Niraya Platinum When snow falls, Nature listens.
[attr="class","rainbow"]
Niraya wakes up in a bit of a haze. She spent far too long tinkering on something last night. She looks around to find herself at her table with what she was working on. She gets up and walks to the bathroom with a slightly stiff walk because of the uncomfortable posture she was in as she slept. She turns on the shower for a night hot bath and she stretches to try and work out the stiffness a bit. The little drone drives into the bathroom and beeps happily. "Hey, there little guy. I'm about to take a shower we can head over to the various courts on campus and you can play around as I work on your brother." the drone spins happily and leaves the bathroom to give Niraya some privacy.
After a nice hot shower, she felt way better than when she woke up. after digging through her wardrobe for something simple to wear she settles on her blacksmith attire. it was a bit bulky but it was fireproof. and she thought it would be appropriate with the little drone she was working on. once she was dressed she packs up some gear and a portable project table she had lying around and after packing away the second drone she heads out. the little drone was going crazy super excited. "calm down little one you don't want to blow a fuse now do you?" She chuckles and heads out the drone leading the way.
Niraya and the little drone make it down the basketball courts. the tennis courts were nearby and easily accessible. "you can go play now just don't get in anyone's way ok?" the little drone jumped happily before charging off looking for something to play with. Niraya sets up her little project table behind a fence so a rouge basketball didn't hit the table. she pulls out her experimental drone and sets it down on the table before examining it.
The experimental drone was meant to fly and carry a gun attachment. somehow in her sleepy state, she actually gave it a prototype micro rifle barrel meant to use fire dust. she didn't question it as she gets back to tinkering with it. her laptop next to her going through the software as she physically played around with the hardware trying to make sure everything was working. all the while the tiny drone drives around playing around with the various basketballs and tennis balls it could find. it was just chasing i them around but it was obvious it was having fun.
Classes had finished and his routine study-time with Flower had concluded for the day. It seemed like she was busy with something else and had left him to do as he pleased. The Notice Board was fairly vacant today, save for a few Requests that didn't seem to interest him at the moment. He decided to wander the Academy campus to find something interesting to do, though Mika was nowhere to be seen, nor was Huli.
Deciding to head to the Wind District to see if there were any supplies that he needed or if they had any maintenance supplies for Longtou and Panlong, Qiu'li decided to cut through the sports recreational area to head out. Suddenly, he heard a click noise.
Click?
Some mechanical whirring noises buzzed around as Qiu'li glanced around in confusion. He didn't see anything out of the ordinary. That is, until he noticed a ball moving on its own. Qiu'li blinked in surprise and decided to approach it. Leaning over, he noticed a glint of metal hiding behind the ball. Hm...?
Qiu'li reached out and... picked up the ball to inspect. Upon doing so, he made eye contact with a... peculiar little mechanical creature. Wait, he recognized this thing. He had seen it before somewhere, but where? Qiu'li merely gazed down at the machine and tilted his head in curiosity. There had never been anything like this back in Forever Fall, especially of this size.
It was rather cute, in a way. So small, so fragile, like he could crush it. Qiu'li merely gazed at it with his signature stare for a few moments before reaching out to pick it up.

Niraya was nearby tinkering away not really paying attention to the little drone as she worked on her little project. The drone was just rolling balls around no real rime or reason but it didn't care it was fun. or at least the simulated equivalent for an A.I. It makes a small group of them before it moves away and charged at them at full speed. thought it bounced off the balls it enjoyed the spinning sensation it had. It quickly corrects itself before going after another ball and pushing it around. it's at this time the ball stops mysteriously and rise up. The figure on the other side of the ball was lifting up the ball and staring at it with an intimidating look. The screen had what looked like eyes on it and it was watching Qui'li back.
Suddenly the drone bolts off at full speed heading for Niraya quickly ending up under her and ramming into her foot. Niraya looks down at the drone. "What is it? your batteries low?" The drone looks over at Qui'li then back at Niraya. This causes Niraya to look over and see Qui'li holding the basketball. "Oh hey...what brings you by? were you wanting to play some basketball?" Niraya smiles at him and waves him over so they could talk. the little drone kept his distance from Qui'li unsure if he wasn't as scary as the first impression made him out to be.
