As I walked trough the school, couple of the students of class blue passed close to me but none of them actually approached to greet me, weirdly enough, I hadn’t even received a nod of recognition from any of them. If I had to guess I would say that they were avoiding me for some inconceivable reason. I even could have sworn that a girl actually raised her hand to give a polite wave on my direction, only to suddenly go pale and turn around to start running as fast as she humanly could in the opposite direction.
-Uh... Weird, I guess maybe she forgot to turn off the oven or something? Go figure- I said to myself as my tail swayed from side to side, unconsciously along the tune of a simple but cheerful melody I had started to hum to myself a couple minutes ago. For some reason I was in a excellent mood that day, so I was not going to let a couple of strange encounter ruin my day.
I happily strolled trough the campus in what could be only described as a lovely day in the city of Mistral. I had decided to wear a loose white robe fastened with 2 horizontal sashes crossed over my belly forming a rough “X” around my waist and my trusty sandals that bit into the soft floors of Haven academy with each step I took.
I smiled as a friendly bird landed briefly on my shoulder only to rise again when I turned my head to verify that the swirling cloud of dark and damp matter a couple times my size was creeping behind me at just a step or two of distance as I walked to the communal training room.
See. I had to use both of my hands and tail to carry the heavy liquid containers I had acquired and filled to the brim with gallons of fresh water. But for my purposes I would also need a good amount of my lovely soil reserve, but fortunately I got it covered fairly easily since I really didn’t need to carry it around in a sack or something, I could simply make it float and follow me around the place like some sort of eldritch companion.
To anyone else watching the scene unfold, I was a small girl carrying three drums of water and being closely persecuted by an amorphous mass of darkness floating menacingly just a couple feet behind my back, threatening to gobble me up like some kind of horror monster the moment I looked behind.
The reason I was carrying such a vast amount of dirt and water? Simple, I was going to a training and study session that I had arranged with a certain Arno Mach via scroll message a couple hours before. He had been pretty cool with the idea, so we had gotten to organize everything on a really short notice. I forgot to ask him if he was going to bring his own water, so I took the freedom of carrying some with me just in case.
I had seen his semblance in action in the vytal tournament, and I was struck by how similar it was to mine: Precise, almost seamless control and solidification of inanimate matter that could be used for almost anything as long as the user had a quick wit and a good chunk of aura to spare.
Not matter creation tough... Neither of us. But I kind of preferred it that way, as far as I knew, matter creation semblances more often than not sacrificed a finer control in exchange for higher firepower in to form of an almost unlimited reserve of material to work with... But semblances like mine or Arno’s were ideal in the light that both of our elements were relatively easy to find and carry around, so we could focus our efforts in refining and polishing our mastery with controlling the elements.
Of course, his specialty seemed to be water when mine was actually earth, so there was were the similarities ended. But on a more... To say, mechanical level, there was no one with a semblance as similar as mine in the whole school, so I was understandably excited and eager to get what I hoped was the first of a long series of joint exercises that would undoubtedly raise both of our semblances to new levels!
So many uses, so many roads to explore! I was itching to see all the ways in which I could implement his techniques to my semblance and vice versa. If he could make his water as hard as stone and I could make my dirt as soft as water, then there was no way we could not synergize well for a study session.
The dude itself was certainly an enigma. Was all the posing and the heroic charade just a well constructed farce or did he really held himself to such high and laudable ideals? He had been at least graceful enough to look pretty distressed when a certain drunk team leader didn’t show up for the match between team MARS and MRSA. And tough we had come to blows during that fight there was no hard feelings between the two of us.
Well, neither between anyone from team MARS and me to be honest, Ruqa and Alice were cool chicks, Alex had become the chaddest guy in Haven with what he went and do... But come one, even if the rest of them turned out to be assholes, it’s not as if it was possible to actually get mad at that big ball of chivalrous goofiness that seemed to be Arno Mach.
And maybe his good humor and quirky friendliness were the reason I was feeling so upbeat in that particular morning. Unlike the disaster with the music club, I could foresee no way in which a training day with a guy like him could end up in anything more serious than a couple of bruises and a little exhaustion after a long day of workout.
-Yep... Nothing bad can happen... Nothing at all... And here’s to hoping I didn’t just go and jinxed it just now-
Stepping into the empty training room, I put the water containers in the middle of an open space no one was currently using and settled myself sat upon one of them to wait until Arno arrived. Idly making figures and shapes around the air with my semblance to kill time.
