Holly put away her scroll as she looked around the bathroom she was now standing in. To her, the logic made sense. After storing away all the food you brought, you see a giant pool in your weekend cabin retreat. Of course, you take a dive in it! You find the nearest bathroom and you change into your swimsuit. Because that is apparently a requirement for swimming in Mistral territory. Still, doing all of that meant that you were too late to claim a room as everyone else already arrived at that point. Luckily, Holly had managed to rope Lily into becoming roommates. All for the price of a single banana. Well, Lily seemed to have accepted the proposal without the banana...but Holly didn't want to disappoint and arrive empty handed. [break] [break]
The girl opened the door and wanted to head out, but she looked down at herself. Hmm, would it be weird to just run around in a swimsuit for now? Was that a part of the swanky lifestyle? Maybe, but better not test it out. Colton would most likely yell at that, wouldn't he? And that would cause Holly to shout back...ugh, not worth it. Holly started changing again into her dress. She can change later in the room when she had met up with Lily.[break] [break]
Being fully clothed, and with her belongings safely placed in her dufflebag, the pink haired girl tried to find Lily's room. Because she didn't ask which room the cat faunus had claimed, she simply opened every bedroom till she was certain it was the right one. It wasn't hard to guess that the room that had Lily inside of it, was Lily's room. That is just sound reasoning. Holly, of course, had given no prior notion of entering the room. Not a knock, not a sound. She just expected that Lily was ready for Holly with the chat they just had on the scroll. The carpet felt funny on her bare feet, but it would suit her purposes fine. [break] [break]
Standing still in the room for a moment, Holly would place down her bag on the floor when Lily was aware that Holly was in the room. Unceremoniously, Holly opened it up without a word, but instead of simply unpacking she retrieve a single item from it. Of course, the thing she took out was the banana she promised to Lily. Offering the yellow fruit, Holly now fully introduced herself in her emotionless voice. "Hey there, Holly Hock, I like plants, and I am here with the banana to ensure you will be my roommate. Please accept it." It sounded almost humble, was it not a weird thing to do to ensure being allowed to stay in a room with someone.[break] [break]

Lily was in the adjoined bathroom when Holly entered, and could see the girl through the open bathroom door. She had been expecting her, and had been in the process if tidying up her various toiletries before Holly had arrived. Her scroll was still sitting on the bed in the adjacent room when Holly had showed up. Maybe she'd let herself in after waiting too long for Lily to respond. She felt an immediate pang of guilt, and resolved to finish up and greet the girl who would be sharing a room with her.
She felt her aura swelling within her, building until it overtook her. Her body was suddenly overclocked, her fingers and movements more precise and much quicker. As her hands whipped through the air in front of her quickly transferring the oddly diverse assortment of medicines, soaps, perfumes, and deoderants that Xanthe had packed for her.
Who on remnant would need three different brands of deoderant?
She left the vast majority of what Xanthe had packed in the suitcase, but did find a few things she was likely to need. When she was through the white glow where her arms had been moving was bright enough that one might not be blamed for shielding their eyes from its glow. She didn't bother to deactivate her semblance, throwing the door open fully and rushing into the room to greet her guest. She stopped a few paces from Holly, and the white trail of glowing light that followed her faded away a few seconds later.
Lily for her part acted as if this were perfectly casual entrance, accepting Holly's stiff introduction as potentially the most comfortable introduction she'd had to date. It was easy to understand and told Lily a bit about the girl. She loved it, and could tell that she could learn from it.
"Lily, er Finnian" she said taking the proffered banana by the stem and pinching the bottom to open the fruit. "I like exploring, and am pretty good at surviving in the wilderness. I will gladly accept this banana."
She peeled it and took a large bite, wondering if this were a common roommate gift, and if whether or not she was supposed to offer a return gift.
"U-uhm. I have some deodorant, or some perfumes if you want a counter gift. Maybe-"she started but stopped herself. She really wanted to hang onto that can of bear mace. "Maybe you can have the bed if you want it? I am glad you picked me to ne your roommate. I will work hard to ensure that I am the best roommate you could ask for."
She looked determined. She had mentally prepared for this, even before the trip she had considered the possibility and felt she was ready to take this vital next step in social normalcy. Her nervousness was thankfully quiet in her mind for the moment. If she could hang onto this feeling of being pumped up she knew she could do this.

