Renown Entry One.
Fourteenth Mistral Regional Tournament
24 AV
Every year the Mistral Regional Tournament is conducted in Anima with the best fighters in the country between the ages of 16 and 19. The best of the best from every combat school good enough to train students well enough to pass preliminaries and foreigners looking for a chance to impress the Big Four Huntsman Academy scouts in attendance every year come together to make a damned fine exhibition of skill every year with placements to those Big Four Academies on the line.
The Fourteenth Mistral Regional Tournament was no different, and while it lacked the exceptional international blue-chip prospects that some others boasted it was still the best of the best from all across Mistral along with some foreign wild cards coming in to try and get a taste of glory and that coveted Big Four admission. The winner of this tournament was Colton Deraine from the top-ranked Sanctum Academy, and he did so as a junior rather than a senior. Taught in the same style of sword and shield fighting as the famous winner of the Eleventh Mistral Regional Tournament Cressida Fox and aided by his powerful magnetism manipulation semblance he steamrolled through his competition throughout the tournament. Like his mentor and idol, he performed a lot of technical style with that distinctive defense and enemy weapon focus that was only really seen from Argus. And again like his mentor, he had a number of flashy disarms and weapon interference that made his opponents look like absolute amateurs.
The finals of the tournament came down to the representatives from the top two schools in the kingdom, with Colton Deraine from Sanctum representing one side and Lionel Rush from Arcadia representing the other in a fight between two melee combat specialists. It was a horrific matchup for Rush, however, because he had a prosthetic metal right arm and right leg which were abused heavily by the Sanctum representative to win one of the most one-sided finals in the history of the competition. The result of winning the Mistral Regional Tournament is nationwide fame and the pick of the litter for any Academy the winner wants. The champion gets put on cereal boxes, does television interviews, and gets the VIP treatment for several months as the most promising up and coming hunter of their year. As a result of winning the tournament, Sanctum Academy was once again cemented as the best school in the kingdom and the quick and dominant victories that Colton had accumulated made the Big Four take notice, with Haven taking the unusual step of extending an invitation to a student before their senior year as a result of the performance.
