Description of Semblance: Opla can create and manipulate ice around him to in a range of 10-12 meters, approximately the length of a telephone pole. Making his own little winter wonderland around himself to either form ice walls or ice spikes strong enough to punch through stones. It may also be used to create objects such as steps, slides, and even weapons at a cost to Opal aura. The ice takes the form of blue ice giving its blue tented color. At the same time, Opal can not change the surrounding area's temperature but his ice dose. A small side effect means very little when used out in the open, but it can make it chilly to even freezing in a closed room. However, it doesn't do much more than that. Rank of Combat Ability: E
Category: Obstacle
Description of Combat Ability: As Opal only has his semblance for the range, he trained his speed to close the distance between him and his targets as quickly as possible. Or to run away faster than the others around him...
Primary Drive: To save lives. These three simple words have been the young man's driving point since the day his Huntsmen sister began training him. Yet, as simple as the words are, the means to make them a reality is anything but. As such, Opal became transfix on the thought that most people seem to seldom think about: If the Huntsmen are there for us, then who is there for them? This thought leads him to pass over his father's trade network work and down the path of a Huntsmen doctor.
However, he isn't a starry eye child who believes that they can change the world themselves. Still, steps must be taken before one can run, and becoming a Huntsman he believes is his first step. Using what he learned in his time at the academy to protect himself, Opal plans to travel beyond the walls to help and save people. Rather than be the sort of doctor that sits behind the walls for others to come to them. With a very long and hard life path picked for himself, Opal has sacrificed much to get where he is and knows more will be needed.
While not a main goal Opal also has a keen interest in the Grimm's. Mainly where they come from and why. This leads him to stop and study them during the few times he has ever seen them in person if the situation allows for it, of course. After all, treating the symptoms and not the cause will only get you so far in life.
Fears: While the loss of family is a great fear of the young man, his main fear is that of failure. Nothing as petty as a failed test or so superficial, but more of the failure to act. Knowing that his action could have made a difference, but instead chose to do nothing and cost someone(s) their life. He knows better than not every life can be saved as the world isn't that nice, but that doesn't mean you can't try.
-Drowning
-Sharks
-Needles(Used on himself)
Style of Self-Expression: Growing up the son of a trader, Opal has grown to be a very outgoing young man. Moreover, this has only grown over the years as his personality had to grow while the rest of him didn't. Offend being mistaken to be much younger than he really is. He has learned to roll with the punches rather than get upset. However, he does feel the need to prove to others that he isn't helpless for his size. At least when it's not something on the top shelf.
While a people person, Opal isn't afraid to strike up a conversion with people regardless of who they might be. Whether it just a hello on a walk or a short chat while waiting in line, he genuinely enjoys learning about other people. Making him the sort that everyone knows, at least to some degree. Being an open book himself as he believes he has nothing to hide from the world.
A caretaker at heart, Opal can't help but get involved with those around him when he feels things are off. A great listener, he always willing to hear others out and help however he can. Almost to a fault sometimes getting wrapped up in things he sometimes rather not deal with but knows he can't walk away from. Still, he isn't a pushover and still stands his ground when he feels taken an average or pushed too far.
Most Important Thing: Belief. While a hard pill for most to swallow, Opal does believe most people are worth saving. Willing to try anything and everything before taking life and even willing to stand against others for needless killing. As well as never giving up on those who are injured. Never willing to give up on someone until the end. Making those he fail to hit even harder than they should. To the bottom of his very soul, Opal truly wishes to save people's lives.
Born the second child to an unlikely pair that met at the tail end of the Faunus War. Unlike his sisters, Opal took after their father and was born human. Besides some awkward questions during his childhood as to why he did not have feathers like his twin, Opal grew up very happily. While not high society, the Machias was as close as one could get without taking that last step over. Making their riches off the precious gem trade, Opal grew up in a comfortable household. It was only thanks to their mother, who grew up on the poorer side, that Opal and his siblings did not grow up spoiler. Despite their father's unrelenting efforts to dot on them.
Even as a young child, Opal always had a soft heart. Occasionally brings home injured animals and, with help from his grandfather, nurse them back to health. Something he carried long into his adolescent years as he and his sisters slowly started to find their paths in life. His oldest, Unakite, taking after their mother wanting to become a Huntsmen. His twin, Sapphire, took after their father, who always had some scheme(plan) to make money during their childhood. Plans that more offend than not that the pair into trouble rather than liens in their pockets.
As his sisters found their place in life, Opal found his in the office of his grandfather. Once a medic turn physician from the Great War, Opal grandfather made his living traveling Mistral before retiring and opening a small clinic in Mistral. It was here Opal found himself most day when he could escape his sister's plans. Shadowing his grandfather around, the young boy was captive by his work. At first, he watched and read the countless books his grandfather happily shared. It was not long he was assisting with some of the easier cases showing a real talent for the practice. A talent that his grandfather forges with his years of experience.
Yet, he always felt that this was not all he wanted to do in the back of his mind. He did not want to be hidden behind Mistral walls, where many could not reach the help they needed. But to leave the walls, he needed the skills to keep himself and others alive in a world filled with Grimm’s. As he knew, he would not always have the luxury of having a safe pass with Huntsmen or guards. So, in his early teens, he approaches his parents about becoming a Huntsman to follow his dream. Of course, his parents were less than joyful to hear another child of theirs wanted to go down such a dangerous life path.
Oddly enough, it would be his elder sister who would come up with the solution. Having just graduated from her own Huntsmen training, Unakite offer to train Opal for one year. If he could keep up with his training for that time and if she approved, saying she would take him to the combat schools herself the following year. While not the outcome his parents wanted, they agreed nevertheless knowing Unakite would not slack on something that could get her little brother killed.
So, at the age of thirteen, his hellish year of training under the guidance of his sister began. While his mother had taught both him and his twins some throughout the years, he was not as ready as he thought. What he thought would have been a year of learning how to fight and kill Grimm’s turn out to be about control his aura and strength training. Only afterward did he realize what his sister had really been doing by pushing him so hard, she never thought he would give up. Instead, she trained him in the areas he was weakest in to be ready for combat school. An expiation, he was more than happy to meet.
After a long year where Opal felt like he would die, more than a few times, the day came that he wanted. With the approval from his sister Opal left to attend Sanctum Academy, promising to prove to both of his parents he could achieve his dream. After the hellish training from his sister Opal honestly expected the academy to be another nightmare but was nothing like the last year of his life. While the school was not easy in any sense of the word, he found it was not as daunting as many others had. While his sister had trained his body and aura, Opal learns to fight after finding he had a bit of skill with the sword. While Opal was never at the top of his class during his time at Sanctum, he always held his spot close to the top, dipping in and out of the top ten. Of cause Opal never stopped his study of medicine either. Using what little time, he had to either study or even volunteer at the school nurse's offices.
Finally, after four long years, Opal returned home to Mistral after graduating edger to enjoy a bit of rest. Knowing that the next step of his life would need both his mind and body in top shape. With Haven's insight, Opal was ready as he enters the practical test, almost looking forward to the small tournament he had heard about for so long. Using everything he learns from the academy and his sister Opal easily fought his way to the top, only to lose in the finals. Disappointed with his loss Opal took it as another learning experience in life and press onward. During the personality test, Opal truly shines as he answers truthfully and honestly, announcing his goals of both to become a Huntsmen and Doctor. It awfully long and hard road, but one he believed he was more than ready to take.
