Seiya Estelle Sune
"This is so beneath me."
Age 20. Gender Female. Faction Haven Academy. Tier Beginner. Face Claim Jeanne d'Arc Alter, Fate series. OOC Name Dan. |
Character Traits
Date of Birth: 8th of August, 5 AV.
Species: Human.
Hometown: Atlas.
Romantic Orientation: Ah, that would require social interaction...
Hair Color/Style: Greyish silver cut through with a hint of warmer straw, wavy and to roughly halfway down the neck.
Eye Color: Vibrant yellow-gold.
Aura Color: Very dim grey-white; effectively colourless.
Height: 181 cm.
Weight: 68 kg.
Appearance: Standing quite tall for a girl and a touch more 'softly' built when in the presence of her contemporaries, Seiya quite simply does not possess the imposing or confident figure of a warrior; her typical stance or form in life is one of relaxed detachment and defeated obligation, carrying only the faintest traces of a desire to do something great. Silvery hair and golden eyes, haunted by the coming-and-going of bags just underneath, strike out against a pale and plain canvas of a face which wears a default expression best described as boredom laced with annoyance. This trend continues in a tendency to slouch and lean when resting during any sort of downtime, or stand with arms folded when made to seem alert. Perhaps the only hint that the young woman holds any sort of natural affinity to the intense activity required of a huntress is the incredibly slight impression of musculature in her legs, owing itself to Seiya's constant running from her years-long training in Atlas; it should be stressed, however, that it is truly and only slight, as the tiredness and stress brought on from her bizarre role as a tester of experimental weapons has done much to mask its presence.
Most intriguing of all is the dark blue-grey curved box which juts out from the nape of her neck, approximately an inch-and-a-half tall and some 4 inches across. Known officially and technically as the "PCF-AtX/NCM", but better known by its full title of the "Neural Command Module" or by its codename "Stella", the NCM is an implant which interfaces directly with Seiya's spinal column and brainstem in conjunction with her still-developing Aura to grant an artificial Semblance. Powered by a combination of solar cell, Dust, and spiritual energy, the NCM necessitates a relatively short and 'functional' hairstyle to allow sunlight to keep it readily charged. Seiya occasionally wears a black scarf to conceal the NCM, but makes no real effort to hide its existence; it's no secret that the Atlesian was a transfer under strange circumstances, and it is less of a secret still when one considers the electronic marvel is rather plainly on display to the world by design.
Personality: Seiya is, perhaps more than anything else, gloomy. A foul mouth and even fouler temper come together like a perfect storm of self-absorbed indifference.
Of course, none of this is to say that Seiya dislikes people; she simply does not have the patience nor social energy required to deal with them. Chronic insomnia grants the would-be huntress little (or, sometimes, no) sleep, made all the worse by the uncomfortable implant embedded in the nape of her neck. Tiredness looms and lingers, following the young woman throughout each and every day and making much of her regular studies and training far more complex than it need be. With time, this general irritation stemming from a lack of decent rest developed into the mindset of a perfectionist, powering through all physiological limitations in a desire to accept nothing less than the absolute best when it comes to results. Conceited and just a little bit standoffish, armed with dry disinterest and curses in place of a cutting and quick-thinking wit.
It's not all antisocial negativity, however. While outwardly cold and unamused with regard to the details of the lives of others, Seiya is not malicious or destructive. Explicit kindness or compassion are certainly rare occurrences for the young woman, who has instead 'replaced' such emotional connections with a sense of professional admiration. Though her friends would be best described as few and far between -- should such friends even exist -- they /are/ still friends, and Seiya /does/ still care for them. Fiercely protective, likely stemming from the same halfhearted superiority complex which deems so many people as being firmly and perpetually beneath her, this protective quality persists all the same, serving as much of the driving force behind her pursuit of knowledge in the discipline of a huntress. A dedication to her own ideals and a desire to grow strong thanks to her surgery pushes Seiya onward through the morose fatigue which otherwise so greatly defines her.

Combat & Inventory
Psychofield
Rank of Semblance: D.
Semblance Type: Manipulator.
