Eleventh Mistral Regional Tournament
21 AV
Every year the Mistral Regional Tournament is conducted in Anima with the best fighters in the country between the ages of 16 and 19. The best of the best from every combat school good enough to train students well enough to pass preliminaries and foreigners looking for a chance to impress the Big Four Huntsman Academy scouts in attendance every year come together to make a damned fine exhibition of skill every year with placements to those Big Four Academies on the line.
The Eleventh Mistral Regional Tournament was considered the strongest field in years with an absolute rush of talent coming up all at the same time with many blue-chip prospects in Sanctum and Arcadia Academies that would form the foundation for the incoming classes in all four Huntsman Academies the following year. With so many future high tier hunters in attendance with devastating semblances, it was all the more surprising that the winner of the tournament was someone who didn’t use their own semblance even once. A young woman from Sanctum Academy, the top school in the kingdom, won the tournament off the back of her swordplay and ability to dodge or deflect with her shield a myriad of different semblances while closing in with remarkable speed. She had a unique style specific to Argus, one which was marked by the defensive style and penchant for playing around the weapon of the opponent rather than the opponent themselves. This led to many flashy disarms and weapon interference for tide-changing attacks.
The result of winning the Mistral Regional Tournament is nationwide fame and the pick of the litter for any Academy the winner wants. The champion gets put on cereal boxes, does television interviews, and gets the VIP treatment for several months as the most promising up and coming hunter of their year. Because of how stacked with talent the tournament was that year and the fact that one Cressida Fox won the whole thing without using her powerful but unreliable semblance Gravity once, many speculated that she was a once-in-a-generation talent once she was able to control her semblance.
