"Oh, Raven, won't you sing me a happy song?"

Character Traits
Date of Birth: Dec. 15th, 7 AV
Species: Faunus (Jackdaw)
Hometown: Mistral (Second-Generation Valeian Immigrant)
Romantic Orientation: Straight
Hair Color/Style: Black, medium-length, kinda spiky, vaguely feather-like. A few white hairs, and a few grey hairs, scattered in.
Eye Color: Pale grey
Aura Color: White, speckled with black and grey spots.
Height: 188 cm / 6'2"
Weight: 62 kg / 135 lb
Appearance: The most notable thing about Jack has to be the most obvious- two large black wings sprouting from his arms and upper back, and thick with glossy black feathers, which extend beyond the wings to his forearms and wrists as well, in patches of softer down feathers, which can also be found on his lower back and legs, though they are fewer and farther in-between in those places.
Aside from his wings, and invisible to most, at a glance, his bones are thin, partially hollow, and relatively weak and fragile compared to most people. This is shown most easily in how he moves, walking delicately and with a careful precision to his movements.
Aside from his faunus traits, Jack is the spitting image of his father and namesake, the only difference being that where Pops Dawson is a hulk of a man, brimming with muscle under a layer of chef's belly, at an imposing 6'8", Junior is of a much slighter build, and half a foot shorter than his father, though by no means short, himself. Where the elder Dawson resembles a brick wall with relatively smaller wings, his son is far more birdlike, inheriting his mother's weak bones and by extension, her much slimmer figure, and minimal muscle mass.
Atop his head, is a mop of dark hair, hanging down to just past his ears, spiky and almost feather-like itself. His eyes stand out against the midnight shade of his hair, being a sterling silvery light grey. The rest of his facial features are relatively sharp and angular, lending well to the brooding facial expressions he often wore. In terms of clothing, he is usually pretty content with his Haven Academy uniform, modified to be sleeveless, to accommodate for his wings. At his mother's advice, he also wears a patch on his left shoulder, displaying a red cross, identifying him as a field medic- something she insisted on, given her own experience in the field. Outside of the Academy, though, he tends towards muted colors and simple clothing, often just a black tank top and jeans. Simple, effective, nothing more.
Personality: Jack Jr. is, above all else, a very awkward and frankly distant boy. He isn't nearly as socially adept as most people, and comes across as being exceptionally shy and quiet. He has a sharp wit, though, and a quirky sense of humor, though few get the chance to experience that, because it's just too damn hard trying to get him to open up and talk. He wasn't always this bad- he was naturally introverted, and not very sociable, but his sister's death caused him to close up even more, making him reclusive and untalkative. In fact, his job at his dad's diner is probably the only place where he actually goes about talking to anyone at all, and even that is restricted to polite service and minimal small talk.
But when he's alone, or with someone who has put in the hard work of cracking his clamshell wide open, he is a very kind, sweet, person. All he wants to do is help people, and make the world a nicer place. The real problem comes when his idealism and his realism come into conflict, as they often do- he wants to make things better, and believes everyone has the potential to be good, but he knows that the world is mean and unkind, especially to people like him. With most people, he assumes the latter before the former, and reacts to them with resigned indifference, accepting that he can't force people to change. However, those who gain his trust are rewarded with unwavering loyalty and friendship.
His biggest influences are, of course, his father, with his noble philosophy of world peace and unity, and his older sister, who taught him to never stop learning, and to never stop growing. Family means a lot to him, and he will adopt his friends into a little makeshift family of sorts, which he will then protect fiercely.

Combat & Inventory
Battlefield Angel
Rank of Semblance: D
Semblance Type: Transformation
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: A powerful boost that heightens Aura Healing by touch, Durability, and Speed, accompanied by a strong white glow, and a trail of black feathers.
Description of Semblance: After much extensive practice throughout the events of Rochdale, Jack can tap into a very powerful resource, transforming him into a force of nature in combat- his entire body glows with an almost blindingly white light, and as he moves, a trail of feather-like black mist follows beyond him. In this form, his body and mind are enhanced- he can move at speeds up to 64 km/h, and his aura is strengthened such that his skin becomes as durable as thin metal, like bronze. But the most valuable part of this semblance, is that he becomes able to heal aura by touch, allowing him to heal moderate blows to an ally's Aura. (G-D)
Drawbacks of Semblance: Of course, the most obvious limit is that this form cannot be sustained indefinitely- at best, it will last 4 posts, if it isn't broken before then. In addition, his semblance takes a toll on his body- while he can do a good deal of healing, and has increased survivability, while it is active, the moment it becomes deactivated, he gains a level of exhaustion. His healing is also touch-gated, and requires a good deal of concentration to use, meaning that he is limited to healing one person per post.