Holly squinted for just a moment as Lily came into view. Damn, what was she again? Holly couldn't remember. That is the problem with ears. You are never sure what animal they belong to. Cat? Dog? Fox? Nah, Niraya is a fox and they are longer. Perhaps Holly should just ask at some point? Hey, I don't want to be a bigot, but could you pretty please say what kind of ears those are? [break] [break]
Hmm... Faunus sensitivity is hard, but Holly doesn't want to be yelled at again, so she wants to do this the right way. [break] [break]
Wait, did Lily just greeted Holly in the way Holly greets people? Did her brand of efficient opening lines finally catch on? She had been greeting people for months that way, but this seemed to be a genuine copycat! THAT IS RIGHT, SHE WAS A CAT! And things seemed to be getting better and better when Lily not only accepted the banana, but also immediately started to take a bite from it. You got those kinds of people who take the friendship banana, saying that they will eat them later...but then they never do! There is nothing ruder than taking a gift and then letting it spoil. When is someone too busy to eat a banana within three days or so? Holly made her banana's extra yummy for the tummy! Well, she made everything delicious. Hmm, new thought! Could she make fruit that tasted bad on purpose? Perhaps Holly could... [break] [break]
Holly was pulled out of the idea of sabotaging her own work when Lily offered to give something in return. the girl blinked for a while, before she gave a smile. It only took Lily a few sentences to do just that. It took others days to maybe catch a smile, but she did it very quickly. The plant girl took a few steps forward before she attempted to place a hand on Lily's shoulder. Still with somewhat of a smile on her face, Holly answered her offer after Lily was done speaking. Her voice was still rather monotone and lifeless, which obscured the fact if she was joking or not. "Oh Explorer Lily..." Haven's resident dirt aficionado now looked the other girl straight in her eyes. "I haven't used deodorant a day in my life, and I have read online that they test those things on animals. If you want to use something, go for essential oils. They are plant based, and I can get you some." She was trying to set up a little side-business, and people really seemed to be into herbal medicine and other alternatives. [break] [break]
On the topic of sleeping arrangements, Holly was short and clear as she pointed to the floor. Just at the moment when you thought that she expected Lily to sleep on it, she added: "I have also never slept a day in my life in an actual bed. I just sleep under the one I got at Haven. The bed is way too soft, and this way I can store things on top of it, like my personal stash of plants." [break] [break]

Lily could feel her surge of confidence wilting as Holly approached her. Did she offer an offensive gift? Was there some customary counter gift she was meant to offer in exchange for the banana? Lily was too consumed with worry that she had committed a terrible faux pas that she didn't notice when Holly's hand darted out to grasp her shoulder. She let out a short surprised squeal as she was jolted back to reality. Holly made intense eye contact, close enough Lily was sure Holly would be able to smell the banana on her breath, as well as the lingering scent of shampoo which she'd been unable to fully expunge from herself after cleaning up particular mess.
She stood there, mesmerized, un able to look away. How had it been so hard to maintain eye contact with Long, and yet now she found herself too terrified to look away.
"W-Why would animals care about how they smell?" she asked in confusion after Holly appeared to finish talking. She didn't quite understand how testing deoderant on animals could be a bad thing, unless they simply hated the smell. Animals noses were stronger sure, but didn't deoderant suppress smell? Maybe they liked the suppressed smells and were distressed by the lack of them? She began to wonder if they had a different understanding of the way things like flowers and rain smelled, or if the smells were idengical, but different in terms of potency. She didn't get too far into that line of thought before she remembered that she had a roommate talking to her and she probably shouldn't stay quiet for too long unless she intended to say no more.
Did she have more to say? She fumbled for a second, but belatedly added, "And I didn't really like beds much at first either, it took almost a year before Xanthe could get me to sleep in one. My real gave me a bedroll on the comfy firm ground and that was how I liked it. Eventually though I guess they grew on me. I think I like pillows more than the beds themselves though. Something just feels right about having your head propped up y'know?
She seemed to seize up after speaking, afraid she may have been boring her with stories about how she slept. In her panic she blurted out, "What are essential oils?" it was a stiff question that stood in stark contrast to the relaxed way in which she'd been rambling, and was clearly designed to put the onus of speaking back on Holly's shoulder. She felt a little pang of guilt for having selfishly speaking so much without thinking that perhaps Holly may have wanted a turn. She wasn't sure if she even wanted to know about essential oil. From Holly's description, it reminded her of the fragrant perfumes Xanthe had bought for Lily. She had to admit some of them smelled somewhat pleasant, but the one time she'd rubbed it into her skin like Xanthe had told her, she got many strange looks from people on the street, and the smell had lingered far longed when it had when she would spritz a little bit into the open air of her bedroom. She preferred those sorts of smells in short bursts, like stopping to smell a flower. Too much exposure to them made her nauseous, which was part of the reason she was willing to part with them so easily despite Xanthe having apparently spent a bit of money on them by her own account.

