It was pitch black. [break][break]
The electricity had been out for fifteen minutes at this point, and there was no indication that power would be restored soon. The cellular and internet connection speeds were slow as hell, with lag being very common to the point of the occasional failure to send messages. There was over a meter of snow outside, and the lack of electricity meant that the heating was gone too, and the dorms were quickly getting unbearably cold unless one used aura to stave off the worst of it. While the occasional power outage was not terribly uncommon on the top of a literal mountain in the winter, this may have already been the longest power outage Haven had experienced this winter because it had gone on for fifteen minutes at this point. [break][break]
Arrats was not taking the power outage well, freaking out almost immediately and being unable to keep still ever since. When the sounds of loud beeping started being heard outside of his door in the men’s dorms, he debated over the public chat on whether he should check it out and decided to go outside a second time that night to investigate. The beeping noise had come past his door multiple times at that point, and this time he had a flashlight to carry with him to allow him to see what was in front of him. A faunus might be able to see in the dark, but a human sure as heck could not. [break][break]
The beeping noise was still present, but it seemed to be decently far away at this point. It seemed to be coming from the stairwell at the end of the hall, which was odd. The dorms were a communal living space with multiple floors, with each floor housing one gender with communal showers and bathrooms typical of a traditional college. Arrats was completely certain that the source of the beeping noise had been directly in front of his door at least twice, but his own light seemed to be the only one he could actually see. The beeping noise was moving farther away, so if he decided to pursue the source of the noise he would have to move toward the stairwell at the end of the hall. [break][break]
Because the source of the beeping was now in the stairwell, however, anyone who had opened their doors on the floor below or above could also hear a faint mechanical beeping noise as well. The fact that Arrats had also informed everyone via the public chat means that anyone looking at their scroll could also know this was happening and interfere if they so wished. They could also comfortably stay in their dorm room and ignore this adventure if they so choose, leaving Arrats to his paranoia alone to wander the dark halls of the Haven Academy dorms. [break][break]
Either way, the beeping continued unabated with no immediate signs of stopping. It was definitely still moving, but to where and for what purpose was an open question.

The anxiousness that Arrats felt was only matched by his curiosity. Repair teams rarely used beeping and rarely stayed around in his specific dorm hallway. It was curious that was certain. He debated it of course. Staying in his room may have perhaps been safe and using his aura to keep himself relatively warm may have been safer but the creeping unnatural sense of paranoia had him nervous. So he decided perhaps against his better judgment and the judgement of Brigit which perhaps partly out of some sort of selfish spite made him decided to investigate. He hated to think that that perhaps the reason he investigated was because of Brigit’s insults. He would’ve rather just been cripplingly paranoid. Regardless he’d taken his flashlight, hit it once or twice to get the light working as was traditional with the flashlight he had. They were all slightly faulty. He was glad he had it though as now he had both a utility and light source. As well as something for his semblance. A little bit of continuous light to sap away for his powers. So now he had a defensive measure. He couldn’t well bring his sword with him. It didn’t seem right especially if it was indeed a repair crew. He wouldn’t wish to scare them by aiming a rifle sword in the face of some ageing person. That might cause a death and he’d certainly be accountable for that. So he’d at least have a defensive measure. A quick flash of light and then a dash back to retrieve his weapon wouldn’t be too hard of the beeping was still around here and around here it did appear to be. The beeping noise appeared to be moving away so that meant following. He bit his lip nervously and took a deep breath to steady himself. Then he began to follow the beeping. Silently he began to walk after the beeping hoping that it was indeed a repair crew or another student rather than something that required deadly force. He couldn’t imagine Grimm slipping inside without being eviscerated by the students or the teachers, even though he’d almost never seen them he was quite sure the teachers could handle Grimm with nary a second thought. So that at least was a small measure of calming thoughts upon an otherwise troubled head. Treading silently along the dormitory hallways Arrats realised something. This place was rather cluttered. In the half light of his flashlight he noticed boxes and small trinkets littered around. A minefield in the dark he deftly avoided. It was a good thing he had his flashlight or the small box left on the front step of a room to the left of his might have given him cause for alarm. Pursing the sound was now his new mission one he’d continue until he managed to placate his thoughts of devious malcontents hiding within the darkest corridors and dark beasts keening for blood. They played with his nervous mind like a puppeteer might, pulling his strings to make him more and more nervous. Still he pushed onwards determined to find the noise (522/522)

