The job was to find the one responsible for the kidnappings. While the results of this skirmish resulted in two potential suspects, the fruits of their labor would hinge entirely upon just how much they would get out of the two individuals. If they managed to get any information or leads on the identity of their organization or some idea of their motives, it would be a success. After the two were apprehended, the Mistral Police units began calling backup to ensure they would be transported safely, which stirred quite a bit of attention from onlookers and news media alike. Before they knew it, there were several additional Mistral Police vehicles, more police units and a couple news vehicles with reporters pouring out. The police questioning continued with Colton responding in a well-spoken manner which resembled that of a high-grade Huntsman to-be, and Niraya was treated with antidotes. The toxin was a minor paralysis powder that was amplified by Serpent's Semblance, which reduced it to a numbing agent once he was defeated and made it easy to treat. After their exchange, Qiu'li had returned to Haven with Flower, leaving Niraya and Colton to do what they wanted. As soon as she had recovered and the questioning had concluded, both the brown haired male and the faunus were flooded by lights, reporters, and microphones. Due to Colton's personality and strong presence and Niraya conveniently standing around and her identity as a faunus, they were bombarded with various questions of the events that had transpired, the identities of the ones being apprehended, their reason for being there, and some other unrelated personal questions. Several days later they found an anonymous deposit of the reward split equally into their student accounts. Despite the usual routine of reporting the results of the Request to the Requester and getting signed off by the Haven Academy Administration, it seemed like the rewards were directly sent to them. Strange... It didn't take long for word to spread of the completed job among the student body, and both Colton and Niraya's popularity shot up for some time as a result. It wouldn't take long for the clamor to die down as quickly as it sprung up, however. News media is a fickle thing, and there's always something different to report the next day or people searching for the next biggest thing. Soon life would return to normal and everyone would gradually forget about the events that had transpired. -- The office of the Mistral Police Headquarters was quite lively this time around. Phones were bustling with constantly updated reports of urgent Requests, tips, and various other responsibilities that the Police shoulder in order to uphold security and order in Mistral. The paperwork continues to pile on top of sleepless nights, but Mr. Briggs plowed through at a brisk pace. In his hand was a Scroll tablet, scanning his eyes through the news. At the top of the stories was one single article: Brave Haven Academy Students Capture Members of a Cult Involved in Missing People of Mistral? Yesterday evening a fight had broken out during a snowy night in the Wind District. Four students of Haven were completing a Missing Persons Request when they happened upon a set of mysteriously cloaked figures. Mistral Police were notified of suspicious behavior as they engaged in battle with them. Two of them were captured and possibly suspected of the recent surge of Missing Persons requests. Could this be a hot lead towards uncovering the mystery behind it? Tap to read more... Right below the headlines is a plastered image of the students Colton Deraine and Niraya Platinum in the foreground. Hm. Guess they would be minor celebrities for a short while, though the floods of comments seemed a bit more ominous than intended, with many questioning how they managed to find the two individuals, doubting their true ability as freshmen, and accusing them of planting evidence as a means of gaining early fame. In the same fashion, there were just as many praising the students for putting themselves at risk in order to solve an ongoing mystery and finally making headway into a problem that had consistently lead to cold trails and dead-ends. Heh. These hungry packs of animals always looking for the next biggest thing to hound on. To say the least, Mr. Briggs was interested in these students. What a promising future they had if they were able to go up against an unknown group of people while standing their ground on top of capturing two of them alive. A slight chuckle and a puff of smoke, he closed the tablet and stood up to stretch. Right. After the events of that night, the entire aftermath was streamed to the main HQ screen. At the same time, surveillance cameras that were placed nearby managed to catch glimpses of the area before and after the battle--since most of the encounter itself was was obscured by the snow and low-light which made it mostly useless. However, after reviewing the footage several times, they managed to capture some peculiar details. When the faunus, Niraya, stood in front of the store, there was a brief glimpse of a tall, shadowy figure with disproportionally long arms standing behind her. While it was only there for an instance, nobody had even noticed the figure at all. In addition, security footage from the bookstore had been recovered as well. It showed the owner, known through the locals as the 'Pied Piper' due to his affection for fairy tale stories and collection of such books, frantically packing his belongings before a shadowy figure forced the door opened and entered the building. At that point, the footage had skipped forward until Colton and Qiu'li's appearance, to which the owner was no longer present. Once more, the footage began to glitch and obscure most of the details once the shadow figure appeared once more between them. Regardless, with two members in captivity, they were one step closer towards solving this mystery. Who is the Crooked Man? Why is he kidnapping so many people? How have they been able to operate without being seen at least once? How did the students find these people so easily despite months of trying to search for leads themselves? It was apparent. Something, or someone had tipped them off. Someone that managed to do so while flying under the radar of the Mistral Police. Another variable in this complex mystery. Little did Mr. Briggs and the students know that their paths would cross once more; the wheel of fate had already began to turn, and it would not be the last time that they would see the book-reader and the shadow figures. |
