When you try to run an honest business, you sometimes need to deliver an unmarked cardboard box filled with medicinal herbs in some guy's dorm room, even though you are quite certain you have never spoken with him in person. Holly had heard through the channels that Jack Jr. knew how to make medicine from Holly's plants. Well...she heard it in Homeroom class. Yesterday. Still! A proper channel! After setting up a meeting through the class chat, Holly was walking through Haven's hallways carrying a moving box filled with a selection of only the best locally sourced herbs. It was an experiment, as Holly wasn't all that experienced in growing anything but fruits and vegetables up to this point. [break] [break]
Well, she hoped this would all work...because she had to listen to Qiu'li explain the plants all in great detail for what felt like hours. Of course, Holly only listened to the important parts. What the damn things actually did, and how much water they needed. She had her semblance to do all the hard growing that would normally take weeks or months. Of course, she cheated nature, but it doesn't really matter if the end result is the same, right? Her tomatoes were indiscernible from those that took months to grow. Her healing herbs would still work like normal, right? [break] [break]
Jack was supposed to be inside of his room, and this was his room. Holly had walked to what she thought was the right door in the right corridor. Well, here it goes. Holly simply tried to open the door by keeping the box clutched with one hand. Of course, she did so without knocking or making her presence known. Jack had said that he was going to his room quite some time ago, and as he was expecting her, he should be already presentable and ready. That was only natural! As she attempted to go inside, she did announce herself entering the room...while she was already doing that...so it quite defeating the purpose of the supposed gesture. Deadpan expression and tone of voice were of course all there, as is tradition. "Holly Hock here, I like plants, I am here with the delivery! You can make something good out of this, I hope?" Scorpion sting, I don't wanna

It was an odd request, especially coming from a near-complete stranger, over the Haven Academy Green Class group chat.
But, considering he had made a point of expressing his skills with medicine, which did extend to medicinal herbs, a little bit, it wasn't surprising exactly that he'd have someone asking for his help. That was, after all, why he cited that as one of his skills in the green class introduction. And so, when Holly asked him to help her, he gave her his room number, although he would have preferred meeting somewhere else- it felt a little odd meeting a stranger in his bedroom, even if she was a classmate.
He had just finished making a pot of tea to accompany the small lemon pound cake he had baked earlier in the morning, and was setting them out on the little coffee table across from his dorm's TV set, when he heard his door open, and Holly Hock, presumably, walked in. Well, then... That was unexpected, to say the least, but to his credit, he wasn't too startled, largely because she announced her entry at about the same time she started opening the door. He stood up straight, and offered a friendly wave, as his wings shuffled back a bit uncomfortably, tucking as out-of-sight as they could be, given their size. "H-hi Holly. I'm uh. Jack, but you o-obviously know that already. C-care for tea and cake?" He gestured to the table behind him, featuring the lemon pound cake and a kettle of freshly brewed Earl Grey. If Holly so chose, he would take a seat opposite her and cut a slice and pour a cup for her, as she showed him the herbs.
Regardless of whether she consented to his tea and cake or not, his first concern was ensuring that he could put her medicinal herbs to good use for her. It wouldn't do to have a bunch of herbal remedies for indigestion when she wanted things to treat wounds, would it? So he would start by asking what she would like done with the herbs, and what she had available for him to work with. "I-i should be able to, um... Yes, I think I can make s-something with these. D-did you have anything uh... In mind?"
Whether or not Holly decided to partake of his offer, he poured himself a cup of tea and sipped at it as he awaited her answer.
Well, Holly didn't expected cake. Then again, it is always nice to have cake even if it wasn't on the agenda. Surprise cake might be among her favourite kinds of surprises. Others being surprise parties or surprise toast. Holly took the bag with her as she walked over towards the small table, sitting down and seeming to be ready to be serves by the dashing butler standing at the ready. "Tea and cake will be lovely. Thank you, Jack Junior." [break] [break]
Having been served her cake, and intending to eat it to, Holly did just that. As Jack turned towards the bag of herbs next to the girl, Holly just decided to take a bite of the sweet treat on her small plate. The girl's cheeks puffed happily as she chewed on the slightly spongy delight that tickled her taste-buds. Damn, that was some good cake. It had a good...what was the word that reviewer used again? Ah yes, mouth feel. It felt good in the mouth, not even accounting for the excellent taste. Slightly lemony, not too sweet. It also tasted very fresh. Not something you can buy and save for a few days under your bed. Did Jack bake this himself? That is so sweet! Overall, 8.5 out of 10 cake. Holly didn't compliment Jack on the cake verbally, but her entire facial expression made it clear she was almost in taste-nirvana. [break] [break]
The girl was only brought out of the meal-experience when Jack asked her a question. Being rudely awakened out of taste-nirvana, Holly needed a moment to register the question. She had cake on her mind, yes. Not medicine. After having recovered for a moment, but still clearly in her happy cake experience, Holly looked at Jack as she answered the question with a bit of confusion. "I don't need anything. These plants are a gift to you and the Green Team. Whatever you think we might need, you can make. I can always grow more with my semblance. Go wild, I would say." It is the odd reality that Holly lived in. In the bag were herbs that would have taken months to grow at the least, and for her it would take maybe two days at the most to get the same amount. Even if Holly had very specific demands, she could just give Jack a new pile of herbs before he was even finished with this one. Because of that, Holly felt little against giving this away to help support her class. If the medicine would help relieve stomach ache, that is great, if this would help recover some injuries, that is also great, if this...[break] [break]
Wait...[break] [break]
Holly seemed to have a realization. She placed down her cake saucer on the coffee table, before she took out her scroll. She looked over Qui'li's notes to see if she had accidentally brought all the necessary ingredients. The girl looked in the bag, and then to her scroll, and then back in the bag again. Hot damn. Holly looked over at Jack, before she stood up and walked over to him. She presented her scroll to Jack, on which some of Qui'li's summaries were written. On of the plants was described as being possbily made into a quite effective sedative without that many side effects or chances on addiction. Having presented Jack with her scroll, and enough time to read the notes, Holly simply and quite bluntly asked:[break] [break]
"Could you make this for me? I have a...'friend'... who is always so scared of everything that this might help them relax."[break] [break]
If was quite uncertain who Holly meant by this friend, but she didn't seem to have any malignant intentions with the way she asked it and how her expression was at the moment.