Holly still had her hand on Lily's shoulder, and she was definitely close enough to smell that luxuriously shampooed hair. Not that she cared too much for the stuff herself, and looking at Lily she didn't either. She didn't seem to have done it correctly, as there was still too much of the stuff in Lily's hair. Perhaps Holly could give her pointers?[break] [break]
Why would animals care about how they smelled? Holly honestly didn't knew the answer. She just heard the argument multiple times in those videos that she watched. It seemed to be made by people who also didn't eat animals. Perhaps if you thought that animals shouldn't be harmed at all it might make sense...but Holly ate all that delicious meat when she could. Could she be against spraying animals with some nice smelling sprays, if she had no problem with cutting them up because they tasted delicious? Most likely not. Luckily enough, Holly didn't had to defend her position on animal rights as the conversation seemed to go in a different direction anyway. [break] [break]
A fellow anti-bed enthusiast! Still, she was a fallen soul... fallen to the bed side of the conflict. The lure of softness seemed to have taken another floor-sleeper. Don't you know that there is always a floor to sleep on, but only so many beds? Limiting yourself to only sleep on maybe 1% of all surfaces is a weakness that Holly doesn't needed in her life. She could sleep anywhere and be fine. The big bed industry might not want the truth to be out there, but it was a well-known fact that there were no side-effects from sleeping on the ground. Beds had no true advantages either. It was all a comfortable lie to sell very expensive surfaces to lie down on. [break] [break]
Holly finally managed to notice that Lily seemed to be uncomfortable, so Holly removed her hand from the other girl's shoulder and took a few steps back. While Holly had a question of her own, there seemed to be a need to educate this poor lost soul. With confidence she seemed to repeat a basic sale's pitch that she heard somewhere: "Essential oils are the extract that you get from plants and other natural sources. Most stuff you buy in the store like shampoo is made from the same stuff, but they added a lot of other stuff like preservatives, antioxidants, and additive coloring. Essential oils are all the good stuff, without anything unnecessary added in the process that might be harmful for your body." [break] [break]
Being done with the pitch, Holly was still begging to ask her own question. As she seemed to have more confidence on a bad day than Lily would have on a good one, she just fired away. She seemed to have taken enough clues from Lily's word to nuance her question enough. Her voice was still rather bland, but she at least seemed interested in hearing the answer: "Also, who is Xante? It doesn't sound like she is your mom. I would like to become best friends with my roommate! You can ask about my family, if you like! I love them dearly!" She said the line with total conviction, though afterwards there seemed to be somewhat of an unspoken hesitation in her stance. If Holly either wanted to ask more, or say something more about her own situation. Perhaps the girl didn't had at least an endless pool of confidence.

Lily breathed a sigh of relief when Holly removed her hand from her shoulder, and another when she asked about Xanthe, taking pressure off of her for her stinky plant oils. She didn't like rejecting people, but didn't have more than a passing interest in the plant oils. She wondered if she'd be able to withstand her sales pitch for their duration together as roommates, but she decided that this was a risk she accepted when deciding to find a roommate. Mercifully, her chosen line of inquiry was one of the few subjects she could talk readily about.
"Xanthe isn't my mother, but she is at the same time. A little more than three years ago, she adopted me with her husband Verne. They took me in after... she seemed to struggle with what she wanted to say for a moment, before changing course from the thought that had popped into her head. "...After I came to the big city. They've showed me a lot, but not as much as I would have liked.
She looked a little abashed at that, but remembered she was gonna talk about Xanthe.
"Xanthe and Verne actually met at the academy, Xanthe was a weapons specialist, while Verne focused on close quarters combat. She helped me make my final embrace," she said, quickly producing the gauntlets with the bladed vambraces for Holly's perusal. "She spends most of her time at home, either in her workshop or... her face went somewhat red as she whispered "...cuddling with Verne. she composed herself, and continued on trying not to think of the excessive displays of affection those two were prone to. "Sometimes she'll drag me out of the house with her to go shopping. She can get kinda scary when she does. In fact, she's almost a totally different person."
The mild mannered and typically quiet Xanthe could turn into a tryant that delighted in embarrassing the young faunus who was woefully underequipped to deal with her pushiness. "Like I said, she's the reason I have so many of these really strong smelling perfumes. You can't say no to Xanthe when she wants to buy you something or take you somewhere.
