Just outside the city of Argus were several open fields and training regions. Some were open while others have a level of terrain that added some kind of element, such as trees and uneven ground. Just like home for Qiu'li, who has grown up in Forever Fall, a place known for its dense, crimson red forests and mountain ranges. Since it would be a while before his match in the tournament, Qiu'li decided to meditate some and train a bit while he was here at the advice of one of the attendants at the tournament sign-up booths. It would do well for him to calm his nerves too. Master Satotta always lectured him when he skipped out, it nearly became second nature at this point. Seeing as most of the city was in celebration, there were little to no people whatsoever here.
Solidarity. Something Qiu'li was all too familiar with, and enjoyed to an extent. It was difficult adjusting to the city and seeing so many people, yet he felt a sense of excitement being here that he would never have felt back in his village or with his Master. It was his first step on his journey to find true strength, and there were many more to come. As he approached one of the training grounds, he took a look at his surroundings. It was approximately 40 meters in all direction, surrounded by various, large oak trees that stood several meters tall with thick, strong branches. Below the ground was mostly dirt, scuffed with marks from previous individuals and fighters, as indicated by the various small craters that littered the area and scratch marks on the tree trunks. A chilly wind blew through the area, though thankfully Qiu'li was used to this type of weather, as well as his clothing being fit for it.
After several seconds of admiring the area, he took a seat in the center and laid his ringed broadsword, Longtou, beside him and closed his eyes. Back straight and head tilted, Qiu'li crossed his legs and placed his palms on his knees before emitting a low hum.
Breath. Inhale. Exhale. Empty your mind. Think of nothing, and feel the world around you. Listen to the sound of the animals, feel the touch of the wind, feel the hardness of the ground. Let yourself become one with your environment. Breathe. Inhale. Exhale.
This was the routine that Qiu'li followed every day without fail. It gave him the mental strength, and served as a time to reflect and think of nothing. It was a calming agent for him, yet he was still a long way from building his mental strength by meditation. He could feel his Aura radiate with each meditation and exert some pressure, but it was not nearly as strong as his Master's. As he completed his breathing routine, Qiu'li stood up and raised Longtou in front of him, letting it dip slightly to allow the rings affixed along the edges of it to clink in unison, ringing across the forest trees. Immediately Qiu'li flicked his wrist and brought the sword to his shoulder, taking on the first stance. Downward swing, upward, side cut. Each swing rang out in unison with his breathing.
"Ha.. Ha! Yah!!"
As soon as he finished his first routine, Qiu'li sensed the presence of somebody nearby. Who could it be though? It couldn't be Flower, would it? He scanned his eyes around, with his usual villainous glare as his sword dangled to the side. "Is someone there?" He called out as he continued to listen or look for anybody. Just because he had gotten used to the new environment didn't mean he was completely relaxed around. Given his upbringing, it always bode well to be on the cautious side.

