[attr="class","nikki109"]This was asinine. [break][break]
Forcing the current faculty to come together and vote on student assignment was asinine. There was absolutely no reason why the decision couldn’t be unilateral, done at either the Headmaster or the Combat faculty level. While the midterms decided if students could take on missions for themselves, the fact of the matter was that the Headmaster had the authority to assign trainees to missions as well – and traditionally did so semi-frequently to more senior students. Since more senior students didn’t really exist because of Haven Academy’s unique circumstances, he needed to know which students were qualified to participate in what types of missions should Haven wish to fill a few teams. [break][break]
Shadecloak, Van Sange, and Haragitanai were due to have a meeting to determine which students were qualified to go out on each type of huntsman mission on behalf of Haven Academy. The email noted that any students with two approvals from faculty would be put on the available list for that type of mission and anyone with three approvals would be put on the priority list and be the first ones selected should the need arise. Students with one or zero votes would not be put on the list and while they could take on missions of their own volition assuming they passed the midterm it would not be the same type of specifically Headmaster sanctioned type of thing where the reputation of the institution was at stake. [break][break]
The missions that students would take of their own volition were usually made by private individuals or small companies, but the missions that students were assigned to were almost always at the behest of the Mistral Council and as such failure wasn’t a thing that could be tolerated due to the risk of the Council deciding to clean house and replace everyone on the payroll at the worst case scenario. Because these missions would only involve the students, the Headmaster had also asked for a shortlist of trainees with leadership potential to put in charge of the missions as they came along. This was to be decided in the same manner as the shortlists for who was eligible for each type of mission. [break][break]
Shadecloak was dressed in her usual dress slacks, white dress shirt, and black vest. For her part, the Faunus looked as bored as ever with her green eyes having the appearance of being rather disinterested like this was going to be some meeting about what color the school was going to be painted or something. She came to the briefing room an hour early to set up, having already set up the smart board and had her legs kicked up on a table while taking a quick nap before the inevitable sound of the door opening would wake her up. There would be no jolting or unnecessary movement when she awoke, either, because sleeping and waking up without moving an inch was just muscle memory at this point. [break][break]
The smartboard was set up to have the different Huntsman Missions on display in columns, with the names of the students who qualified for each type being written underneath. The lion faunus, not wanting to be in there for overly long, had already moved names into locations as a starting point. If she was very lucky, this would be over and done with in five minutes. If she was very unlucky, then she would be stuck in here for hours. There were notes in the corner that stated that a plus meant that the particular student should excel in that type of mission and is recommended for priority listing. Students with a minus symbol were noted to be supportive roles only, and to never be made leader of even a mission of that type even if their skill was up to snuff. A tilde notes that the trainee could excel in that type of mission but isn’t there yet. An exclamation point marks that this student should not be considered currently but could be if individual problems are worked out. A mix of two symbols means that the first one is where they’re at now, and the second one is where they would be if they solved their current issues. [break][break]

The entire thing was editable, and she knew that neither of the other people convening in the room would be shy about changing the names around. Search and Rescue along with Escort were the most barren lists, largely because sending someone who wasn’t polished on one of those missions meant that civilians died. Search and Destroy along with Perimeter Defense were the most populated, because generally speaking those were the easiest types of missions that required little finesse and could just be accomplished through brute force and not being a total dick to civilians respectively. [break][break]
If nothing else, having a defined starting point avoided the bitching and moaning and arguing about where to initially place people for an hour or two and sped things up significantly. If they wanted to further demarcate the trainees into different roles or whatever that was fine, but Shade was fairly confident in her list at least in terms of effectiveness in types of missions as of today. In the future the rankings could change, especially if some students were able to overcome currently crippling weaknesses such as Asterion’s loss of reasoning during semblance use or Evangeline not having a spine, but as of today both of them are excluded from some of the lists due to their current deficiencies. [break][break]
Those deficiencies and the logic behind the ranking could be provided if the other two cared enough, but Shade was holding out a small candle of hope that they’d more or less be okay with the rankings as is and she wouldn’t be in this room for the rest of the day. It almost certainly wasn’t going to happen, but a girl could dream. Much more likely was that one of the two would get pissed at someone and derail the fuck out of this until there was pointless yelling and insults being thrown around for an uncomfortable period of time before they were able to focus again. [break][break]
That’d be asinine.