She wondered if that was how Xanthe and the stoic Verne had initially hooked up, but didn't think about it beyond that.
"All that aside, she's a really good person. She uses a lot of the money she makes from her weapons to help out the families who started suffering after the fall. She's always putting other people before herself, which I think is admirable.
As she said that she remembered the story the somber Verne had shared with her. Due to an unfortunate injury she had gotten while saving Verne's 'reckless ass', she had been rendered infertile. It was that injury that ultimately led to Lily's adoption by the young couple, and Verne's somber retelling of it only reinforced the kind of person Xanthe was in Lily's mind.
"O-Oh, but enough about her, you said I could ask about your family right? Got any siblings? How strong are your parents? Didja ever manage to beat one of 'em?
Her family experience was definitely an odd one, but these were the first questions of many that had popped into the feline faunus' mind. She spared Holly the great many of these, deciding she would have plenty of time to learn more, and that it would be best not to overwhelm her newfound roomie with too many questions at once.
Holly seemed to be somewhat taken aback when Lily brought up that she was adopted. Holly didn't have the best track record in talking to people who were orphaned. Not her fault they were mostly loveless cretins. Still, Holly liked Lily already a whole lot more than most other people. Perhaps Lily's parents were still alive? Maybe she was just a run-away? Lily also said three years ago, so maybe the girl at least grew up with knowing what love and connections are? The plant-girl decided to listen intently, and let the faunus speak without interrupting. The girl's eyes were fixed upon Lily, as if watching her could help absorb the information more easily. [break] [break]
From what Holly heard, and saw, X&V seemed like great people. Learned their kitten how to fight, loved each other very much, and bought their little kitten lot's of cool stuff. Holly wished she had nice stuff. Well, she some nice stuff back home. Her family was the nicest, and she had them. Scrolls and perfume were cool and all, but family was better. Having money and a family was even better better though. Then you could love each other and given everyone nice stuff, like clothing and medicine! Holly felt happy for Lily, even though her outward appearance didn't really showed it. [break] [break]
When Lily seemed to redirect the question back to Holly, the girl was taken aback a bit. While she indeed said that Lily could ask her anything, she didn't exactly expected Lilt to well...ask. Only Ryan had asked about Holly's family in any detail beyond the question if they still lived. A lot of people here had at least one sibling, or a dead parent, and some completed the whole set by having lost their whole family in some sort of familicide-bingo. The prize: Sadness and the inability to form human connections. It ruined so many potential friends and allies. Have a close relative die, and suddenly you don't want to be friends with Holly because she 'couldn't possibly understand their grief and suffering!' Ugh, do I need to put one of my sisters in the blender to become one of the cool kids? Did I not suffer enough?! ...Sorry Delwyn, I would never put you in a blender! Sorry for the thought![break] [break]
Holly seemed to be taken at least a moment to think about Lily's question, but she eventually just started giving the information. It wasn't that she was weighing which information to tell and keep secret, but it was more so an evaluation on which information was the most pressing to give first for Lily to get the full picture. Holly started to give her life story in a rapid tempo, all the while seeming deadpan and maybe a bit bored while doing it.[break] [break] "So, I grew up on an island, Mato-Mato. It lays between Menagerie and Mistral. I got two sisters, Delwyn and Clair. They aren't as strong as me but they have nice hair and they are good at other stuff. My mother never fought, but my father said he used to fight in the war. He used to be stronger than me but right before I left, I thought that I could almost beat him one time. I am supposed to become stronger than him, and make lot's of friends here who are also strong. Then we will all become strong and help my island to set up the-!" [break] [break]
It wasn't often that Holly was aware that she was saying too much. It was even rarer that she stopped mid-sentence to keep herself from saying it anyway. Holly seemed to be obviously keeping the truth to herself, as the girl looked a bit flustered at not telling her new best roommate something. She was never much for secrets, and she was quite the horrible liar. Her father and mother never liked it when one of the siblings lied. Committing to the crime and asking forgiveness was always the safer option in the house. Still, it would have been an awesome skill to have in some situations when discussing future plans. You couldn't really say: My family has found a massive dust deposit under our island just ripe for the taking! Please don't tell the rich authorities! Holly looked a bit sheepishly at Lily, though she said something just to end the awkward silence. Not really thinking about what to say, as long as it wasn't 'that', the girl just said the first other thing that came to her mind. [break] [break]
"I...I just really want to return and help home. I...I never was one to be the 'protector of everyone'...I...I just want to make sure my family remains safe."[break] [break]