Niraya Platinum When snow falls, Nature listens.
[attr="class","rainbow"]
Its been a few days since her acceptance into the school. She was exploring the nearby town of Argus since some classes take them to various places. She wanted to get herself more accustomed to the town. As she explored she found plenty of things that interested her, but she didn't linger. She overhears a couple of hunters talking about there sparing match in a place not too far from town. This interested her so she heads out to find this place.
As she leaves town she keeps her hand on her blade. She looks around wondering where this place those hunters had mentioned. It didn't take her long to find such a place. From the various cuts and scratches on the trees, she passed it was clear it was a place that has seen many years of combat. As she explored she hears something nearby. "Huh?" her ears were twitching as she looked around trying to pinpoint the direction of the noise. She hears it again it sounded like someone fighting.
She gets a fix on the direction and charges towards the location one hand on her sheath the other on her blade. She runs as quick as she could and comes upon a small clearing where she stopped and looked around. "no Grimm?" She was confused at first but then realized this individual was practicing with his blade as if he was in a real fight. This individual seemed to sense her presence. She takes a more relaxed stance as the man looked around. "Is someone there?" He was looking for her, or possibly a creature of Grimm. "I'm here. You looking for me?"
Qiu'li turned his head towards the direction of the female voice as he tried to figure out the source. Upon closer inspection, he realized that he was in the company of another individual, a Faunus to be exact. He watched her fox ears perk up as she stood some distance away from him. He figure that she must have been either drawn to him due to his Aura's presence or from the sounds of his training. Either way, it seems like she was a fighter as well, noting the crimson colored katana that was beside her. Seeing the color reminded him of home, back in Forever Fall, though he recalled that Faunus lived far, far away. In a way, Qiu'li sensed they both had a connection: They were a long ways from home. s
Though her outfit seemed somewhat strange, Qiu'li had no right to talk about 'strange,' in that his own garments seemed to stand out considerably among the population in Argus as well. Traditional, thick clothing with fur lining the edges of his clothes and a light set of leather spaulders that covered his shoulders and neck as well as a crimson red sash secured with a small metal medallion.
Well, it seemed like she was more or less curious about what he was doing, and quite frankly Qiu'li still hadn't mastered being able to communicate properly. It wasn't like he was the most interesting person here, compared to many of the flashy individuals that liked to show off their Semblance on stage to garner attention, but he took pride in his fighting style. Regardless, being out here gave Qiu'li the chance to see many different styles of fighting. So many different Semblances, so many ways to display strength.
Qiu'li gazed up at the Faunus and swung his sword over his shoulder. Although he was bad with words, there was still one language he could speak well: Combat.
"Want spar with Qiu'li?" He asked.

Niraya watches the man curiously he seemed like a skilled fighter and his weapon of choice was a rather large blade with strange rings affixed to it. His outfit reminded her of some traders that use to come into the forge shop she worked at. some mountain-dwelling traders or something. she couldn't remember the name of the place they were from. He didn't seem aggressive towards faunus, in fact, he almost seemed happy to see her. for what reason she doesn't know yet.
She walks closer to him as he seemed lost in thought for a bit there. As she closer he shoulder's his weapon which reveals how large his blade truly was. it was near half as tall as him yet he could carry it without issue. When she tried to forge a blade that big she had to get her mentor to help move the blade around. Then he spoke in the third person which was a little odd. He seemed to want to have a little fight. Given his demeanor, he was a warrior ready for a fight. She gives him a smirk. "sure Qiu'li, I Niraya gladly accept your offer."
She waits for him to take his ready stance before assuming hers. her had sheathed her blade but was ready to pull it out quickly. Qiu'li probably has seen something similar to this stance in his training. "ready when you are." She was watching him her ears standing on end her tail slowly moving to counter her motion from breathing. She was ready for a fight but wasn't sure what he had in store so she was trying to study him.
Niraya, huh? Qiu'li noted the name and nodded as she approached him, accepting his offer to spar. Frankly, Qiu'li was rather excited about this challenge. He never bode well with conversation, as he didn't have much to say nor was able to. However, when it came to fighting, there was no need for them. Actions speak louder than words, of course. That's why when she accepted his offer, Qiu'li was happy, though his expression didn't give much of a hint that he was. It didn't seem like she was going to react until he did, so he took the initiative. With a slight dip of the head, raised his sword up, parallel to his face and pointed towards Niraya.
He didn't know what her fighting style was, nor her Semblance's nature. This would be a dangerous situation to simply throw himself at her. However, Qiu'li was pretty certain she didn't know what his was either. It was down to a game of chicken to see who would show their hand first, though it'd probably be much tougher than that. For now, he decided to get a feel of her capabilities with her crimson red sword.
Taking a low stance, Qiu'li sprung forward.. Though instead of attacking with his sword, Qiu'li hurled his sword at her! Wait- no that wasn't quite right, but rather he hurled it in her general direction towards the tree. In an inexplicable show of movement, from his waist Qiu'li drew out a 3-section metal staff, held together by chains and flicked it. This caused the staff to realign into a single, seamless 2 meter long staff. Just at the point's reach, Qiu'li thrusted the staff forward straight for her chest.

