuits or similar loose outfits that offer a greater degree of mobility whenever possible. His hair is as simplistic as his fashion sense, often being short and unkempt. He has a cloth bracelet on his left wrist, a gift from his sister. Part of his chest is adorned with a wolf tattoo.
Though he may appear rather lean at first glance, he has a fairly athletic build and his body is covered by an assortment of scars, an indication of the harsh environments and relentless training he had subjected himself to. Despite his shorter stature, Duncan carries himself in a bold upright fashion. When interacting with others, he rarely responds without some form of smile playing on his face.
Personality: Duncan's general demeanour tends to be jovial and energetic. When interacting with others, he will act in a very hearty and chatty manner. Even if the people he speaks with are grumpy, angry or even insulting, he will generally try to shrug off or play off the hostility, using humour to try and diffuse the situation.
This is not to say that Duncan is afraid of conflict; far from it. If pressed into a fight, he is just as eager to trade blows and quips as he is jokes and banter. In fact, he absolutely relishes a good fight. No matter what opponent or obstacle he may have to face, he will do so with zeal, determination and stubbornness. However, this has often landed him in hot water, situations that he usually only managed to get out of due to being quick with both his wit and his feet.
Duncan also has a soft spot for members of the fairer sex. If he sees a girl, he is almost certain to seek out her company and engage in some playful banter, even a bit of flirting. But out of a desire to be friendly and courteous, he will never push this attitude farther than the girl he is talking to is comfortable with. In addition, he makes it a point not to restrain himself on account of this soft spot in a fight; at the end of the day, an opponent is an opponent.
Because of his frequent devil-may-care attitude, Duncan may come off as blithe and careless on the surface. But in truth, he takes his duties as a Hunter very seriously. He possesses a strong sense of justice, desiring to protect those who can't protect themselves at all costs. As a result, he often pushes himself to great extremes in both training and duties. Furthermore, he is determined to live up to the legacy his family had built, wanting nothing more than to help fulfill his father's dream of a world where humans and faunus could live in peace.
But as loathe as he is to show it, the sheer burden of this legacy can be difficult for him to burden. At times, when others are not looking, Duncan can find himself in a solemn and contemplative state, thinking of the future and what he needs to do. In addition, while he does not regret his decision to pursue a Hunter's path, it is the love for his family that can sometimes make him yearn for the clear skies and sandy beaches he left behind.

Combat & Inventory
Water Fang Fist
Rank of Semblance: E
Semblance Type: Manipulator
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: Duncan manipulates a mass of water and solidifies it as a projectile in the shape of a wolf before releasing it at a foe.
Description of Semblance: When in contact with water, Duncan is able to manipulate it and morph it into a projectile that he can attack his foe with. In his case, it solidifies in the general shape of a small wolf that charges at his target and slams into them. In addition to inflicting damage, this causes the target to be soaking wet.
Although the wolf appears as though it is running, the actual sturdiness of the surface it is traversing doesn't matter. The wolf has a range of about 10 meters. Unless it hits a target or obstacle, it will quickly dissolve back into water beyond that point.
Drawbacks of Semblance: In addition to being a draining move, Duncan lacks the ability to produce water himself. As such, he is forced to either bring a supply of water with him or manipulate an existing source in order to use this semblance. Since the size of the projectile is not small, he requires at least a larger puddle's worth of water in order to execute it.
Despite its animal appearance, the projectile does not possess actual autonomy or intelligence. It can only charge at a straight line in the direction it was aimed. Furthermore, even though the projectile is not technically running, it is still only able to impact targets that are at or near ground level.
Alexis
Rank of Weapon(s): F
Description of Weapons(s): A large round shield with a protruding half-spherical center, fashioned out of wood and steel. Despite the ornamental carvings on its front, it seems like a fairly simple defensive and bashing instrument on the surface. However, it stores and is attached to a 7 meter long chain that is attached to a gauntlet that Duncan wears on the other end, enabling him to manipulate the shield as a heavy projectile. It also has compartments on its edges that allow the shield to be enhanced with dust. Lastly, it can transform into a full-fledged surfboard, with the chain allowing for easier navigation.

Biography
History
Duncan is the son of Donovan 'Don' Breen, a bushranger turned guerilla fighter that helped organise and lead the Menagerie Expedition Corps, a group of volunteers that fought in the Faunus Rights Revolution. Regarded as a local legend in Menagerie and one of the most (in)famous human sympathisers with the faunus cause, opinions across Remnant remain divided on whether he is a hero and a freedom fighter or a criminal and a traitor to his own kind.
It was amidst the creation of this legacy that Duncan was born. He was still a young boy when his father left Menagerie to fight in the conflict, thus spending most of his time with his faunus mother and older sister. The latter enjoyed using Duncan as a literal chew toy, resulting in a myriad of fights between them. It was his tendency to use a plank of wood to defend himself in these playful encounters that inspired his mother to fashion him a shield, first as a toy and then as a proper weapon.
Despite seeming like a tropical paradise, life on Menagerie is not easy. Even in its more hospitable parts, the continent is filled with extremely deadly animals and plants that can spell a quick death to the unwary, which doesn't even include the ever-present threat of Grimm. So the sheer act of living posed a serious challenge to the young family, with close brushes with death not being an uncommon occurrence. Nevertheless, they did their best to make the most of it. It certainly taught Duncan to enjoy life by the spoonful at every opportunity, so he spent many days on the beach. But despite this, at evenings, he would nag his mother to regale him with tales of his father's many exploits.
When the elder Breen returned, he did not cut his offspring any slack. In a desire to shape them to be up to the task of facing even greater challenges if need be, he subjected them to intense and grueling training. This included expeditions into the wilderness, where he intentionally sought out dangerous creatures and then observed how his children would handle them, intervening only if absolutely necessary.
At first, Duncan resented this training regiment, viewing it as pointless and borderline suicidal. But over time, it helped him understand the enormous odds his father had to face in pursuit of his dreams. This sparked the aspiration within Duncan to uphold that dream and legitimise it in the eyes of the world. He wanted to build upon his father's legacy and defend the weak and the innocent in a way that his father never had an opportunity to. He wanted to become a Hunter.
Five years after his father had returned home, an opportunity would present itself to him. The Fall was such a cataclysmic event for Anima and Remnant as a whole that word of Mistral's desperate need for new Hunters reached even the shores of Menagerie. Despite his hesitation to leave the only home he had ever known, Duncan was not the type to refuse such a chance. After bidding farewell to his loved ones, he set on the long and arduous journey to Argus, bearing the hopes and dreams of his family and Menagerie as a whole.
However, many people had begun to question whether the revolution had brought the change they desired. And while some still maintained hope, others began to quietly sharpen their fangs...

Duncan is derived from the name Donnchadh, which is itself compromised of the words for 'brown' and 'battle'. It is reflective of both Duncan's hair colour as well as his willingness to get down and dirty when faced with a challenge.
