Candidate Acosta (Peasant Party): Acosta was a scientist before running for office under the banner of the Peasant Party, but his only real accomplishments are controversial ones. He was the one who cast the deciding vote to run the Rochdale mission, and also the one who broke the stalemate and decided that Haven Academy should continue to be independent and not run directly by the Council. He runs on an anti-corruption and anti-monopoly platform, promising to raise wages for the average worker and continue to push the Council to be more responsive to its people. Risks like Rochdale had to be made, the Peasant Party reasons, because to not take the risk is to leave thousands all across the country to die because the government is too scared to try. He is the incumbent, and if he loses the Peasant Party lose their only seat on the Council. The Peasant Party has been under a number of corruption investigations thus far, and public opinion of them as a whole is mixed. Their rallies are frequently broken up by the police in suspicious circumstances. |
Candidate Bruno (Confederation): Bruno is of the opinion that the Peasant Party is the reason why the mission in Rochdale took so long in the first place. Acosta voted to suspend missions to the outer villages in the wake of the bandit siege, citing concerns at home in the process. It was this deciding vote that caused Rochdale to reach the state of desperation in the first place. Under Confederation leadership, missions to the outskirts of Mistral would never be suspended again because those who live in the rural areas of the country have the same right to safety, life, and the feeling of security that those in the capital do. Trying is not good enough, because sound planning and preparation are critical into ensuring failures like Rochdale are not repeated. Bruno is a Great War veteran who served as an officer during the conflict, and has experience with administration and leadership that the incumbent Acosta sorely lacks as a coward who escaped the draft in the War. If Bruno won, it would be the first win for the Confederation in years. He is currently the favorite to win the election, and a good chunk of the public is openly in support of a return of the Confederation to the Mistral Council. Their rallies are the largest out of everyone. |
Candidate Dhaval (Patriotic People's Party): Dhaval is the only candidate under the age of 65, and at 33 is the youngest candidate by a great margin and uses that fact in debates to say that he is the voice of a new generation in Mistral. He served in the Faunus War with distinction as an officer of noble background, and is the only person running who served in that conflict. Dhaval is also the only political outsider running among the major parties, and uses his political inexperience as an argument to why he would be better suited to the job. That inexperience means he is not corrupt like the others, and can effect real change. The Peasant Party had their chance to make changed and failed, so the PPP should have their opportunity as well. His core argument is that the diffusion of power has led to a diffusion of responsibility and accountability which has led to a rot in the ability of the Mistral government to do anything. The dissolution of the Monarchy was the greatest crime of the modern era, and crippled the Kingdom of Mistral into the present day. Dhaval is running so that he can be the second member of his party on the Council, and to be one step closer to the majority they would need in order to reinstate autocracy in the Kingdom of Mistral and restore order and stability to the corrupt and ineffective country. The common perception of the Patriotic People's Party is very negative, and it is extremely hard to find a supporter in the wild. Most of their rallies are rumored to be filled with paid actors. |
Candidate Truc (Independent): Candidate Truc is an independent candidate who is running as a single-issue candidate to raise awareness to the issue of the lack of accountability for mercenaries. Huntsmen should be regulated, the logic goes, because they leave a trail of bodies in their wake and receive extreme benefits and near immunity from prosecution from the Council. The military should be rebuild, the logic goes, because if there truly is a huntsman shortage the solution is not to give teenagers with superpowers legal immunity but to raise enough of the population up to be able to defend their own land so that the huntsmen can be deployed to truly dangerous cases with real accountability for their actions. Whether or not Rochdale was well planned, the fact that teenagers were sent to the botched mission was proof enough of the ineffectiveness of the Mistral Council and proof that an overhaul of national security is required. He is not taken seriously by the media, and many argue his very presence means the barrier for entry into Council campaigns needs to be higher. |
