A couple hours in the forest and Ume had a spring in her step. She was in her element and she had hunting to do. Not grimm but hunting all the same. She had to probe the minds of five fellow students in order to glean information from them that none had yet. A tedious chore that didn't at all test her suitability to fight grimm. She was more than capable and would only grow stronger with further training. She trained in the mountains since she was a child after all. This expectation to also be social grated her nerves. She huffed out a sigh and gave a tree a quick punch marring the surface of its bark with the scrape of her fist. It wouldn't due to get angry with so many grimm about but she couldn't help it sometimes and she hadn't lost too much control this time.
Ume paused a moment and listened closing her eyes so vision did not distract from what she did. She scanned the sounds of the forest listening for the sounds of grimm. She had lost control after all and if they sensed even that tiny blip they would come for her in a place where not much else could be felt emotion wise. Nothing, not a sound out of the ordinary. It seemed the faunus dodged any notice this time. She moved on her eyes scanning the trees for the perfect spot. She would set a perfect trap and wait a time. She was one of the first sent so she had time ahead of the others and they would all be heading inward.
After a few more minutes she found the perfect tree. A tall sturdy one with the red leaves of some found in the mountains she came from and more importantly a thick long branch jutting out at a right angle from the trunk hanging over the path and moss had grown so long it dangled over the path able to hide any rope that may be hidden. It would hold plenty of weight. Ume went to work now. She dropped her pack and started pulling out a series of pulleys. She climbed into the tree and carefully fixed one to the branch she eyed with a hand cranked drill she brought. Once she was sure it would hold she set two others along the same branch further down and set up a rope system through them. She scanned her surroundings and found a log nearby that had to weigh at least three times what she did. She ran to it and went about carefully rolling it to the base of the tree she picked. She tied to the pulley system and grabbed the other end of the rope.
She exhaled sharply and activated her semblance. Her aura became a dark miasma that consumed her and molded her form to that of a tall humanoid fox with two tails dressed in those same monk's clothes. She grabbed the rope and pulled hoisting the log into the air above the path. Once the log was hanging above she ran the rope along near to the trunk of the tree to where a carefully crafted weight trigger was set and a net. She connected the net and trigger alike. It would hold the weight of the log and nothing else. As soon as anything stepped there they'd be hoisted into the air at least 5 meters. It was perfect.
With the trap set Ume carefully covered the net in moss and leaves and tangled moss from the tree among the ropes so it was difficult to see from a distance. She cackled to herself the influence of her semblance bringing out every part of her that overjoyed at the prospect of a good prank. Ume paused a moment listening. She heard footsteps and not far off. She quickly darted into the brush beyond her trap and giggled. She called out loud enough for anyone nearby to hear. "Hello is anyone there?"

KISHKA BURZANOVA
Things had been pretty boring since she'd landed. Luckily, she had her pick of landing places, knowing where everybody worse than her had chosen to land, so avoiding those spots worked like a charm. And her landing strategy had gone off without a hitch, much to her delight- while many crash-landed through the woods, she had simply let the launcher do its job, and once she reached the peak of her launch, her umbrella guided her down like a slightly ineffective parachute. Slowed her descent enough that she landed relatively gently, and more importantly, allowed her to guide herself through the air a bit.
There was just no sense in letting herself get stuck carrying some pathetic little thing that would probably drop out of the mission as soon as she left their side. She had to be choosy about who she chose to help.
Unfortunately for her, that was probably going to be easier said than done.
The fact of the matter was, it had been two hours since she'd landed, and she was already bored out of her skull, and tired of walking around, looking for someone worth wasting her time with. The whole damn thing was ridiculous. Why should she have to do any of it? Wouldn't simple evaluation exercises have sufficed? A round of one on ones, or randomly assigned four on four fights, or at least if they were going to chuck all the students into the woods, maybe an actual objective? Hard carrying the other students wasn't going to benefit anyone, unless the faculty wanted to see how good she was at not being a fuckup.
She was so caught in her mental complaints, she didn't see the well-hidden snare trap set up a little further down the path. Honestly, even without being stuck in that mindset, she probably wouldn't have noticed it anyways. Up ahead, she heard a voice, calling out. Oh gods. And so it begins. She sighed. Nope. Not doing it.
Kishka turned to walk to the right, determined not to dignify the student's shouting with a response. Whoever it was, it didn't sound like they were in any immediate danger, so it clearly didn't concern her a bit. Nope, gonna go the other way.
Life had other plans for the purple-haired girl.
As she turned to walk away, she tripped over a root, and stumbled forward just a bit too far, before snagging her left foot in the trap.
Immediately, she was sent screaming into the air, her bag falling and spilling a few of its contents on the ground below, and her umbrella dropping down beside it, even as she desperately clutched after it. "Shit, shit, shit, shit, shiiiiiit!"
And just like that, she was stuck. A solid five meters above ground, dangling upside down, and absolutely fuming. She doubted seriously that a Grimm could've set a trap like this, so she figured it had to have been a student. And if it was a student, that student had to be nearby. So, she yelled out for them. "Hey!! Trap-setting asshole! If you're around here, get me down right the fuck now! Or I swear, when I figure out how to get out of this on my own, your ass is getting kicked upside down and sideways!"
Still. She had to admit, it was a pretty clever trap. Were it anyone else ensnared in it, she would have found it to be absolutely hilarious. But, of course, no prank queen worth her salt actually enjoyed being pranked. Her medicine was bitter, and a taste of it, she did not want.
Maybe when she got down, she could show this wannabe prankster how it's really done...

