The request board had been worked down to almost nothing, it seemed.
Alexandros found himself before the board, scanning up and down the scarce few tasks remaining, hand upon his hip and just a touch of boredom creeping in to ruin his day. Qiu'li was probably off somewhere in the city, toiling away at a dozen requests at once, as he had become rather well known for doing. Haven's citizen request system was peculiar -- it went without saying, really -- and always entertaining to poke through and look over, but there was no denying its usefulness all the same; the people of the city needed plenty of things done, and the academy had an abundance of do-gooders with hearts on their sleeves to offer that helping hand which the populace needed. There was the occasional 'job' which would drum up a double-take from the Skouriá boy for its absurdity, or perhaps simplicity at other times, but far too many settled into a samey sort of comfortable-nothing. Lots of deliveries, and basic support or escort tasks for people journeying out to the city limits, and... yeah, no, it really was largely straightforward stuff. At least somebody was having fun with it, he could only hope.
In the end, Alex had decided on the most interesting offer left untaken: asset requisition from a particular trader near the 'boundary' between the Cloud District and the Wind District beneath, for an assortment of Dust crystals and various supplies meant to integrate them with all sorts of equipment.
With his mental-map well defined and laid out from a life spent in the city, the boy moved out into the streets with a bundle of paperwork in hand. Conveniently, the location to collect the supplies from, Crystal Clear, was only a little while away on-foot once beyond the academy grounds, and built along a path that complimented the winding back-and-forth of the mountainside. This wasn't to say that it was easy to get to -- no part of Mistral was, really, save for the lowest parts of the Ground District and the absolute peak of the city where Haven was built -- but it was close-ish, and only a few alleyways deep, and would likely be obvious enough from the outside to cut through any need to search for a precise address amongst identical buildings. So, with a (theoretically) obvious target in mind, Alexandros made the trek out into the hustle and bustle. It wasn't long at all before the boy had found the place; a pleasant exchange of words and goods took place, the necessary paperwork was signed off, and Alexandros was left with a hefty crate of various Dust crystals separated into bundles wrapped in sturdy, crumpled-up brown paper. Not exactly what he was used to seeing, the young Skouriá had to admit, but a job done was a job done no matter how it was packaged. With his 'work' for the day done, Alex readied himself for the journey back up the mountain's path and pressed back out into Mistral with an absolute haul for the academy.
The walk back up to Haven would not be nearly as effortless as the walk down to Crystal Clear.
Now, part of it could, of course, be pinned on the giant selection of magical rocks he had entrusted himself with carrying back up to the highest point of the city, but part of it could just as equally be placed on the immediate need to help out... well, somebody. It was a young woman. Faunus, too, given the prominent horns spiralling out of the side of her head. Not somebody he knew, but somebody who looked completely and utterly lost. Alex offered a smile and a small nod of the head -- anything else would be quite hard to manage given the delivery for the school cradled in his arms -- as she wandered about, slowly and surely pulling closer to where the brawler stood in front of the door. "Hey there," Alex said, polite if unconvincing, as most small-talk seemed to be. "Those requests must be keeping you busy too, I take it."
The boy shot a quick glance down to the paper she held, briefly shifting the crate to get as much of a look as he could. To his surprise, it was a map of the city, and not any sort of paperwork as the boy had initially assumed; she was lost, alright. "You, uh," he continued, "got somewhere you need to be? I could give you some directions, if you need it; I'm Alexandros, from up at the academy."

Seeing as Mistral was going to be her home until she graduated (or...didn't, for a variety of possible reasons), Primrose had thought it only smart and responsible that she take to learning the layout of the area that surrounded Haven. After all, while all her basics needs would be met at Haven, there could be any number of reasons she might end up in the city otherwise, and learning the way through the unfamiliar territory felt as important to Prim as any number of classes.
Well, maybe not quite that important, but still worth doing nonetheless.
It was just...Vacuo had been a much simpler place, compared to Mistral. Back home, the Faunus had only been to a handful of villages in her life- Citrine had been largely self-sufficient, and no one ever left without at least three members to a party when getting new or extra supplies was necessary. Citrine itself could've fit within Memorial Park and left plenty of room to spare, and the mountain range that had protected it had plenty of easily recognizable landmarks to navigate the surrounding area. Putting it simply; Maps and large cities were never something Primrose had needed or really had the opportunity to learn to get through, at least not before.
But it was a necessary skill to learn now, so, when she had the time to spare, the girl had headed into the city and wound up in the Wind District. She'd been at it for a little while when she heard a polite sounding call from a passerby. Looking over, she saw a young man weighed down by a crate, seemingly a bit concerned for her. It wasn't exactly that she was lost- Since she'd come from Haven, tracing her way back wouldn't be an issue. But Primrose's goal wasn't to merely retrace her way back, but to properly learn to navigate Mistral. Still, if he was willing to help, she wasn't going to turn the offer down.
"Alexandros?" She repeated the name back, and gave a polite dip of the head, before elaborating on her situation. "It's nice to meet you. I am Primrose Pashmina- You may call me Prim, if you'd rather, and I'm a student at Haven, too." Her gaze flicked upwards momentarily, picturing the school at the top of the hill. "But I'm not from Mistral and back home...We didn't have much use for maps. I knew the area by heart, not..." Primrose waved her paper a bit. "Not by this. So I thought I should come and learn the environment, and get to know how to go through and around...But that isn't teaching me much about reading maps, either."

