"Rally Up The Demons Of Your Soul"
Age Seventeen Gender Female Faction Haven Academy Tier Beginner Face Claim Holo from Spice and Wolf OOC Name Dessen |
Character Traits
Date of Birth: September 28th, 8 AV
Species: Faunus
Hometown: Kuo Kuana, Menagerie
Romantic Orientation: Heterosexual
Hair Color/Style: Orange straight style with natural cream highlights.
Eye Color: Crimson
Aura Color: Orange
Height: 157cm
Weight: 50kg
Appearance: More detailed description of what the character wears, looks like, and how they carry themselves. This section should have their body type, any notable scars or features, and really what people see when they look at your character.
Personality: On the surface Huli is a very devil may care and worry free girl who is open to anyone she sees. Although she is an intelligent girl, Huli is not amazing at reading people. As such, she'll most likely take what's said at face value. It's very easy to lie to this girl. She views everyone as an equal in her eyes, giving the benefit of the doubt in any given situation. Although in regards to humans, she can't help but feel suspicious when around them due to their treatment of the faunas. Her low class life has taught her to appreciate everything that is given and her mentor had instilled in her to never waste nor want. Though she doesn't have much in terms of worth, Huli is always willing to share what she is given or earned.
Although she is a very friendly person, she does have issues with personal boundaries. In particular, her ears and tail. If one were to touch either, Huli would consider this a gross disrespect of her person and you can be assured that this person will be on the floor faster than they can say "holy shit!"
But deep down past the kind exterior, Huli's life has brought a heavy burden to her psyche. Having to take responsibility for herself at such a young age for so long, as well as the constant plight of her race, has embedded a deep depression within Huli. She feels an encroaching pain of sadness whenever she is alone. As such, she seeks out company in an almost desperate manner to keep this depression at bay. It doesn't matter if others laugh with her or yell at her...just as long as someone will acknowledge her existence. Though she will never admit to anyone just how much she craves such kinship.
She hates how the faunas have been treated, feeling constant frustration at the ignorance of humans. Though she has the firm belief that the White Fang can find a peaceful solution. While she holds no racial animosity toward any specific humans, Huli keeps her guard up when around them.
Huli struggles constantly to keep her own inner anger at the world in check, thus she is always seen smiling as a way of rebelling against her own inner rage. In some way, she knows that she is lying to herself and fears that one day her anger will consume her. She doesn't mind hurting others, but killing is another story. It's almost as if fate wills it, but she hopes that perhaps fate can be altered.
When in combat, Huli sees it as a sort of therapy for her pent up emotions. Though she becomes scarily serious in her effort to come out on top, her emotions will begin to boil like her semblance the more she fights. If pushed to her limit, her psyche can snap and she will become overly violent in a feral fashion. Though it would take a great deal of stress to push her this far.

Combat & Inventory
Fever Pitch
Rank of Semblance: E
Semblance Type: Manipulator
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: Once Huli touches an object, she can increase it's temperature.
Description of Semblance: Upon making physical contact, Huli can cause an object's temperature to increase at a rate in which she can control. Though the temperature currently cannot exceed 400 degrees Celsius(750F) which is the average temperature of a common fire.
Due to the nature of this semblance, Huli has a built in immunity to the effects of her semblance. This means that if she were to heat up an object, it's intense temperature could not be used against her in combat.
Drawbacks of Semblance: Huli must be within melee range in order for her semblance to work and only direct physical contact can activate it.
The range of Fever Pitch when it has been activated on an object is about the length of a telephone pole, so if one were to exceed this range then the effect will wear off.
Though not a weakness of her semblance, but if Huli's tail is grabbed then she is marginally debilitated until it is released. Meaning that her body tenses up and she loses all focus, deactivating her semblance.
So long as Huli is actively using Fever Pitch, it takes a toll on her body. As with most manipulations, this drains her stamina with each use, with that drain directly proportional to the amount of objects she had manipulated, as well as the severity of the temperature being applied.
When activated, this semblance causes her ears to stand up completely straight and embers will begin to swirl around the iris of her eyes as a tell tale sign. The higher the temperature, the faster the embers spin.
Pīkāi
Rank of Weapon(s): F
Description of Weapons(s): Meaning to cleave and split open, the Pikai are a pair of orange colored gauntlets that reach up to Huli's elbow. The connecting vambraces themselves are made of a hardened leather with the strength of wood that are used to protect Huli during combat. On the upper part of the forearm for each gauntlet is a cream colored compartment which houses four 18" blades.
Using a special heat activated spring loaded mechanism, the blades can spontaneously extend from their position to become claws over the fingers. From this mounted device, the claws extend 12" from the wrist and retract from their position back into the housing unit using the same heated mechanism.
Non-Combat Abilities
Name of Non-Combat Ability: Cooking
Rank of Non-Combat Ability: F
Description of Non-Combat Ability: Years of assisting the faunas in their war effort has given Huli experience in cooking proper meals while maintaining balanced nutrition with limited resources.

