NINA RIVERS
Hark now, hear the sailors cry,
Smell the sea, and feel the sky,
Smell the sea, and feel the sky,
"Hehe. Thanks." She flashed her winning smile again, clearly proud of Bianca's compliment.
Though the concern about choking on them was pretty low on her list of things to worry about. She hadn't managed to swallow any so far, at least. As far as she was aware, anyways.
She laughed at the tautological (and highly sarcastic) discovery of water's aquatic nature. It was true, though- it really did just taste like regular water. Some people expected it to taste like something else, which was just weird to think about. What else would it taste like?
The scientific inquiry following the snarky remark was an interesting rabbit hole to fall into, though.
Nina wasn't much for pneumatophysics, but she was at least well-versed enough to know how to discuss Semblances and Auras intellectually. It was a fascinating subject, for exactly the reasons Bianca laid out- there was so much that was unknown about them, and so much that was based in totally unexplainable phenomena.
"Buona domanda... Huh. Could be taken from the air, yeah. Feels like it comes from inside me, though, something more eh... Internal, I guess, is the word for it. Can't just be creating matter from nothing, though, that's impossible. Makes you wonder how it all works, yeah?"
She didn't end up continuing that line of thought, though, as the conversation changed to Haven, then to some unsavory characters she'd rather pretend weren't there, and then to the topic of how the two of them landed at Haven in the first place.
She gave a little laugh, though a just a tiny bit drier than previously. "Yeah. Hopefully I can be some help. At least in the long run anyways- not too great at kicking ass and taking names, heh." But, give her a well-stocked library-on-wheels, and a few well-armed friends, and she could probably do a lot of good in her own unique way.
Still.
Sometimes felt a little silly, being enrolled at a Huntsman Academy, with no real desire or intent to actually become a Huntress, in anything more than title and authority.
She glanced up as Bianca told her about her own reasons for joining Haven, though. It sounded about as vague and plain as her own, but she could tell there was a lot more to it. The lizard faunus seemed to be pretty well-set on helping people. Doing good. Whether she acknowledged it or not, she had nobler intentions than most people Nina had met in her life.
And the shark faunus was rooting for her.
Hopefully Haven could help both of them reach their goals.
She nodded along at the list of places Bianca would like to travel to. She agreed, pretty much entirely. She hadn't actually been to Vale yet, or Atlas, but she was familiar enough with Mistral, Vacuo, and Menagerie to know which was the clear winner of the three.
"Menagerie's nice. Good weather, right by the ocean. Mm. And good food. Nice to be in a place where..."
Where humans weren't around.
Where faunus weren't second-class citizens.
Where nobody felt the need to cover their ears or hide their tails.
"Where you feel eh... Accepted? Dunno where I was going with that, heh."
She'd be the first one to admit that she got lucky with the genetic lottery. She was a faunus, sure, one hundred percent. But she was human-passing. Enough that even on Menagerie, she got some strange looks from time to time, until they saw her teeth. She could go just about anywhere she wanted, and not have to worry about some racist fuckheads trying to mess with her.
Others weren't so lucky.
Hell, in spite of her appearance, what she went through as a kid, before she met the Seraphines, was rougher than most humans she met could comprehend. As much as she loved Menagerie for the home it was for her, nobody could deny that being scooped up by strangers, and stuffed into a boat to be taken away from your home was a traumatic experience. Or that the kids and families displaced, killed, or broken by the Faunus War was a scar that could never truly heal. Or that Menagerie itself wasn't just a human solution to a human problem, no matter how defiantly the faunus claimed it as their own, and wore it as a badge of pride.
"It's not perfect, but it's a good island. Not that I'm unbiased or anything." She grinned again, baring her pointy teeth once more.
She mused for a bit on Bianca's next question, fittingly filled with more compliments- her humility was pretty impressive, she was basically the most humble person she knew.
"Yeah. I guess I'm glad I ended up here. Dunno how long I'll stay for, but it's a change of pace from everywhere else I've been. Maybe I'll check out Vale next. Or the big icy hellscape up north. Maybe even uhh... Mata Mata? That little island Holly's from. That'd be a neat place to visit."
Let your soul and spirit fly,
Into the mystic.
Into the mystic.
