It was all set up now.Argent had started using the training rooms in earnest ever since that faithful day of the draft, managing to snag the reservation of one for himself in particular. It hadn't been too difficult, given that a vast majority of the rooms were empty at any given time, and the amount had been originally designed with far greater numbers of students in mind than were currently attending Haven now. After getting the correct permissions and being warned that said room was subject to being returned to public use in the event that numbers required it, which he had promptly agreed to, the snake Faunus had spent the better part of a day lugging in several automated baseball pitching machines and a crate of the baseballs said machines used, a task made far easier by liberal use of his Semblance and a trolley. Size matters not, he thought wryly, and grinned a small grin at the memory of the show Kishka had insisted he'd watch. One of the classics, indeed.
The reason he was here in particular, and not at one of the other training facilities that Haven offered, was that he had simply found none suitable for the purposes of training his Semblance. Kishka and Colton both had similar Semblances, but Kishka didn't focus as much on hers as she did her martial skills (though she was not to be underestimated even so, as he had found out to his detriment in many a duel) , and Colton's was far stronger, in no small part due to the strength of the wielder - but as far as he was aware, Colton didn't train it much outside of using that power to utterly annihilate anyone who went up against him in combat. Either the man did it in private, or he was just that strong since entering Haven on the first day - both were just as possible.
Power. That was something that could come later. For now, he would focus on control.
Argent hefted the knives that he'd gotten from the Broken Steel forge. They weren't particularly large or heavy - they couldn't be, since he was never the strongest of people, and too much weight would keep him from utilizing his speed to the fullest. But they were sharp and well balanced, and with the power of his Semblance behind them, those knives could be just as deadly as any high caliber sniper round - or more, depending on the situation. He'd yet to see a sniper round curve around cover and hit a target.
But today, the knives he held were filed down and blunted. They would cause nasty bruises if thrown at someone, but would never break the skin. Less of a safety measure, and more of a practical one - baseballs were very hard to crush, but easy to slice apart. With blunted edges, he could practice as long as he wanted without the risk of damaging school property unless he was distracted and a knife went off into one of the machines - which he'd done his best to prevent by using sheets of waste metal he'd gotten from the school forges to protect all but the protruding barrels from errant knives - or baseballs, if he happened to be particularly unlucky.
Control. That was the whole point of this exercise.
The snake Faunus tapped at his Scroll, giving himself a countdown of thirty seconds as he shoved it into a pocket and stepped up to begin his practice session. The room was fairly large, but the speed at which the balls were fired off would be fast enough to close the distance in the blink of an eye. It would train both his reaction time and his ability to coordinate his senses with his Semblance, which was a fairly efficient way to train, all things considered. The first two knives were held loosely in his hands, ready to throw.
Up until mid terms, two projectiles had been the normal amount that he used in combat. If he pushed himself, he could manipulate four at once, though it was hard to keep track of them all with that many at once. Today, however, he would attempt to make four his new normal, and hopefully go beyond that at some point.
The first of the machines spat out a baseball at blinding speed, and Argent's Aura flared silver. His hand blurred forward, the knife smashing into the ball in midair. Then the second fired, and the third, and the fourth, and the fifth, with increasing frequency, until the air between him and the far wall was thick with blurs of rebounding steel and baseballs being knocked aside by knives that never stopped moving. With his hand outstretched, Argent stood his ground, gritting his teeth.
