Patience is a virtue. It is also a trait that was best learned through experience. Once every blue moon there came a mission where one of the most crucial skills were one needed to bide one's time while still staying sharp. Take for example the defense of a town. Sometimes you are dashing to the rescue at the last moment, arriving just at location the moment the Grimm start to attack. Other times you are recruited days in advance, with no idea when the Grimm would eventually strike. For some people, waiting for the eventual attack is easy. They just sit back, grab a book, and just spring into action the moment they hear screaming. Sometimes that is already too late. Others cannot cope with the stress at all, making sure that they check every corner of the perimeter for every weird and distant shape they can spot. Not that great for one's health.[break] [break]
This mission was a practice-run for building that good old patience. In the Ground District stood a couple of old warehouses that were build before the war. Despite being old and rundown wooden structures, most of them were still in use by some company or other. Warehouse B4 was owned and used by Metal Miles Mining for close to 40 years now. The company was founded before the war and was one of those businesses with 'questionable morals'. While they exploited slave labor before the war without a second thought when it was still legal, the moment it became illegal they quietly gave all of their workers contracts and said that they were no working there out of their own free will. The Faunus didn't noticed much of a difference in how they were treated despite getting paid, which caused a lot of Faunus workers to leave when the Faunus Right Revolution began. The company survived despite all that, but it has been in a downward spiral ever since. This warehouse is all they have left in the city, and the two man security detail were woefully under-equipped to deal with the recent attempts at burglary.[break] [break]
It all began with the report of suspected 'suspicious activity' near one of the entrances one night, which followed the next day with the first attempted break-in. The padlock on the door was removed and one of the security guard rushed over when he heard a sound. Before he could do anything to stop or arrest the intruders, they fled back through the entrance. That seemed to scare the would-be burglars off. At least for the moment.[break] [break]
Two days later, another attempt was made to break into the building. When the intruders attempted to enter the building again from the door on the other side of the building, they were quickly discovered and approached by the same night-guard. This time however, there was a confrontation. The burglars overpowered the night-guard, knocking him unconscious. The second night-guard decided to run away and hide in the backroom to call the police. The intruders managed to steal two crates from the warehouse before Mistral Police arrived. The guards couldn't give any solid description of the intruders, and without any solid evidence or leads near the crime-scene itself, the police couldn't do much about the whole mess. Without their own security being able to handle it, and the police doing jack shit, Metal Miles Mining turned towards Huntsmen as their last resort.[break] [break]
The professional huntsmen weren't interested. The job simply didn't pay enough for the more sleazy and opportunistic huntsmen to get interested, and because it was a dull affair were no lives were saved, the more noble and idealistic professionals skipped too. In came Haven Academy and Meng Long. When a group of students accepted the mission, Meng Long volunteered to accompany the group as a supervisor. While the old woman normally didn't go out into the field anymore, a mission still in the city was not too much of a bother for her. While the mission wasn't too dangerous even without the extra help, a faculty member needed to be present as two of the students didn't yet pass their midterms.[break] [break]
Location/Mission Information:[break] [break]
Warehouse B4 was mostly comprised of a single large area that was used to store a variety of crates. The only other room was near the back and functioned as a small office with bare basic amenities. The entire building was made of wood, save for the roof which was a glass skylight. All of the wood started to creak after years without proper care and it started to smell musty-mothy-moldy inside. While the structural integrity wasn't yet on the point of collapse, individual floorboards were starting to give in. Most of the crates seemed to be labeled as old mining tools and the like, almost everything was covered with a thick layer of dust. There were three levels, counting the main floor, which were connected only through a collection of loose ladders that weren't even bolted down. Because proper lighting seemed to be out of the budget, the only light available in the main storage hall at night came from the skylight above. The office did seem to have a portable lamp that functioned adequately. Luckily, most of the students who joined were Faunus so the darkness wasn't too troublesome for them. Ryan was given a complimentary flashlight. Hooray![break] [break]
The building had a few entry points of note. At the front and back side of the building were large metal gates where the crates were delivered and picked up and delivered in the past. To the left side of each gate was a large double door that was intended to be used as a main entrance for people. On the left side of the warehouse was third door that lead to an alley in between the next building. The main and first floor didn't have windows, but on the second floor there were large wooden shutters that could be opened. In the front of the building was the main road that was broad enough to easily ride with vehicles, and behind the building was a large open space that used to be where airships could land. [break] [break]
The mission asked for the intruders to be captured, as simply scaring them off didn't seemed to have worked. The students are left free in how to approach this stakeout. If they want to stay in our outside the building is up to them. As the chance is high that the burglar cannot use their aura, appropriate force is required. Meng Long is holed up in the office, on stand-by but otherwise letting the students do their thing. She seems to be drinking tea near the only solid light-source in the building. This is the fourth day that the group has been on stakeout, and the old woman has started to play solitaire. It is late at night, 11:37 PM. The students have been on watch for over three hours now. A slight drizzle falls softly on the skylight above the warehouse.[break] [break]
The warehouse itself is quietly, with the only sound the background noise of the city in the distance. [break] [break]
