Semblance Name: Exhaust
Rank of Semblance: F
Semblance Type: Manipulator
Primary Category: Social
Secondary Category: Social
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: Grey has the manipulator semblance of Exhaust which allows the wielder to create and manipulate smoke.
Description of Semblance: Grey is capable of creating smoke from his body in a multitude of amounts. Grey generally sticks to the creation aspect of his ability. While the smoke may look heavy in nature, it is actually rather harmless. Breathing it in will bring amount no harm to anyone who happens to do so. Whether someone is brave enough to try that depends though. On a side note, creating a smoke cloud is one of Grey's most common moves. Being that this is one of the most basic of actions he could do it isn't quite straining. The size of the cloud for reference is generally the size of a small room.
Drawbacks of Semblance: Lacks offensive capabilities. Dissipates if up against wind or massive force that can scatter it away. Expelling the dark gas from his body takes but a little bit of aura. Yet, actually taking control of it consumes an extreme amount due to the precision required.
Weapon Name: Butterfly Knife
Rank of Weapon(s): F
Category: Combatants
Description of Weapons(s): A playful little toy that doubles as Grey's primary means of defense. Though, given Grey's circumstances, it's rather surprising he even has such a flippant type item. The weapon measures out at 29cm when opened and approximately half that when closed. When Grey is working on the clock he casually toys with the blade in his hand often annoying those around him with it's excessive click-clacking. Presently though, he has gotten to the point that his handling of the weapon is practically seamless. The weapon generally pales when compared to others given it's short range and impracticality.
Name of Non-Combat Ability: Stealth
Rank of Non-Combat Ability: ] E
Category: Obstacle
Description of Non-Combat Ability: Grey's general style of fighting is avoiding it altogether. Being that he's decided to take up arms rather late in the game, he has managed to grasp albeit an amateur's understanding in how to hide one's self.
Name of Combat Ability: Flurry (Speed)
Rank of Combat Ability: E
Category: Obstacle
Description of Combat Ability: Quick witted and sure-footed, it almost seems like destiny would have Grey be fast on his feet. While not the greatest fighter around, Grey excels in one thing and one thing only. Running away!~
Name of Combat Ability: Zephyr (Agility)
Rank of Combat Ability: E
Category: Hazard
Description of Combat Ability: Thanks to the basic training Grey received during his time as a Kozak, he has been able to develop a basic level of competency at dodging. While not anything spectacular, it at the very least gets the job done.
Name of Combat Ability: Heart (Stamina)
Rank of Combat Ability: F
Category: Hazard
Description of Combat Ability: While not exactly at where he'd like it to be, Grey's ability to take a beating and not go quitting isn't the worst. He's at least capable of keeping up with a fresh recruit from Haven! So...yeah. At least that's something!
Name of Combat Ability: Endurance (Durability)
Rank of Combat Ability: F
Category: Hazard
Description of Combat Ability: Like with his previous abilities, this too was one drilled into his body. Not particularly great at taking a beating, Grey barely gets a passing grade in this field.
Name of Combat Ability: Muscles (Strength)
Rank of Combat Ability: F
Category: Combatant
Description of Combat Ability: Ah and finally his last aptly named ability. Muscles. Hilarious really considering how Grey looks to be honest. The basic strength training he's gotten at least has gotten him to the starting line in the power department. While he won't be impressing anyone anytime soon with any miraculous feats of strength, Grey can at the very least protect himself somewhat adequately now.
Primary Drive: 'Strength Decides All.' Action takes strength. And that's all well and good except one problem. It's strength that Grey doesn't have. That aside though, Grey is ever curious about the strength of others. Grey often wonders how far others will go to achieve their goals while simultaneously striving to never be forcefully subject to the whims of another again. While he is mostly out for the wellbeing of himself and his family he is a staunch believer in the golden rule and will go out of his way to make sure all debts are properly paid.
Fears: Surface wise Grey is afraid of losing of his loved ones. Deep down however having a lack of agency in controlling his life is what scares him most. He wants most to live and die on his own terms. He also hates people developing certain perceptions of him. That includes those who think him being weak, worthless or pitiable.
Style of Self-Expression: During most of Grey's life, he's had to wear a smile. Whether things were good or whether things were bad. It didn't matter. Grey would often be smiling through them because ultimately it was all he could do. While working at his parent's place, he always had to bow his head down. He always had to smile and deal with menial bullshit that he could smell from a mile away. And while he's dropped the pretenses of liking all that garbage, his smile and cheery nature has developed into something of a bad habit simply because it's easier to deal with people that way. While outwardly he may seem like a happy-go-lucky kinda guy, underneath it all is someone vastly different. He's a cold and calculating kind of guy who knows the cold harsh reality of the world can be unfair sometimes. But even with that being the case, all one can do is always play the hand one is dealt.