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: Psychofield is a manipulator-type Semblance which grants ranged omnidirectional control over a set of matching neurologically-linked weapons.
Description of Semblance: Mechanically, the Psychofield grants Seiya precision remote control and operation over two weapons dubbed Layla and Elma, requiring a touch/near-field activation before working.
Thanks to an experimental neural implant, the otherwise unremarkable daughter of Doctor Ciaran Sune, Seiya, was given the gift of an artificial Semblance. The Pyschofield is an approximation of a typical manipulator-type skillset, granting distant control over two weapons dubbed the PCF-AtX01/1 "Layla" [PSYCHOFIELD-Atlas Prototype ver.] and PCF-AtX01/2 "Elma" [PSYCHOFIELD-Atlas Prototype ver.], known more simply as Layla and Elma. The Psychofield is also, however, atypical in one very large way: it is not natural, and instead relies on the harmony of technology and a poorly-understood Aura to function.
While extensive testing was performed to determine the theoretical upper-limits of the Psychofield and its associated technology, the system currently operates in a reduced fashion with an effective range of control of up to eighteen metres (the length of a semi-truck). As training and real-life combat scenario data are fed into the NCM and back to the technicians in Atlas, these limits will be increased -- but until then, Seiya's role as long-range support is constrained to a eighteen-metre-long leash; both Psychoarm Units can be controlled independently within this bubble, moving back and forth and all around as required.
Drawbacks of Semblance: The Psychofield is entirely artificial, wrought of technology and not of the soul. Should Layla or Elmas's corresponding Psychotracer Bit lose their connections by any means, the associated funnel-sword will immediately cease operation of its GDCS (Gravity Dust Control System) and automatically revert to its unopened and largely inoperable form. Seiya's Aura plays absolutely no part in the operation of the Psychofield beyond general physical fitness and health, rendering it incapable of being boosted in the same way a vast number of Semblances can theoretically be. A constant feedback of information pings back to the huntress whenever her 'Semblance' is in use, with usage approaching the operational limits of range having the rather undesirable effect of overloading the mind of its user. In a best case scenario this is simply uncomfortable and easily reversed, while at its worst can cause the young huntress to blackout or suffer episodes of severe and prolonged pain. Indeed, while the Psychofield -- and Layla and Elma with it -- offer a tremendous deal of combat effectiveness, the experimental nature of the systems at play requires constant retuning and the accrual of relevant data to enhance its potential.
Model Zero-One, Types One and Two; Layla and Elma
Rank of Weapon(s): F
Description of Weapons(s): PCF-AtX01/1 "Layla" [PSYCHOFIELD-Atlas Prototype ver.] and PCF-AtX01/2 "Elma" [PSYCHOFIELD-Atlas Prototype ver.] are a set of near-identical swords powered by experimental Dust injection and distribution systems, operable both manually by hand and remotely through the combination of Seiya's Psychofield and Psychotracer Bits. Powered by 'Psychodust' and future-proof to accept common crystals by way of expansion magazines inserted through a tab in the guard section, Layla and Elma rely heavily on humanity's greatest discovery.
Upon achieving a sustainable connection with their associated Psychotracer Bits, Layla and Elma 'open' into their standard melee form with telescopic blades extending and crossguards turning up to a wide angle. This mode for the two Psychoarm funnel-swords is intended primarily as a backup or for use in enclosed spaces where the GDCS (Gravity Dust Control System) would be seen as unwieldy or dangerous; in melee form, both Layla and Elma are generally well-balanced with a very minor skew toward the hilt, with broad and tapering blades on an uncharacteristically hexagonal cross-section, superficially similar in form and length to an Oakeshott Type XIV sword. Whether manually or remotely, each funnel-sword is then capable of morphing further into a long-ranged form by separating down the length of the blade; when this action is performed manually, no further changes occur, but when performed through the Psychofield both Layla and Elma separate further until both weapons only vaguely resemble a sword.
Due to being military prototypes, Layla and Elma are perfectly machined monochrome constructs. Layla sports an ever-so-slightly darker blade, while Elma has a brighter finish overall.
Non-Combat Abilities
Name of Non-Combat Ability: Wealth.
Rank of Non-Combat Ability: F.