Curiosity got the better of Qiu'li as he decided to pursue the bot, trying to grab at it. While he could easily outrun the bot, he didn't really see any reason to since it seemed to be moving straight towards something, or someone. Before he knew it, the mechanical device had taken refuge underneath someone's skirt. Glancing up, he recognized it as none other than the Faunus Niraya herself. Seems like he would be seeing her pretty often. First during the festival, then during their encounter with wandering the campus of Haven, followed by their encounter during the Request involving the cloaked individuals.
Qiu'li recalled that Niraya had become quite the celebrity since the events; even Qiu'li saw the headlines with her face plastered on the front pages along with Colton. Hum. He greeted her with a slight nod as he approached her, seems like Niraya was beckoning him over anyways. As she mentioned him holding the ball, he immediately dropped it and nodded his head.
"Wandering, not sure what do today. Tiny mechanical device. Curious. What is it?" Qiu'li said as he pointed to the robot that was hiding under Niraya and now making more distance as a result of his approach.

Niraya sees Qui'li throw away the ball. this caused her to tilt her head a little confused. surely a big strong man like him would be great at basketball. She didn't have to wait long for an answer. "Ah ok...well your welcome to join me." Niraya picks up the little drone and it tries to get away but the way Niraya was holding it prevented it. "Now now don't be scared." She caresses the chassis gently and it seems to calm down the robot. "there now...This is well... I don't really have a name for it yet. I took an old RC toy and added in a lot of thinking bits. I'm constantly modifying him just to work on some kinks that come up. somehow it developed a personality which is why I don't tinker on him much anymore...say hi now."
Niraya sets the little robot down gently. it quickly turns and looks at Niraya still not sure how to react around the scary man named Qui'li. Niraya nudges it a bit and it moves up to Qui'li slowly and beeps a few times at him then quickly scurries behind Niraya. Niraya pets it gently while looking at Qui'li. "guess you didn't make a good first impression." She sighs to herself. "if only Zerul was here. he would have loved to see how far along my work has come." She shakes the thought out of her head and tinkers away at the flying drone she was working on as she waited for Qui'li's next question.
Fascinating, a mechanical being capable of developing a personality? Qiu'li was puzzled, for the most part. Those with a personality would be considered alive. To be alive meant to have a soul, or so Master Satotta taughth him. Did this mean that Niraya was capable of putting a soul into a machine? He was perplexed, but interested at the same time.
She began throwing words that he didn't understand well, but based on the few that he understood, it seemed like this machine had been salvaged and had developed a level of understanding that most machines that Qiu'li had seen before did not have. Watching how the machine responded when Niraya urged it to greet Qiu'li, he was certain that this thing had a 'soul' of some sort. As it approached him, made eye-contact, and scurried away back to her, Qiu'li was naturally curious to its response as it let out a couple of beeping noises, as to test or greet him.
Qiu'li was interested in things that he didn't understand, for the most part. He was curious as to how Niraya was capable of doing such a thing. Was the ability to 'create' a soul also a part of strength? Perhaps the answer may reside in him watching her for the time being. The upgrades can wait for the time being. Walking over, he crouched down and leaned over Niraya's shoulder as he eyed the other project she was working on. Another being whom she would instill a soul into?
He glanced over at Niraya's direction upon hearing the same of someone. From what he could gather, it seemed like someone that was close to Niraya and was either very very far aware or had passed due to unforeseen circumstances. Either way, it didn't seem like it bothered her too much as she went back into tinkering. He pointed to the large machine.
"Machine Niraya built, also assist by Zerul?" These names were unfamiliar to him. This would also help serve as a means to learn more.

[attr="class","rainbow"]
Niraya was finishing an important line of code when Qiu'li walked up behind her as if to watch. The little drone moves its position in response keeping Niraya between him and it. She had finished the line of code when he pointed to the second drone. and what he said bothered her a little. "Zerul...was my...adoptive father...till he passed. He taught me much about electronics and various machines." as she said this her ears lay flat on her head and her tail had wrapped around her. "you could say this was assisted by Zerul as he gave me the knowledge to get this far." She slaps her face to free herself from the painful memories of the Atlas corporation claiming what was rightfully Zerul and Niraya's.