Alexandros nodded in response to Primrose repeating his name aloud. "Well, if we're doing nicknames, you can call me Alex -- whichever you prefer, I get both pretty often. It's nice to meet you, Prim. I'd offer a handshake, but, well," he said with a slight trail off, looking down to the supplies held in his arms, "it'd be a bit difficult. Anyway, I need to get this stuff back up to the school, so I'd be happy to help you out with some directions or... I don't know, tips from a local or something. We can have a chat on the way back."[break][break]
With a gesturing by way of a flick of the head, the boy not-quite-pointed out a direction for the both of them to start moving. "Maps are really good for the big-picture stuff -- and I'm not going to say they aren't helpful, or anything -- but Mistral's an oddity because of how layered-up it is while being spread out along the base of the mountains, too. A map will help you find your way out once you get low enough to the ground, and the reverse is naturally true, but for getting through the middle where the streets start winding and splitting and whatever, they aren't quite as valuable."[break][break]
Do I go over everything, or do I skip the obvious? he thought for a moment, adjusting the crate as he walked and looking out over a shoulder. Maybe the obvious isn't as obvious I think it is, if she's not from here. Maybe. Thinking it over, weighing up his options, the boy quietly cleared his throat and gave a tiny nod, ultimately deciding on nothing at all; it was better to go with the flow of the conversation than forcibly steer it one way or the other, so any sort of reaction or question would prove far more worthwhile than blind estimation ever could.[break] The young Skouriá brought himself back into the waking -- and, in this case, walking -- world, and looked up to Primrose as they moved out toward the more open streets of the lower Cloud District. Yeah, that was something he was definitely beginning to notice: damn-near everybody at Haven was taller than him. Aegle and Carmim were a touch shorter, and a scarce few others were about the same height as him, but those were exceptions to the rule which were certainly few and far between.[break] Oh well. Another member for the 'taller than the brawler' club.[break][break]
"Even I get still get lost- well, not lost, but... you know, 'off-track' every so often. It's a big place," Alexandros continued with a small smile, "but I'm sure you'll get used to it."[break] The critical detail, of course, was that Alex had 'gotten used to it' by living in Mistral for his entire life. Truth be told, the boy had no frame of reference for how difficult it could be for an outsider to navigate the city and its many intricately interconnected levels and streets, and especially so for one who had done much the same in their own life without any sort of map -- this difficulty would be doubled when one then considered the notion of not simply finding their way around, but of learning it; Alexandros had had a lifetime to pick up on each and every detail of the kingdom capital, while Prim had been dropped in completely blind.[break] "So, where exactly is 'home' for you, if you don't mind my asking?" the boy then wondered aloud, cocking his head to one side somewhat. Haven had pulled students from all across the world after the recent tragedy, and Prim was no exception by the sound of it.