Most Important Thing: While Grey tries to live by the code that 'Strength Decides All' there are some rare random nights where he wonders if he ever would have made a different choice during the Tragedy of Kerch. As much as he tries to convince himself that it was an act done selflessly in the hopes of saving those important to him, he knows that to not be entirely true. He prides himself that he was able to make the 'tough' decision...but truthfully. They were dead either way. He simply wanted to agency in the situation to satisfy his own ego. If ever presented with the choice again when his life isn't up for forfeit...would he make the same decision? He tells himself that he would but deep down. He knows the truth. He wouldn't.
Starting from a ready modest home in the country of Mistral, Grey didn't grow living any sort of extraordiary life. His mother and father were two of the most normal kinds of people you could probably ever meet. But even with his humble background, Grey couldn't help but aspire to be that which most young kids wanted to be. A huntsman. Unfortunately for him however, his chances at that were rather small. His father and mother did their best to provide the necessary upbringing for him to make that happen, but with his Aura being average at best and his semblance being mediocre at worst, his dreams died the day of the test. What they wanted was strength. And that was something Grey neither possessed nor knew how to obtain. But it did serve as an important lesson for Grey. If you wanted to get anywhere in life. You needed strength.
Time and time again Grey would see this lesson demonstrated in society. Had the Fannus had strength, they wouldn't be persecuted. Had he become a Huntsman like he'd originally dreamed, he would have been able to help support his aging parents. Had his town been properly defended...
Well...then it wouldn't have been destroyed.
The tragedy of Kerch.
It almost served to become Grey's final lesson in life. When the day began, Grey didn't think it would have ended up with him running through the dark forest with his family. While they figured most of the horde was probably still destroying Kerch, Grey tried to keep them moving quickly in case they had pursuers. Unfortunately for them, they did. Hearing the quickening gallops behind them, Grey's mind raced for a minute as a slow realization began to dawn on him. He knew the lesson so well. And yet he still chose to ignore it. To neglect the opportunity to try and obtain strength. And because of that they were all going to die.
...
..
.
No.
He wouldn't let that happen.
Making up his mind fairly quickly, Grey ushered his parents on and told them that he'd distract the Grimm behind them and lead them away from catching up to them. His mother of course objected to the matter, but his father understanding the severity of the situation simply shot his son a knowing look before leading his wife away into the dark. With his parents hurrying away, Grey attempted to focus on the growing steps that had been behind him. He figured he could at the very least buy his parents at least a few minutes. How laughable that was. Even if he had been partially trained at a younger age, his abilities paled in comparison to the two Grimm who emerged from the forest. Springing from the shadows with a speed that his eyes could barely follow, had Grey's body not been wrapped in what little Aura he had, he would have been split in half. With just a single hit his body was launched sideways through the woods and through several trees. The pain was excruciating given his body's aura gave out halfway through his plowing of trees but he was still somehow alive. Pulling himself up from the pile, he quickly turned and began retreating from the fast approaching Grimm. With each pained hobbling step he took he could hear the pair growing ever closer.
Coming to terms with what was likely to soon be his death, Grey kept pressing forward until a break in the trees revealed a ravine in his path. Mouth breaking into a smile, Grey couldn't help but glance upwards as he wondered if this was another question issued by the universe. One last test of strength. Would he let the Grimm finish him off? Or would he figuratively and literally take the plunge himself. Taking but a couple of seconds to think it over, Grey let out a small sigh before he threw himself over the edge.
What happened next, he couldn't really tell ya though. Apparently, at the bottom of the ravine ran a river. When they had pulled his body from the waters, they soon found out he was in horrible shape. Whether it was because of the fall or the hit he took from the Grimm he didn't know, but when he awoke he discovered he was wrapped in bandages and put on bedrest for several months. Recuperating in the random village, Grey picked up a few things here and there about the aftermath of Kerch. While he naturally wouldn't have been able to learn what happened to his parents after they parted ways, he did hear something interesting. Apparently a new faction had sprung up due to the incident and survivors from the city seemed to be gathering there. Once he was of proper strength, it was the first place Grey decided to set out for.
Upon arriving, Grey soon found his family. Both were surprisingly well. The Kerch Kozaks had taken pretty good care of them. Being that Grey was one who was always returned a favor, he decided to join. That night where he stared death in the face was a night he had made a decision. He wasn't going back to how he was. He was going to die properly. He was going to die on his terms.
