War upon stone and it grows weaker.
War upon man and he grows stronger.
Which shall your wall be built of?

Slate didn't know how long she'd been lying on her back, but it'd been long enough that the burning heat that'd been eating away at her Aura and her body was completely gone and replaced by a pleasing cool numbness. Similarly, it had also been long enough that the cloud of steam that had risen from her when she'd tumbled into the snow was long gone, and also enough that her pants were now wet from the melted slush around her. Thankfully, her jacket kept her torso dry, though the same couldn't be said for her hair and tail. Both were soaked through with snowmelt, and were starting to become uncomfortable. Sitting up straight felt like a herculean effort, but the wolf Faunus managed it, and then from there scooted her way around to the nearby wall and pulled herself to her feet. Now that the adrenaline was wearing off, she was starting to feel every bump and bruise that she'd gotten in the flames. The combination of Aura and clothes she'd worn had protected her from the worst burns, but her hair and tail were singed enough that she'd want another trim whenever she got back to her room to get rid of the smell of burnt hair, which was completely and utterly awful.
She thought back to the events that had happened but a few minutes before, and was hard pressed to keep her lip from curling into a snarl of distaste. She'd never seen that blonde before, and his scent didn't ring any bells, so it couldn't have been someone she'd beaten up before looking for revenge. She hadn't been at Haven long enough to make those kinds of enemies, since they beat each other up all the time, and she was on top of recognizing new transfers in, like she had been. And yet, it was clear that he'd been planning this for a while, especially with the way things had been set up to lure them in so he could try to bake them like buns in an oven.
Was it the other girl she'd been with, the reason why he'd flipped out? Possible, and yet it didn't seem like herself being just collateral damage in an attempted murder was the way things were. There was something about it that just rubbed her the wrong way, and not knowing what it was irritated her to no end.
The wolf Faunus turned her attention to where the other girl had disappeared into the snow and darkness, then back to the building with the smoke billowing out its open doors. She didn't think it would burn down completely, with her experience with fire - concrete walls and floors meant that once all the supplies in the bottom floor were finished burning, the fire would probably starve itself out. Taking a shaky step forward, Slate kneaded at the muscles of her legs with her hands until she could move properly again, and started to walk slowly, letting her body recover from the ordeal it'd just been put through.
All that gasoline had to have come from somewhere, and while she didn't know how long it had been sitting there, it was possible that there were clues she could record on her Scroll, so that that stinking slimeball couldn't weasel his way out of consequences. Pulling the old thing out of her pocket, noting with another burst of anger that a few new cracks had been added to its surface, Slate moved up to the open entrance and snapped a few pictures of the interior, especially the formerly barricaded door that had been blasted out while they were escaping, though she made sure not to come too close in case the fire raged out of control. In fact, she didn't even step past the threshold again - once she was done, the wolf Faunus would turn her attention to the surroundings, looking for anything that could possibly lead her to incriminating details she could bring to throw that blonde fuck in jail for the rest of his life.
If there was any indicator of anyone approaching while this was happening, Slate would move to conceal herself immediately behind any scenery and keep herself out of sight. No attempted killer would be stupid enough to return to the scene so soon after the crime, but given that he'd been stupid enough to try to roast her alive, the wolf Faunus wasn't going to be taking any chances until she was absolutely sure.
And if it just so happened that she could get the drop on that backstabbing traitorous bastard with a nut where his brain should have been, then so much the better.