”No no no no no no no no no…” [break][break]
The muttering came in between the obscenely loud mechanical beeping. The person that was the source of that beeping was running down the stairs and slamming against the guardrail and wall as they did so, breathing heavily and groaning in what sounded like pain in between the mechanical beeps. The pace had sped up as they went into the stairwell, from a brisk walk into what amount to a fast jog or a slow run. The noise between the smashing against the stairwell and the mechanical beeping and the increasingly loud muttering and the loud footfalls of what sounded like boots as they ran downstairs towards the girl’s floor made for quite a scene. [break][break]
Whoever or whatever that was definitely not having a good time. [break][break]
With the increased pace, those that pursued the noise would have to start running themselves or risk being left in the dust without ever seeing the source of the noise. There didn’t seem to be any light coming from the stairwell, which likely meant that whoever it was did not have any source of light on them. By the sound of it, they were a human too because a faunus would have enough night vision to not trip over themselves nearly so much. The mechanical beeping started to be interspersed with clicking, like a button was being pressed. This started slow but started to rapidly increase in speed until the clicking was faster than the mechanical beeping. [break][break]
The breathing became louder, too, to the point of being mixed with now more frequent and louder grunts and groans as the figure ran along down the stairs and into the hallway to the first floor of the dorms. If Arrats was looking for suspicious behavior, it didn’t get much more suspicious than this. Ryan Vas had also committed to joining this endeavor but was still in his room readying himself to leave at the moment so the only noises in the hallway would be the beeping and the breathing and the grunting and the sounds of someone slamming against fucking everything in the dark. The exit was on the next floor down on the girl’s dorms, so they may just be trying to leave the building. Or maybe their original goal was the first floor. [break][break]
Who knows? All Arrats knew was that there was this obscenely loud noise and person making that noise that was wildly out of place.

Words. Or rather a string of denials muttered quietly against the extremely loud beeping sounds. It was interesting. Perhaps this was no foe after all. Someone confused and injured. Slamming against the guardrails loudly. It was still possible this was something hostile and Arrats’s mind was leaning far more towards a non hostile entity but it was moving downward towards the girl’s dorms. Not that he cared location wise but if it was a hostile entity then it escaping was not a good thing. The exit of course was on the next floor down from the girl’s dorm which means that considering the increasing speed it was either attempting to escape or trying to reach that level. His mind again went back as he heard the breathing becoming louder mixing with the other sounds of grunts and groans. The clicking of course was interesting too. Perhaps whoever was here was attempting to get a flashlight or some other lighting device working as Arrats saw no light coming from the stairwell where the noises seemed to originate. Well he had to prepare something defensive in case there was indeed something hostile waiting for him as he began to advance. He allowed his hand to fall to the light of his flashlight. Slowly that light began to dim as his palm absorbed it. After a moment the light began to reappear from the flashlight but now in his palm some light was kept. Just something to blind whoever he came into contact with something to disrupt a hostile presence so he could rush for his weapon. The noise was getting further away and that wasn’t good. Arrats needed to speed up to catch this person. So pursue he did. Speeding up to rush after this noise a thought occurred to him. If he was attacked would he be able to blind the assailant? He knew that perhaps Someone would be coming after him since he posted it on the chat but if they didn’t arrive on time then...he didn’t want to think of it really. Instead he focused on chasing the noise. Rushing after it as fast as his legs can carry him. Speeding down the hallways with only a flashlight to guide him was perhaps not the most advisable move for Arrats but his paranoia and worry mixed with a sense of odd excitement. If he found it and defeated it (whatever it happened to be ) perhaps he could help with the rest of the power outages. Perhaps there he’d be rewarded. That of course was the little bit of himself that was preoccupied with himself. The other bits of Arrats that were focused on everything else ignored that bit of him. There were other things to be concerned about namely the fact that Arrats was chasing someone that could very well attack him. He only hoped it didn’t come to something like that. Or rather he only hoped that he wouldn’t be attacked. He didn’t wish to become some sort of casualty of this blackout. (504/1030)