Rook and Crow
Rank of Weapon(s): F
Description of Weapons(s): Crow is a simple weapon, one carried by Pops Dawson in the Great War. A plain falchion, made of heavy steel and fit for a fighter much stronger than Junior. Rook, in his off-hand, is a plain buckler shield, emblazoned with a crude emblem of a blackbird in flight. He trained with his father a bit to learn to use them, but he is by no means especially skilled with them. He could use a lot more work on the "Combat" side of "Combat Medic."
Non-Combat Abilities
Name of Non-Combat Ability: Ballet Professional
Rank of Non-Combat Ability: C
Description of Non-Combat Ability: A passion and hobby of his since childhood, Jack has not stopped training his dance skills since enrolling at Haven. He was always considered a prodigy dancer in his old ballet schools, but now he has fully bloomed into a proper professional-level dancer, specializing in ballroom and ballet dancing, but with a solid amount of experience in most common dance forms.
Name of Non-Combat Ability: Gourmet
Rank of Non-Combat Ability: F
Description of Non-Combat Ability: What do you expect from a chef's son? Jack has a taste for the finer things in cuisine, and isn't too shabby in the kitchen himself. He can tell what ingredients went into a dish at a taste, barring some especially rare and unusual flavors.
Combat Abilities
Name of Combat Ability: Medic's Legacy (Healing: Health)
Rank of Combat Ability: E
Description of Combat Ability: His sister, being a medicinal prodigy, made sure to teach him quite a bit, practicing many of her lesson plans on him before using them at Haven. And, of course, their mother was also a very experienced medic. In addition to this, Jack has been working with Doctor Haragitanai, and studying hard every night, to improve his medical skills. Thus, he has the basic training required to field dress light to moderate wounds (G-E)
Name of Combat Ability: Black Wings (Flight)
Rank of Combat Ability: F
Description of Combat Ability: Being a frail bird faunus has its works. Namely, his wings aren't entirely vestigial- though they aren't large enough for big swooping flight, he can fly as high as the length of a small room (5-7 meters), at the cost of increased fatigue.
Name of Combat Ability: Grand Jete (Agility)
Rank of Combat Ability: D
Description of Combat Ability: It seems those years of ballet lessons have paid off in dividends. Following his Vytal Tournament performance, Jack has realized his own deep, unearthed, potential; his incredible dancing abilities translate, almost unconsciously, into an above-average ability to dodge attacks by literally dancing around them.
Name of Combat Ability: Deraine-Inspired (Martial Arts: Sword & Shield)
Rank of Combat Ability: F
Description of Combat Ability: Seeing Colton in action in Rochdale inspired Jack, prompting him to ask his (now former) Class Captain for some combat training. After a few sessions, before Colton left for his Huntsman license, Jack improved his technique to the level of a skilled amateur swordsman.

Biography
History
Life hasn't always been easy for the Dawson family.
In many ways, it still isn't. When Jack Sr.'s parents first opened their family restaurant, "Blackbird Eatery," in Vale, times were different. He was only four years old, and blissfully unaware of the racial tensions and the open hatred towards faunus in 20 BV. Times were hard. Vale wasn't the best place for them to be, but it sure beat going somewhere else- the restaurant was a safe haven for others like them, even when it was bombarded by humans who couldn't seem to understand that all the Dawson family wanted was a simple life, making good food for good people. Little Jack didn't realize until much later that the reason they kept having to move was because humans kept burning their home down. People hate what they can't understand, and the Dawsons were unique. Some faunus could pass for human. Furry ears could be hidden under a hat, a tail could be tucked into pants. Hell, even fangs could be whittled down and hidden away.
But they had wings. Large wings, of a thick black color, like midnight. To the humans, they must have seemed like demons, as bad as Grimm. And you can't hide wings- they don't fit under clothing, not without risking injury.