Niraya waits ready for his first move. When he threw the large sword in her direction she was able to avoid it but took her eyes off of him unsure what the weapon was capable of this left her open to the pole striking into her chest. She was launched back a bit from the momentum shift but she stays on her feet looking at him with a serious look now. She lowers her stance and charges towards him. Her hand on her blade ready to pull it out of its sheath. She faints an attack from his left only to shift quickly to the right unsheathing her sword for a quick strick like her master taught her.
When she stops to turn around she holds her sword at the ready. She was caught off guard by that first attack but she wasn't going to let him keep his advantage. She takes a deep breath and clears her mind pushing the pain in her chest out of her mind. *this guy is a skilled fighter. that strike was right on the center of my body. he knows his weapons well. but to throw one away like that. he must have something special planned.* She waits for him again she was weighing her options for this fight.
Ah. Looks like its his first hit. Since it was a direct uncontested shot to the chest, it must have hurt quite a bit. However, since Niraya was still standing tall, she must a tough one to take a direct thrust from a staff. Either way, he should be cautious, since his defensive capabilities relied on simply blocking. Qiu'li watched as she took a low stance, which meant she was either going to wait for him to attack, or charge forward.
It seems like it was the latter, as she sprinted towards him with her hand on the grip. She had two directions to go from there based on the distance she was covering: Either draw and strike at the same time, which meant a slash from his left side, or a redirect from the right. Although he could block and keep her at bay with the end of the staff, Qiu'li opted for a second approach. Taking a running start right at her, Qiu'li would thrust the staff downward while running and leapt upwards directly over Niraya! Though it seemed like she made a feint attack and redirected her attack from his right, Qiu'li was above her already. If it had been a vertical slash, Qiu'li would have definitely been punished for that. Using her as a footstool, Qiu'li kicked off her back and ended up in the position that Niraya started at before her charge.
He turned to face her, loosening the grip on the staff and allowing it to section off into three distinct pieces which Qiu'li held pointedly at Niraya. There was a clear mark where Niraya slashed at on his staff, which made him grimace a bit. What fine craftsmanship.
That's not a sword that I'd like to be at the end of. I need to avoid taking direct hits from it, else my Aura will be depleted quickly. Qiu'li thought to himself as he took a step back. Suddenly he began running away... towards his sword! In a contests of swords against an exclusive sword user, Qiu'li would not likely win. Therefore, he had his next plan! It was embedded in the tree, but if he reached it before she could catch up, he would have the upper hand.

Niraya missed her mark with the quick slash but it was clear he was worried about what she could do. They stood there in silence as if judging their next moves. Qiu'li was the first to act running away. He was heading towards the tree that his sword was embedded in but Niraya didn't want to let him get his hands on it. She activates her semblance. with a deep breath, the air around her chills and ice begins to form around her. She lifts up her hand and aims for the tree where the sword was and fires ice projectiles at it. If she could keep him away from his weapon she could get the upper hand.
She was still new to range combat so her aim was off warning him long before she corrected her aim for the next few shots. Each ice projectile was a sharp as a lance and embeds itself into the trees it hits. one ping off a rock near Qiu'li breaking it. Her aim was bad but she was slowly improving.
An elemental semblance, huh? An ice one at that too. Qiu'li grunted as he tried to block the incoming projectiles with the swing of his 3-section staff, though doing that while running wasn't exactly an ideal situation. Many landed dangerously close to him while others didn't Hm, an amateur Semblance user like he was. Still, the size of the projectiles and the speed they traveled were nothing to underestimate. It seems like she was aiming at the tree where Longtou was embedded to prevent him from grabbing it. Smart. It prevented him from retrieving it without risking substantial damage. However, that wasn't his intent.
One of the projectiles fragmented off a nearby rock and struck Qiu'li. Although the damage was minimal relative to a full projectile, it wasn't one he could reliable deflect. However, it was the trigger he needed to activate his Semblance. His skin turned beet red as steam began to emanate from his body. Qiu'li's veins were much more visible, and he easily dodged the ice projectiles due to his Semblance's active abilities.
As soon as he reached the tree, instead of trying to grab Longtou, he jumped onto the handle like a footstool and launched upward. From there, Qiu'li curled into a ball briefly as he came tumbling straight downward. As he did so, his body began rotating quickly as he opened up for a full downward swing with Panlong aimed at Niraya's head.
"Haaaa SHA!"Qiu'li shouted as his beet red and veiny face came close to Niraya with the full downward force of his Semblance.