Biography
History
Huli was born on September 28th, 8 AV in the city of Kuo Kuana. This was upon the island of Menagerie where the majority of Faunus would reside. It was a crowded place that was heavily community driven where the Faunus were forced to make do with their limited living space, considering that two-thirds of Menagerie happened to be a desert that was populated by dangerous wildlife. Huli was raised by her loving parents who cherished their daughter more than anything in life. However, it was not to last. When she was six years old, her Father had contracted a deadly disease. With limited medical supplies, it was only within a year that he had succumbed to the illness and passed away. Though her Mother continued to raise Huli for the next couple of months, she couldn't bear the heavy loss of her husband and subsequently committed suicide.
Huli would remember only vague images of her original parents. All she knew of them was her heritage as a fox and a wolf. When thinking of them, though, all she would ever feel was anger. So it would be pointless to dwell on such matters.
Though the Faunus were a caring community! She was taken in by a kind young man and his girlfriend Asra. Huli spent two years in ignorant happiness with the couple, learning to cook and clean while learning the responsibilities needed to develop into a fine youth. Over time, word had spread of the humans who were vying to confine the Faunus like caged animals. Droves of the people rose up to fight against the humans and among them were Huli and her family. Although she was against the violence and had no understanding of the stakes, her pseudo family felt too strongly on the matter to be dissuaded. They joined with a large group of like minded Faunus and left Menagerie, moving from place to place within the land of Mistral. Though it was called a war in the land of Remnant, their specific nomadic community sought to spread a message of peace to the humans.
One such encounter would be the last for Asra's mate. During a particular protest, he was charged with leading a small band in chanting a song of peace. When one of the humans had thrown a bottle at a younger bunny Faunus, he lashed out in anger at the human. Which was exactly what they wanted. The humans gathered around him as a mob, beating him without mercy as the Faunus looked on in horror. They could do nothing but watch as the poor Faunus man lay on the ground. Lifeless in a pool of blood. The humans let them return, calling it a message. A message to return home. It had broken Asra mentally and sent her into a drunken stupor. Anger had been escalating for the humans at an astonishing rate! All Huli heard was how evil and wicked humans were. At this time, Huli was too young to join in the revolution so she did the next best thing. She would further pursue her love of cooking and boost the morale of those around her. Everyone saw a happy, laughing little girl passing around home made meals with a skip in her step. And when that girl would come home, she would suffer the drunk beatings that Asra would deliver in her mad ravings. Everyone was too busy with the continuing revolution to be concerned with the well being of one girl. All except for one man.
During one fateful day Gokhan, the leader of their particular group, had tasked Huli with a task: deliver a package to a small town further down the road to their mayor, who happened to be a supporter of the cause. While she was gone, Gokhan confronted Asra regarding Huli's well being. He was aware of the mistreatment and proclaimed that he would be taking responsibility of Huli once she returned. Meanwhile, Huli had arrived to the town unscathed and successfully delivered her package to Gokhan's contact, but unfortunately the man's son was unaware of his sympathy toward the Faunus. Confused and obviously stinking from booze, he pulled a knife on the girl and moved to attack. Everything happened so fast and, as he brought the weapon down, the older man had stepped in and was stabbed in the gut.
As the son screamed in terror, Huli instinctively grabbed a nearby lamp and cracked the son over the head. The son continued to scream and Huli continued to slam the blunt object down until the screaming stopped. She heard noises coming, no doubt gravitating towards the scream. Huli jumped from the window and raced away from the town, carried by adrenaline and fear. By the time she had arrived back at their encampment, Huli had passed out from the shock. Her supposed murder of the mayor and his son had not gone unnoticed, however. The humans demanded the girl and while most were willing to give her up out of fear, Gokhan refused their demands. So they attempted to take her by force. The large Faunus, who was built like a bear, cast aside his peaceful stance and drew forth a simple walking stick. It took only a single swing that fractured one man's arm to cause the rabble to flee from his intimidating stature.
Though he had halted the attack, the group knew that the humans would contact the proper authorities who had no love for the Faunus. Most were now scared for their lives and wanted to go home! Thus Gokhan agreed, not wanting to force them into a dangerous situation, and began the journey back to Menagerie. Huli had been traumatized by the experience and grew to fear humans more than ever. As they journeyed home, Gokhan began spending more time with the girl. Instructing her on how to defend herself during the day while telling stories to her about the great Huntsmen and Huntresses at night. Tales of the battles during the Great War, which he put some exaggeration to for added flair. But it was these stories that sparked a desire in Huli. A desire to help others, just like the Huntresses did. She wanted to help the Faunus overcome their racial struggles. Though she didn't know how she would go about it, she was inspired none the less.