The swift sound of ropes and pulleys intermingled with screams told Ume all she needed. She cackled to herself loud enough anyone around would clearly hear. This was fucking excellent. Time wasn't wasted for her trap and now all she had to do was get some sweet sweet information out of the girl hanging above her and hope it's still good by the end of the day. She would of course ask for more than five things and wouldn't leave well enough alone at just one person of course. Her captive could easily betray her and spread the info to more than one person unless she left her hanging there. The thought crossed Ume's mind but something told her if she left another student for dead it wouldn't go over well with the faculty. It might even actually be criminal and Ume wasn't about to get herself locked up.
She worked her way toward Kishka walking with a smug hip and tail sway that just oozed pride and self certainty. She still held her semblance active peering up to Kishka in that vulpine form that surely would drive most people to think of a creature from legend or perhaps even a grimm. It was no secret Ume's semblance looked like a kitsune, a creature some monks around world revered or reviled depending on the stories. The girl planted her fists on her hips and exhaled a long plume of her dark purple miasmic aura toward Kishka like pipe-smoke. "Well well well what do we have here?" Ume chortled sparing the other girl a slight wink with that sly fox's face.
"Oh, I know, I have my first subject for this silly exam!" Ume said answering her own question before backing to sit down on the log which was used as a counter weight. She strummed at the rope creating a twang sound and giggled. "See this is all very simple. All you have to do is tell me your life's story. All of it, I don't plan on failing this stupid test because you go on telling someone everything you tell me, and I will let you go. An easy little game really I don't want to cause you aaaaaany more harm than I already have." Ume Recited in a singsongy voice crossing one leg over the other as she let her semblance go in a puff of purple smoke. Suddenly she was her normal self sitting all prim and proper despite her ragged outfit.

KISHKA BURZANOVA
Oh, hell no.
Kishka watched as the shadowy fox-like figure stepped out of the bushes, addressing her with a puff of black smoke. Not Grimm-like enough for her to mistake her for one of them, and she doubted any mythical creature would have the idea to set mechanical traps for students. And, of course, these woods were being used by the school, so that alone told her this was a student. Therefore, in spite of the impressive visage, she didn't react, apart from her continued efforts to wiggle free.
She listened, steaming with anger as the bitch rambled on and on about the ingenuity of her prank. "You really think you're hot shit for coming up with this plan? You got me because I tripped- otherwise, you'd have been waiting for hours for someone else to stumble along. I used to do the same shit with my sister, playing hide and seek as a kid, this isn't clever. It's kid shit. And if you think your threats will entice me, bitch, you're dumber than you look, and believe me, that's a hard fucking contest." She had half a mind to fling her fucking shoes at her. She could, too- they were arguably the only thing she still had on her person, this high up. She was talking an awful lot of shit for someone without a weapon, honestly. But she didn't especially give a shit- she'd get down one way or another, eventually.
"I'll play your game, though- but not because you want me to. You see, I'm generally not a very nice person, but as a Rose, I am obligated to be one. If you'd have just fucking asked me to help you, I probably would have, you stupid fuck. Instead, though, you're playing my game; I have a handful of details about my life I don't mind sharing. You ask the right question, I'll give you the right answer. Ask a wrong question? I'll lie to you through my fucking teeth. And if I don't particularly like your question, well I just won't answer it. I figure it's pretty early in the day, and I could get out of your little trap in a matter of minutes if I had to, so I can wait here all day. In the meantime, I know for a fact that we're probably the only two who landed this far out in the forest, so if you want to find another 'subject, you've got a hell of a lot of walking to do. Choice is yours. Just know, if you try to fuck me over, I won't forget it. And you will regret it."
Of course, anyone who knew Kishka would know that her plan was to lie through her teeth either way- but Ume didn't know her, and while it could still be fairly assumed that that was her plan, if Ume was so caught on her own little game, surely she would be enticed by Kishka's offer- it was a match of wits, in a way. Trying to predict what questions she would think of to tell her life story, as Ume requested, and then attempting to make heads or tails of what is, and isn't, true. A fun game, at least for Kishka, who found the prospect entirely too amusing. And of course, the fact that even strung up in the air like this, she was still bold enough to make demands. This girl had picked the wrong target.
At any rate, it was going to take her a minute or two to slowly and ideally, discretely, wiggle her boot off with her semblance, so she had time to kill.
