"You wanted to see my new gadget? Ta-da!!"
[attr=class,cs-main]
Date of Birth: December 11th, 7 AV
Species: Human
Romantic Orientation: Biromantic
Aura Color: Cyan
Height: 162 cm
Weight: 58 kg
Color Naming Rule: Indaco is Italian for 'indigo', a dark blue color.
Caterina means 'pure', which could be seen as something more untouched, or, 'white'. Combined, her name become something like 'light deep blue', which would cancel out in a way becoming a neutral blue, kind of like her hair.
Semblance Name: Detonator
Rank of Semblance: E
Semblance Type: Manipulator.
Primary Category: Combatants
Secondary Category: Combatants
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: Caterina Indaco has the Manipulator semblance of Detonator which allows the wielder to crete and manipulate explosive sigils capable of dealing area of effect damage and destroying the terrain at the impact site.
Description of Semblance: When touching an area or an object, Caterina can create a dark blue sigil about the size of a dinner plate. While she is within about the length of a telephone pole (10-12 meters) from this sigil, she can cause it to explode with a flick of her finger. She can set up to five sigils in this way, and trigger an explosion with each one individually by flicking a specified finger. The damage of the explosion is enough to destroy rock and stone, the area of which can be expanded to hit multiple targets at the cost of much more aura, as long as they are are all within her sigil activation range.
Drawbacks of Semblance: Like with any Semblance, Aura is required to use it. In her case, she needs Aura to place the sigil and to cause it to explode. The intended location of her explosion is telegraphed by the sigil, making it more than possible for nimble foes to dodge out of the way. She cannot have more than five sigils active at a time (one 'assigned' to each finger on her left hand), making her vulnerable during the time it takes to create and explode the sigil or sigils. If she leaves the activation range, the sigil fades and cannot be used. Given that she needs to move her fingers to activate the sigils, if she was unable to move them due to being tied up in some way, she would not be able to use her Semblance. Should she be caught up in the area of her own explosions, she has no special immunity to them, and could also be damaged heavily by them.
Weapon Name: Mimmo.
Rank of Weapon(s): F
Category: Combatants.
Description of Weapons(s): A deployable turret that can either be set on the ground, clamped onto the surface of a vehicle, or held like any gun. Mimmo's design is slightly steampunk, looking like a round dull metallic sphere with red accents around it. When deployed, four little legs pop out from below it to either dig into the ground or magnetize to a surface, allowing it to remain stationary. Caterina can use the watch-like device she wears on her wrist as a controller to aim and fire bullets from the turret. She gains no mechanical benefit from this controller aside from aiming and firing her turret.
Name of Non-Combat Ability: Engineer
Rank of Non-Combat Ability: E
Category: Social.
Description of Non-Combat Ability: Caterina is an
accomplished engineer, suited to her family's business. She built her turret on her own even before her stint in combat school and spent time working alongside her father working on airships. She has a degree of expertise with mechanics of all kinds.
Name of Non-Combat Ability: Gadgeteer
Rank of Non-Combat Ability: E
Category: Social.
Description of Non-Combat Ability: Caterina can put her mechanical know-how to use by making small tools and gadgets that can benefit her in the field, from something as simple as a flashlight to something more complex, like the goggles that help her see in the dark, Grimm infested forests.
Name of Combat Ability: Durability
Rank of Combat Ability: E
Category: Hazard.
Description of Combat Ability: The sheer amount of trial and error that went into learning to control her Semblance and
build the devices she holds so much pride in left her experiencing quite a few explosions in her face. This helped temper her aura, making her more durable than average for her level.
Name of Combat Ability: Marksmanship
Rank of Combat Ability: F
Category: Combatants.
Description of Combat Ability: Between minor adjustments to her wristwatch control device and her own training with her weapon, Caterina has become slightly more skilled in the art of aiming and shooting things, now able to accurately hit targets as far as seven meters away.
Primary Drive: Caterina is largely motivated by two things. The first is to honor her father, Giovanni Indaco, and become a great inventor and engineer. It was, after all, her father's dream to see her surpass him. But alas, he was a part of the crew that ran the airship that crashed in what became known as The Fall. Her second motivation lies with the noble lives lost when all of those Haven students and faculty died in the crash. So, so many people with potential to do good in the world were just stricken right out of the history books with that one devastating event. It's heartbreaking, really, and why she dedicate herself to ensuring that they would not have died in vain. She would honor them as well as her father by becoming both the greatest engineer, and a powerful Huntress. She'd be damned if she let something like that happen again. Now in order to do that, she would need to figure out just what went wrong that fateful day, and work to find a way to prevent such a thing from happening again. That would take time. For now, her short term goals fall in growing her strength as a Huntress and improve on the designs on her weapons and gadgets. It would be nice if she could meet other people like her, who want to help make the world better and safer. Who knows, if she plays her cards right she might be able to actually build something useful, not like that dumb ol' Cross Continental Transmit System those Atlesian engineers were working on.
