Was it a case of regular forgetfulness, or was it just another sign that these events were more than just a ‘senior moment’?
Mrs. Long had forgotten something in the general arts and craft classroom. At least, that is where she thought it should be. This was strange occurrence in upon itself. The old woman was known to carry almost everything she needed in her long robe, basically carrying an often astonishing number of thingamajigs on her person. It was hard to forget something if almost everything you need for the day could be carried on your person. It was a leftover mentality of an earlier life. One of wandering, one of a minimalistic approach born out of necessity. If you could not carry it on you, there was little use of it in the wilderness of Remnant. Even if it weighs you down slightly, you should consider its necessity. It was a cold philosophy if taken to its extreme end. When someone extends it to include other aspects of life. People, connections, compassion. Useful for a war, useful for a bounty huntress. A mentality that Meng Long lived by for most of her life.[break] [break]

Still, there was object that Mrs. Long had forgotten. After her history class had ended late in the afternoon, she walked through Haven’s academy’s hallways towards the classroom used for the more creative talents of the students. It was there that she had given a lecture about early Mistralian art in the morning. It meant that it was the prime location to start the self-imposed scavenger hunt. The old woman greeted the few students she met in the hallways, but otherwise didn’t slowed her step for a longer chat. She had to be ready for tonight, and she needed her missing object of importance.[break] [break]
Haven Academy used to pride itself on its excellent curriculum to develop artistic endeavours in students. Mistral was said to be the capital of culture and the fine arts. A connection that was so strong that not even a possible conflict with Mantle could stop the city from celebrating it when it should have been outlawed throughout the Kingdom. Students used to be encouraged to develop some form of artistic expression. The Fall, and the Huntsman shortage in general, ensured that in recent years students’ ability to become combat-ready took precedent before anything else, with the current year being the most extreme one yet. An understandable shift born out of dire necessity. Mrs. Long wasn’t happy about it, but she could understand it. It also meant that those students who did actively threw themselves into art without that initial pushing from the faculty were precious to the old woman.[break] [break]

It was a spacious room that was used from everything from painting, to sculpting, to carpentry, to basically everything else that produced an object. The doctrine was that combining different artforms in the same room could spark inspiration for your own work. Even if you learn the theory about art, Mrs. Long liked to give the lessons with the students being surrounded by art. The only artistic classed that Long taught that weren’t in that room were musical in nature, and that was only because there wasn’t enough space for the instruments and dancing.
