❝ WORDS: 1527TAG: Wolfe Nikolas Burzanov Qiu'li Argent Steele NOTES: YAY SURVIVAL HAVE YOU SEEN HER? HAVE YOU HEARD? THE WAY SHE MOVES, THERE ARE NO WORDS Her drumming was primal and raw, as it took hold of the entire battlefield, roaring over even the powerful engine of the train. As the beasts pulled in closer, Elena pinned them down, and Carmim dispatched them with relative ease. For things that were so big, they went down without much resistance, with a few bursts of her semblance's solidified air shots each. She brought down the first one, which immediately spurred her on to play even harder, and even louder- her heartbeat sang of war and victory, of the ever-present fight for humanity's survival against the creatures of Grimm, and that song was being poured out into her djembe with every beat. From the corners of her eyes, with just small turns of her head between targets, she took in her comrades. Argent in particular was a great sight to behold. It looked as if the lanky faunus was practically dancing as he fought, allowing the rhythms to wash over him and direct his assault on the Lancers. His grenades were made to fit in the groove. She grinned to herself as everything seemed to be on the up and up for the first time this entire mission. The bandits had been dealt with, and it was abundantly clear that not even a massive swarm of Lancers could stop the trainees from getting to Argus. As the fight wore on, she could feel her strength waning, but didn't stop or even slow down. Whatever happened, they would bring down these pests, one way or another. She had lost track of how many she and Elena had taken out by the time she'd killed her tenth Lancer. All she knew was that she was going to smash her way through as many as she could before she couldn't anymore. As the eleventh Lancer dropped, her aura wavered a bit, glowing faintly, and saying it's time to stop. She didn't even notice, red eyes solely on her next enemy. A quick burst from her drum tore right through it, as it too fell, like all the others before it. Only as she turned to shoot down one more did she feel her aura flash a bright shade of crimson red, before shattering completely. Her breath hitched for a moment, but her drumming never faltered, even as she became increasingly aware of how little energy she had left in her at all. Her drumming at this point wasn't nearly as useful to her personally, but turning to look at Argent, she kept it up, giving her team something to hone in on and use to pace the fight in their favor. With a quick look to Elena, she shouted over the train engine, the roaring turret, and her own furious drumming, "I do not t'ink I can shoot t'em anymore- t'e rest is all you!" She watched as Elena threw her shadows around, ripping into the last two Lancers at the front just before her own aura finally cracked and split. Seeing that the front was clear now, the small redhead flashed a big smile at the brunette. She could hardly believe it, but they just punched through over a dozen Grimm in one sitting, on abysmally low aura. Teamwork at its absolute finest. A whirring sound got her attention as she turned to face a huge stinger flying at her from far too close. She'd been so distracted, thinking her fight was over in the front, that she had forgotten about the ones on the sides of the train, and let her guard down. With her aura broken, she was wide-eyed and defenseless, a straight up sitting duck for the wasp-like beast. With a small and decisively un-Huntress-like yelp, she flinched back from the attack, her drumming pausing for a moment, as she tried to move away, to no real use. Thankfully, she saw the shield Elena had been holding flash with Colton's aura as it sailed from the Vacuan's hand back towards her, taking the stinger in her place, and sending back a nasty electric shock to take out the Grimm who had tried to attack her. She turned her head to look at the teen with a smile of gratitude. If he hadn't intervened, she would probably have been in the back of the train like Nik right now... She thought for a moment about retreating, letting the others on the car handle things from that point on. Without her semblance, she was in a lot more danger than most- effectively, just an easy target, up front, making a lot of noise. Seeing Elena with no weapon left, though, still standing there, she knew retreat was not an option. As soon as she regained her footing from the nearly-successful Lancer attack, her hands fell back onto her drum, harder and stronger than before. Sure, she couldn't provide any more offense, and unlike Eva, she didn't have any form of healing ability, even if she did have any aura left at all, but what she could do was try to keep blood boiling, hoping her drumming could inspire the few remaining. And it wasn't like she was completely useless- she had proved that to herself earlier, beating back a bandit with her drum alone, as if it were a club. So long as she and her allies were in danger, she would be perfectly content with fighting to the end, weapon or semblance be damned. She'd go tooth and nail with the Lancer swarm if she had to. Thankfully, she didn't. The fighting only went on for a little longer, as the last of the Lancers were beaten on the right side by Argent and Ruqa. Only when it seemed the coast was completely clear did she slow her drumming to a stop, and stand up straight again. She didn't move for a minute, though, just looking around, in a daze, as the fatigue from fighting for so long finally caught up to her. They did it... They really did it. The little redhead let her drum fall back into its resting position at her hip, and as the dust settled, looked to Elena, her face and scarlet hair wet with sweat, and grinned brightly. "Let's just hope t'ere isn't a round t'ree, eh? Ot'erwise we'd all be as bad off as-" Her tired brain caught up with her, as her words caught a bit and she realized she had almost forgotten about- "Nik!" She darted off promptly, down from Car 1, through 2, to Car 3, where she found her partner in the care of Qiu'li. Immediately, she ran to his side and knelt down to check on him for herself, shaking his shoulder (gently) to see if he was awake. Seemed he was not, Or at least, he didn't appear to be. She glanced over at the dark-haired man. a little concern visible on her face. "Is he going to be okay? He seems a little better..." She glanced over and saw the food she'd set out for him still sitting there. Oof. No wonder he was still out cold- he didn't eat his lunch. It was damn near impossible to make a full recovery on an empty stomach, Nik. And what was up with the glue smell? It even smelled like Nik was covered in it... Weird. Well, now that she knew Nik was okay, and that the train wasn't in any more additional danger, she sprung up, her face lit up with excitement, despite the clear exhaustion she had on it. It might have been the thrill of not dying, or maybe just the toxic fumes from the gas canisters, but she practically jumped in the air with glee, laughing freely, a light and ringing laugh. "We did it. We really, really did it..." She turned to Qiu'li and threw her arms around him in a celebratory hug, still laughing as she stepped back, raising her hands in the air. "We actually did it! We, we won! We won!!" This called for a big celebration. Something fun. They had earned at least that much... But for now, she reminded herself that they did still have the rest of the ride to Argus to worry about first. It seemed like they had made it through the danger, but there was always a chance that danger could find them again, so they had to remain vigilant. For now, though, she was just happy to be alive and in one piece. Sitting next to Nik, she drew a big hunk of delicious Atlesian brie from her food pouch, and took a huge bite of the creamy, cheesy, goodness. This was her reward to herself for making it through her first mission a little rough-for-wear, but alive and not seriously injured. She thought back to her conversation with Aegle in the cafeteria, with a smile. Her roommate had been right, of course. She was plenty scared, this whole mission, up until right now. Terrified. But that was what pushed her forward. She felt alive, because she was alive. She made a mental note to never forget that feeling. |