Description of Non-Combat Ability: In part due to her semi-prestigious family and to her critical importance in the testing of all PCF-AtX systems, Seiya is a very well-off young woman. While it is nowhere near the level of riches that even a low-tier noble house or successful Dust refinery and development centre, her 'allowance' is fairly substantial all the same.
Name of Non-Combat Ability: Musically Gifted.
Rank of Non-Combat Ability: F.
Description of Non-Combat Ability: Seiya plays quite the number of instruments in her free time, with her favourite being the piano. Of course, her arrival at Haven necessitated much of her musical arsenal stay back at home in Atlas; these days she plays the guitar and harmonica, and not much more.
Combat Abilities
Name of Combat Ability: Targeting Compensators (Marksmanship).
Rank of Combat Ability: F.
Description of Combat Ability: By using the Gravity Dust Control System contained within both of her weapons, Seiya can completely stabilize and line-up shots both through the Psychofield and in-hand. Without the targeting compensators, however, she's still a decent shot; a trained eye is a requirement to use the Psychofield to its fullest potential, which has had the side-effect of teaching the prospective huntress to shoot.
Name of Combat Ability: Psychoswordplay (Semblance-Enabled Martial Arts).
Rank of Combat Ability: F.
Description of Combat Ability: Thanks to the Psychofield and the control it grants over Layla and Elma, Seiya is able to finely cut and thrust at any point, at any angle, within the range constraints of her 'Semblance'. Should wireless communication be broken or the Psychofield completely disabled, this unique style of fencing becomes non-existent; Layla and Elma will not operate at all, leaving Seiya to awkwardly make the dance of steel with her body and nothing more. Suffice it to say that without the aid of the Psychofield, Seiya's martial prowess and precision are greatly reduced.
Name of Combat Ability: Rapid Reposition (Speed).
Rank of Combat Ability: F.
Description of Combat Ability: To account for a lack of sheer stopping power when at closer ranges, mobility is everything. Seiya moves quickly and frequently, with Layla and Elma being pushed and pulled as she goes. Movement on the battlefield naturally extends to movement of the Psychoarms, after all, and any movement which creates distance is movement which will keep her alive.
Name of Combat Ability: Red Comet (Semblance-Enabled Agility).
Rank of Combat Ability: F.
Description of Combat Ability: Far from an intended use of the expensive equipment supplied to her, Seiya is able to use Layla and Elma to assist in evasive manoeuvres thanks to her artificial Semblance. By physically pulling herself around in an elaborate yet keenly controlled way thanks to her training, it is possible for the young Atlesian to slip and weave past oncoming threats. Much like her close-quarters capabilities, effective use of the technique relies on her Aura to power the Psychofield.

Biography
History
The story of Seiya Estelle Sune begins not with the would-be huntress herself, but with her mother and father, and their place as cogs in the great Atlesian war-machine known most commonly as 'the future' to the frozen kingdom.
Formed in the year 6 BV, the Pegasus Foundation was a splinter of the Atlesian military's research and development divisions, tasked with the necessary theory-crafting to lead to the creation of super-weapons; its initial efforts were impressive, looking mostly at the potential combination and/or alteration of Dust crystals, but this would only be the beginning of a much greater story; at the conclusion of the war, when a lone man wrote history with sword and sceptre, the Pegasus Foundation immediately shifted all work toward the goal of creating a system capable of granting the perfect combatant perfect control over a perfect weapon. Dubbed the Royal Will Project, the Pegasus Foundation gave itself a goal and a timeframe of twenty years to make their flawless living weapon a reality, and set-out to work diligently.