It was during one particular night when Asra had gotten drunker than usual and had snuck into Huli's tent. All of the guilt and anger over the death of her mate had poured over. She blamed Huli for the failure of their pilgrimage of peace and had come to finally end her life. The girl didn't know what to do as she looked into Asra's manic, crazed eyes. Just as she cowered, anticipating her end, she felt a surge of power coursing through her. It gave her the courage not to shrink away, but to face her attacker. She charged the woman, knocking her to the ground. To her surprise, the feeling of power transferred over and a flame ignited Asra's clothes. Within seconds, she was a ball of flame rolling around in the tent and setting all of Huli's belongings ablaze! She barely managed to make it out alive and she watched as her tent and the object of her life's torment go up in flames. Oddly enough, she felt nothing for Asra's passing as everyone rushed in to put out the fire. She felt empty and hollow as Gokhan put a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
The group had enough. They felt that Huli was cursed and they wished to abandon her. Though Gokhan refused, giving them an ultimatum: If she goes, then I go. They ultimately made the decision to continue back to Menagerie without them. Gokhan was disgusted by how easily they would abandon the girl, but now he was left with a quandary. What to do with her? Someone who not only was a Faunus in human territory, but also had an undeveloped and dangerous semblance? It was then that he had recalled an old friend from his time during the Great War who resided in a small town near the city of Mistral.
After several days of travel, walking on lesser known paths and foraging for food where they could to avoid humans, they had arrived in the small town. It was a cozy little place that had been established to escape the complicated and technological ways of the city. It was actually more of a commune than a town, in fact, considering the size of the community. It didn't take long for Gokhan to find his old wartime friend Maple Apricot. The old human was very thin in comparison to the larger Faunus, but the two squeezed one another in a tight embrace as if they were both young warriors. Apricot heartily welcomed them sanctuary and it was here that Huli began to build toward her life as a Huntress in training.
Her strong desire to become a huntress from their stories grew as she continued her training. Except now she was also learning from Apricot, who was more skilled in agility rather than Gokhan's strength. Word had reached them over time of the end of the war and the formation of the White Fang. Equality was finally being openly given to the Faunus! This gave Huli hope for the future treatment of her people as she worked every day toward her goal. Feeling that Huli was safe, Gokhan had left them out of curiosity for this White Fang organization. As she trained, she also spent time with the other residents to pursue her other passion of cooking. Her semblance came in handy with setting campfires, drying laundry, and assisting in making life a little easier for the folk. Of course she would set the occasional towel or shack on fire, but these people were far more accepting of her than anyone Huli had encountered. She grew adept in wielding daggers during practice sessions, but still felt awkward in some way. But over time, Apricot recognized the way she held the blades outward in a strange posture. Creating a makeshift glove with butter knives on the fingers, he let Huli test out the mock weapon. To her surprise, she found it to be very comfortable! The simplistic nature of the weapon felt natural to her and her training rapidly excelled afterward.
At the age of sixteen, Huli had garnered a respectable reputation in the small village with her kind demeanor and her mental health had been steadily improving. Apricot himself had awarded her dedication by personally forging a pair of gauntlets designed specifically for her. These each came equipped with finely sharpened claws that could only be used by her own semblance! Though it would seem that every chance that Huli was happy, life would give her a wake up call.
After the incident known as The Fall, bandits became increasingly bolder in their attacks upon the various regions. With no hunters to challenge them, their reign of terror quickly spread. Once such place was Apricot's village.
It happened on a day when Gokhan had been visiting. Recently returning from the city of Mistral, he had a letter for Huli inviting her to join the White Fang. He knew how much she yearned for further equality and she was eager to accept his offer. A peaceful organization that fought for the rights of the Faunus! And better yet, he had formed a partnership with Apricot. Together, the two of them had put forth their professional recommendation to Haven Academy. The school had been in need of professionals to be enrolled in the first semester of their new program since The Fall and a personal vouching from two veterans of the Great War had certainly piqued their interest. It wasn't a guarantee, but Huli had been allowed entry into the coveted Mistral Regional Tournament! Which Gokhan teased that even gaining her a slot was no easy task.
Unfortunately, this was when the bandits had struck. They couldn't be bargained with. They couldn't be reasoned with. They showed no pity or remorse as they charged wildly as a seemingly mindless horde. Though this particular place was occupied by two veterans and a huntress in training. Together the three of them fought back against the wave of ruffians and for some time they held their ground. But numbers proved too great for the trio. Huli watched with her own eyes as Gokhan, the Faunus bear man who saved her life, was overtaken and unceremoniously hacked to pieces.
Something primal dug it's way out of her psyche then and Huli lost all semblance of control. In a berserker fury, she assaulted the invading force. Though they got in several cuts and hard hits on her, she ignored the pain. Some were eviscerated while other lit up in flames as she became a lotus of death sweeping through the horde. Her rage soon got the better of the bandits and they wisely retreated, seeing that the town was not worth the losses. After the attack, Huli's anger had worn off and she had succumbed to her wounds by dropping to the ground in pain and exhaustion.
Her friend whom she had looked up to was dead and she was bed ridden with several lacerations and broken bones. But she had vowed that she would make her dream a reality for Gokhan's sake. With a smile on her face to hide the pain of the past and welcome the joy of the future. She would be up against the greatest warriors that the land of Remnant had to offer. Top graduates from combat academies who had powers she couldn't even begin to comprehend.
But Huli had a dream and nothing would stand in the way of her achieving it.

Her name literally just means fox. Foxy fox. Because I like foxes. Plus you can't say Huli without saying Hue, like the color property. So I think it's fun!
As a Faunus, Huli can see in the dark.