He gave a slight, awkward, smile as Holly accepted the offer of tea and cake. It always felt right to him, to offer guests something to eat and drink, even if it was just in his dorm room. He sliced a hearty portion of the lemon pound cake for the strange pinkette, and poured her a cup of fresh tea. "S-sugar and, um, c-cream?" Whatever Holly replied, he would make her tea accordingly, with the bowl of sugar cubes and the pitcher of milk, by the kettle.
He didn't quite notice the euphoric revelations Holly was having thanks to his baking skills, on account of looking over the herbs she had brought him. She had come to him with a request, and he was determined to help her, in any way he could, so his focus was entirely set on the task at hand.
Glancing up at her as he asked his questions, though, he was met with an uncomfortable silence for a moment or so, as the girl stared blankly at him, cake smeared on her face. The way she was looking at him, it was as if he had sprouted horns all of a sudden- confusion and surprise, at being ripped from her lemony heaven.
Finally, she answered, but the answer wasn't entirely the most helpful.
She had brought him quite a few herbs, and quite a big variety of them, so he wasn't really sure what to do with them- he recognized a handful, and the ones he didn't recognize, he was sure he could find in one of the many textbooks lining his bookshelves. But the problem was that even just using the ones he recognized, he could already think of a dozen herbal remedies and natural medicines he could make, but without a need for anything in particular, he wasn't sure what to do. If he made a bunch of useless medicine, then it was all for naught, as their class would be unable to see any benefit from them, and at worst, he could neglect to make something that was vitally needed, but if he didn't know what was needed, he wouldn't be able to account for that error.
It was one of those cases where too much freedom was crippling and horribly restrictive, as he sat there, nervously sipping his tea and contemplating exactly what he could do here. Not a whole lot, it looked like. Or well, too much, and by extension, not a lot.
He didn't notice Holly taking out her Scroll, being too caught up in trying to figure out where to start with all these damn herbs.
Fortunately for the hapless corvid faunus, Holly came to a new epiphany, and presented him with a useful plan of action. Oh thank the gods. "A-a um, sedative? S-sure, I could, um, y-yes, that is no p-p-problem at all." He smiled, She didn't say who it was for, nor did he ask. That wasn't really any of his business anyways, so he just went ahead and took out the herbs specified. Hmm. He scratched his head for a moment, thinking of the best way for him to prepare them, before coming to the conclusion that maybe they'd be best used if he ground them up first, making them ready to ingest, however Holly intended to use them. He stood and crossed the room to his kitchen cabinet, where he easily found his mortar and pestle, which he began to use, grinding up the required herbs into a pulp. He ground them nice and finely, for a solid few minutes, before emptying the contents into a little baggie, which he handed to the pink-haired girl. "H-here you are. Uh, I um. H-hope it's enough." He scratched the back of his neck, glancing back at the bag with the rest of the herbs. Well, he could potentially just make a bunch of things like that, first, right? That was a place to start at least. "D-do you um, n-need anything else?"