Niraya was caught off guard and slightly intimidated by the sudden change in Qiu'li. He used the sword not as a weapon but as a springboard. He gets clears the gap between them not giving Niraya time to plan ahead. She takes a defensive posture just as Qiu'li was about to hit her. She could feel the force of the impact go through her as his falling speed added to his strength. Her ice armor fracturing at the force of it. She throws a punch at him before he could move. Her spiked fist aimed for his side. "please hit!"
It seemed like she planned on blocking his strike, as she took a defensive form right before he made impact. There was a loud crack of the staff against her armor. It felt like stone, which was about the extent that how power could break, though the visual crack of the armor surprised him a bit. Though it didn't take long before she retaliated with a quick strike. Considering his specialty was agility though, Qiu'li could dodge the side punch and did so, backing off from her with his staff held at pointing distance. Only one more direct, uncontested hit and Qiu'li doubted she would be standing much longer.
However, you'd be hard pressed to find Qiu'li underestimating his opponent at a time like this, as anything was possible. Niraya's Semblance shouldn't last much longer compared to his since she activated it sooner than he did, so she's probably ready to get desperate at this point. Now would be the best time to end this. Raising the staff upwards, he began a charge, wary of her ability to fire ice projectiles or use her sword again. He went for another chest strike as he thrusted forward with his Semblance energy but feint and redirected to swing the pole upwards and straight down.

Niraya's body was shaking a sign her body was reaching its limit for how long it can withstand her semblance. She needed to turn this fight around or she would be in no condition to continue. She sees him charging in and figures it was now or never. She takes a low stance and charges at him one last time. She has her blade at the ready. As she got close she spots his faint and shifts her position letting the armor take the brunt of the blow. She tries to strike him with a heavy blow. once they passed each other she fires a last-ditch ice projectile. After the shot was fired her armor falls apart and she was breathing heavy. her aura was visible now that the ice wasn't there.
It seems like she's reached her limit, as he was approaching his. The victor seemed nearly clear for the most part. It seemed like she allowed him to strike downward, letting her armor take the hit. Since it was uncontested, the staff hit the cracked part of her armor that he originally hit, probably shattering it in the process. Though she she traded that risk for a heavy blow that Qiu'li easily dodged due to his Semblance. Although he easily dodged the slash attempt and counter with a swift second 'thwack,' he couldn't dodge the follow-up ice projectile. It glanced him in the leg, immobilizing him briefly as he fell down on one knee.
However, the match seemed to be decided by the looks of it. If the battle dragged on further, her Aura would be completely drained while Qiu'li had some left to spare. In addition, it seemed like the ice had dissipated for Niraya, leaving her completely vulnerable for Qiu'li to retaliate once he recovered. Standing up slowly, Qiu'li nodded his head as he approached her slowly.
"You fight good. Acknowledge Niraya as skilled fighter. Enjoy spar very much." He nodded and tried to form something like a smile, though it seemed more like a grotesque sneer if anything. Ugh. Qiu'li was still not good with communicating. Though he continued.
"Fight over. Can continue if Niraya like, no mercy however." His grip on the staff tightened a bit to indicate that he meant it. Qiu'li was still beet red, but his skin began to tone down slightly and his veins were slowly fading away as the steam radiated less and less. It seems like he was ready to end this spar.

Niraya holds her ground unsure if this fight was over. When Qiu'li said the fight was over she sheaths her blade and relaxes. "Your speed was something I couldn't overcome." She bows to him. "It was a good fight but if you don't mind I would like to return to town and lick my wounds." She bows again and takes her leave walking with a slight limp as turning while exhausted twisted her ankle a bit. Though her aura was still flashing She keeps her head high as she came out with some experience on where she needs to improve. She takes the road back to avoid the woods since she didn't need to fight a grimm until her aura recovered.