She points over to the computer. "this is code. think of it a master teaching its student how to do certain actions. this is the tricky stuff towards making these drones work. one wrong code and it could do anything it wasn't meant too." She pushes the enter key and the drone shakes a bit as the code was uploaded. it starts to stand itself up on the support legs it had as the fans started to come to life and lift it off the table. the turret turns to face them but just looks at them. If Qui'li was looking at the computer after the drone took off he would see them on the screen with a box around there face.
Qiu'li stared in surprise at the little mechanical device suddenly zip in between him and Niraya, as if to protect her. It was quite commendable if the machine was larger and possibly posed a bigger threat, but he kept it to himself and respected the distance for the sake of the drone's peace of mind.
Qiu'li listened to Niraya's tale about Zerul and how he taught Niraya everything she knew, noting her physical change in body language and posture. It must have been heartbreaking for her, just as much as when he had lost his mother. Wait, perhaps not... Rather he didn't hurt from losing his mother, but rather the events that transpired after it since he was too young to understand. Either way, Qiu'li sort of sympathized with Niraya, losing someone precious to them.
He blinked in surprise as he watched Niraya slap her cheeks. Was this some kind of faunas tradition? Perhaps it was something they did to restore focus, much like how he would meditate on occasion to clear his thoughts. Either way, he made a note of it for the future.
Turning his attention to the computer screen, Qiu'li paid attention to Niraya's explanation of what a 'code' was and its significance to the machine as a whole. A sequence intended to specifically instruct the machine to act. Fascinating, like a parent teaching a child, though not quite. It was more artificial, to say the least, but it was strange in how it mimicked the soul and life. He gazed at the box and back at the machine. He was startled by the fact that it was pointing a weapon at him, though he trusted Niraya enough to not try to blow his head off. Then again, worse case scenario he could just deflect some shots with Longtou.
"Interesting... Master Sattota would very interest in see mechanical soul. Master taught about how all things that breathe have soul..." Qiu'li gazed at the drone, the machine, and Niraya. "Yet here the machine move and act like it has soul. Like parent and child." He said as he folded his arms and gazed at it.
"Niraya can teach about this mechanical soul called 'code'?" He asked as he tilted his head.

Niraya was a little worried Qiu'li would attack at first sight. Thankfully that wasn't the case. Niraya wasn't dumb either. though the drone could use dust as a weapon she made sure it was empty. personal experience has taught her that should something go wrong and dust is part of the equation devastation followed, or just a nasty fireball. The drone was watching them as Niraya hadn't taught it much more than look at people.
When Qiu'li spoke she was surprised by this. he is usually a man of little words, but his words rang deep. "mechanical soul huh?" This wording brought back a memory. When she was younger and Zerul was teaching her more advanced robotics he mentioned something called a ghost in the machine. his words echo in her head. "A ghost in the machine is like our minds. we think our body reacts. remove the part that thinks and leave it to act on instinct and our bodies just do the minimum required to stay alive."
She snaps back to reality and hears Qui'li wanted to learn. "I would be happy to teach you more...but this field of expertise is more finesse than brute strength. are you ok with that?" She goes back to the computer and shuts down the drone. it slowly sinks landing on the table and lays there lifeless. The little drone then hops onto the table and nudges the drone. "it's fine he is sleeping for now." The drone looks back and forth between Niraya and the flying drone. it seemed to question if the drone was truly asleep. Niraya sighs and pets the little drone. "I really do need to give you a name."
Qiu'li noticed Niraya taking his words to heart and thinking about it. She seemed to space out for a bit before coming back to her senses. Was she recounting something he had said? Perhaps a memory? He wasn't sure, though his master would make a similar face when he was deep in thought or remembered something fond. He didn't say anything during that moment but he simply stared, studying her body movements and facial expressions.
She seemed to be warning him that the world of mechanics was a lot more complicated and required more technical knowledge than what he was used to. While it was obvious that he would have no idea what she would be saying half the time, it was still somewhat pleasant to hear someone talk about something they liked and were passionate about. Aside from that, it would be a good time to test his mental fortitude. Qiu'li recalled how his master urged him to broaden his horizons. He took this as one of these opportunities to try and expand them and learn new things outside of simply trying to survive and stay alive. To her question of whether or not he was sure, Qiu'li simply nodded.
