Date of Birth: September 16, 10 AV
Species: Human
Romantic Orientation: Demisexual
Aura Color: Light Green/Yellow
Height: 6’ | 183 cm
Weight: 159 lbs | 72 kg
Color Naming Rule: Lumen comes from Lumens, the measurement of luminous flux alluding to Light. Pairing his surname "Valley," it references the white flower, "Lily of the Valley."
Semblance Name: Luminary
Rank of Semblance: D
Semblance Type: Physical Boost
Primary Category: Combatant (+2)
Secondary Category: Hazard (+1)
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: Lumen has the physical boost semblance of Luminary, which debuffs equal or lesser ranked Marksmanship (ranged) attacks against the user by one rank and boosts the user's physical movement speed.
Description of Semblance: Lumen’s semblance is first signified by activating his aura surrounding his body. From then, his entire body gest overtaken with a bright white glow that is much brighter than a normal aura glow, almost akin to a powerful floodlight. Enemies who attempt to fire at him will find difficulty in aiming at him due to the pure blinding light that his body emits. Along with this radiant glow, Lumen’s physical speed is also boosted for the duration he has his semblance activated.
Drawbacks of Semblance: Lumen is not immune to the physical glow of light his semblance produces; he is also affected by it. Naturally, his aura his drained as long as he maintains active use of Luminary. The longer his semblance is activated, the glow will begin to dwindle as well as the boost to his physical speed until it fades out as his aura fades out. Lumen’s increase in speed does not necessarily go hand in hand with a boost in his own agility. He is best suited to moving in a straight line rather than dodging continuously with his semblance activated.
Weapon Name: Lillium - [image]
Rank of Weapon(s): D
Category: Combatant (+2)
Description of Weapons(s): Lillium is a simple non-transformative static gunblade with the handle being similar in size and shape to a large revolver (able to be wielded with 1 hand or 2) and a blade that extends from the barrel. Lumen crafted it himself with help from his father, who wielded the same kind of armament. It functions both effectively as a ranged firearm and a melee blade weapon. The blade is the length of an average sword, around 70 cm, with both edges sharped. The weapon can be fired with regular dust ammo cartridges and bullets. Lumen most often carries the weapon on his back with extra cartridges carried on his waist.

Rank of Combat Ability: E (+1)
Category: Combatants
Description of Combat Ability: Skilled with his gunblade and most other firearms, Lumen has the marksmanship ability expected of most second-year trainees.
Name of Combat Ability: Swordsmanship (Martial Arts)
Rank of Combat Ability: E (+1)
Category: Combatants
Description of Combat Ability: Skilled with his gunblade and most other bladed weapons, Lumen has the swordsmanship ability expected of most second-year trainees.
Primary Drive: Lumen wishes to be a Huntsmen, and he hopes to be the best that he can, and he knows that the main Huntsmen academies are the place to do it. That’s his sole reason for coming to Haven. In truth, he is only outwardly loyal to the Council and the Academy because, for the moment, he has to be. He’s still very young, not the most opinionated, and only really listens to what adults and upperclassmen tell him. Things like the political standpoint of the nation, tumultuous climates, and everything else all don’t exactly affect him or matter to him. Most everything he does he believes in is grounded in his desire to acquire the skills necessary to become something his family can be proud of.
Fears: Lumen’s worst fear is failing his family, especially his father, who was once a great Huntsman before he was injured and forced to retire. His sole reason for venturing outside his small home village is to explore the world and become something better. If he can’t do that, he fears that he will never be able to return home with pride.
He also has a slight stigma regarding piranhas due to an incident in his youth.
Additionally, while not exactly a fear, he holds a significant annoyance towards moths and other flying insects.
Style of Self-Expression: Lumen is a quiet kind of person. He’s not extroverted at all and tends to keep to himself, rarely starting conversations on his own but only letting others talk to him if they want to. Some can mistake this for shyness, and while he does enjoy his alone time, he doesn’t take measures to actively avoid people either. He doesn’t mind either way. He may be a bit self-conscious about his small-village background, and both his simple, somewhat limited views on life and his aversion to making grand political stances also make him feel a bit of an outsider. In addition, he’s rather unfamiliar with many of the amenities and social constructs of modern, urban life, from scrolls to airships to the net and more. He tries not to let this bother him, and in the end, he still primarily considers himself a loner any way he goes about it. He feels inexperienced but wants to learn more about the world. At the same time, he feels like the world is far too big of a place for him to explore and all he wants to do is return to his simple life back home. He tries to be as honest as he can be and expects the same from most people. Yet, he also guarded that he doesn’t want to expect too much of others as well. Again, he is friendly, outwardly, because he doesn’t desire conflict and doesn’t think that fighting should be the first answer to every question.