A PLACE TO REFRESH HEART & MIND CAN I FIND SOME TIME IN RIVERS IN A DRY LAND

"Alex- I see. It is nice to make your acquaintance, as well." Seeing his crate, Prim gave a dip of her head, and waved her hands slightly. "No, no- I would not ask you to drop your package just for a handshake." His suggestion of a chat on the way back towards the school certainly sounded like a nice time. "It would be much appreciated, Alex."
She followed along beside him as he explained the pros and cons of the maps. The logic of what he said made plenty of sense- The middle district was the most complex of them, so it seemed, and hearing it broken down in such simple terms, Primrose felt gears turning. Perhaps looking at it all as part of the capital city was too reductive. Looking at it more like Citrine, thinking of the mountainous range as shaping the way the environment was constructed and not so much as a "extremely large village", it made more sense. They had escape and transport tunnels in the mountains, too- Looking at the winding pathways throughout the middle district of the city with the same perspective she had one those might help her in learning to navigate them better. She heard him clear his throat, and turned, looking a bit expectantly towards the young man...Only for him to seemingly decide against it, and continue their walk back in the direction of Haven. Oh, well. That was okay- Unless by some unexpected chance one of them ended up expelled, Primrose felt at least somewhat secure that given time, she'd be capable of confidentially navigating through Mistral unaccompanied or without a map.
"It is something that happens to everyone- Losing my way home over paths I'd taken many times before was something I would do occasionally at home." Primrose admitted frankly, feeling no shame in it. Of course, she could normally navigate through her arid home with ease- But, sometimes, she'd go a bit too far one way or another, and end up spending far longer than needed to return. No one was perfect. "My home is in Vacuo- It is not a place that you would know, but it is called Citrine. It is rather small...Nothing like here in Mistral. Even if everyone moved from there to here, I believe no one would notice the difference. At least, in numbers, anyways." Indeed, not knowing of Citrine was somewhat the point. It's remoteness was a burden in some ways, but had largely been what allowed the village to persist in spite of all the hardships of the territory. "It is not an easy place to live...But if for those who are willing to understand the mountains, and take only as they need, it is a safer home than most places in Vacuo can claim to be." She paused, thinking for a moment more, before feeling a need to explain herself. "Navigating the mountains there is very different from Mistral- Ours have very little plant life, and are much more jagged and sparse. We do not have too much of anything except rocks, sand and crystal, so learning the natural landmarks is very important. Here, in Mistral...Everything looks very much the same to me. Not that it is bad, but...Citrine is all but a cluster of small buildings among rock. Mistral has more houses and buildings than I could possibly count."
Saying that, the Faunus gave a curious look over to Alexandros, wondering where it was he hailed from. "Is Mistral your home, Alex? Or are you far traveled as well?"

The shadow-haired youth nodded along as the two moved, humming agreeable hums as Primrose told of her home back in Vacuo. Even with little more than words, the picture being painted was supremely vivid in Alex's mind, and one of a stark, complete contrast to his own life spent in the ever-growing metropolis of Mistral. Citrine, as she had called it, sounded much the same as many other settlements from Western Sanus sounded, an almost adventurous place teeming with natural beauty and surrounded by an air of constant energy. Not that this was a good thing, of course... no, it was far from it; Vacuo, for all that 'adventure' Alexandros had built up in his head, was perhaps the most dangerous of the four kingdoms of Remnant to live a normal life in, with safety and security coming-and-going just as wildly as the sandstorms carried on the arid wind. Primrose's Citrine was much the same from her description, though self-admitted by the faunus girl as being considerably safer than other villages.[break] Like a great number of things, Alexandros knew only of the outside world from stories. Mostly from his father, and about the battles in which he fought, but also from the more worldly citizens of Mistral and, now, from other students at the academy. The young Skouriá himself had ventured no further than the forest which encircled his home, once in a fit of anger and sorrow and once more with a keen -- and, truthfully, uncharacteristic -- determination burning in his heart; the boy simply was not knowledgeable about the ways of the greater world, for his own personal perspective was an extreme and narrow scope. Despite it all, as one may however suspect, the boy wanted more than anything to learn, and to broaden his horizons, and to feel Remnant with his own senses instead of relying on the accounts of others before him. As if she could read his mind, Primrose asked the question about his home, and the experience he desperately craved.[break][break]
Alexandros shot a grin up to the young huntress-to-be, and allowed himself to speak in simple and honest terms.[break] "Born and raised, and trained here too." he said after a brief moment of consideration, tone half proud and half defeated, "I should probably count myself lucky to have lived somewhere safe like a city, but I still want to get out there and see more of the world. Not just the big stuff either, but all the little places as well, you know? That's one of the benefits with becoming a huntsman, I suppose; though, uhm, less 'thrilling' travel would be nice, too. But hey, I'll take what I can get. If I get to go far and wide and make something of my life along the way, then that's a pretty big win in my books."[break] The boy looked away from Primrose, letting out a small chuckle as his pace slowed to a halt.[break] "Sorry; I'm rambling, aren't I?" he conceded after a moment. With a quick scan all about, Alex decided on the best direction to head with his delivery and set off once more. "Th-the higher up you are, the easier it is to get around, so- well, since Haven is right near the peaks you only need to go lower when you really have to."[break][break]
She's not clueless, he quickly and pointedly chastised himself, loosing a tiny sigh heavy with embarrassment.[break] "So, have you got a cool Semblance?" Alexandros suddenly asked, warmth returning, still mapping out a return path as he walked alongside Prim. "Everybody else's is more interesting than mine... I just heat up my arms and legs."
