Combat & Inventory
Valhöll Einherjar
Semblance Type: Physical Boost
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: Valhöll Einherjar allows Jötnar to increase his durability and speed at will.
Description of Semblance: Valhöll Einherjar cloaks Jötnar in a shroud of purple lighting that crackles intermittently over his body. While it is active, Jötnar is infused with the strength and speed of many men.
Drawbacks of Semblance: Valhöll Einherjar is a simple, direct Semblance, and does not confer much in the way of additional benefits. When active, the lightning also draws the attention of the eye, putting it at odds with any attempt by Jötnar to remain hidden from direct sight.
Tyrving
Description of Weapons(s): A heavy axe that is about half as tall as Jötnar himself, with a wooden handle and steel head. A clumsily welded on receptacle allows the edge of the blade to be imbued with Dust, but other than that, there is little else to be said about the weapon. Like its wielder, Tyrving is a simple and straightforward thing, with little of the bells and whistles that adorn newer and more modern successors.

Biography
History
Much of Jotnar's history is a matter of public record. Born to a village of settlers on the borders of Mistral and Mantle, he worked as a woodsman like his father before him, alternating between hunting and logging as did many of the men surrounding him. He carried a small reputation as a ladies' man throughout his teens, but married young and had a daughter by the end of the first year of his marriage with his wife Alva (nee Asami). Seeking better futures for his family, Jotnar was among the first wave of settlers enticed to the shores of the Sanus border islands by subsidies and benefits offered by the Mistral government - and was thus there firsthand to witness the riots that sparked the start of the Great War.
His daughter and wife were injured in the fighting when settlers from Vale broke into their home, searching for a target to release their aggression upon. To protect them, Jotnar picked up the nearest thing he could find - a large cast iron wok - and proceeded to bludgeon several of the intruders to unconsciousness or death with his prodigious strength. Once his immediate vicinity was secured, Jotnar tended to his family and then had them lock themselves in the attic, before arming himself with his woodcutter's axe and wading out into the melee to try and end the fighting, one way or the other.
When the riots ended and travel was made safe once again, Jotnar brought his family and fled to Kuchinashi with several others who had united under his leadership. The group made their way towards the city over the course of months, losing a few of their number to Grimm - but by and large, the majority of them made it to safety. However, upon reaching Kuchinashi and the military garrison housed there, those men old enough to fight were conscripted into Mistral's fighting forces, though they were thankfully not sent to the frontlines, but sent to defend villages against Grimm incursions since so many of their best fighters were at the front of the war effort. With the constant fighting, Jotnar unlocked his Aura in short order, and quickly established himself as a figure of authority and the capability to rally his men in the face of insurmountable odds. In time, Command gradually took notice of his skill on the battlefield, and he was offered the chance to ensure his wife and child's safety behind Mistral's walls - which he took immediately, landing him a promotion to the officer corps and an assignment to the most dangerous parts of the war.
For the next few years, Jotnar fought in several fronts across the Great War - mostly defensive actions, but more than a few times he was the tip of the spear piercing into Vale's armies. These rarely ended well, however, and after a time Mistral's command stopped trying to get him to coordinate assaults when they had gathered better commanders for the job. These skirmishes gathered him a title - the Warden, able to rally men to the cause of protecting their people even on the most difficult of battlefields. In a particularly violent battle near the end of the war, however, Jotnar would lose his left arm to heated battle between him and a Vale warrior by the name of Ferdinand Port, along with a full quarter of his forces in a rout that was only saved by the interruption of Grimm attracted by the bloodshed. After said battle, Jotnar would spend the rest of the war in a hospital recovering from his wounds until peace was declared in 0 AV, marking the end of a decade of fighting, and was discharged from the armed forces for the injury.
Jotnar would participate in the building of Haven Academy, using his experience as a woodsman to help provide the building site with materials. He also participated as a student when the work was done, graduating a year later after unlocking his Semblance. Unwilling to stay in Mistral for long, he and his family moved again to Mantle and settled there, seeking the best education and future for his daughter Saphira. Happy to fade into obscurity, Jotnar returned to work as a woodsman while Alva started a bakery in Mantle that garnered modest success. As a Huntsman, he was one of the few who could safely venture out into woods and caves with nothing more than an axe and return safe and sound.
Come the outbreak of the Faunus War nearly two decades later, however, and Jotnar was called into action once again. While he was still possessed of strength that few others could boast of, he was no longer in his prime, and no longer coordinated actions against the Faunus, instead settling for defensive actions made against Grimm onslaughts much like he had done in the Great War, or search and rescue of survivors after the fighting had already concluded. Due to these actions, Jotnar would miss the birth of his granddaughter, and would return to Atlas never having seen the child's face since she had been born.
Much later, in early 25 AV, Jotnar was approached by Haven Academy representatives to come out of retirement and ensure the safety of Mistral by training a new generation of Huntsmen and Huntresses, being informed of the Fall and how it had taken away so much in just a single day. The aged Huntsman took a while to mull it over, balancing the choice of remaining in his family's life or trying to secure a safer future for his grandchild. In the end, he decided to do the right thing, and began packing his bags for the trip to Mistral.