Though not the head of the project, Doctors Ciaran Sune and Ash Faris were responsible for a large portion of the analysis and research into the nature of Aura and of Semblance after joining the Pegasus Foundation in the year 1 AV. Ciaran and Ash were likeminded individuals, and a friendship rather quickly found itself forging between them; the two promptly and almost predictably fell in love, and, after marrying in early 4 AV gave birth to a daughter, Seiya Sune, in the August of 5 AV. Work continued for the two doctors for a great many years, though eventually slowed to a much more manageable pace by 9 AV; Aura was fully-understood now, and the intricacies of a Semblance were no longer an arcane and unknowable force granted from on-high. Ciaran and Ash were in a position to truly and lovingly raise their daughter, and would do so in the heart of the kingdom. Growing up in Atlas, with parents regularly alternating their time between family life and work, Seiya was exposed to the military and to the academy at a young age, and the two in tandem instilled a great sense of wonder and desire into the little girl. More than anything, Seiya wanted to be a huntress; to be cool, and strong, and heralded by the common people as a hero was all that she decided she wanted in life.
Life, rather unfairly, disagreed with the assessment. Seiya possessed no Semblance, and it was unclear whether her Aura would ever truly 'unlock' and blossom to the levels demanded of a huntress.
Life, however, like so many other primal forces in the world, was simply another thing for humanity to bend and break; the Pegasus Foundation knew all too well the best way to cheat destiny, for it had made such a feat its one and only mission.
By 17 AV, the Pegasus Foundation had completed all necessary preparations to enter the second phase of the Royal Will Project; invasive surgery, inserting an implant to interface with a patient's spinal column brainstem -- and their natural reserve of Aura with it -- which would then accept further modules to control specific items and equipment. The Psychofield, as it came to be known, was an artificial approximation of a Semblance which may be used by a huntsman or huntress in the field, and would Seiya's one chance at achieving the skillset and potential required to pass the enrolment process at a major combat school or one of the big four academies across Remnant. The Psychofield, the fruit borne of the Royal Will Project, was the life's work of Ciaran and Ash Sune, and its existence was no secret to a girl of now twelve years. The Pegasus Foundation would need opportunities to test the experimental system, and so requested in half-secrecy for able-bodied applicants willing to put their lives on the line and surrender their future to science, and to the possibility of progress it offered. Plans had been made to conduct testing on someone who already held a Semblance, a soldier with combat experience but little-to-no Aura control, and an ordinary person; plans could change, however, and word had spread that the charming young daughter of the two good doctors expressed some misguided desire to go under the knife for the sake of fantasy.
Atlas, for all its greatness, was never known for civility or compassion.
The Pegasus Foundation, for all its sated curiosity, could never deny the value a still-developing youth would offer their research.
Ciaran and Ash, for all their insistence, would never find a way to stop the operation from occurring.
Seiya, for all her insistence, welcomed it -- 'the future' -- with open arms.
In the end, the Pegasus Foundation had four subjects on which to conduct their research: Nero Atkinson, a huntsman graduate from Atlas Academy, physically fit and already possessing a Semblance; Adeline Drake, an ordinary civilian volunteer selected through a long process of potential applicants; Loretta Hargrave, veteran of the Great War with an affinity for martial disciplines; and, lastly, Seiya Sune, daughter of Ciaran Sune, a young girl of only twelve years. It was this fourth and final contender which gave cause for greatest concern, but far more depraved things had been done in the past... when one looked at it, Seiya was worthwhile data, for she was a still-growing body with a mind yet untainted by the hardships of a long and sad life; Seiya was willing, as were they all, so the initial surgery required would go ahead despite whispers and breakdowns and regrets.
The surgery was complex.
Oh, it was effective, certainly, and ultimately worth it for the sake of Atlas and the Pegasus Foundation, but complex all the same; complex, and dangerous, and with well-understood consequences.
To play with lives was to play god. Anybody could tell you that.
The mortal mind is a fragile machine, and the task of forcing it to integrate and 'play nice' with a highly advanced experimental system was no easy feat. The Royal Will Project -- the Psychofield -- had been in development since the day the King of Vale put an end to the Great War, and its moment of truth was here. The mortal mind, as with the mortal body and the spirit housed within, as the Pegasus Foundation would come to find, was a fiercely resilient thing; with no less than forty experts present for the ordeal, the brave few were made one with the core of the Neural Command Modules which would decide the success of nearly two decades' work...
The Royal Will Project;
Test Subject: ATKINSON, Nero.
Outcome: Success, vital signals stable.
Test Subject: DRAKE, Adeline.
Outcome: Failure, brain death observed during operation.