He watched at the drone sank down and and shut off, as if falling into a deep slumber. Odd, but he nodded when Niraya explained it to him. Qiu'li watched the little drone approach the other one and nudge at it, as if it were a curious child that was exploring something strange to it. Were all mechanical beings like this..? Though it seemed like Niraya was now paying attention to the little one, patting it as if it needed affection.
"I really do need to give you a name."
"Name? Why?" Qiu'li was curious about Niraya's thoughts on that. To give a name to something means to give a living thing an identity. While the drone walked and acted like it was alive, there was still a clear distinction between a 'living' soul and a mechanical one. Like a puppet, it could mimic real life, but it wasn't. This was perplexing to Qiu'li, someone who was ignorant to the concept. While it not of ill-intent, his voice came off as brash and somewhat insensitive, even though he was genuinely confused.

Qiu'li seemed interested in learning more. which was nice she could pass some basic knowledge onto him. She highly doubted he could handle the advanced stuff for a while. The little drone looks at Qiu'li when he questioned the name. Niraya did the same but with a bit more attitude. "Your weapons have names, don't they? they have no semblance of life no matter how hard you try. and yet you question this?" The drone moves away from Niraya and jumps at Qiu'li.
Niraya looks at the little drone a bit confused but it looked like it was wanting Qiu'li for something. "Are you wanting him to name you?" The little drone spins around happily. Niraya sighs. "Well seems like he wants you to name him." Whether or not Qiu'li named him or not she would begin the lesson. "Well, the code is a bit of a confusing thing to learn at first. Like most spoken languages there are similarities between them. there are so many different languages to code that do various things. but for now, we're going to focus on this one I'm using."
She pulls up a separate project file so it was empty. As Niraya explains things the Drone would go back to playing with the basketball. She then starts typing up basic lines of code and explaining them and various functions you can do with them. Niraya would make sure Qui'li was paying attention it's not something anyone could just jump into.
Ah. Qiu'li blinked in surprise at the sudden change in attitude that Niraya had made upon responding to his question. He had never thought about her comparison to Longtou and Panlong. Thinking back, his master did mention that his weapons were an extension of himself, and thus the names of his weapons held significant meaning. Then again, it was not him that named his weapons, but rather his father, whom he resented greatly at the time. Names were arbitrary to him, especially in a weapon. Though reflecting on Niraya's words, Qiu'li began to understand just what his master had meant. Huh.
Glancing down, he noticed the mechanical device jump onto his leg, clambering up and gazing at him. Did it feel comfortable around him now, or was it a matter of simple curiosity and that the device no longer deemed him a threat? He gazed at the mechanical device and at Niraya in slight confusion as she bent down to talk to it.
"Well seems like he wants you to name him."
Ah? He was slightly bewildered. Usually one would expect their parent to endow a name or title to them, not a stranger. While Qiu'li admitted that he considered himself a good acquaintance with Niraya, he didn't consider himself on the level of being able to name her mechanical creations. There was a level of discomfort, but he hesitantly... patted the machine before gazing back up at Niraya.
"I... Will consider a name when think of proper name for it."
Without skipping a beat, it seemed like gears were shifting as Niraya had taken up on his request and began explaining the fundamentals on what gave mechanical beings 'life.' While the small mechanical being began to head off to play, Qiu'li stared intensely at what Niraya was lecturing. While he could not follow the technical language that she spoke, Qiu'li nodded and observed. So the language of the mechanical is a language of their own. While it utilizes the common language of people, the way that it arranges numbers and letters are complicated and extensive. Precision is important, as the smallest error could lead to misunderstanding and can be rather unforgiving.
He nodded to the information that he understood, and gave a questioned look to portions that he did not. Coming from a formerly nomadic tribe that knew little of the technicalities of mechanical technology, there were more questioned looks than nods, but he tried his best to understand.
--
After an exhaustive time of observing and listening to Niraya, his mind began to drift as to what to name the mechanical drone. What kind of name would suit it? He wasn't sure. Glancing over, he stared at it intensely for any interesting detail and made a mental description of what he saw. What kind of behavior did it exhibit?

Niraya Platinum When snow falls, Nature listens.