Fears: Caterina is utterly terrified of small scavenger mammals like skunks and raccoons. This may or may not stem from a childhood memory of nearly being attacked by a raccoon when she was... borrowing... things from her father's garage workshop to study in her room later. While not exactly a fear, she has a deep-seated hatred for sitting around and doing nothing. It's in her nature to always do something. Definitely made sitting around quietly in class difficult, and probably would have caused her grades to tank had she not been able to pass the time by doodling the margins of her notes. You could say that it would be a fearfully boring existence if she was forced to sit around and do nothing for prolonged periods of time.
Style of Self-Expression: Despite being an only child- or perhaps because she is- Caterina goes out of the way to approach others with a cheery, friendly manner. What? Getting in people's face and loudly talking about her precious mechanical babies isn't exactly friendly? What? Personal space? The heck's that? yeah, Caterina doesn't really seem to have the ability to recognize personal space. And she might be, maybe, a little too excited about what she does. And she might be a little pushy and short-sighted. Maybe it's all covering up a girl who's worried that people won't like her, so she leans too heavily into her over the top persona. Could she really be a bit more serious at heart? It would explain why she seems to prefer to deflect questions about her past. And yet, it seems as much as she can dance around words, she can't dance around actions. She could avoid a question from someone one day and make a tool for them the next, as if she was trying to show how much she cared by giving them something that would help them out, or hold some sentimental- yet practical- value. Caterina isn't the most well versed in fashion, but she does like keeping her clothes nice and properly fitted, which she was used to due to the fact her father brought in a fair amount of money from his engineering jobs.
Most Important Thing: While Caterina's goals seem noble, they are also laced with a certain degree of selfishness. She wants to surpass her father for herself, not necessarily to succeed where he could not. She wants to become a powerful Huntress not to save people, but to be known as the one saving people. They may be slight, sure, but these little selfishnesses could become her undoing. As would having to choose between her goals. Would she sacrifice her future as an engineer if it meant saving someone from a terrible fate? And just the opposite, would she sacrifice her morals in order to become a better engineer, letting innocent people get hurt in order to collect data on a bit of theoretical design? It could go either way.
Born and raised in the bustling Mistral cities near the landmark Haven Academy, Caterina had been surrounded by powerful, successful people her whole life. While smaller towns and villages might've been lucky to have one or two Huntsmen near them, Caterina has seen them in action practically since the day she was born. City life moved fast, and she was never too keen on sitting still. That is, unless she was engrossed in her father's work, or on the Tournament matches played out on her old TV she'd built from scraps (with her father's help of course). Her father's work in mechanics and engineering was fascinating, but so too were the Huntsmen she watched fight each other and terrifying Grimm in tournaments and other competitions.
You might say that Caterina always had some desire to both become an engineer and a Huntress, but the events of The Fall only proved to accelerate them.
Life was rough without her father there with her. For most of her life, he'd been there. Coaching her, cheering her on, supporting her. She adored her mother, sure. Violetta was wonderful woman and the best mom a girl could ask for, but they didn't share the same depth of bond as she did with her father. They did so many things together, and without him her life had begun to feel empty. She very nearly failed to graduate her primary combat school for that reason alone. She'd gone months without putting any work into her projects- some of which shed been doing for credit in her school. A part of her almost wanted to give up engineering and inventing all together, as just looking into her father's workshop made her heart ache.
And who knows. Maybe she would have, had she not found an old record player and a single, battered record. It played maybe two songs well, with the others a bit too garbled, but the first brought her back to her childhood. This record, it contained a few of the old songs her father would listen to when doing his work. She remembered interrupting him once when she was little, and he had picked her up and danced and sung with her.
And now it was helping her realize something.
Engineering would bring her closer to her father. They could, in some way, share it together again, just as they did the songs on this record.
It had been about thirteen months since his death, and now Caterina had a lot of work to do if she wanted to not only continue his legacy, but make up for lost time.
First on the docket was getting into Haven.
The one on one tournament matches proved to be all the more terrifying and awe-inspiring. In her primary combat school, she'd taken part in a few matches with her classmates, but they were nowhere near as extravagant as they were here. While wooden weapons were used in the primary schools and Semblances were limited to make fights more fair, that wasn't the case here. It was an all-out match to earn your spot. She had a few close matches, but got lucky with the smaller size of the arena. Had it been larger, she might not have been able to box in her foes and attack with both her Semblance and her lovely turret. Lucky for her she was used to taking a beating from prototype gadgets shorting out on her, or else she might've been knocked out by some of the heavy blows she tanked.
The dark forest infested with Grimm was much easier, in part due to her goggles. She'd built them for situations just like this, where visibility would be very low without being able to properly see in the dark. Honestly, that was something Faunus had up on humans. Dumb human eyes sucked at seeing in the dark. Regardless, it helped her get an early lead by laying out traps to ambush various weaker Grimm, like adolescent Beowolves and Creeps.
Last was the written test. She'd expected it to perhaps contain some history about the school or the area, but was surprised and intrigued to see the questions mostly centered around hypothetical situations and how she might act. She hoped she did well enough on them, and made it clear the kind of person she wanted to become as a Huntress- someone who could leave a legacy that would never die.
And getting into the school would be her first step on achieving that legacy.