Test Subject: HARGRAVE, Loretta.
Outcome: Success, vital signals unstable and further monitoring required.
Test Subject: SUNE, Seiya.
Outcome: Success, vital signals stable.
Nero Atkinson took to the NCM implant like a duck to water, the fully-fledged huntsman awakening from three days of surgery after only a day of rest. The young man was awake and alert, and ready to wait for the bonding process to continue between the technology and his body. For publicity, Nero was the greatest success the Pegasus Foundation could have asked for. For their own internal reasons, however, a much more fascinating soul lay in a deep slumber, an unharmed uncertainty by the name of Seiya Sune.
After three days of continuous operation, and an additional two-and-a-half of deep rest, Seiya came back to the waking world. This was not say that she was the same healthy girl she was before five days of darkness; indeed, she was alive, and this was enough for the Pegasus Foundation to consider the dubiously ethical endeavour a moment for celebration, as a truly crowning achievement made under the guidance of an elite and select few, with the knowledge and the capability to bring greatness to those worthy of its power; an artificial Semblance, fit for enhancing the skillset of any solider or hunter, unrestrained by the limitations of mere flesh and blood. Seiya now held dear this promise of potential, and with her dream of becoming a huntress closer now than ever, the girl swiftly recovered and adjusted to the technology embedded in her neck with, seemingly, no cause for concern. Within two months, Seiya was considered to be at a level suitable enough to begin the neurological-linking process with the Psychoarm Units, while Nero required additional time for his body to adapt to the NCM implant. Regrettably -- though perhaps not unexpectedly -- Loretta Hargrave did not recover from a comatose state entered in the advent of the surgery, and was pronounced clinically dead before either Nero or Seiya had been released to conduct testing and training. PCF-AtX01/1 and PCF-AtX01/2 were chosen to be linked to the girl's 'Semblance' in place of any of the other still-developing Psychoarm Units; models Zero-One, types One and Two would be codenamed "Layla" and "Elma" at the request of Seiya herself, and eternally linked as combat-ready extensions of her very soul.
Seiya's training continued until the beginning of the year 25 AV, during which time her Psychofield and its weapons had been adjusted and calibrated to a controllable level well-below their theoretical maximum yet where performance was at its most unhindered by such limitations, operable by the now nineteen-years-old Miss Sune as effortlessly as a part of her natural-born body. Armed with her unique and deadly weapons, and supported by the Psychofield, Seiya made an application to Atlas Academy.
She was rejected.
It was to be expected, of course. Atlas could not rightfully accept a student so deeply attached to the goings-on of the Pegasus Foundation and their Royal Will Project for myriad reasons and fears, with perhaps the accusations of needless collusion or preferential treatment which would come from her acceptance being enough to sully the good name of the school irreparably. Thus, a compromise was reached: Haven Academy, suffering a tremendous loss of life after a terrible airship crash, would take in Seiya as one of their own, and teach the young woman in the ways of a hero.

Extra
Seiya is a unisex Japanese given name, whose readings (both feminine and masculine) can have a 'celestial' feel; readings include "holy/sacred night", "star arrow", and even the rather simple "star moon" amongst others. Estelle comes from the Latin "stella", meaning "star". This cosmic connotation of her full name extends further to a series of general references to the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, particularly to the Universal Century. Seiya's weapons and surname reference the character Lalah Sune (MSG0079), a 'newtype' pilot who operated the experimental Elmeth mobile armour and its funnels in the latter half of the story; "Lalah" and "Elmeth" respectively have been corrupted to "Layla" and "Elma". Layla and Elma's functionality as neurologically linked remote-control attack drones are quite comparable to similar weapons dubbed (fin-)funnels and bits throughout the UC timeline. The psychic abilities of a 'newtype' required to operate these weapons was usually channelled through the 'psycoframe' or 'psycommu' systems; this rough theme-naming continues for Seiya in her Psychofield, Psychoarms, and Psychotracers.
The "PCF-AtX" designation for much of Seiya's equipment is read aloud in-full as "PSYCHOFIELD-Atlas Prototype ver." followed by a further descriptor and the 'name' given to the particular item.
The Royal Will Project;