[attr="class","rainbow"]
Niraya tries to keep the lesson as simple as she could. She could tell Qui'li was struggling a bit. after a while, she stopped wanting to take a small break from the lecture. "That's the basics for now I guess. Once you practice a bit with it I'm sure you would start to see how things tie together." Niraya looks around for her little drone buddy. It was still chasing down basketballs but now it had arranged them like a bowling alley and was using one ball to move the other balls.
"look at that he worked out a game all on his own." Niraya pulls up a file that had tons of notes that she had observed from her little drone's evolution into a more sentient being. if Qui'li was looking at it he would see entries that dated back a year ago, but the entries mention alterations she performed. near the end of the document was where she was noting the changes. and it was a hefty list.
Niraya quickly jots down the various thing she saw the drone did today. after a bit the drone would return and nuzzle up to Niraya its expression seemed to be one that was tired it was moving sluggishly and didn't seem as active as it uses to be. "are your batteries low? it's ok to come on take a nap and you will feel fully charged in no time." Niraya picks up the drone and hit a hidden button to turn off the drone. after that, she hooks it up to her computer to start charging it.
Right. Practice. Though Qiu'li could think of few scenarios where he would put this information to practical use, he still appreciated the personal lesson Niraya had given him nonetheless. It was an interesting concept, to say the least. Precise language to mimic life made one think about how much people had taken simple functions for granted. Breathing. Blinking. Even moving. It was all a complex language of bodies that gave one life, much like the language of the mechanical.
He followed her gaze to the mechanical drone that was entertaining itself by playing with the various balls. Hm. Almost like a child. Qiu'li almost had to remind himself that it was a mechanical being with an artificial soul rather than an organic one, though he could see the similarities to a degree. It was fascinating, to say the least. His attention shifted to Niraya opening up a file of information that he tried to piece together from what he learned. In short, it was a detailed list of alterations she had made to the drone's artificial soul, the 'code', as it developed and changed. Even mechanical beings can learn and adapt, much like humans do, Qiu'li thought to himself.
Though as his eyes scanned the documents, he noted how much Niraya had written about it. The intricate workings, the in-depth logs, down to the most minute of detail. Qiu'li blinked as the list merely grew. This went beyond simply a doll and a doll-maker, rather it was like a parent recording the events and achievements of their child. While Qiu'li was still lost in the world of mechanicals, he could tell that Niraya cared deeply for her creations as if they were real.
As the machine approached and cozied up to her like a pet or a small child would, Niraya shut off the machine by touching it and allowed it to enter into a deep slumber much like the other mechanical being. Huh. He gazed at the sky and noted that the sun had moved a significant amount. Just how long had he been here learning about the artificial soul with Niraya? Not that he minded, but the passage of time always seems to accelerate quickly when one is engrossed in something interesting.
"Jixie Yidian-xiao." He said finally after Niraya had connected it to the computer device.
"Means 'little mechanical one.' Little long... Jyx?" He said with a questioned look. Qiu'li wasn't one for complicated names, nor was his clansmen. Hell, his name literally meant 'Autumn', though it wanted him to name it. Despite such a request, Qiu'li decided to suggest it to Niraya anyways since she had just as much of a right to approve or disapprove the name. If anything, they could probably come up with one before he left.

Niraya makes sure to save her work since she was on the computer, to begin with. She looks over at Qui'li when he looked up at the sky. Fearing rain was coming she looks up and only sees a clear sky with the sun well past midday at this point. "a bit later than expected. well i need to get some food. Feel free to join me i just need to drop off these guys back in my room." She starts to pack up her stuff. The little drone and the computer were put aside as she packed up the table it folds up in such a way that the flying drone could be carried within it. She double checks her tools and packs that up.
She stops and looks at Qui'li and smiles at him after giving the name a few minutes of thought. "Honestly thats a fine name. its simple when you know the meaning behind it. but its better than little robot." She smiles at him and then jots down the name for later. "jixie Yidian-xaio...i guess Jixie for short will be fine" After jotting things down she grabs the project table and her laptop which had a sleeping Jixie resting ontop of it and Niraya heads off to the dorm.
Niraya quickly heads to her dorm to put her stuff away before quickly returning to see if Qui'li was waiting for her. She didn't mind if he left already. He had a habit of just doing his own thing. Afterwards she would go to a place she know of for some food.