Things were bad, but only got worse. By the time Jack Sr. was fourteen, the Great War had begun, and now, in addition to regular threats from their human neighbors, they had all sorts of things to worry about as by-products of war. When he was old enough, the burly tower of a young man enlisted in the war effort, fighting on the side of Vale. It was there, during a skirmish in Mistral, that he met his future wife, Maggie. She was a field medic, and when he was presumed dead behind enemy lines, she was the one who treated him and saved his life. He was unable to continue fighting, on account of his injuries, but it wasn't safe for him to return home either, due to the war going on. Therefore, before he could be moved from the medical camp to a prisoner-of-war facility, Maggie helped him to escape, putting him up in the spare room of her own house.
He had intended to leave as soon as he was able, but things changed. He fell in love, and in an attempt to make up for burdening her by being there, he set up a little shop, turning war rations into incredible food, the way his father had taught him. It was there, in the little apartment on Love Street and Fifth Avenue in the Ground District, that his diner found its humble beginnings. Maggie remained with the Mistral war effort for a few more years, but when their daughter, Merla, was born, she retired to the Love Street Bistro, to be with her new family.
Both being faunus, when the war ended, they were pressured to move to Menagerie, but Jack Sr., determined to keep the life he had forged for himself in Mistral, refused to go, and the two of them decided to weather the storm. Their little girl grew up in a world ravaged by the recent Great War, and for all the talk of equality among men, there was still nothing for their people. Nothing but a halfway attempt at corralling them into one tiny island.
A few years later, and their son, Jack Jr., was born. Junior's world was not the same one Merla had grown up in, nor the one his dad, who'd begun to be affectionately called "Pops" by those who knew him, had grown up in, nor even the world of his grandpa. Remnant was changing fast, and by the time he was old enough to really perceive the world around him, tensions between humans and faunus were higher than ever.
Everything came to a big clash in 17 AV, when the faunus war began, and it was everything his family could do not to be swept away entirely in the aftermath. His sister, 19 at that time, had been learning to be a doctor, and had recently entered into Haven's Huntsman Academy, only two years prior. Thus, it only made sense that she set out to aid in the war effort, making a name for herself as a gifted combat medic. By the time the war ended in 20 AV, things were getting better for the faunus, and his father's little diner was one of the hotbeds of human-faunus interaction. Pops had seen firsthand what war did to people, and he firmly believed in the strength of unity, and his restaurant was bringing together people of both races, under a banner of good food and friendship. Something that sounded silly and dumb in times of strife, but something valuable nonetheless. These philosophies did a lot to shape his son's young mind, as he began working at the diner, waiting and busing tables, now that his sister was too busy with her new job as Haven Academy's new Doctor.
He looked up to her a lot, and her promotion was something that had excited him quite a bit. He wanted to know everything she was doing, and she was perfectly content to teach her little brother what she knew. She was his hero. As he went through his life, going to school and facing the ugly truths of a world still filled with horrible people, he looked to her as his model for how to handle things like bullies, difficult studies, and adversity.
And in 24 AV, the Fall took everything away from him.
When the news first broke, everyone was in shock. He and his parents listened fearfully for any news, hoping against hope that Merla hadn't been aboard the airship. Unfortunately for them, when the death toll was counted up, her body was found among the dead. Junior was devastated. He became even more withdrawn, refused to do anything aside from his work at the restaurant. He couldn't bring himself to attend the funeral. And it took him a whole year before he could go on to visit the memorial.
There, sitting in the park, he realized, teary-eyed what he knew he had to do. He had been working hard to follow his sister's footsteps, and now, more than ever, he had the resolve to do just that. He talked to his dad, who at first was adamantly against the idea. He'd just lost his little girl to Haven Academy. And over the course of his life, he'd seen many loved ones fall to war, bandits, and Grimm. He wanted his son safe, and out of harm's way. But, he also knew that he couldn't stop him- he was determined to go, and so, eventually, he gave in. He trained the boy as best as he could with a blade, and his mother made sure his medical skills were good to go.
And, when he was finally ready, he applied at Haven Academy. And despite everything, despite his frailty, despite his lack of combat experience, he was accepted, primarily on the merits of his unique skillset, and the legacy of his sister. It was late in the semester, by the time his application was processed completely, and his placement tests were completed, but he had gotten in. He was finally there.
On the path to being a Huntsman, and a doctor.