Most Important Thing: Lumen was raised with rather traditionally moral values. His father was a former Huntsmen, and while his mother never was formally trained, she, along with his father, still protect the village that they live in from Grimm and anything else that would disturb their peace. Lumen holds two values close to his heart, always protect the ones you love, and if you don’t like who you are, then it’s up to you to change that.
Morally, it would be very difficult for him to justify killing another person, but if they would ever harm or attempt to harm a loved one, then he would hold nothing back in stopping them. At the same time, Lumen’s world is very nuclear, and the idea of a ‘bigger picture’ makes him vastly unsure of himself. He can’t justify killing innocent people, but if he had to choose between innocent people versus his family, he would in no doubt choose his family. Those ‘hard choices’ are just choices he never wants to make and hopes he never has to.
His second dearly held value is in most regards to himself. As a young man just starting out his career, Lumen feels and knows he is weak and inexperienced, and this is what he dislikes the most about himself. However, the words of his father often resonate within him, “There is no shame in being weak, there is only shame in staying that way.” Lumen strives to be strong, to be a Huntsman that his father can be proud of. And most often, he struggles with the idea of doing something his father would disapprove of. Without his father with him, he now can only hold to the things the elder Valley taught him and use that in his everyday life, hoping that it’s enough.
Mother - Lilly Valley
Father - Rift Valley
Twin Younger Sisters - Lavender and Lilac Valley
Lumen was born in a small, nameless village on the Outskirts of Argus. He has twin younger sisters and a pair of very loving but also stern parents. His mother lived in the outer wilderness all her life and is a hardened homesteader and traditional loving mother. His father is a retired Huntsmen who had, by chance, met his beloved on a mission years ago. His final mission injured him greatly, forcing him into early retirement, but it also led him to the opportunity to marry the love of his life.
All his young life, Lumen adored his father, who told him great stories about his Huntsmen days and what it meant to be one. His parents were among the village’s top protectors against the dangers of the Wilderness and were seen as great leaders in the community. For Lumen, his entire world was his village and his family, and most anything outside of it he remained ignorant or unaware of. Places like the Mistral Capital and Argus, the urban metropolises and kingdoms, all seemed so far away, almost like fairy tales themselves.
One time when his family went fishing, he accidentally fished up a piranha that nearly bit his finger off. From that day forward, Lumen holds a slight stigma towards the vile creature and all its kind.
As he grew older, his father showed him the ways of handling weapons and fighting Grimm. Eventually, he would even unlock his aura and discover his semblance. His father was both his mentor and his hero, and the man instilled very many important values to Lumen that he carries with him to this day.
Eventually, it came to a time where Lumen’s father decided that he had taught all he could to his son. If Lumen was to become a better Huntsmen than he was, then the young man needed to travel outside of their small village, attend a true Huntsmen academy and discover his own path in life. Lumen was rather troubled by his father’s decision, as it was his own expectation to live his life in their small village and stay with his family for as long as he could. But because it was what his father said was best, he believed it.
Lumen left his home village and went in search of the Capital of Mistral and Haven Academy. It a harrowing journey, but he did make it on his own, relying on his survival skills taught by his family. He was even given a rather outdated scroll, his father’s former model with a cracked screen which he still uses.
He would make his way to Haven and go through its examination process. He was actually comfortable with the fight against the Grimm because it was similar to how he helped defend his village against them with his family. Though he was a bit confused when doing the supposed personality test, he wasn’t really sure what the examiner was asking about. In the end, he passed it too because it was deemed he was ‘mentally sound,’ a term he still isn’t entirely sure the definition of.
Of course, his timely arrival at Haven meant he was thrown into the thick of something like a Civil War or the actuality of one. The youth from a village with next to no outside contact quite literally had next to no idea about the political tensions between the Council and branded Revolutionaries (he also had next to no real idea what those two things even were). Regarding the history of Haven’s lost students and teachers, Lumen is rather ambivalent or, more likely, just ignorant. For lack of most emotional or personal attachment, he tries to do what he is told to the best of his ability.
And that is where the youth currently still resides, now in his second year at Haven.
