[attr="class","nikki109"]January 3rd, 26AV. [break][break]
1937hrs. [break][break]
The campus looked almost peaceful, actually, in complete contrast to what was actually going on. [break][break]
The entire place was miles in every direction from the center, more up and down than forward and backward. Because of this, there was parts of campus that you couldn’t see without looking down at any given spot and places you couldn’t see without looking up. Normally nobody ever really looked up, but in the electrical blackout it made sources of light much more apparent and drew the eyes a lot more than they normally would. In this case it was fire that caused the light, which was visible even at the distance of a couple of miles. The light from the fire illuminated some of the truly immense amount of smoke coming from the fire as well, which didn’t exactly help matters. She was nearing the dorm at that point, which provided a nice and central location if she could get to it. [break][break]
The direction of the fire was to the north and up the mountain quite a way and would require either a long walk through the snow that was piled almost two meters high and the compacted ice underneath or an exhausting sprint over the paths that were mostly clear of the stuff but less direct of a path. Seeing as though the snow was far taller than the girl herself was, the solution was clear… but since she wasn’t really familiar with campus the lack of visibility also posed an issue in planning her route. [break][break]
Which made it all the more notable when something was able to be seen even above that giant wall of snow… and heard too. A series of flashing lights, and then such a strong flash of fire to the east that the heat melted a few inches of snow even as far away as Rin was and a rush of momentary heat was blown past her as fast as it came. The fire that went up was not only at least twice as high as the initial one that she saw, but also much more visibly intense to the point it might have even looked fake if viewed from a video. The fire in the distance was a full building fire of strong intensity… but this was something else entirely. It was dying down from the peak even as she saw it fade from existence, but that had to be the strongest fire she had ever seen in her life – and that included television. [break][break]
Even an ordinary person could realize that it wasn’t a natural fire, because nothing was that intense without a lot of preparation. Dozens of pounds of accelerant wouldn’t even be enough, it would take enough dust to cost the same as living in the capital for like six months to actually pull off something that strong. This wasn’t good, and there didn’t actually seem to be anyone outside at the moment. There hadn’t been a sign of anyone else anywhere on campus thus far, which was honestly kind of worrying in and of itself. [break][break]
Well, less worrying than the electrical blackout, the fire to the north, and the much more explosive fire to the east but… yeah, actually, it seemed like everything was going to shit the minute Rin stepped onto campus. Funny how that worked, just like everyone said. [break][break]
Once she reached a place near the dorms that had some of the higher snow knocked down to something more manageable it was clear where the fire was coming from – a house beside the Great Hall. Well, what was a house, probably. Now it was more of a wreck that was half disintegrated and half engulfed in such an intense fire that directly looking at it seemed to burn the retinas in your eyes.