”Aaaahhhh!” [break][break]
The smashing around finally stopped and there was an audible slam that happened due to something being dropped on the floor. Something heavy. The movement stopped, but the beeping and the clicking still remained. As Arrats came down the stairs and shone his flashlight down the hall, he’d come to see a stocky red haired man sitting down leaning against the wall groaning with both hands covering his stomach. In his right hand was a scroll that was the source of the beeping, with his thumb on the power button trying to turn it off being the clicking. [break][break]
”I need to POOP!” the teenager would exclaim, dropping his phone on the ground and placing his hands behind him on the wall to help himself up. ”Shine that light on the bathroom my dude! I can’t fucking remember where it is!” [break][break]
In the traditional college style, bathrooms were communal and there was no bathroom in any individual dorm room. There was two on each floor, one for each half of the floor with toilets and showers. There was no real differentiation between the bathroom door and a dormitory door except for the sign that said ‘bathroom’, which was understandably pretty difficult to see in the pitch black. ”My scroll started fucking up and IT WON’T TURN OFF! BATHROOM BATHROOM BATHROOM BATHROOM BAAAATHROOOOOOOOMMM!!” [break][break]
The second that Arrats would shine the light in a place that would illuminate the bathroom on this end of the girl’s dorm, the teenager would sprint there as fast as he could waddle and leave his scroll on the floor. The scroll itself would still be beeping, as though the alarm clock was still running. Because the scroll was face up. What was on the scroll, though, wasn’t a lock screen or an alarm screen or really anything of that sort. Instead, it was an outline of a bunny head with two large X’s for eyes that filled up with pink and rattled across the screen once it filled up. The background alternated between what looked like water and a moving background of skulls. It was honestly pretty odd. Scroll backgrounds were static type images, but this was animated for some reason. The teenager had tried to turn the power off, but such an action instead did absolutely nothing as did trying to adjust the volume of the damned thing. [break][break]
So Arrats got some information, but not necessarily any that made sense.

Oh. So not a threat. This student, whom Arrats had never met simply needed the bathroom. The purple haired boy would’ve chuckled if he wasn’t breathing a sigh of relief. As Arrats came down the stairs he finally found this student. He asked Arrats without introducing himself though given how desperate he seemed that was to be forgiven. The scroll was the source of the beeping and that meant that this was no intruder. That was certainly a large relief. So now Arrats had to attend to this student.
“Ah of course you must be quite confused being in the dark like this. Here, one moment.” Arrats gently moved his flashlight to showcase the bathroom at the end of the dorms. This student, whoever they were desperately needed to relive themselves. Good thing he was there then to show the way with his flashlight. “Go my friend. I’m trying to help get the power back on so if you see the issue of the lights at all do come find me. “ the student then detailed an issue with his scroll before rushing off. As he did Arrats chuckled quietly to himself. How embarrassing. He wouldn’t be caught dead doing that. Then again the stomach was a fickle mistress. It was hard to know exactly when she would strike as she did with this poor soul. Now to look over that scroll. He had to admit that he was curious. Why was it still beeping? It was quite puzzling. He looked it over only to see something distressing. A graphic of some sort of bunny head with X’s through its eyes. Disturbing to say the least. It was moving and it seemed like it was purposely put there. “This could be a hostile agent and if so...could that mean...” Arrats put the scroll down a look of panic on his face. That meant that perhaps there was a hostile agent on scene remotely disrupting the power for some unknown and certainly evil ends. The purple haired boy turned and headed back the way he came. He needed weapons now he was sure. The scroll most certainly disturbed him. Now more than eve the paranoia was seeping in. This was very bad. His mind raced. Who could be in the academy? What hostile group was inside? Were they actively hunting students? Was it just a prank? No. This seemed far too complicated for a prank. This was an insidious act and once he found his weapon he’d go back and search for the perpetrators. Even if he was at risk.