Holly didn’t take any sugar or cream in her tea, shaking her head when Jack offered the white cubes to her. Despite any ideas to the contrary, Holly wasn’t all that accustomed to adding sugar in her food. She had always drunk her tea without anything added. She didn’t have that much sugar in her food growing up. Most of the stuff was either fresh, or had salt added to preserve it. Sure, she was eating this pound-cake like her life depended on it, but she wasn’t too comfortable with having it added to meals that otherwise would have none of it. So, normal tea was fine enough. [break] [break] She didn’t really notice much of Jack’s quiet moment of indecisiveness as she at that moment was too busy with stuffing her face with cake. The moment must have felt way shorter for Holly than for Jack. Holly just thought that he was quietly deciding what to make with all the nice stuff she brought him. [break] [break] When Jack seemed to agree with her plan to make something calming first, Holly thought that Jack would at least wait a moment to drink his tea. But no, the busy bee went to work straight away! Holly noticed for the first time that Jake had a kitchen in his room. Like, how did he get a kitchen? Was this room larger than hers? It felt larger. Maybe because there were not plants everywhere? Did Jack get a larger room for his wings? So that he could stretch them out? It made sense, but it also seemed like some sort of special service. Holly could use that extra room as well for more plants. Holly merely hummed as she took her tea. Best not to bring it up. Holly still needed Jack to do his work, as well as feed her more cake. Holly remained silent as Jack took a few moment to grind up the herbs into a paste. Well, as silent as someone could be taking sips of her tea and cutting off another slice of cake for herself. [break] [break] Such mouth-watering cake…[break] [break] Sure, your tummy will hurt in the morning, but it isn’t complaining right now![break] [break] When Jack returned with the little bag, Holly nodded at her bird delivery service. Her voice was as bland as ever, but here eyes at least seemed to thank him silently. “I guess it will be enough, at least for now.”[break] [break] The moment that Jack would look at Holly’s herb-filled bag, she took about half of the paste she had in her hands from her plastic baggie, and she just put it in her mouth. Letting the flavour settle for a while, she would swallow everything she took a few moments after he asked if Holly needed anything else. “Taste a bit tangy. Not…not too bad.” Having just taken an unspecified and unquantified amount of questionable substances, Holly looked up at Jack again from her chair. She stared for a short moment, before she remembered that he had asked a question. Holly thought for a moment, still trying to get the last bits of paste of her tongue by scraping it against her teeth. “Yeah, keep an eye on me as I experience the effects of whatever I just put in my body.”[break] [break] Holly wasn’t exactly sure if she was going to use this medicine in the future, or if she only intended to give it to Ryan. Ryan was always tense, so he could use it. Holly could maybe use it to help her sleep at night. All in all, enough reason to have it made by Jack. Still, Holly wasn’t going to give Ryan something if she didn’t know the specific effects first-hand. That would just be irresponsible. You don’t give your boyfriend a weird green substance without knowing the risks! That would break the sacred trust that has been laid upon her when she became a herb-dealing girlfriend. Give good hugs and give good product.[break] [break] Realising that the drugs haven’t taken any effect yet beside making her thirsty, Holly took her teacup back in her hand as she look up at Jack. Wait! Silly Holly! You are now being very rude to Jack! Shame on you! The girl extended the baggie to Jack next, asking with her monotone voice but happy eyes: “Awfully impolite of me! Would you want some as well?”[break] [break] Sharing is caring.

Scorpion sting, I don't wanna

Jack hadn't invited Holly over with a whole lot of expectations, honestly.
He figured he'd be helping her make some medicine, and he figured he'd be having tea and cake with her, because that was his general form of hospitality when he had guests over. Tea and cake was always nice, and it was familiar.
He had not expected Holly to just... Pop half of the mixture into her mouth all of a sudden. And he choked on his tea a little as she asked him to keep an eye on her while she uh... 'experienced the effects.' This was a lot to take in, and Jack was almost certain that he was fully unprepared for any of it. "U-uh, um, I, uh.... Um, s-sure?"
He couldn't exactly let her just... Uh. 'Experience' this alone, unsupervised, after all.
This was basically his responsibility now, and he felt so many different shades of anxious about the entire situation. What would he do if she had an adverse reaction to this stuff? Or if she ended up totally delirious, and decided to do something crazy? Then it would all lead back to him, and then he would be held accountable for, for- well, for whatever it was that happened as a result of his thoughtless assistance.
The last thing he wanted was to end up kicked out of Haven because he got Holly so high on what he had assumed to just be medicinal herbs, in normal doses, that she ended up breaking into an ice cream shop or something. Or worse. What if she ran out into traffic, or jumped off the mountain?
All these thoughts raced through his mind, until suddenly a now-half-empty bag was thrust in his general direction. He blinked, staring at the offered concoction of his own design.
She was... Offering him some?!
"W-wha- I-i-i mean, w-well, um, uh, I, hmm, um, u-uh... W-w-well a-alright, if you um, i-insist? Sorry, um... O-oh wow..." This was such an unprecedented and nerve-wracking decision to inflict on him so suddenly that he lost basically any semblance of his ability to organize words into sentences. Ordinarily, he should have just flat refused to participate in this uncomfortably reckless medicinal use. Sure, it wasn't like the medicine he'd made her was against the law or anything, or especially dangerous, as far as he was aware. But it was definitely not something he was ready for.
He wasn't ready for any of this, actually.
But that sure didn't stop him from panicking and tossing a bit of the ground up mixture into his mouth and swallowing quickly.
It was a stress-induced decision, if it could be called a decision at all. He was never really good at making impromptu decisions under pressure. And now he was in the same boat as Holly, having taking an unmeasured dose of an untested homemade medicine that he only academically understood the effects of.
Worse, he was now very thirsty, but his hands, down at his sides now where Holly couldn't exactly see them unless she was trying to stare at them for some reason, were trembling way too much to pour himself another glass of tea.
This was going to be an incredibly stressful day...
