Payne Hathi
" Our duty is to protect and serve."
Age 18 Gender Male Faction Haven Academy Tier Freshman Face Claim Haru Natsume, Stand My Heros OOC Name RaiKask |
Character Traits
Date of Birth: August 5th, 7 AV
Species: Human
Hometown: City of Mistral
Romantic Orientation: Straight
Hair Color/Style: Brown, medium length and worn a little messy.
Eye Color: Brown
Aura Color: Dull grey
Height: 187cm
Weight: 87kg.
Appearance: Payne, despite appearing rather unassuming at first, has a rather well-toned body that supports his chosen path in life well. With a naturally athletic build, his body is well-tempered though has yet to find itself any notable marks from battle. He has a fair complexion, tanned slightly though not yet taking on much colour.
His choice in attire is more formal. When not in the school uniform, he's often wearing dark grey dress pants and a similarly coloured long sleeve shirt with an asymmetrical blue strip that runs up the left side just in front of the arm. He wears combat boots with a more subtle appearance as to not clash with the rest of his outfit and a medium grey jacket with sleeves rolled up to the elbows, a loose collar at the top, and goes down to about his knees. He wears the jacket open most of the time when the weather is nice.
Personality: Payne is a kind and gentle person, caring of those around them and taken by a sense of duty and code of honour. He believes that becoming a huntsman is about protecting the people, and puts that at the forefront of his mind in all that he does. His compassion for others makes him amiable to be around, friendly and easy to strike a conversation with. He is respectful, honest, and does his best to uphold the values he wishes to protect. He can be a bit old fashioned, a gentlemanly fellow, but for the most part this is expressed in good ways, general chivalry and good behaviour.
While he does his best to be the best man he can be, he still has his faults. He's self-sacrificial, often looking after others at the expense of his own needs, working himself to exhaustion in his pursuit of duty. This also causes him to insert himself into situations that aren't necessarily his business, offering help when it is sometimes unwanted and seeming overbearing as a result. He tries to respect the boundaries therein but finds it hard to stand by when he feels he should be doing something more active to help.
He can often be the whistful romantic type, imagining an ideal world one day without Grimm or needless negativity. He hopes that such a day will be coming soon, many of his thoughts carrying this optimism. This also translates into his relationships, with friends he is quick to diffuse arguments as he doesn't want rifts to form, and in romance, he dreams of an ideal and peaceful family life with a partner perfect for him.

Combat & Inventory
Wings of Justice
Rank of Semblance: E
Semblance Type: Summoning
One Sentence Summary of Semblance: Payne summons four small ethereal birds that he can direct to attack his opponent.
Description of Semblance: As his semblance activates, Payne's aura flairs, four bubbles of it rising up from his arms to form into the birds. Both the birds and Payne are able to move during the duration of the semblance though Payne is responsible for the general control of the birds. This control is expressed through thought, not needing to make any physical motions or verbal commands. They cause damage upon hitting the target, dissipating once they are attacked. If he is smart with their use, he is able to keep them active for some time. The birds have a range that's approximately the length of a telephone pole (10-12m) away from him, and will simply hover in place if they are about to leave the range.
Drawbacks of Semblance: The birds have no durability, a single strike being enough to destroy them. Additionally, the effectiveness of the birds depends on the details of his commands. For example, if he wills the birds to attack a target they will simply fly directly towards it. If he wants them to be more evasive or otherwise more tactical, it requires him to focus on controlling them more heavily. This can easily distract him, meaning he can't be complex with his commands while also in the middle of being attacked lest he fails at both. A single target can only take damage from a single bird in a post, regardless of how many land. As well, Payne has to keep track of the birds himself, unable to sense anything through them.

Biography
History
Payne was born to a rather simple family, his father was a carpenter and they lived in an apartment above his shop in the wind district. His mother was an interior decorator, often times the two of them running a business together where they would offer custom room designs based on his father's work. Growing up, Payne was taught a great deal about carpentry, his father feeling it would be good to start it as something of a family business, needing to pass the skills on.
At the age of five, Payne's sister Poppy was born. Payne was immediately taken by the idea of becoming an older brother, excited by the idea of having a younger sister to look after. He was always a kind and caring kid, and this provided him with an opportunity to express that further. As the years continued on, Payne would learn about huntsmen, a few sometimes coming through their store. Whenever he could, Payne would try and talk to them, hearing stories about their adventures, and most importantly to him, the good deeds they did for others. Saving villages, rescuing people being attacked by Grimm, it was all very exciting to him.
It wasn't long before he was bringing his dreams of becoming a huntsman himself up to his family. While it wasn't exactly what his father had hoped for, still teaching him the skills of the trade, he wanted to support Payne in his chosen path in life. At the age of fourteen, his father began to teach him some very basic combat. He had been one of the people drafted into fighting in the great war, so he passed on what little knowledge he had in combat, leaving Payne to develop his own skills once his father taught him all that he could.
It was around this time that the Faunus War was coming to an end. Growing up Payne didn't hear much about it, they didn't have much need to get involved in that kind of news, but once it came to an end it was something much more prevalent. Payne felt that it was a good thing that the faunus were getting the rights they deserved, they really weren't all that different from humans so he felt that discrimination against them was just wrong.
A year before he was able to apply for Haven academy, something he felt confident in with his training he had put himself through, The Fall happened. With the number of lives lost during the event, it was a huge shock. His parents were more concerned about his wellbeing in the field, uncertain if they should go ahead with letting him attend, but he was determined to go. Surely, if everyone worked together, another tragedy like that could be avoided. If he could be a part of that, however big or small, he would be satisfied. Once applications opened up once again, he took his chance, signing up to become a student at Haven.
